Week 7 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Still with us?!

Morning campers Flowers

Here's the SoF

From last week's thread it sounds like most people are managing to stick on track for most of the time, which is great.

We have four full weeks left, so still time to make a big difference.

Hope this week goes well.

Scabbers I would get your cholesterol tested before thinking about making any changes. A lot of people find their lipid profile actually improves on LCHF. If you're in the small group whose LDL becomes elevated then you can use more monounsaturated fats (e.g. olive oil) instead of added animal fats.

Gammeldragz · 23/11/2017 06:52

prettybird I bought that Lidl 95% chocolate yesterday! Grim... Will have to use it for cooking.
c4 so sorry for your husband, that's understandably a massively stressful time.

Thiswillbemyusername · 23/11/2017 07:22

Sorry about your husband @C4 Sad

The fat head pizza I binged on last night cost me 2lb. Serves me right really.

I am now on a self-enforced cheese ban until I get back to my previous weight

HolgerDanske · 23/11/2017 07:29

Sorry about life being so shit at the moment C4. Flowers

I am down by two pounds on Monday’s weight, this morning. Hopefully it will stick now.

Have a great day everyone!

BIWI · 23/11/2017 07:44

I'm so sorry to hear about your DH, C4. And totally get why low carbing is just a step too far for you right now.

Did he get a good redundancy package? Does it give him enough breathing space before he finds a new role? My DH was made redundant a few years ago, but we knew it was coming - essentially his role was developing a system that would make his own job obsolete Hmm, but nevertheless it wasn't an easy time.

C4. That sounds really difficult, I know he did a lot of travelling so being at home will be a huge adjustment for him.

ilove. Bodies are amazing!

Scabbersley · 23/11/2017 08:11

Thanks for the cholesterol advice. I will wait and see what they say.

c4 I am sorry to hear you are having such an awful time. Uncertainty is a bitch Sad

Thiswillbemyusername I thought you couldn't binge on this diet? Isn't a fathead pizza low carb? I get very confused about carbs v calories. A fathead pizza would have lots of fat and calories but not many carbs, and you split it over two meals? Surely that wouldn't have added 2lb?

I saw 12.1 for a blissful minute this morning. Thursday is always my lowest weight!

Thiswillbemyusername · 23/11/2017 08:23

@Scabbersley I was thinking it could be down to the whole block of leerdammer I used in the base, and the added cheese on top

prettybird · 23/11/2017 08:29

C4 - what a worrying time for all of you Sad. I seem to recall that your dh was being asked to take on yet more responsibility - was that a factor in him being made redundant?

Had my first fathead pizza last night (less than half of one as ds was sharing it! Wink): it was good but I could probably have done with cooking it a bit longer and/or rolling it a bit thinner (or making two separate bases). Might try including bicarb of soda next time as I've seen that in one of the recipes.

Thiswillbemyusername · 23/11/2017 08:44

@prettybird what does bicarb of soda do to it?

Mimosa1 · 23/11/2017 08:49

Oh c4 it's lovely to hear from you although I'm sorry you're having such a tough time and I'm sorry that your DH has lost his job. I seem to recall from an earlier thread that his job was quite stressful so maybe in time this will seem a blessing in disguise? Sorry, it's really shit though.

Rshard look forward to reading your mini goals and hope we hit them!

Kleptronic · 23/11/2017 09:15

Blimey C4 it never rains but it pours Flowers

prettybird · 23/11/2017 09:26

Thiswillbemyusername - bicarb is a raising agent, so it might, conversely, make the outside more crispy and the inside softer.

ilovecherries · 23/11/2017 09:28

Have been running. In sleet and wet snow. :(. If I were on I stagram I'd probably add hashtags at this point saying #NoExcuses #NeverGiveUp #Blessed. Given I'm not on insta, I will just say it was a bloody horrible experience which can only be fixed with a large fusion of hot coffee!

