Week 3 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Where We Have a Decision to Make!

BIWI · 02/02/2015 07:40

Morning all.

Here's the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

So we've finished Bootcamp! Well done all Flowers or at least to all those who are still with us Grin

Now you have a decision to make. You can move on to Bootcamp Light, if you wish, which is more relaxed (to a degree). The rules are on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet - sorry, I don't have time to copy/paste this morning as I have to get off to work about 10 minutes ago.

But essentially it means that you can introduce nuts and berries - in moderation. You no longer have to have three meals a day. If you're not hungry, then it's fine to skip a meal - as long as you don't then dive into a pile of carbs when you get hungry! And you can have alcohol - again, in moderation.

If you're happy with the stricter Bootcamp then by all means stay on that, but please, please, please make sure that your carbs are coming from vegetables and salad. It's important that you get nutrition from these.

Or you can, if you like, do Bootcamp at the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

However

There is also something else you need to prepare for, and that is the dreaded weeks 3 and 4 slowdown!

It's something that lots of people experience. The weight loss suddenly stops, for no apparent reason. If this happens, don't worry and don't panic that you're doing anything wrong (assuming that you're not, of course Wink), just keep on keeping on, and it will get going again - albeit at a slower rate.

From here on, you should be expecting to see a loss of 1-2lbs a week.

Good luck everyone!

I like frozen berries and greek yoghurt for a 'treat'. If you mix the yoghurt in, it goes hard and is almost like ice cream. With a bit of dark chocolate, you could have a pretend binge?

If you prepare with treats for yourself, it should stop you falling face first into the kids' dairy milk?

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 07/02/2015 17:02

Oh and
D - 2 sausages, fried shallot and baby corn, roast swede and asparagus in goose fat, cauli, broccoli and green beans
clear dh is calorie counting from the sheer amount of veg!!

BitchyDoesWitchyThings · 07/02/2015 17:54

Nuts are good for something to pick. Also come and chat if you find yourself falling. There is usually someone about I can talk rubbish for england if needed and a distraction may well be possible.

Feeling much restored. Expecting to feel 100% rubbish, has helped my state of mind and combined with AF fucking off and only 1kg regain after a totally disasterous week I am dosed up on caffine yep too much and have pretty much been on an egg fast kinda thing. Not intentionally but just due to timings and choice of food for the carby twats of the household. Doing ok with the water side of things too. So feeling back in the zone.

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 07/02/2015 18:01

Pudding - blueberries and greek yoghurt.

Have a piece of chocolate ready for later too, to have with a liquorice tea once the kids are in bed

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 07/02/2015 18:02

Glad to see you're feeling better, bitchy Flowers

Mrsstevejones · 07/02/2015 18:30

Sending sympathies Wirecat - before you head to the path of darkness (carbs) just picture lying in bed in the morning after a binge. You will be all warm and snuggly and then you get that terrible moment of realisation before you are awake properly where you remember what you ate last night and that you have blown the diet and will stall your weightloss. Arrgghh - says the voice of past experience!

Whereas if you resist you can spring out of bed with the smugness that only a truly virtuous person can pull off!! You will then be rewarded with a massive whoosh once totm is over.

My worse time is hubbys gym nights - i really struggle then- the irony!

I had a facial and spent far too much on products but hopefully will do the trick and turn me into a supermodel -ha. Poor beauty therapist, had to get close to my stinky breath.

B- BPC
L- Cauli soup with bacon lardons and cream
S - coffee with cream, mini pepperoni and knob of cheese
D - Fish temptations (v lc) and roasted broccoli

My mission next week is to reduce my almost daily little cheese nibbles and snack pepperonis. I am going to TRY not to weigh as scales mess with my head!

lurkingmurking · 07/02/2015 18:39

Really bloody proud of myself today. Did 2 classes this morning (circuits and spinning) then to lunch at SILs. She is Atkins mad so served up chicken, asparagus and boiled egg love her.
Then to a birthday party where I didn't touch the prosecco (my favourite) or pizza. It was bloody hard especially when serving the kids but I did it!!
Having Lebanese takeaway for dinner yum!!

