We filled up the last thread and we still have 3 weeks to go until the next official BC so here is our new inbetween BC thread.

So, I was good yesterday and now all of my confessions are lost on the previous thread Grin but I am going to carry on with daily weighing and food recording so this morning I weighed 225 lbs.

I am freezing cold today, is this a low carb thing? This is the start of my week 3 (6 lbs down, hurrah) but today I'm absolutely freezing. Yesterday I was hungry between meals for the first time, but my portions hadn't been as big as usual due to needing to do a food shop. Any ideas or maybe I'm just coming down with something. Cheers

StuntNun · 27/04/2015 12:56

No chance of any thyroid issues Mini? Otherwise KOKO and see how you feel in a day or two.

BabsUnited · 27/04/2015 13:22

hi everyone. Good weekend here on plan. I went a staggering 6 hours without food yesterday, without feeling weird and shaky and stuffing down choc and crisps to make myself feel 'better'. Hooray!

Had the most amazing lunch: Half a tomato, about 10cms of cucumber sliced, mayo, spinach/rocket leaves, an avocado and some roast chicken pieces. with some olive oil over the leaves.

Breakfast was ham and soft cheese 'rolls', these are delicious! had a handful of my nemesis, pistachios, but I seem to still be losing weight (8lbs in 2weeks 6 days) so not going to flagellate myself over the nuts.

Seem to be coming down with a cold today though, am sniffly and I also feel quite cold minibmw. But the weather is confusing, it looks glorious outside but its actually quite cold (in central London) and the office is cool so I feel a bit shivery and not up to drinking gallons of cold water. Oh well. Will try and glug it down! I tried a camomile and honey herbal infusion on Friday night (my treat Hmm) and it tastes too sweet! I can't believe how quickly my tastebuds have adapted, i used to mainline chocolate, biscuits and crisps and other sugary things and not feel they were sugary at all

lisbapalea · 27/04/2015 13:51

I think I managed to bypass a lowcarb disaster at my mum's for lunch as I took control of what we ate - prepped a salad for us both with a slice of parma ham, some bits of brie, blue cheese, a small amount of walnuts, cucumber, tiny bit of raw red pepper, lots of lettuce and an olive oil and mustard dressing. I don't think it will fill me up massively as there wasn't a huge amount of fat or protein in it, so may need to snack on something this afternoon.

I have started grazing on nuts which I think I should have saved for a few weeks' time, so think I need to be a bit more organised in making sure I have some snackable options ready for me...

BabyGiraffeOnIce · 27/04/2015 14:09

Hello again Ladies,

disappeared off the radar this weekend - lots of family stuff going on and just had no time to MN. slipped a little with an ice cream and some dough balls Friday night ( 2 glasses of rose too oops)

back on it Saturday and a mixed kebab from the takeaway for tea last night.

have put an inch of the 3 inch loss around my hips back on, but thats not a surprise after Friday.

today breakfast was full fat cottage cheese rolled up with smoked salmon.

tuna mayonnaise for lunch with lettuce cucumber and a quarter of a red pepper.

salmon with lemon butter sauce for tea tonight :)

and a holiday in approx 76 hours - cannot wait.

congrats on the twin news! and well done bc'ing everyone - definitely helps me stay on track when i see everyone else is managing.

nappyaddict · 27/04/2015 14:23

Is it normal to feel hungry 3.5 hrs after eating breakfast on this WOE? Breakfast was a handful of chicken, 4 cherry tomatoes and 3 fried eggs all fried in butter.

Romeyroo · 27/04/2015 14:32

I'm hungry today, nappyaddict, but I am putting it down to being up at the crack of dawn but not eating till 10am, and also not having eaten dinner last night due to being too busy. So, I think one short gap between meals in its own does not mean much, look at the overall context of your day/couple of days. I know tonight I need to eat a proper dinner, for example.

Gcalgske · 27/04/2015 14:35

B: BPC
L: 2 eggs and 2 tbsp olive oil whisked together and cooked into an omelette (great way to get more fat onboard). Filled omelette with smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers, tomato and shallot. Yummy

nappyaddict · 27/04/2015 14:41

See I had the opposite last night.

I had cauliflower and leeks in brie for breakfast at 8.30. A large coffee at about 9.30-10.30.

Then didn't get home until 1.30pm, did a mad tidy up for visitors at 2.30pm who left at 3.30pm. DS had a quick sandwich then as we were going to the park and for a walk but I didn't prepare anything for me and DP. We did not eat dinner until 7.15pm so we were both starving.

I did a portion of what I would normally eat easily of pulled pork, carrots, green beans, asparagus fried in butter and broccoli and cauliflower in cheese and double cream sauce. I ate the carrots, green beans, asparagus and half of the cauliflower and broccoli and felt full. I carried on eating the pork as was really looking forward to it but only managed a bit as I started to feel sick.

Romeyroo · 27/04/2015 14:48

Did you have lunch though? So, yesterday you had breakfast at 8.30 and then dinner at 7.15 with coffee in between. I would be hungry the next day with that too. I don't think there was much fat in your breakfast either?
But I am not an expert, I am just going on how I would feel.
I feel like my eating and mood is all over the place at the moment, so whilst it is BC-friendly, it is not three meals a day properly and that is having an effect.

