Week 2 - May '18 Low Carb Bootcamp - my favourite week!

BIWI · 21/05/2018 07:20

Morning all

Here's the Spreadsheet

I love this week, seeing how much weight people lose, and especially as it's always such a surprise for newbies and those who feared that this WOE wouldn't work!

I hope you've all seen good results.

If you haven't - don't despair, but have a think about the week just gone. Look at what you were eating/drinking and consider how well you followed Bootcamp rules.

Any problems, as ever, post them on the thread.

That's brilliant LeapinLizardz FlowersStar

Am I remembering correctly that you struggled at the start of Boot Camp in January? But you've kept the faith and here you are! StarGlitterball

Lonesurvivor · 23/05/2018 13:49

Well done leapinlizard we'll all be rooting you on for that pound loss.

I've no choice but to have carbs of all sorts in the house as there's 5 of us here. It hasn't bothered me at all except the first/week 10 days so it will pass for anyone else in the same boat.
I'd always thought before that evening carb cravings for crackers/crisps were something I'd always have and end up giving into on low carb but fingers crossed they're gone. Amazing as I'm a carb addict addict, or should that say was?Grin

StuntNun · 23/05/2018 14:12

GiantPanda I make bread every couple of days for my DS3 and DS4 who are both allergic to soya so can't have shop-bought bread. At the start of going low carb the smell of fresh baked bread would have sent me wild with desire Grin but now it just registers as a pleasant smell. I have found that the longer I eat this way, the more appealing low carb food becomes. Of course it helps that any dietary 'excursions' are followed by stomach aches, cravings and bloating - it's like a carb hangover.

Rshard · 23/05/2018 14:23

That’s brilliant lizards, well done!

Mueslibox · 23/05/2018 14:26

Had my first person ask me if I’d lost weight!!! Hurrah!

JuneBalloon · 23/05/2018 14:57

@Eolian That was me too when I first started! I was not impressed... Just starting week 7 and I reckon I 'go' about once every three days... But when I 'go', I 'GO'! Not nice, but verrrry satisfying! Grin But thankfully the Farmer Giles have only appeared the once!

traceyturnblatt · 23/05/2018 15:00

Just wanted to run something past you all, especially @BIWI. My DH has started following keto and is taking loads of supplements; magnesium, salt, vitamins etc ( think he's getting information from a keto fb page) and I'm just wondering if it's something I should be doing do?

I've had a look at the fb page and there seems to be a huge amount of conflicting information like drinking lo salt and MCT oil and I'm completely confused!

JuneBalloon · 23/05/2018 15:11

Something is missing! I'm REALLY craving something but I can't figure out what... Just had a delicious lunch (salmon and creamed spinach) but it hasn't hit the spot. I'm not hungry but am feeling quite perturbed at my mysterious craving. I want 'it' and I want 'it' NOW!!!

It might be chocolate.... 🤨

AromaticSpices · 23/05/2018 15:19

Resist, @juneballoon. I know what it is - it's that feeling of being uncomfortably full of carbs and sugar. I find when eating low carb I never really feel totally stuffed. I feel full, pleasantly full, but it takes a lot to feel really... satisfied, I guess. And that leads to thinking about crisps/choc/bread/whatever else to quickly get back that feeling. But it's not a good state to aspire to, it's unhealthy and it's much better to feel satisfied but still light. If any of that makes any sense, well done - I feel I have rambled, but this is the way I feel anyway Confused

SummerRayne17 · 23/05/2018 15:34

'Hangs head in shame' I shared a fibre one bar with my DD 🙈 feel annoyed with myself now! Grrrrrr

Iamnotacerealkiller · 23/05/2018 15:52

does anyone have experience with oppo icecream which was mentioned before?
ru
just looked at them in sainsburies and they look too good to be true so will likely either be horrible or throw me out of ketosis. it is sweetened with stevia, is that any better then other sweeteners/sugar? im generally suspicious of sweetener.

i havent bought it yet as id rather not have the temptation around. has anyone eaten it and can you tell me if it effected your cravings/weight loss?

Rshard · 23/05/2018 16:00

I have a touch of that too eolian, although I’ve managed to go now.

