Welcome to week 3!

As BIWI's away, she asked if I would start the week 3 thread. I've stolen her words from a previous week 3, as it's such a good explanation of bootcamp v. bootcamp light. Grin

I did brilliantly until a weekend of BBQ I was LC but just not strict enough

MrsBertBibby · 29/05/2018 07:59

Bumped up again. And to be blunt, no shits since Friday. Still feeling like the dead with this bastarding cold, and no way I can skip work.

Back to the meds cabinet Sad

BlackMozart · 29/05/2018 08:17

itchyknees 💐I hope today can be better for you.

Well I have lost 3lbs which for me is a whoosh and testament to my not straying off bootcamp at all, and doing some 16:8’s so I am going to do that again this week. I also drunk more water than I have done in the past. So no going back to wine or chocolate for another week. One week today is my 25th wedding anniversary so making an effort this week seems worth it.

I am hungry this morning so am going to have breakfast with butter in my eggs!

Given I must be one of the worst for losing on this woe others can take heart that it does work with time and discipline.

BlackMozart · 29/05/2018 08:19

If someone could make my 100 from 2 weeks ago, 99 for last week and 96 today I would be very grateful.

MrsBertBibby · 29/05/2018 08:28

Done!

RedPandaMama · 29/05/2018 08:51

After drinking a lot of wine on Saturday and having a day off LCHF Sunday because the hangover was so bad (really. SO bad.) I got right back on it Sunday teatime with chicken and bacon salad with mayo. Ate well yesterday and down to 94.4kg today, so I'm half a kilo up from last Friday's weight. I'll take it for a fun weekend.

Honestly, I don't think I'm going to drink again while eating this way. I didn't enjoy it, completely blacked out for a good four hours Brew which was terrifying. I think alcohol must need carbs to soak it up or something. I honestly felt like death and am still feeling it now, think I have carb flu from binging on toast on Sunday then going back to low carb right away.

Proud of myself for getting back on it though. I'm a serial slimming worlder and have always had a cheat day turned cheat week turned 'lets skip group for two weeks', had a 6lb gain, got demotivated and quit. With this WOE I genuinely love eating this way and don't miss carbs.

AromaticSpices · 29/05/2018 09:00

Went to Nandos last night, had the butterfly chicken in lemon & herb dressing, and the coleslaw. It was ok, not great, but the lowest carb thing i could have had. It was meant to be an easy dinner for us and the kids but it was quite stressful (kids were tired and one hadnt napped for long enough) so it was not that enjoyable. And early - 5pm - which meant that by 8pm I wanted something to snack on, so I had a pack of pork scratchings, and some ff yog with handful of seeds and about 5 grapes, halved. These aren't great I know, v sweet, but had run out of berries. Also didnt drink enough water yesterday which won't have helped.

Will follow BC proper during the week I think and relax things slightly at weekends (mainly just with berries and nuts) - already 1 litre down so far today!

MrsCoyote · 29/05/2018 09:24

May I report that the conversion sheet is not working (kgs to lbs).

I am very pleased today - after no loss last week I am 2 kg down today.
I am finally below 80 kg (waiting for that from beginning of April when I started LCHF).

No linear weightloss for me and the weight depends on the hormones during the cycle and also on toalet visits a lot. But it IS working.

I admire your elaborate meals. lots of eggs/meat and green veg with butter for me.

KOKO.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 29/05/2018 09:31

Someone's touched the blue cells! Shock Wink

I'll see what I can do.

You did great Aromatic. Sometimes when eating out the only choice you can make is the least-worst choice.

RedPanda alcohol tolerance goes way down on this WoE although nobody really knows why. Well done for getting back on track with your food.

Itchy don't worry about being in or out of ketosis. It's a sliding scale not an on/off switch and you don't need to be in ketosis to lose weight.

Eat lots of fat ..I must remember but how much?

Laska it is possible to overeat fat on this WoE although it is more likely to stall weight loss than make you gain weight...

So for an idea.. A dessert spoonful of olive oil on a dinner plate of green salad? or less? 1/4 inch thick slice of butter off the pack on a bunch of asparagus or in 2/3 eggs? Or less?

I would have a fair bit more olive oil than that, maybe four or more dessert spoons on a dinner plate of salad. The butter sounds about right. There are no hard and fast rules; when you're near your goal weight you often need to increase fat intake to compensate for decreased body fat. But it does seem to be true that you need a good fat intake to optimise burning body fat. The idea is to convince your body that we're in a time of plenty and there's no need to hang on to body fat.

LoneSurvivor if you're still feeling bad then it could well be a nutrient deficiency. I have been low in magnesium for years and I put a couple of scoops of this electrolyte powder to my water every day. It tastes a bit salty but you can make it taste a bit nicer by adding a fruit teabag to your (cold) water. I like Sour Cherry or Raspberry Lemonade but there are loads of flavours available.

Yarboo the 30-Day Shred did wonders for my arms. I lost the bingo wings entirely and they got all toned up.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 29/05/2018 09:34

I'm afraid I can't get rid of the original formula (password protected), but the cell under that will give you the conversion.

