Morning campers Flowers

Here's the SoF

From last week's thread it sounds like most people are managing to stick on track for most of the time, which is great.

We have four full weeks left, so still time to make a big difference.

Hope this week goes well.

Yolo - I've found different sprout varieties can be more bitter. The ones I'm currently buying from Lidl I find quite sweet.

I do seem to recall reading somewhere that shredding them and frying in butter makes them less bitter - so that ties in with your experience. Have you tried putting a bit of freshly grated nutmeg on them? I also find that they need the salt/Lo-salt to bring out the sweetness. Crumbled crispy bacon would also help set off the flavour.

YoLoElfSocks · 23/11/2017 15:50

Interesting stunt!! Might be why all my family hate the little green buggers!

Thanks for the tips pretty. I think they would go quite well with salt chilli pork belly slices. Will continue frying thinly sliced in butter!

Thank you everyone for your kind words and good wishes. Just to clarify a bit, he has been at a very senior level in the organisation for many years, they work in a very challenging market place with very high value contracts. He hasn't been made redundant, he has a twelve month notice period but is not being offered anywhere near twelve months salary as a settlement. He can't work in the industry for twelve months from the date his employment ends, that coupled with the circumstances he's leaving under, he's worked there since leaving university and is 56 will make for a pitiful CV I think.

We still have kids at university and a wedding to contribute to next year, we are mortgage free but spent a fortune having this house adapted just three years ago, if we have to sell now we won't get the money back. He won't let me tell the kids yet so no support, he lives for work so doesn't have a social life outside work so he has nobody to talk to.

Mimosa1 · 23/11/2017 18:03

C4 that's grim, I'm sorry. It's worth getting an employment lawyer to look at the contract. I've been told in another context that most noncompetes are uninforceable.

prettybird · 23/11/2017 18:10

I know if he's senior, he'll probably know all of this himself - but maybe in the shock (and yes, grief) he hasn't thought it through yet but a) if his notice period is 12 months, then why isn't he getting that in a settlement? and b) can he negotiate it as a redundancy as there are tax advantages. Also, iirc, PIL is tax free (might have only been the amount I got though) - at least check out if some of it can be tax free. Plus PIL should include other remuneration, such as pension contributions/car allowance.

If they are not paying him for a full year, they can't require him to constrain his earning capacity for a full year either. Iir, such garden leave/restrictive clauses are difficult to enforce legally because the infringement on ability to find jobs.

In terms of his CV, that is easily addressed by saying he took the opportunity to spend some time with his critically ill wife (swallow your pride and let him do this). Provided he maintains his networks informally - and they can't stop him doing this, his skillset should be in demand at the end of his "garden leave".

Caveat: I'm not legal but have gone through a couple of redundancies. He really should be getting proper legal advice.

prettybird · 23/11/2017 18:23

Just to reiterate that I am neither a lawyer, nor in HR, but I found this article on whether restrictive covenants are enforceable

http://www.lindermyers.co.uk/are-restrictive-covenants-enforceable/

.....courts don't look favourably on stoping specialists from being able to make a living due to the restrictive covenant.

C4rollinandventing · 23/11/2017 19:52

Thanks prettybird, it's DH who had the restrictive covenants put in using top rated solicitors, the company have just taken several other former employees to court and won on this matter.
Basically if he pushes too hard at the negotiating table they will sack him for not making enough money. It's being dressed up as early retirement which nobody will be fooled by as most of the company and customers are aware of the very robust succession planning for his exit, taking the new person to meet key customers etc, him staying on as a consultant three days a week, blah blah.
Next Saturday we have to face the whole company at the Christmas party and for once the withering looks of pity won't be just because I'm disabled. I'm so fucking furious but sad beyond measure too and terrified of what it will be like having him at home, I've already accepted that I've lost my puppy because he will be able to do exciting walks in places wheelchairs can't go and Lola loves a good romp through the woods.

thedayismine · 23/11/2017 20:43

Hello all - just checking in to say woo hoo I weighed this morning and am another 2lbs down . Over the moon.
Got my eye on the 10s now and am feeling so motivated seeing all the other people who have made it there this boot camp !

Also so sorry to hear of your latest bad news C4. I was pleased to see you were posting!
My husbands old boss has just experienced something similar after 15 years running a company successfully. It must be incredibly difficult to get your head around it. I recall how hard DH took redundancy 10
Years ago too . Not sure any of that is helpful to you but he will come out the other side. Hopefully it will be a bit easier when you can both get some more RL support too. Hang in there !