That’s a fab NSV muesli

JuneBalloon · 23/05/2018 16:03

Thanks @AromaticSpices, I think you're right! Have busied myself making egg muffins - hopefully one of those will hit the spot... But I doubt it. However, I've come this far and I'm not going back!

RedPandaMama · 23/05/2018 16:15

I'm feeling so proud of myself, I started on Friday 12th so after tomorrow will have done two weeks.
A whole two weeks without chocolate, cereal, fruit juice and potatoes! I don't think I've ever done a full day without them before this. It really does work. I'm feeling so good and positive and although I need to lose weight, above all I want to be happy and I really am. Today I'm wearing patterned floaty trousers and an off-the-shoulder summer top and feel amazing. Smile

NorthernKnickers · 23/05/2018 16:15

Is it something 'with crunch' @JuneBalloon? That's my 'something missing' (crisps, crusty baguettes, toast!). I know this to be my absolute nemesis but I'm definitely not caving, because if I do, I'll cave BIG 😳🤷‍♀️

KOKO 😊

Justmuddlingalong · 23/05/2018 16:16

I've been making coleslaw. The crunch is very satisfying.

Eolian · 23/05/2018 16:29

Sympathies to you others suffering in the digestive department. I'm off for a run later. That usually helps!

Lonesurvivor · 23/05/2018 16:59

Next week when the nut rule is over I'll share my easy to make brown bread recipe using almond flour. It's delicious, my saviour.
I haven't shared it yet because I'm not sure if the no not rule applies to the flour so better to be safe than sorry and not get a belt of BIWIs big stickGrin

LeapinLizards · 23/05/2018 17:11

Yes, @prettybird I struggled in January & February because, although I wasn't cheating, the weight wasn't shifting much (aside from the initial whoosh). It would leave, return, leave, return etc. But I cracked it in March, thanks to the amazing advice & support in here, & I'm so pleased I kept the faith. Smile

JuneBalloon · 23/05/2018 17:30

@NorthernKnickers - good suggestion... but, alas, no. I think, as a PP said, it's substance and that feeling of being 'full' rather than merely satiated. Funnily enough, I'm normally a savoury person - but a nice slab of sponge pudding and custard would go down a treat right now...

Tuna niçoise for dinner tonight - think I'll just make it for DH and skip that meal (my egg muffin was quite filling) as it doesn't inspire me one bit. Better day tomorrow, I'm sure.

wherehavealltheflowersgone · 23/05/2018 17:37

@LeapinLizards what changed for you when you suddenly "got it"? I feel a long way from there

farine · 23/05/2018 17:38

Anyone else experiencing overwhelming tiredness? I am utterly exhausted. Just had a lie down for 40 minutes and then ate tea but still feel like a zombie. I am meant to be doing a HIIT class in an hour but I seriously think I would struggle to walk upstairs to bed!

Is this typical on bootcamp?

prettybird · 23/05/2018 17:52

I think some people experience that until their body gets used to being fat adapted and drawing on its own energy farine Smile

Someone on here once described it as your body "dining in" - using your excess fat for energy Grin

Destinysdaughter · 23/05/2018 17:53

Not sure if I'll get the big stick for saying this but after these 2 weeks are up you can eat ALMOND FLOUR! It's a good substitute for flour and I've made crackers, chocolate brownies, cakes, pizza and pancakes with it. TBH it was only being able to make these treats that got me through BC. I'd never eat those sorts of these things on a normal diet as they would be too fattening but on this WOE you can ( in moderation)

< I also made low carb Bounty bars which are yummy!>

And I've lost 21lbs so it does work...

Seafour · 23/05/2018 17:55

Itchyknees love the crispy fried hallucinations - sounds much nicer than halloumi Grin

Cerealkiller I love Oppo ice cream, sometimes too much!! It really is delicious.

I managed a trip to Costco without touching a single sample. I needed to get washing powder, aubergines and a big pack of hallucinations halloumi of course I also left with a giant paddling pool, new ironing board and 60L of car shampoo. Why????? But I could have sampled lots of baked goods and I didn't.
