Welcome to week 3!

As BIWI's away, she asked if I would start the week 3 thread. I've stolen her words from a previous week 3, as it's such a good explanation of bootcamp v. bootcamp light. Grin

Hope you enjoy it claire8!

Thanks to whoever posted the salmon patties link last week, I made them tonight and they were delicious. Dh loved them too, made a chipotle mayo to go with them

oldbirdy · 29/05/2018 20:04

My menu for today:
Breakfast: cloud bread, butter and marmite, plus a cold sausage from last night's tea
Lunch: mozzarella salad with half a tomato, green salad, oil and vinegar, small portion scratchings.
Snack: sausage
Tea: burger with blue cheese Patty, mushroom "bun" and courgette, broccoli, and cauliflower "chips" with parmesan on

Plus coffee with cream.

Seems like a huge amount of food but I had a hungry day....

BlackMozart · 29/05/2018 20:09

Thanks mrsbertbibby for adding me!
Thanks athel for the shopping list suggestion.
I have upped my butter and reduced but not cut out cheese and that seems to have helped.
Tonight I made a nice supper of cauliflower, broccoli two hard boiled eggs and a few strips of left over gammon (just one slice) and topped it all with a simple but delicious cheese sauce made with 200g marscapone, 50g mix of cheddar and Parmesan and a few snips of chives (you could also add mustard powder but I forgot). Baked in the oven for 10-15 mins until bubbling. Had half tonight and will have the rest tomorrow.

I have developed a new emergency pud (no choc). In an espresso cup I mix 3 heaped teaspoons of koyo coconut yoghurt, a pinch of vanilla powder, a few grains of erythitol and tonight a knife end of soft salted butter. It is staying off my chocolate pangs which are reducing.

Thank you ATU.

Well I'm not losing any weight but today I have felt fantastic! The brain fog I usually live with has lifted, I've had bags of energy, and I've eaten far less than I would usually, my appetite has been tiny. It's unheard of. I'm also starting to feel differently about bread and pasta, which I have loved.

I just can't seem to drink the water 😕. Did I see on a previous thread that there was an explanation about why it is important? Can anyone point me in the right direction. The only other thing I've noticed is that I'm not peeing much despite upping fluids. But my tum is flatter. Still big but definitely flatter!

Seafour · 29/05/2018 20:17

Stunt I've been meaning to try bpc for ages so maybe today's the day - will have one before bed maybe.

Laska good tip about the oil, might give that a try too.

I'm going to try and significantly up my fat intake and see if those stubborn little sucker pounds start to slide off in return. The experiment begins.

Welcome year read the spreadsheets and dive on in, plenty of people are sticking to hardcore bc and not moving on to bc lite so you won't be alone.

Destinysdaughter · 29/05/2018 20:19

I went to Asda today to get more cocoa powder, was shocked to see the difference in carbs between the different brands. asda's own brand was 0.5 carbs per half a teaspoon but the Cadburys Bourneville and Green and Blacks were really high.

Read the labels on stuff folks, it's quite an eye opener!

farine · 29/05/2018 20:28

Evening everyone. I've put weight on again today - so 6 days of continued weight gain. I'm really confused as I've posted my meals and they all seem ok, and I am taking in the correct amount of water.

I'm not that hungry this evening so don't know whether to eat or not? I had a coffee with cream for breakfast and a chicken salad ( skin on, oily dressing, mayo on side) for lunch. I probably should eat something shouldn't I?

I am going to keep preserving with this because I really do need to lose weight and don't know what else to do...

Justmuddlingalong · 29/05/2018 20:35

I've had small gains 4 days out of the last 6, so I feel your pain @farine. Sticking rigidly and cut dairy and upped fat in the hope of some more losses. Would normally have thought 'fuck it' by now but, nope. I know it works so I'll KOKO. Am sure a good shit would help. Blush

StuntNun · 29/05/2018 20:35

Seafour start out slow with the BPCs - a teaspoon each of butter and coconut oil is plenty. If you go straight into drinking two tablespoons of fat then you will feel very queasy!

Catbot · 29/05/2018 20:42

And whisk like crazy! BPCs need to emulsify otherwise it all separates Confused

AthelstaneTheUnready · 29/05/2018 20:42

Farine, I'd eat a small amount of something, if it were me - I've skipped dinner before because I didn't want it, then got into bed and been unable to sleep because I was suddenly ravenous. Doesn't need to be much, if you don't fancy it though.

Today has been a bit of a weird day food-wise. I have been drinking loads of water though.

I was in a rush this morning so I had 3 spoonfuls of extra thick double cream straight out the pot for breakfast! Blush

Lunch was quite early and I had a fried breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage and tomato. I left the toast at the side of my plate and wasnt tempted at all by it.

Dinner was at a vegan restaurant and there was not much low carb on the menu. I had an enormous bowl of vegan Caesar salad without croutons (and with tofu bacon and some kind of fake chicken in it). My friends were drinking prosecco and I just stuck to my plain old tap water.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 29/05/2018 20:44

Oh, and meant to say - the loss of appetite could be a sign that you're suddenly clicking with this WOE! People adjust at different speeds, like Stunt said.

