New Year, New Start Week 2: This WoE works!

Welcome to Week 2 - the one where many of us (especially the newbies) will see the biggest drops. For those that don't, the drops will come. We will have seen other benefits too: brighter eyes, smaller waist (with the reduction of dangerous visceral fat from around our organs) - and all without feeling hungry Smile Week 2 is also when I find that my pschological urge to snack reduces.

Remember that you still need to adhere to the Rules. This is not a forgiving Way of Eating and if you cheat, you will set back the process of getting your body to adapt to fat burning. Only one more week of being ultra strict - it is only one more week Smile If you're thinking of cheating, come on here and we will talk you down. It really helps if you are prepared and have low carb snacks with you, or drink some water when you think you are hungry.

Keep drinking the required water ( StuntNun has explained why this is important). Avoid nuts and seeds (unless you are veggie), all fruit (you can look forward to the odd treat of berries from next week) - and no alcohol or artificial sweetender for another week.

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here to remind you to keep to the straight and narrow with the Rules and with resources to advise you. You can weigh-in if you choose to, but it is not compulsory. Over the weeks, your weight loss will start to average 1-2lb a week, sometimes more sometimes less .

The Week 1 Spillover thread is here.

Bizzysocks and nekobus we are bootcamp triplets! Well done on the weightloss.

intelligentPutty · 15/01/2018 15:26

Woo hoo!! Lost 5lb this week.

Twoo · 15/01/2018 16:21

That sounds fantastic Pretty’ & Gamme’ ... 3 whole stones off [wow].

I’m in for the long haul. Fingers crossed I’m down significantly by the summer Grin

abbey44 · 15/01/2018 16:50

2lb up - that pesky blip of unknown origin has decided to stick around for today's weigh in. Sigh.

Not (much!) deterred - koko. But it's frustrating when I know I'm sticking to the rules, not cheating, AND walking five miles a day with the dogs. That's gotta count for something, right...? I'll get the better of it if it bloody kills me.

Anyway, despite the crap numbers on the scales, I do feel good, people are starting to see a difference, and I think I might be going down in clothes size, though I'm hibernating in stretchy/baggy things for a bit longer so I can emerge into fabulousness in the Spring. (I'm hoping it'll be this Spring, but if it takes a bit longer, then I'm ok with that.)

B: Chicken liver pate & celery
L: -
D: Heck sausages, celeriac mash, buttered sprouts

Rshard · 15/01/2018 16:56

A friend has just sent me a video of cucumber subs, perfect for us low carbers. Slice down the middle, scoop out seeds and fill. 4 fillings on the little video; cream cheese dill and salmon, mustard mayo turkey and ham, pesto mozzarella tomato, guacamole bacon and turkey.

ScreamingValenta · 15/01/2018 17:35

2lb lost - that's my Christmas weight gain banished.

Twoo · 15/01/2018 17:44

Abbey’ you might be building muscle with all that walking. Muscle weighs heavier than fat. Do you have that svelte feeling. That’s a lovely NSV to have. Well done on the walking .

QueenOnAPlate · 15/01/2018 17:52

I lost 4 and 1/4 lb so very happy!
Is America no with cream my best option in Costa/Starbucks? Or do they do unsweetened almond milk does anyone know, as I much prefer this to dairy.

I was very proud today. Yesterday I made a lasagne, 1/2 was pasta, 1/2 with courgette slices. I took a piece of the wrong side to work today and picked out the pasta. It made me feel very virtuous. I'm definitely less hungry too. I could easily skip dinner tonight but have to cook for everyone else so will have something small.

GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness · 15/01/2018 18:09

This is weird. I have really irregular periods, with 1-3 month gaps, etc. Last thread my period started at the beginning of the 2nd week. And it is just starting now as well.

GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness · 15/01/2018 18:10

So a week of low carbing basically induces a period for me...

JingsMahBucket · 15/01/2018 18:19

GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness yikes. Are there are any other medical issues at play as well?

StuntNun, prettybird, BIWI, Sayrra and other keepers of the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, there are a bunch of errors in "Carbs Per Serving"/Column D column on the "Meal Ideas" sheet. Almost none of the values are showing correctly and it seems like the formulas have been corrupted. Just a heads up.

blackteaplease · 15/01/2018 18:37

That can happen Grand along with spotting issues. I dont know why, something to do with hormone release.

headoutofthesand · 15/01/2018 18:41

A 5lb loss here which I'm very happy with as it takes me back to my pre-Xmas weight. The fact that it is mainly bloat & water explains why I had such a significant first week loss. Of course, whilst I know that, I am still getting carried away and working out how skinny I will be by half term if I continue to lose 5lbs a week! More realistically, losing 1lb a week from now on would take me down to 10st which would be incredible; losing 1/2lb a week would take me down to a healthy BMI.

headoutofthesand · 15/01/2018 18:42

I'd also like to echo the thanks to Pretty and also second (third? fourth? twentieth?) the enthusiasm for a searchable recipe thread.

abbey44 · 15/01/2018 18:44

Thanks Twoo - I wonder if that might be it? I'm not feeling quite svelte exactly yet, but maybe a little less lumpy in places... And I'm definitely not getting as short of breath when I'm walking, which is a big plus.