Mrsstevejones · 07/02/2015 20:05

Wow lurking that is hardcore, spin class and circuits, i am seriously impressed. I am also very jealous of your lebanese takeaway, yummy.

tartiflette · 07/02/2015 20:34

Bloody hell lurking! Also, Lebanese takeaway sounds gorgeous.

I made the taco bake from the recipe thread (sorry can't remember whose it was) tonight - very nice. I've not had enough green veg the last couple of days, am craving spinach and salad. Shopping arriving shortly Smile

Off to my sister's for the day tomorrow - family party for my niece's 3rd birthday. Must avoid cake!! Am going to take a container full of double cream so I can indulge in coffees when resolve is low.

Today:
B - bacon and eggs
L - salad leaves, ham, cheddar and st Agur with vinaigrette
2 coffees with cream
D: taco bake, jalapeños, sour cream, tomatoes and cucumber
2 glasses of wine and counting

Romeyroo · 07/02/2015 20:43

Just catching up quickly, have been out ALL day and done in my efforts to cut the caffeine, I was just too tired. I think I had about 2L water, so need to get more down me. On the plus side, I did 2 hours of quite fast ice skating -DD has new skates and I was having to go some to keep up with her and chat at the same time (the rink is quiet when we go). I am going to try and go swimming this week as well.

Food wise, still relying too much on eggs because of lack of time.

B- scrambled eggs and spinach
L- we took our lunch for after skating, I had 3x hb eggs, cucumber and spinach leaves, cheese cubes
D- had to wait about 50mins for DS at the station, so ate some of my supermarket shop, Polish kabanos and MORE cheese, plus a square of dark chocolate. I still need to unpack the shopping, so can't see me having anything else now. Exhausted.

I bought some scales today, with my clothes on I weigh the same as I did on 4 January. Curious to see what I am tomorrow morning, then I will put the scales away for a week, otherwise I will be on them all the time.

WireCat · 07/02/2015 22:05

Thank you all for your kind words.

Will get some frozen berries & some crunchy peanut butter.

I've got to get through Mon-Weds night & period is due thurs/fri. I will do this. I've nearly lost 1/2 a stone & my tummy isn't bloated.

Today I've not had enough water. Again. Last few days have struggled with the water.

Breakfast was Greek yogurt with double cream & cinnamon.

Snack was a boiled egg.

Lunch was avocado salad.

Dinner was chicken wings with cauliflower rice.

Also had 2 mugs of cream coffee.

trashcanjunkie · 07/02/2015 23:23

It's so bloody cold, the water is really gruelling. I've treated myself to a lovely water container from go outdoors. It's a litre and it's got the measurements on the side, so I know when I've done a quarter or a half, plus it's got a massive screw on lid so it's easy to glug down, but man alive, I'm fucking freezing already. I've taken to leaving it right by the radiator to take the chill off.

LexLoofah · 07/02/2015 23:25

b - american bacon, mushrooms and a tomato fried in bacon fat, egg fried in butter, two cups of tea
l - chicken drumsticks, skin from mine and everyone elses Smile,

cucumber, radish, celery, leaves in mustard mayo

Making stock overnight in the slow cooker with the chicken bones and leftovers

Made ragu this afternoon with beef and pork mince, shallot, courgette, aubergine and tinned tomatoes and a batch of beef and pork meatballs with grated courgette so freezer starting to get stocked

DH is cooking dinner - lobster, tiger shrimp, garlic butter, mushrooms, broccoli

LexLoofah · 07/02/2015 23:38

Ooh DH is getting all fancy, mushrooms stuffed with cream cheese, spring onion and bacon, there goes my dairy fast

lurkingmurking · 08/02/2015 06:47

Wow Lex that dinner sounds delicious!!

I am determined to get my fitness back as well as my weight down. I did the London marathon last year after training literally front scratch but did my knee in around August and the weight has piled back on since then and my fitness levels have plummeted, getting back into it now though.

The Lebanese was awesome! I had a mixed grill kebab (lamb and chicken), an aubergine and cauli dish, little sausages and tabouleh. Tons left for today too.

lurkingmurking · 08/02/2015 06:57

*from scratch haha

Romeyroo · 08/02/2015 06:57

Morning all,

Hope you are getting through the weekend okay.

