Week 4 - January Low Carb Bootcamp - KOKO!

Morning campers!

You know the drill! Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for your delectation

So week 3 is fairly typically a bit of a bastard. And I'm afraid to have to tell you all that week 4 is sometimes its best friend.

Don't panic if the scales aren't moving, or even if you're seeing a slight increase. This is totally totally normal for this period of time

Keep focused, make sure you're following the rules - particularly eating the fat and drinking the water - and things should get going again shortly.

If you're struggling, post here rather than dive into the biscuit tin!

Good luck everyone

Bastard of a day, not going well at all. I'm not well, my bloody cold has inspired my sinusitis and TN to join in, and having a stressy day on top of that. So i have eaten half a pot of clotted cream with a few raspberries. As with lunch, i think i may do okay on fat today...

Takeaway kebab coming for tea, sans pita.

miffy49 · 13/02/2015 16:59

Does the Tesco extra thick cream stay gloopy if you stir it? I like to add a bit of vanilla and I've found that the Asda one goes instantly to butter and the Sainsbury one tends to break down to a similar texture to normal double cream. Can't win!

Also, didn't someone post about 'fried' green beans cooked in the oven and used for dipping like chips? I looked back miles but can't find the post. Getting a bit sick of endless cauli and broc!

dixiejo · 13/02/2015 17:11

hhmmm... miffy fried green beans for dipping sound good. I too would love to hear about that.

Can anyone help me out with a recipe for mashed swede? I'm on page 13 of the recipe thread and have given up finding it!

thank you!

Amaxapax · 13/02/2015 17:19

Dixie, people have had varying degrees of success, but for mashed swede I've been putting my swede in the microwave for about eight minutes on each side, then cutting it in half and scooping out the cooked flesh. I mash it up with lots of butter and some pepper. I think it's amazingly delicious and tastes a bit like buttery corn. I'm having it tonight with sausages.

dixiejo · 13/02/2015 17:27

lush, thanks amax

Mrsstevejones · 13/02/2015 17:52

So i have eaten like 6 choc truffles this afternoon. sigh.

B - BPC no coconut oil just butter and cream
S- Green smoothie
L- Out- 3x bacon, 1 sausage 1 plum tomato and mayo
D- Poss another green smoothie or pork and stir fried broccoli

Had a lovely dance with the kids to cheesy 80s music, daughter was very impressed with my moves but then she is 3.

Feeling slightly sick - i still have no power in regards to chocolate it would seem - will give the rest away to Mil tom.

Tomorrow we have a kiddie free day and night -yay. I am planning on only eating 2 meals. So the plan is BPC for breakfast and poss a green smoothie then a late lunch out 3pm.
We are going to a fav restaurant that serves AMAZING ribs - i cant possibly not have them and i know it will blow my diet but i am all about damage limitation.
Plan is to have a tomato and mozzarella salad for starter then chicken and ribs - they will be drizzled in BBQ sauce but will ask for only half the sauce, no fries and a side salad as an accompaniment. No pudding and no cocktails.

I WILL be drinking at the ball and will opt for bacardi and D coke ( couldnt drink it with anything else). There will be lots of dancing and we will prob walk home after. I know its not ideal but will get straight back on to BC the sunday morning. I am fully expecting a stall and wont weigh monday. Is that a good plan for damage limitation - can anyone suggest any tweaks?
This will be second night ( and about 4th since dc born) out with DH since DS born so really want to enjoy it.

SO EXCITED and after an afternoon nap i feel like i have thrown off my lergy and totm is stopping.

sassandfaff · 13/02/2015 18:10

Miffy I doubt you will want to add vanilla. It is DIVINE........

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 13/02/2015 18:11

Anyone else watching eat well for less and sighing every time the 'experts' mention low fat amd how great sweetener is Hmm Grin

sassandfaff · 13/02/2015 18:12

Sorry. In answer to your question- I haven't stirred it, so I don't know.

Weird double post soz

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 13/02/2015 18:28

Mm, that dirty doner was rather yummy

Usual snack tonight, one piece of chocolate and a liquorice tea

miffy49 · 13/02/2015 18:31

Not had much success myself with microwaving the full swede. I do cook it in the microwave though as I think its less watery and sweeter. Lots of butter and lots of black pepper Dixie. Swede and black pepper go well together. I like a splodge of cream in it too.

miffy49 · 13/02/2015 18:35

Thanks Sass. The Asda one and the Sainsburys Taste the Difference both need a stir as they are thicker at the top but as soon as the spoon goes in they clump together and then taste grainy. I tend to add vanilla to make my yoghurt a bit different some days. Prefer the vanilla in the cream to being stirred into the yoghurt. Now all I need is for Tesco to be nearer! Grin

lurkingmurking · 13/02/2015 18:37

Ultimate challenge, DS5 chose cinema and pizza for his half term treat. I swerved the popcorn and sweets and am having chicken salad!!