Seafour posted: I think all of the people here with health problems are just living our own special kind of normal, we just get on with it because we have no choice. I wholeheartedly agree with this; I'm sure most, if not all, of us are dealing with some kind of health problem. We've already heard lots of testimonials of e.g. reduced joint pain, IBS clearing up, and even farting less often looks sidelong at JustMuddling. Grin Since this way of eating can help with so many health conditions I do think it's worth raising them on the Bootcamp threads as people may well have suggestions of things to try.

bibliomania · 29/05/2018 09:40

May have embraced BC Light a bit too enthusiastically over the last couple of days - ate a punnet each of blueberries and raspberries along with some hazelnuts and pecans and lots of cream. Still 2lb down though, and I know I would have eaten a load more sugary processed stuff if I hadn't been doing this woe, so overall willing to consider it a (tasty) victory.

Have been reading The Big Fat Surprise: Why Butter, Meat and Cheese Belong in a Healthy Diet by Nina Teicholz, which is a take-down of the evidence base for current dietary recommendations about eating grains, fruit and veg while restricting dietary fat. Relieved to know that the evidence seems to be fairly sound in relation to LCHF, although nutrition science hasn't had the last word about any of it.

Eolian · 29/05/2018 09:45

Argh - have failed to put my weight in because I forgot yesterday was Monday - felt like Sunday! I've got house guests arriving shortly but will try and enter weight before they arrive.

Eolian · 29/05/2018 09:51

Meant to say, I have had a few significant lapses over the last few days, so was pretty amazed to find that I've maintained. Being strict is going to be a challenge over the next few days - guests are here until Friday!

TheGherkin · 29/05/2018 09:54

Morning all. My scales are broken so no idea if I lost anything. I don’t think I have but I’m koko.
I went for a run this morning for the first time in 6 months. It hurt a lot but I ran for 15 minutes before dying.

MrsCoyote · 29/05/2018 10:06

AthelstaneTheUnready thanks! Smile

JuneBalloon · 29/05/2018 10:16

The weekly veg and meat shop of a low carber! Wonder what the packer thought of my excessive purchasing of green veg and eggs???

Week 3 - decision-making time!
parsleyeatingbunny · 29/05/2018 10:40

Thanks summer. I've started having coffee with cream in the morning which I think has helped.

GiantPandaAttacks · 29/05/2018 10:41

June your dog hiding in the background is gorgeous! Have finally caught up with the thread & am pleased to see that ilove was still feeling like shite at this stage. I am knackered (which is fairy usual for a teacher on half term, it's the lurgy) but all my limbs just feel so heavy which is not normal!

I'm intending to stay on bootcamp for the majority of the ten weeks - I don't feel deprived on what I'm on and want to see what I (and DP, the lucky sod who has lost a stone for far!) can manage before our holiday at some point in August. 2.7lb down for me this week: can someone enter this on the spreadsheet for me as I cannot work the thing! No idea currently about food for today: yogurt with cream for breakfast is about as far as I've got.

Seafour · 29/05/2018 10:44

Stuntnun what advice can you give me regarding kefir? Good, bad, beneficial to this WOE or best avoided.
I'm asking because I take repeated courses of antibiotics and am still cultivating a super bug in my bladder that I picked up in Hospital last year.
I would love to improve my gut flora before the autumn when I go back in for spinal surgery again.

Itchy have a good day today and be very kind to yourself.

NorthernKnickers · 29/05/2018 10:44

@JuneBalloon I thought the same thing yesterday in Sainsbury's...plus all the full fat Greek Yoghurts and double cream in my basket! The checkout operator must have wondered what on Earth I was making 😂

Laska5772 · 29/05/2018 10:54

seafour I asked this a while back.
Kefir is fine as long as its plain and the more fermented the less the carbs.. Do you make ypur own? We have a v healthy colony on the go.
Love kefir Smile

Divette · 29/05/2018 11:01

Well I weighed this morning and have lost 3.25lbs since last Monday, taking my overall loss to 9.25lbs in the first two weeks of BC. I’m pleased will they that and pleased my weekend away of eating lots (low carb but still lots!) hasn’t resulted in a gain.

I’ve put it in the spreadsheet but the total loss or percentage loss columns don’t seem to be working properly.

abbey44 · 29/05/2018 11:23

Weighed in this morning as I knew I wasn't going to like the post-holiday reading...and I was right. Four pounds on, though I'm amazed it wasn't more, to be honest. Well, it might well have been, but I've reverted to strict BC since I got back and feel a whole lot better for it.

Eating out wasn't so much of a problem - I found it quite easy to stick on plan for those meals - it was the meals at friends' houses that was my downfall. One good friend dished up a one-pot meal which, while absolutely delicious, had so much pasta in it that it was impossible to pick it out without looking impossibly rude. It was eye-opening to see just how sensitive to carbs I am - that one meal alone took 50 units of insulin (that's a whole week's worth of insulin when I'm eating at home) before my blood sugar returned to normal. And a full 24 hours before I felt anything like well again.
