New Year, New Start Week 2: This WoE works!

Welcome to Week 2 - the one where many of us (especially the newbies) will see the biggest drops. For those that don't, the drops will come. We will have seen other benefits too: brighter eyes, smaller waist (with the reduction of dangerous visceral fat from around our organs) - and all without feeling hungry Smile Week 2 is also when I find that my pschological urge to snack reduces.

Remember that you still need to adhere to the Rules. This is not a forgiving Way of Eating and if you cheat, you will set back the process of getting your body to adapt to fat burning. Only one more week of being ultra strict - it is only one more week Smile If you're thinking of cheating, come on here and we will talk you down. It really helps if you are prepared and have low carb snacks with you, or drink some water when you think you are hungry.

Keep drinking the required water ( StuntNun has explained why this is important). Avoid nuts and seeds (unless you are veggie), all fruit (you can look forward to the odd treat of berries from next week) - and no alcohol or artificial sweetender for another week.

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here to remind you to keep to the straight and narrow with the Rules and with resources to advise you. You can weigh-in if you choose to, but it is not compulsory. Over the weeks, your weight loss will start to average 1-2lb a week, sometimes more sometimes less .

The Week 1 Spillover thread is here.

Thank you Athel’ yes I do seem to be getting through a lot and I mean a lot of cheese & butter.

Going to up the veg as ’Riggens suggested.

I agree Stunt. Perhaps not so much cheese and cream.

Thank you for all your advice.

ShagMeRiggins · 15/01/2018 13:40

A sachet of Lemsip has 5g carbs, that won't derail anything.

GailLondon · 15/01/2018 13:46

Hi everyone!
10st 9.9 today! That’s 2.5lbs off, and the lightest I’ve been for years!
Thought I’d attach my weight graph from my withings scales which I got at the beginning of 2017. You can see I had a bad start to 2017, weight creeping on all over the spring and summer. In September I started LCHF which is where the graph heads steadily down. I had a planned month off for December, didn’t rebound too badly, then back on it from the new year!
Really pleased to be back well within the healthy BMI zone which I haven’t seen since before pregnancy.

Pumpkin - I felt the same about the almond milk in tea, you definitely need more than you do cow's milk but I actually prefer it now (took a couple of weeks). However I was used to skimmed milk rather than full-fat, it might be a bigger change if you normally drink full fat cow's milk. I'm also experimenting with herb teas and rooibos.

Rshard · 15/01/2018 13:51

pumpkintopf I’ve reduced my tea consumption massively since starting this woe. I’m not a big fan of milk so only ever had the tiniest splash but I just didn’t fancy having it with almond milk so I’d rather have 1 a day with my splash of milk and enjoy it! To be fair, with all this water I’m drinking I don’t have the capacity for any more fluid!

JingsMahBucket · 15/01/2018 13:53

@BIWI, should I hold off on starting a new recipe thread then? I won't touch anything until you give the green light. :)

Sharknado · 15/01/2018 14:02

Thanks prettybird for the the new thread. Well done everyone - some great losses last week.
6lb off for me this week - really happy with the weight loss but have to say I'm even more thrilled with considerably better sleep, skin looking so much brighter and less bloating.
Aim for the next week is KOKO and try not to get complacent. I very nearly had a roast potato with dinner last night, (DH made them they looked amazing Envy). Resisted in the end as i knew i wanted to get rid of my 10yo baby weight more than the delicious crispy potato Grin.

prettybird · 15/01/2018 14:03

Some great successes Star

Will respond specifically later this afternoon after I've belatedly planted all my tulips Blush - before the bad weather comes in again also have a giant bag of daffodils to plant Blush

My own success is a 2lb loss so I am back under 12 stone Smile at 11 stone 13.5lb. I'm still a pound up on the lowest I'd got to before Christmas - but that was after an egg fast and there's usually a small rebound after that.

I'm 3 stone down from where I started in May Smile

Afternoon all - well done to everyone for the losses and for making it to week two.
I didn't weigh this morning, I always worry that a small loss will demotivate me. Actually I don't think it will as I feel so much better than when I was off piste over Christmas!

Agree that a more structured recipe thread would be amazing as there are so many there now that I find it a bit unwieldy to use
Posted on the last thread to say I am thinking of batch cooking some low carb options that DH could take to work in a food flask as he keeps ending up buying sandwiches at work.
Does anyone else do this ? Looking for ideas ... so far I have beanless chilli and broccoli and Stilton soup on my list .

Today
B Bacon and mushroom breakfast muffin
L not that hungry tin of tuna with mayonnaise olives and two tomatoes
D beanless chilli possibly with cauli rice

Sunseed · 15/01/2018 14:08

I have put 1lb on but am very pre-menstrual and have given into to a certain amount of carb-monstering over the past few days. I'm not too worried as I know that this is normal for me and I will get back on track very soon.