MrsKoala · 13/02/2015 18:43

Is it possible to eat too much fat on this WOE? Is there a limit i should set?

Because the last 3 days i have eaten way more (loads of fatty meat and butter) and i think i have put on weight. My belly isn't as flat as it was and my clothes feel tighter. :(

I'm struggling a bit now and pretty hungry. I spend my time foraging around the kitchen for things to snack on. Today i have had:

B - 3 Egg omelette with cheese, spinach and mushrooms cooked in loads of butter.
L - (2 hrs later) Green pepper stuffed with half a pack of feta cheese, oregano and olive oil, roasted. On half a big bag of rocket and mixed leaves in an oily dressing.
s - salami, cup of marmite, 4 dst sp greek yogurt
D - salmon, buttery celeriac mash, greens in butter.

LexLoofah · 13/02/2015 19:03

Conferenc Lunch better today, actually had leaves with creamy dressing, tuna Nicoise (minus potatoes) and had beef, prosciutto and cheese from inside of sandwhices, took at detour so I didn't walk past the desserts. Feeling better after a camomile tea with tsp of honey and some lemon.

Not sure I will get to eat dinner as DH and I off to watch legends tennis later so might not get chance, will have lots of water instead

Have a great weekend all

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 13/02/2015 19:04

That lunch sounds yummy mrsk. How was your cup of marmite?

Mrsstevejones · 13/02/2015 19:12

Mrsk i am sure you can but as you are breast feeding you need far more calories than usual - i think i read it was 500 cals extra to feed a baby??

I am sure someone explained on last bootcamp that your body has to convert some of the fat to glucose for use by eyes and something else, this is called glucosegensis (sp) and that this is a really inefficient process meaning that whilst our cals may be higher than low fat dieting we still loose weight.

Looking at your day ( i am sure someone more knowledgeable will be along soon) but it does have a lot of dairy in. However as you are BF you do need more - sorry that isnt much help but it is something that i wonder about as well.

I have massively increased my fat and water this week whilst reducing my and caffeine and no change! Now going out at weekend so that wont help.

Today could just be a blip or hormonal - give it a few days and see how you get on?

Mrsstevejones · 13/02/2015 19:13

That should say - reducing my dairy! and it sucked - actually felt like A DIET!

MrsKoala · 13/02/2015 19:32

MrsS does butter count as dairy in this woe? Or are you just referring to the cheese? I'm not sure i could do this woe without cheese whether i was bfing or not Blush .

I think one of the main problems is that i eat my dinner way too late and graze/snack from 4-8pm because i am so hungry. But i don't get the time to cook and eat before that because i have the boys and have to do bedtimes etc.

Atm i am at my parents and they don't eat till 9ish. I am starving and have just had 3 brazils and a slice of cheese.

The only meal i've been really full for longer than 2-3hrs recently has been the pork belly roasted i had with loads of mayo and salad.

I feel really bloated today. :(

trashcanjunkie · 13/02/2015 19:41

Mrsk sometimes the body can interpret thirst as hunger. I forgot you are bf.... Is it possible you're thirsty?

Mrsstevejones · 13/02/2015 19:43

i THINK - butter doesnt count as dairy. No dairy is really hard, sorry i did it this week to fit my dress and i wont be doing it again and it hasnt had the affect i hoped.

I love green smoothies and i have one with avocado and coconut oil, it really fills me up. BPCs are great as well - an acquired taste though - both good ways of having fat with low carbs and protein. Could you try that as an afternoon snack?

I eat with the kids so lunch at 12 and dinner at 6 and i often have a snack at 4pm, there is no way i could hang on until 8-9pm!

When i am busy i often use the slow cooker and/ or do a massive roast at weekends making sure there are leftovers. If for some reason i dont eat with the kids i give them leftovers from night before - which i plate up for them the night its cooked. Meaning i only cook one meal in the evening for me and hubby.

Could bloating be hormonal? Not very helpful but find a way to eat dinner earlier? My kids are similar ages, its hard when they are this small.
