Week 4 - January Low Carb Bootcamp - KOKO!

Morning campers!

You know the drill! Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for your delectation

So week 3 is fairly typically a bit of a bastard. And I'm afraid to have to tell you all that week 4 is sometimes its best friend.

Don't panic if the scales aren't moving, or even if you're seeing a slight increase. This is totally totally normal for this period of time

Keep focused, make sure you're following the rules - particularly eating the fat and drinking the water - and things should get going again shortly.

If you're struggling, post here rather than dive into the biscuit tin!

Good luck everyone

Bitchy, while i'd like to blame yesterdays ice cream on my shit health, cant say i have had a particular carb craving while i've had this monster cold! It just looked too nice to resist.

Lunch btw is lc pancakes (fried in butter), stuffed with avocado, chicken and mayo. Tis gorgeous.

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 11/02/2015 14:33

Oh god, that really was sooo good. Thats my pancake day pancakes sorted!

BitchyDoesWitchyThings · 11/02/2015 14:33

I am struggling to shift this virus, did stuff yesterday and have spent today in bed not breathing and extreme earache. The not breathing thing is over doing it linked. But it makes food way too much effort. Too much effort to get too much effort to eat. And yet I am hungry and want something easy and picky. I was wondering if increasing the carby veg a little might be a way to help to shift the virus and rather than to just grab a packet of crisps or something equally carby and ready to go that actually I don't really want to eat. So it is not really about cravings more about tweaks that are needed to get me back on my feet and functioning again. Ie speedier recovery rate.

breakfast: couple of dinner spoons of yoghurt
Lunch: some cocktail sausages.

I have some mince I made yesterday for tea. But no veg cooked (it contains mushrooms and leeks in the mince) even shoving stuff in the microwave seems like too much effort today. Also i know when i am in this state it is when I burn stuff. In the past that has been pasta, boiled eggs (to the point of flames), veg, sausages etc. So it is all a bit of a struggle and I need to consider something for the days of feeling a little bit better.

Water intake is okish, only 2 coffees I have an evening meeting tonight so just trying to get to a point of functioning. I'd rather stay in bed tbh. But if I am home I will still have ds and he is being hard work atm. So out seems the easier option in some respects.

IF IT'S MAKING YOU PANICKY AND OBSESSIVE THEN STOP DOING IT! Grin

The whole idea of Bootcamp is that you don't count or weigh anything. It's designed to be simple.

I really don't get why people want to make it more complicated by using MFP, which is hugely unreliable.

Beyond, what's wrong with your mayo? The only way I know to rescue it is to whisk up an egg yolk in a bowl and then add the (?curdled??) mayo to it very slowly at first, whisking it in (i.e. effectively starting again to re-emulsify it). But I'd be surprised if that was what happened with not putting lemon juice in.

Just been to Strada for lunch and had a double size avocado/tomato/mozzarella salad as what I thought was the least bad thing on the menu. Does anyone know where there's a reliable carb counter for meals at e.g. Strada, Pizza Express, GBK (without the bun obviously!) etc?

StuntNun · 11/02/2015 14:47

ijustwanttobeme that doesn't sound like a huge amount of food, how many calories are you aiming for? Too few calories can be as damaging to weight loss as too many calories so it would be better to be guided by your hunger than by MFP which, while useful, is hardly gospel. Also your daily calorie intake will naturally vary from day to day depending on all manner of things such as the temperature, how active you are etc. It's the average intake over time that you need to look at, not a specific goal to be reached every day.

Grah0SoontobeaFatty · 11/02/2015 15:33

Bitchy,
I find a couple of niacin (Vit B3) 500mg spread thru out the day helps fighting down-in-the-dumps feelings. The Flushing gets the body so warm I'm sure it burns the bugs out. Smile

Was under orders by doc to do 3,000mg a day and found I never got the bugs when all 5 of the others in the house kept re-infecting each other.

So keep a bottle handy now.
But when you first take it take small dosages as the flush can be surprising.

Thumbwitch · 11/02/2015 15:35

Ijust - get your phone/tablet. Go into the App manager. DELETE THE MFP APP!! G'wan, do it now. Then you'll feel better because you won't be messing around with it any more.
Is that a big enough grip for you? Wink

Grah0SoontobeaFatty · 11/02/2015 15:39

Wondering for those that don't like BPC do you mix with a spoon or blitz with a blender?

I use a magic bullet and it comes out light brown frothy and creamy-
If I use a hand whisk or spoon it doesn't blend together and comes a dark and has a silky texture with the oily shiny look.

ijustwanttobeme · 11/02/2015 15:47

Grips held in both hands, thanks to BIWI and thumbwitch

Righto, have deleted mfp and will not worry at all about calories any more ??

Like I said, I was a bit extreme back in the day about calories, so will take a bit of getting used to I suppose.

I am eating loads and I'm rarely hungry or craving sweet stuff, so LC ing must be right for me. And I've lost 6lbs so far.

Amaxapax · 11/02/2015 15:51

I am not a coffee person, but am considering trying a BPC. Would one of those coffee frother whisk things work to mix everything up sufficiently?