ShagMeRiggins · 15/01/2018 14:09

I love a good graph GailLondon

Pumpkin have you considered soy milk, unsweetened? I think it's under 3g per 100ml so relatively low carb.

thedayismine · 15/01/2018 14:09

Pretty bird three stone is amazing - there are some real inspirations on this thread .

ShagMeRiggins · 15/01/2018 14:14

BIWI what about using Google forms as a database for recipes?

The recipe thread could be converted with simple cut and paste. Tedious, but simple enough. And all new recipes could be added by individuals.

I mocked up a quick sample just now of how it could be used, and this was from a phone. I kind of love a bit of data entry so would be happy to take a chunk of the recipes and convert them.

My mock up is coarse--there's lots that can be done such as adding buttons or fields etc, depending on how fancy we want it and how much data we wish to capture (e.g. whether suitable for BC or BC Light).

If it's of interest, let me know and I'll explore Google forms some more (like search facility, or what's the point?). Or someone else might know all about Google forms and answer some questions.

BadlyParkedRangeRover · 15/01/2018 14:15

Back to LCHF!
B: FF greek yoghurt and double cream
L: halloumi and salad
D: probably chicken curry and caul rice

Itsjanuary · 15/01/2018 14:15

Well done everyone - inspiring me to koko

Re milk in tea - it’s 5g per 100ml - way more than you need so is a slash of milk in tea ok? Need a cup before I can function in the morning.

prettybird · 15/01/2018 14:17

In fact - my dad is so impressed with my weight loss that he's going to give this WoE a go when he gets back from South Africa in February! Grin He's a cynical medic - but had already changed to full fat milk even before I'd described this WoE to him as "he'd read the research that it was better for you" ShockSmile

I'll send him the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness and not this thread though! Wink

BrassicaBabe · 15/01/2018 14:17

I.4lb off for me. Happy with that as this is my second BC. I'm also exercising like a loon these days.

Oh and fitted in size 10 jeans enough to wear them out!! Grin

C4rollinandventing · 15/01/2018 14:18

Well done everyone, haven't weighed yet as I'm still away enjoying the Welsh sunshine.

I've managed to stick to the rules all weekend thanks to a bit of forward planning.

ShagMeRiggins · 15/01/2018 14:19

Meant to include this @BIWI

New Year, New Start Week 2: This WoE works!
PrincessPeaPod · 15/01/2018 14:20

Hello all! Well done on all the great results. I lost 4lb! My goal this week is to not have a carb meltdown again and to cone on here if I get the urge to stuff my face!

B: mushroom and egg, slice of cheese

L: leftover beef with tomato and mayo

Tonight I am making a lasagne but will replace the pasta with layered aubergine and mozzarella.

Still struggling on the water front. But doing much better than last week.

Gammeldragz · 15/01/2018 14:24

4.6lb off for me (at 165.4), which makes 6.6lb since Jan 1st so I've nearly got rid of my Christmas gain. However, I was this exact weight at one point at the end of October and then bounced around by 2-3lb until Christmas. Lowest weight last year was 163.8, so I'm aiming to to get below that by the end of the month. Like Prettybird I'm around 3 stone off in total, but I started last January.

Passed my exam this morning so I treated myself to a few new clothes (in Primark, still losing so don't want to go mad!).

ShagMeRiggins · 15/01/2018 14:32

ItsJanuary there are appx 5 tablespoons in 100ml. How much milk do you use? If it's an actual splash, then that wouldn't be more than one or two carbs, and if it's really only one tea day...

Huge congrats on passing your exam ragz and splendid reward. Much better than a bar of chocolate or bottle of wine.

BrassicaBabe at first I thought you meant wear them out in the sense of putting holes in them from overuse.

"Here's me in my size 10 jeans. I wear them to work, to bed, to the gym, for swimming..." Wink

Pumpkintopf · 15/01/2018 14:43

Thanks @Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es and @Rshard - I usually have ss milk and like my tea quite milky so it is quite a change for me - might try the soy milk @Rshard , thanks for the suggestion. In fact even the grey Oatly which has been recommended in a dairy free thread has only 4.1 g of sugary carbs per 100ml - is that ok?

StuntNun · 15/01/2018 15:05

Pumpkin the grey Oatly Barista is the same as cows milk in terms of carbs so no point switching. I like unsweetened almond milk but the only one I like in tea is Almond Breeze fresh unsweetened so it might be worth trying different brands.

Pumpkintopf · 15/01/2018 15:07

Ah, ok thanks @StuntNun - I'll try a few more then!