BIWI · 29/05/2018 20:45

Oh dear @farine Sad

Your menus look fine to me and it doesn't look like you're eating too much dairy, which is a usual culprit.

Some questions:

  • you're not on the spreadsheet so I don't know how much you weigh/how much you want to lose. You don't have to tell me your weight if you don't want to, obviously, but can you give me an idea of how much (realistically) you want to lose?
  • would you say you're a serial dieter?
  • are you taking any medication? (even something like ibuprofen?)
BIWI · 29/05/2018 20:50

This might be worth a read.

The other things to consider @farine:

  • are your scales right?! Is the battery going?!
  • have you been taking your measurements? Sometimes you are burning fat but the scales don't show that
  • are you doing a lot of serious exercise?
  • are you particularly stressed out right now?
Rayna37 · 29/05/2018 20:50

Thanks to whoever first came up with/posted the idea of cooking the cauliflower stalks and leaves and blitzing into the cheese sauce: amazing! I was always pained by how the debris from a cauli practically filled the food waste bin and not just because I might have to empty it myself if DH is away and now, no wastage and thick delicious sauce!

B: 2 eggs scrambled with butter about an hour and a half before a good 10k run. It felt much better than the last few, mostly due to a shady route but I do seem to be improving.
L: massive salad. Spinach, toms, cucumber, celery, oil, 2 eggs with the yolk mashed with some cheese, mayo and chives, and far more hm red coleslaw than I needed.
D: cauli cheese, buttery kale, one strip of belly pork I found lurking in the freezer.

Pebblespony · 29/05/2018 21:29

I've a horrible chest infection. Temperature, the whole shebang. Made myself feel better by eating biscuits. Confused

farine · 29/05/2018 21:31

Thanks @BIWI

  • My starting weight was 11 stone 11lbs, and I lost 3lbs in week one, and as of this morning I've lost 2.5lbs overall due to weight put on. I did drop to 11.71/2 last Thursday but have gained every day since then.
  • I have dieted on and off for years, but hadn't done for last 6 months as was training for marathon and didn't want to impact on that.
  • I took some ibuprofen over the weekend (4 tablets in all) as I had period pain.
  • I try to exercise about 3/4 times a week - mainly running, but since I started bootcamp my energy levels have been so low I've cut back to about once a week.
  • scales seem to be ok, I'm getting my husband to weigh himself every day from now on to see if he's getting similar gains
  • no stress at moment - very content with my lot in life.

Thanks to everyone for the encouragement, I am trying to keep the faith and I'm not ready to give up yet, just mightily frustrated it's not clicking given how I'm following the plan properly.

farine · 29/05/2018 21:32

The link doesn't work by the way biwi can you post again please

farine · 29/05/2018 21:34

Me again - forgot to say ideally I'd like to get to around 10 stone, which feels realistic and maintainable. I've never been skinny and don't really fancy becoming so - I just want a healthier weight and to look shapely rather than podgy.

BIWI · 29/05/2018 21:35

Sorry @farine - see if this works

RedPandaMama · 29/05/2018 22:13

Love looking at this little pie chart on MFP at the end of the day! I'm not tracking my food for calories or anything like that, I've had problems with binge eating in the past and it helps keep me in check.

Feel like I've eaten loads today and I've enjoyed it so much!
Breakfast: protein bar - I know I need something better like an omelette but I'm so ridiculously busy that these are all I get chance to grab and eat in the car. Might start taking nuts instead.
Lunch: snack box of ham, cheese, tomatoes, cucumber, almonds and avocado
Dinner: spag bol with courgetti, loads of olive oil
Dessert: strawberries and cream

34g carbs Grin

My grandma bought us all (4 grandchildren) ice creams when we took her out today and I refused and have mine to DD instead! Proud moment.

Week 3 - decision-making time!
MrsBertBibby · 29/05/2018 22:20

Messed up today thanks to this stupid cold leaving me with no energy to make lunch at work so I just nibbled, then snacked at home and couldn't eat much dinner.

But what a dinner! The cauliflower cheese as per thread favourite, but with the addition of a head of broccoli boiled and whizzed into the sauce. It's delish! And I think will last for DAYS.

In other news I had two clients today, and by the end of the second one my poor voice was gone. So I have had to read the whole denouement of the Hunger Games in a frantic whisper to my poor son, who has been in a state of knuckle chewing excitement every night over it.

BIWI · 29/05/2018 22:33

Right, listen up everyone!

This is week 3. And I need to warn you ALL that weeks 3 and 4 are infamous for little or no weight loss (perhaps even a slight gain).

I don't know why exactly (although I believe @StuntNun has a good explanation Grin), but it happens so often, and has happened in all the Bootcamps I've done, that it's definitely a THING.

If you do find this is the case for you - don't panic! Keep following the rules, don't cheat, and you'll find the weight loss starts again.

(Try taking your measurements as well, as they may well change even if the scales aren't being your friend!)

It's unfortunate that this period also coincides with us moving (if we want to) on to Bootcamp Light - you may feel that this makes you want to reconsider that, and to stay on Bootcamp for a bit longer.