SayrraT · 23/11/2017 10:56

That's dedication ilove Grin

I did the first week of interval training with my horse this morning (we use the winter months to get fit for next season). I'm exhausted, he was fine Grin

C4 don't know what to say except that's totally shit Sad

I love fathead pizza and despite several people saying you can't eat the whole thing, I can! I'm a greedy pig though.

Week 7 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Still with us?!
TimeIhadaNameChange · 23/11/2017 11:03

So very sorry to hear that, C4. Remember, your DH is very lucky to have you and he knows it, even if he doesn't always show it. You two are very strong together, and you will get through this.

This morning's trip to the gym was far less eventful than yesterday's. It was the bit after that didn't go as well as planned. First, had a real struggle getting out of my sports bra (only bought one as it was cheap, and as I only have two it was getting tricky wrt to washing them but still having one to wear) - it got to the point where I was wondering which of my colleagues I could call upon to help!!!!! I managed it eventually. Then, I got out the shower and realised that although I'd got my towels down from the peg I hadn't actually taken them out of the office, so I had to throw on my sweaty sportswear again in able to run back to my office (luckily just around the corner on the same corridor) and pick them up! I don't think anyone noticed.

Like everyone else, it seems, I made fathead pizza last night, only I'd run out of baking paper so used foil, and, although I remembered to think about greasing it beforehand I naturally forgot when the time came. How many carbs in foil????? (Joke, just lost half the base to it!)

poorbuthappy · 23/11/2017 11:27

C4 that’s a horrid thing to happen and sending you good vibes for stuff to get sorted as soon as possible with the least amount of stress.**

I’m gonna have to stop this WOE I think.i can’t handle the amount of blood I’m losing.**
I don’t feel ill or anything but it’s so heavy and shows no signs of stopping or even abating.**

Shame as I have lost a stone now.**

poorbuthappy · 23/11/2017 11:28

Sorry about the bold. On my phone and don’t know how I managed that!

TimeIhadaNameChange · 23/11/2017 11:37

I've emended this week's weigh-in to the upper weight, which means I stayed the same. No idea what the scales are playing at, though at least they've been consistent this week with the first weight a couple of pounds above the subsequent ones. But I have always taken the first (and, most times, only) weight as the truth so I'll continue to do so. And, if, at a later date I discover that the lower one is more accurate I'll be in for a nice surprise!

Scabbersley · 23/11/2017 12:29

sayrra I've just been out with my three, am exhausted now!

I am STARVING this week and for the first time ever have been really missing a biscuit with my cup of tea. I know eating sugar is a slippery slope and I am not going to do it, but I did buy some 85% choc yesterday and had a square which made the craving go away.

Cant. Stop. Eating

B: bacon and eggs
S: two pieces of salami with an olive rolled up inside. Square of choc.
L: fried brussels, broccoli and a crumbled up sausage and cheese. Half an avocado with mayo.
D: not sure. Really fancy a fathead pizza after reading all teh comments about it!

Rshard · 23/11/2017 14:02

Zooming in to record today's food so far
B - omelette and avo
L - cauliflower and b sprouts, with grated cheese
D - likely to be salad with tuna or similar

well done ilove, I don't envy you sleet and snow! Very windy here which is bad enough.

Your story (and yesterday's) made me chuckle time

YoLoElfSocks · 23/11/2017 14:16

time i have the same problem with sports bras. Easier to get out of a straitjacket under water with chains on!

ilove medal of the week goes to you!! That's dedication!

I have a question: how does one make the sprouts not bitter? I've boiled, microwaved in butter, and roasted and still that nasty bitter aftertaste. Only way they aren't too bitter is thinly sliced and fried and then only small quantities. I want to like sprouts. It's proving a challenge.

Rshard · 23/11/2017 14:55

I’ve found they taste less bitter with microwaving them yolo, but to be honest I love em.

StuntNun · 23/11/2017 15:04

YoLo the ability to taste bitterness in sprouts is genetic. So you're the problem, not the sprouts!

StuntNun · 23/11/2017 15:07

Here's an article about the Brussels sprouts gene