Almahart · 23/11/2017 20:55

Oh C4 what an absolute nightmare Flowers

So sorry

Veryflummoxed · 23/11/2017 20:56

C4 I cannot add anything helpful but Thanks

Grah0SoontobeaFitty · 24/11/2017 06:27

C4
How's the breathing?
The MUNDANE run of the mill living things?
Are you able to get off the machine long enough to go the the Xmas do?

.Are you able to get up and start training for GNR?

Hows little Alfie?
The belt tightening is as you said going to happen so start hugging and enjoy as I expect plotting revenge for 12 months will be very profitable.
Or perhaps a chance to switch in career to dog trainer for filling in the shortages you found when looking.

As for Lola you'll be the best lap snuggle you can be and she'll never be far away. Wonder how much you could make combining your hobbies making doggie clothes
Or writing the C4 chronicles or lchf cookbooks
End of day nothing to be gained by stressing and ending up in hospital again. Take care.dont run over anyone's toes at the do.

Thiswillbemyusername · 24/11/2017 07:51

Morning campers. I had a woosh today! I'm only back to the weight I was a week ago though Grin fingers crossed it sticks

Rshard · 24/11/2017 08:08

Good work thiswillbe

SoMuchToBits · 24/11/2017 08:18

Morning! Ds and I are going out this evening to celebrate my birthday. We're going to a nice Indian restaurant, so there should be plenty of low carb options. I may have a glass or two of wine though. Smile

blackteaplease · 24/11/2017 08:33

C4, that all sounds very stressful on top of your health issues. Hold your head high at the christmas do.

I saw 138 on the scales this morning which was exciting, I am thinking that I may be able to reach my end goal by the end of bootcamp rather than just the stone I had in mind. I'm off to the inlaws this weekend for a quick overnight, only need to survive one dinner and breakfast, which should be ok. I need to call MIL and suggest some low carb sides for dinner for me. The last time she used sweet potato which was well intentioned but not very LC.

YoLoElfSocks · 24/11/2017 09:01

Happy birthday somuch !

Great support there grah. I second everything you said. Chin up C4. Lola is your baby and she knows it!

Almahart · 24/11/2017 09:02

Am thrilled as having STS for three weeks I have lost 3ibs this week. So am two pounds off my goal for the end of November which should be totally doable.

Am going away for a boozy child free weekend next weekend so need to be careful not to pile it back on. We'll be in Ireland. Am guesssing Guinness is about as high carb as you can get Sad

Rshard · 24/11/2017 11:09

Wow blacktea, how close?

Happy birthday somuch, enjoy your Indian

Nice woosh alma

I’m going to struggle to weigh in next eeek as I’m interviewing Monday to Wednesday and won’t have time to get to my branch of Boots in the morning. Would it be dreadful to weigh in on Thursday?

Thiswillbemyusername · 24/11/2017 11:25

@Rshard it'll be fine Grin

blackteaplease · 24/11/2017 11:30

if this 138 sticks this week then I need to shed another 5lbs, most weeks I have managed 1.5lbs loss apart from the blip over my birthday so I am cautiously optimistic that I can achieve this.

Happy birthday SoMuch, enjoy your Indian tonight.

Rshard · 24/11/2017 11:50

Thanks thiswill, was fretting a bit!

I’m aiming for the same goal, you’ll be my inspiration blacktea!

blackteaplease · 24/11/2017 12:07

Thanks Rshard, I've never been an inspiration before.

blackteaplease · 24/11/2017 12:27

Oh my word, I may have changed my mind about sprouts. You've all been raving about them and I have always hated them in the past so I resisted your comments. ds asked for some in the shop today so I boiled them to eat alongside lunch, surprise surprise he didn't like them so I tried one and it was deliciious. I may have a new favourite veg.

FurryTurnip · 24/11/2017 12:37

Checking in, finally got a new phone so feel like I'm back in the land of the living. I'm not massively reliant on my phone, don't do social media etc, but really missed not seeing what everyone was up to on here!

Some great successes on here, too many to keep track of. And sad news too C4. It sounds like you have had a lifetimes worth of bad stuff thrown at you recently, so hope things start to turnaround.

Not been checking in much but staying on track. I have developed a bit of a poppadom addiction though, so I need to cut that out.

B: Greek yogurt, raspberries, flax seed, cream
L: currently in a cafe awaiting a spinach and cheese omlette
D:, will be leftover paneer makhani with cauli rice (and maybe the last poppadom...)

Have a good day everyone, hope the sun is shining where you are, it's glorious in the Peak District today.

FurryTurnip · 24/11/2017 12:39

By the way, does anyone use the Talk app? If so is there a shortcut to get to most recent post rather than scrolling for ages? It also annoyingly removed all my paragraphs from last post!