Thumbwitch · 11/02/2015 15:54

Well done, IJust - you'll find it much more liberating without it now! Grin

Is a BPC made with cream instead of milk then? If so, I'd probably use the milk frother, but if it didn't work, I would then switch to the stick blender.

Mrsstevejones · 11/02/2015 16:21

Hi can someone explain how totm, water retention and whooshing work please. Mine has come a bit early. I havent lost a huge amount of weight yet only a pound in the last week (i know its a marathon not a sprint) but am i due a huge drop next week when totm buggers off??? Please say yes - cant remember how it worked last BC i although last time i was on for what felt like the entire time!

TIA

trashcanjunkie · 11/02/2015 16:27

trashcanjunkie · 11/02/2015 16:34

And oh dear god I've just seen how saggy my tits are in this pic.... It's definitely down to slouching, they really can't be that bad....

trashcanjunkie · 11/02/2015 16:38

I think we need to rename MFP to MY FUCKUP PAL Grin although I'm sure stuntnun had a way of adjusting the macro thingies to fat, protein then carbs so it was bc friendly.... But as BIWI says, it's bc, and there's no weighing or measuring needed. Tweaking.... is a different matter entirely, and very important if you aren't getting the results you feel you should, but really, that's something not for week three and four.

CharlieSierra · 11/02/2015 16:52

Bitchy I felt ropey last week and thought about trying something like starchy veg to see if it helped - I didn't in the end and I just started to feel better anyway, I honestly find my flares clear more quickly if I stick with the programme, definitely no wheat or sugary crap.

LexLoofah · 11/02/2015 17:12

hello all

B - 2 lc sausages that I could not eat last night, 2 eggs fried in butter, cuppa, BPC
L - mixed leaves, hm mayo, 1 tomato, cucumber, celery, radish, 3 big roast beef slices spread with mustard and rolled up around some spinach
D - have some lc ragu from the freezer thought I might try it with celeriac noodles. Also have some carrots with the tops on, kids will get the carrots but thought I would saute some of the greens and make pesto with the rest ?

rest of the week is going to be interesting as will be at a conference and the school fair

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 11/02/2015 17:19

Dinner - roast chicken thigh, garlic mushrooms, broccoli and cauli with cheese, carrot and swede mash. And bloody brussells sprouts. Thought they'd be fine as they're green. Grr! Luckily had about five? So about 5g??

SayraT · 11/02/2015 17:35

Sorry everyone, I've been quite busy driving around (200 miles today!) looking after dogs and writing my thesis (when I am stopped, I can't do it all at once) so not had time to do spreadsheet things. Mum coming for dinner tonight so won't be able to add anything this evening. I promise that I will do it at some point.

Food has been quite high in protein by accident and not enough veg. The easiest things to eat are protein!

B: Sausages, bacon, eggs, coffee with cream
L: Three chicken thighs with yummy yummy crispy skin
D: Cauli-pizza (pepperoni)

nowitsenough · 11/02/2015 17:44

I can't find the lc pancake recipw Sad Is it on the spreadsheet or the recipe thread? Are they nice, are they very cheesy? what do you have on them?

Today I had bacon and eggs for breakfast, for lunch salad and chicken drumsticks and for dinner we're having gammon with fried egg and cheesy broccoli.

Totm started today (bit irregular these days, peri menopausal), which may explain the cravings recently. Hoping now I'll find this easier and shift some weight/inches.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 11/02/2015 17:51

Can I ask about LC and calories?
I am not using MFP but have entered the day's food in a couple of times to see roughly how many carbs I'm eating. I've noticed that I come in around 1800 calories by accident, which is my TDEE. Do I need to create a calorie deficit as well as eat low carb to lose weight?
I'm eating more (it feels like) on LC and I'm not hungry at all, which is great, but if I'm still eating 1800 calories a day does that mean I won't lose weight?

LexLoofah · 11/02/2015 17:51

now

4oz cream cheese (full fat original i.e. not garlic & herb)
4 eggs

Blitz in the blender for about a minute

Fry in butter

I think it might be on the thread from a few bc's ago but I found it here: www.barefeetinthekitchen.com/2012/02/delicate-cream-cheese-pancakes.html#_a5y_p=1038924

I spread with butter, or maybe rolled up with creme fraiche or marscapone would be nice, and a few berries if you are having them.

I might do some with lemon zest for pancake day

Is anyone making a small treat for valentine's day? I might do bc lite for a day, was thinking truffles as just cream, dark choc and either nuts or cocoa to roll them in. I am sure one or two and I would be satisfied.

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 11/02/2015 18:02

I did it from memory, think the recipe i saw was 2 eggs, 2tbsp cream cheese and sweetener, fried in butter, but obv we make ours sans sweetener. This made four little-ish ones.

I had them stuffed with avocado, chicken and mayo, with a swoosh of lemon juice over it. Was very nice!

Romeyroo · 11/02/2015 18:02

trashcanjunkie forgive me, but you are way too self-critical - I see someone who looks lovely, slim figure (not a pre-requisite to look lovely, btw) and a good looking face. Seriously, there is no 'chub'! Not meaning to sound weird at all, btw, I haven't read the thread updates so not sure of context, I just don't see any chub!