Just as an afterthought - I had my stir-fried sprouts with the sausages and celeriac mash tonight, and stirred in a bit of Marmite butter at the end. Oh God, that was GOOD Grin (disclaimer: probably not so much if you're a Marmite hater...)

littleladylawyer · 15/01/2018 18:49

Congratulations on the losses everyone!

I had a weird day yesterday, ate way too much food. It was all on plan but just couldn't stop snacking- I think it was because I was at home all day not really doing much.

Leftover roast lamb curry and cauli rice tonight for dinner tonight after a big tuna and egg salad for lunch.

prettybird · 15/01/2018 19:04

QueenOnAPlate - I swapped from a cappuccino to an Americano and a glass of water-no-ice (amazing how many places ignore the "no ice" bit). Don't know about almond milk though.

Great psychological NSV, picking out the pasta and starting not to feel hungry Star Congratulations on the Scales Victory too.

Rshard - the cucumber subs sound nice.

ScreamingValenta - well done. I've still got a pound to go to get to my Christmas Day weight (having had our main Christmas Dinner the night before)

Abbey44 - good NSVs - and let them help you KOKO. The weight will drop eventually - and as Twoo says, it may be muscle. It might also be your body holding on to some water as it recognises that you are exercising a lot and might need those glycogen stores. KOKO and it will realise it's ok to let go of the water!

Ragz - congratulations - both on the weight loss and on the exam pass. Lovely way to celebrate - "treating" yourself with new clothes for your ever-diminishing body Wink

It's always worth working out how we will celebrate when we reach particular targets. I promised myself a cut & colour when I'd lost a stone. So far, I've had two: the first after I'd lost 1.5 stone (only because it took me a while to book it) and a 2nd after another 1.5 stone, just before Christmas.

Other things to reward ourselves with are massages, facials or a nice lipstick. I'm now daring to wear bright lipstick and bought myself some Dior 999 before Christmas and was given some Chanel Coromandel (not actually worn it yet) for Christmas from my dad.

C4 - well done for KOKO in Wales Smile

BrassicaBabe - I also misread that as having worn out usually between the thighs Blushyour jeans. But well done for wearing out side your Size 10 jeans Grin

Going to post now before this epistle gets too long Hmm and I'll then go back to tag/answer other people.

Pleased to have stuck with low carb today. Almost had a last mince pie from a box I found in the cupboard but managed to resist and fed them to the hens. Then remembered some short bread fingers this eve when I was cooking tea and thought I could just have a little one while I was waiting... Then can you believe I actually got distracted and forgot and made it through to dinner with no bad snacks?! Maybe I am really getting back on track!

SayrraT · 15/01/2018 19:16

I like the sound of that rshard

Thanks jings I'll check it out tonight once I'm home.

SayrraT · 15/01/2018 19:18

Oh, grandoldduke oestrogen is stored in fat cells, on lc because you are burning fat the oestrogen is released. This can cause funny periods. I'm always slightly glad when I get an extra period Grin means I'm burning fat!

blackteaplease · 15/01/2018 19:23

Just checking that everyone knows that you can search the recipe thread already. It's not indexed or cross referenced though.
On your browser there is a find on page function. Im using internet explorer on my phone, at the very top near the web address there are 3 vertical dots and the find function is in there. I'm certain that Google chrome has the same function.

BrassicaBabe · 15/01/2018 19:23

Ooh that's interesting syrrah I'm on depo so don't have periods. But I've been spotting a bit recently and then had period arrive today. So here to oestrogen filled fat cells!Smile

ScreamingValenta · 15/01/2018 19:25

It's really motivating to read about so many losses in week one. Thank you to prettybird for this great thread.

prettybird · 15/01/2018 19:27

JumpingintoLCHF - sounds like you are really getting into the Zone Star I've still got a few home made mince pies left unless ds has finished them by now : I made 95 "standard" sized ones and 12 mini ones and only had 2 myself Halo

I've got to go out to a meeting soon so I'll need to catch up later.

SayrraT · 15/01/2018 19:29

jings the spreadsheet is fine, column D is not complete for most of the recipes as I've never had time to work out the carb counts for them.

Thanks for noticing though.
