Welcome to week 3!

As BIWI's away, she asked if I would start the week 3 thread. I've stolen her words from a previous week 3, as it's such a good explanation of bootcamp v. bootcamp light. Grin

Is anyone else not bothered about food that's not on our lists? I'm doing this a while now and took on BIWIs advice about 3 weeks ago to eat lots of fat.
I haven't looked back since.

I rarely get very hungry and never have cravings or feel tempted by anything. If I'm going somewhere I know there will be lots of tempting food I fill up beforehand and bring emergency snacks and lots of water.

I've just assumed this was part of the plan and how it works, I haven't seen anyone else mentioning it though and I'm slightly concerned that it's just a passing phase for me and cravings/longing could return at any time. The lack of them is what's keeping me on plan, I'm enjoying not having to battle what used to be almost constant cravings.

Lonesurvivor · 28/05/2018 21:10

Divette crossed postsSmile I'm so glad to read your post, I was worried it was a glitch!

I still haven't got all the energy I would've expected by now on my 4th consecutive week and often have a headache. I'm in ketosis weeks now, I know because I've had a kidney infection and gp commented each time.
I've low carbed before but not with high fat and while it wasn't sustainable I felt better. But maybe it's the kidney infection that's taken it out of me, it's cleared now though.

Thank you for your post BIWI. I know it makes sense. I’m just feeling mardy as I’ve been strict with myself. The last boot camp I remember I had a small piece of home made bread and my weight increased 3lbs over night.

I’ve been low carbing since about December 2017 and this is my 2nd bc. My loses have all been slow and steady but this is the first time I’ve put on 3 days on the trot. Although I do realise weight loss isn’t linear.

Not a life long dieter. I put weight on after sustaining a spinal injury a couple of years ago and my weight increased by about 3 stones. Ive gone from being really active and sporty to not.

Currently my weight has yo yoed for a few weeks now so perhaps I need to look at portion sizes and dairy intake. I already do IF, 16/8.

These threads really help with motivation, so thank you to you all for sharing your experiences. Koko la Vida.

Seafour · 28/05/2018 21:43

Twoo sorry about the sci but nice to know I'm not the only one. I too went from being very active to zilch but continued to eat the same, before I'd passed my third anniversary I'd gained over four stone.
It sounds as if you're doing really well.

prettybird · 28/05/2018 21:49

Don't have time to post fully and to record my NSVs but just wanted to post quickly to say that for energy, the fat is essential Grin

To repeat, if you're not eating enough fat, you will feel lethargic. It, and your own fat, is your primary source of energy

lecture over Wink

Twoo · 28/05/2018 22:02

Thanks Seafour. I’ve read about your sci in your posts on this thread. Sorry to hear you have to be ventilated. That must be very difficult for you.

Well done on persevering with this woe whilst having to deal with what you have to deal with. It must be very difficult. Flowers

Laska5772 · 28/05/2018 22:11

Eat lots of fat ..I must remember but how much?.

I know we are not portion sizes , but I feel that I need some guidance from you expert LC'bers as to how much and how much is too much

So for an idea.. A dessert spoonful of olive oil on a dinner plate of green salad? or less?

1/4 inch thick slice of butter off the pack on a bunch of asparagus or in 2/3 eggs? Or less?

Thanks

If you are looking for a low carb sweet treat, here's a recipe for low carb brownies! I used 2 tablespoons of Splenda which works fine in baking.

prettybird · 28/05/2018 22:19

Doesn't matter how much fat you eat. Iirc (and BIWI or Stuntnun will correct me if I'm wrong Wink), as long as you are doing everything else right (enough water, salt etc, not too close to goal, only eating when hungry and not because you are bored Blush), excess fat will be poo-ed out Blush

Destinysdaughter · 28/05/2018 22:22

Laska5772 I have no idea how much fat to eat I'm afraid. When I first did this diet in 2002 when it was the Atkins diet, fat was a 'free food' so you could eat as much as you liked. Personally I've never had an issue with how much fat as I just can't eat a lot of it. It's so filling and I can't binge on it like I could with crisps etc. I'd just say, trust yourself and believe that eating fat won't make you fat...if you limit the carbs!

prettybird · 28/05/2018 22:33

....and the other thing to remember is that fat satiates - so only eat when you are hungry !!!!! Grin

MrsBertBibby · 28/05/2018 22:46

I think the main check on fat is that dairy can stall weight loss for some, so cheese may need watching.

But I eat a lot of cheese, being veggie, and the weight is still going.

Justmuddlingalong · 28/05/2018 23:53

Just a late night pondering, but I've just realised I can't remember the last time I farted. Just mentioning...Grin

itchyknees · 28/05/2018 23:54

Can’t go into detail but today life has been very difficult. I didn’t get chance to eat anything AT ALL until 8 o’clock tonight and literally the only thing I found was a bread roll. I was so shaky that I ate it, all of it. Sad

Will this be enough to bust me out of ketosis? That’s all I’ve eaten.

DramaAlpaca · 28/05/2018 23:56

itchyknees hope you are OK Flowers

Destinysdaughter · 29/05/2018 00:03

Justmuddlingalong I'm the same. No wind or bloating. Think it's the lack of wheat/sugar that does it.

Seafour · 29/05/2018 00:24

Twoo for all sorts of reasons it took nine years for Drs to diagnose my paralysed diaphragm so now that I am ventilated I feel so much more alive. I spent almost a decade living in a carbon dioxide fog where I couldn't concentrate on anything, couldn't stay awake for more than a couple of hours but only slept in twenty minute bursts and felt like shit.
The contrast is massive, that's why I'm here doing bc, I actually have enough energy to care about myself, I've regained a lot of cognitive function and my skin and hair are unrecognisable. This is my first spring free from C02 and the brightness of the colours in nature move me to tears frequently, before ventilation everything looked dull.

I think all of the people here with health problems are just living our own special kind of normal, we just get on with it because we have no choice. Thanks

MumOfAPickle · 29/05/2018 00:31

Sorry to hear you've had a hard day itchy, hope you're ok

I'm weighing tomorrow as I weighed last Tuesday and I didn't like the number on the scales this morning. Today has been difficult, not sure why....felt a bit stroppy all day and just wanted to soothe that with food. Tried hard to resist though...
B: 3 eggs scrambled with butter
L: chicken thigh with garlic mayo and celeriac dauphinois
D: meatballs with courgetti
S: pork scratchings and a choc mousse made with avocado and 3 raspberries

AthelstaneTheUnready · 29/05/2018 05:59

Hope you're ok, itchy?

I am SO close to my interim goal I can hear it whispering happy things. Just 1lb will get me into the next stone. So food for today is:

B: 2 eggs & butter, and mouthful of kefir
L: salmon, avocado and spinach salad
D: brisket and FLGV (mainly broccoli) with butter

And I will stop eating any of that as soon as I feel I've had enough.