DarkEvilMoon · 27/04/2015 14:50

It is deceptively cold today. we turned the heating back on in the office as hands were going blue. Hmm
less said about my food intake the better.

nappyaddict · 27/04/2015 14:54

No I didn't have lunch, that's why I was surprised I couldn't finish my dinner as I was very hungry at the start of my dinner. The leeks and cauliflower were cooked in butter and then I melted brie over the top.

minibmw2010 · 27/04/2015 15:29

I think it's the cold that's making me peckish, I've just had a snack of pate and baby lettuce, that'll keep me going. So pleased my first thought wasn't a sandwich ??

nappyaddict · 27/04/2015 15:33

I have discovered a new snack. A pickled shallot between 2 slices of cheese Blush

TheHappyCamper · 27/04/2015 15:51

I think if you are hungry then eat, if you're not then don't (or just have a tiny snack). I'm finding that some days I'm really hungry and others not so much but with no rhyme or reason to it. I'm just going with it tbh as I haven't been doing this long enough to work it out!

My ketosticks arrived today and it went pink so that has made me feel relieved that I'm not accidentally eating too many carbs.

B: 2 fried eggs and 3 thin sausage
S: handful almonds
L: chicken Caesar salad
4 black teas and loads of water

D will be gammon steak, fried egg, greens sautéed in butter (asparagus, broccoli, mange tout, green beans and spring greens). I have got 5 pineapple chunks as well. Is pineapple really bad - it's pretty sweet!?

Notso · 27/04/2015 15:55

Hello everyone, can I come back into the low carb chat?
I was on the last bootcamp then erm fell into a few cakes off the wagon a bit Blush
I haven't done terribly but really need to get back on track sharpish.

Breakfast- coffee with cream
Lunch - blue cheese salad
Dinner- pulled pork with salad and coleslaw

minibmw2010 · 27/04/2015 15:55

Pineapple is quite high in carbs I think, about 13g per 100g.

Can someone explain the ketosticks for me?

Fatstacks · 27/04/2015 16:26

Hello Notso Smile

I agree that the cold makes me hungry.

Instead of being busy in the garden I'm huddled on the sofa scoffing.

I have loads of stuff to do for work too, a full page of red star emails but I'm sat thinking what to have for dinner Blush

Wombat22 · 27/04/2015 17:11

mini Ketosticks are used to dip into urine to tell if your body is in ketosis. There is a sliding scale of colour from (Purple to pink I think) the deepest shade indicating full ketosis, however, BIWI has previously said that if you're drinking enough water, the shade will be very light so they are not really worth it. Many lc still use them though. hth

BerylStreep · 27/04/2015 17:14

Hi notso

Mini I will attempt to explain the ketosticks, but you might get a more reliable explanation by googling.

Basically, if you eat carbs, your body burns them first, and also stores energy as glycogen in your muscles and liver. Any excess sugar is converted to fat by insulin.

If you reduce carbs, your body uses up the stored glycogen, then turns to the energy which is stored as fat - so your body becomes what is called 'ketogenically adapted' which means it is capable of burning fat directly. A byproduct of ketogenesis (the burning of fat) are what are called ketones, which are excreted in your urine, and what ketosticks detect.

You pee on a ketostick, and depending on the level of ketones, will show up as light pink to dark purple.

The only thing, is that there is a negative feedback loop with ketones. If you body detects too high a level of ketones, it will perceive a food shortage, and stop burning fat. That is one of the reasons why it is a good idea to drink lots of water on this WOE - to flush out the ketones and fool your body into continuing to burn fat. If you are drinking sufficient water, the ketosticks should only show as light pink.

Disclaimer - these are ketosticks as I understand them - some of it may be completely incorrect.

Preminstreltension · 27/04/2015 17:34

If your body is not burning fat because it doesn't have enough water to make that conversion, and it doesn't have access to carbs (glycogen?) because you haven't been eating any, what does it burn to keep you going?

Is it doing something bad like attacking muscle?

Gcalgske · 27/04/2015 17:47

I get very cold and hungry the day before a whoosh!

Fatstacks · 27/04/2015 18:00

Oooh G.c don't get me hopes up Grin

minibmw2010 · 27/04/2015 18:58

Thank you, those explanations have helped loads ?? Ooh a whoosh would be nice Smile

LexLoofah · 27/04/2015 19:12

hello all, too tired to remember to weigh this morning so no idea how I am doing

b - 2 scr eggs in butter, quarter avo, cuppa
l - sort of a waldorf salad: leftover slow cooker chicken, mustard mayo dressing, celery, walnuts, spinach
d - will be pork & beef ragu from the freezer over buttered shredded cabbage

feeling pretty glum today, in limbo with our repatriation, not going quick enough for my liking. Anyway I popped to the shop at lunchtime for a few bits, put some dark choc in my basket but took it out again, glad I did otherwise would be scoffing some right now. My desk drawer is bare so will just have to do without, all comfort eating of course, not related to being in any way deprived or hungry