I just wanted to say that I weighed myself (without clothes and first thing this time) on my new scales and am 6lb down on my 4th January weigh-in. This means that since starting half way through the last bootcamp I have 2 stone. I have done boot camp pretty much all the way through and my only concession to BCL was nuts and seeds and BPC, which I cut out again for this boot camp.

So, first of all, a massive thank you to BIWI, Sayra, Miffy49, StuntNun and all the other knowledgeable ladies who informed and supported me in the early days and to all the posters who have kept this thread going, which is also motivating.

My goal for this BC was 10lb off 4th January weight, so that is 4lb to go. I think if I cut out dairy (all that cheese), I should be able to do it, but at the same time, even if I get stuck at this weight, I know I should accept that and be happy with all the other benefits and aim at STS till next boot camp.

I guess I am quite scared of moving to maintaining, that I will put the weight on again. I can develop a sugar and carb addiction quite quickly, as I learnt over the last couple of years.

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 08/02/2015 06:59

Yum lurking, that sounds gorgeous! Envy

Thought i'd had a ridiculous 10lb whoosh this morning but the scales were leaning on a book :( Grin

Breakfast - greek yog with raspberris, coffee with cream

almahart · 08/02/2015 07:23

Plugging way here, can't believe I've managed three weeks. I had a couple of glasses of prosecco on Friday night, which is quite enjoyed, but wasn't that fussed, which is amazing for me. I did dry January ten years ago and really struggled. I have always suspected that my craving for a glass of white wine is sugar related.

I am finding that I feel hungry quite quickly after meals at the moment, which makes me wondering f I am eating enough fat.

StuntNun · 08/02/2015 08:04

Romey when I moved to maintenance I added in 'safe' carbs and I found it pretty liberating after the strictness of Bootcamp. For starches you can add in potatoes, small portions of white rice and sweet potatoes. For fruits and veggies you can include the carbier ones such as apples, grapes, carrots etc. For meats you can relax on things like sausages. Some people add in a slice of wholemeal bread per day but I found that a bit too much for triggering carb cravings so I would recommend continuing to avoid all grains and sugar.

ChesterDrawers · 08/02/2015 08:42

Morning all,

Feeling ok, but still can't shake this bloody cold. Seems worse first thing though so I know I have to ride the storm and I'll be fine later. Also got the world's most chapped lips - ouch!

Yesterday was:
B: eggs in butter, mushrooms, fried proscuitto
L: out - salad with chicken, avocado and goats cheese. Picked out the croutons, gave bread to DH and swapped dressing for olive oil, but did have a cherry tomato and a bit of roasted red pepper, oh and a glass of sauv blanc
D: duck breast in red wine, shallot and cream sauce, asparagus, roast broccoli, half bottle of red wine

Today's plan:
B: BPC - not feeling the love for food at the minute
L: thinking frittata with proscuitto, mushrooms, leeks, courgette, and a bit of cheese
D: chicken, swede mash, roast brocolli, asparagus, maybe leeks in cheese sauce, rest of bottle of red

Too much wine again but otherwise a good weekend, I think. I'm at least 1lb down and hoping to keep that til official WI tomorrow.

Mrsstevejones · 08/02/2015 09:03

So DH has planned an amazing valentines eve - kids off to Grannys (bless her) and we are off out for a night of 1920s dancing -yay.

I wanted a night at a fancy hotel - but the cost!! and every place i wanted was booked, so DH came up with an alternative plan.

I need to wear my ridiculously tight dress ( virtually only going out thing i own) - last worn 9lbs heavier ago, so its looking better and its a peplum so very flattering on my massive tummy. I look pretty hot in it ( i think) as i have curves in all the right places (smug but lots of them!). So i need a week of uber bootcamp to sort me out.

Any tips? I dont do eggs but i am thinking no dairy, no caffeine (will decaf be ok for my BPC?), lots of water, green smoothies with coconut oil. Anything else i should be avoiding or any fab recipe ideas?? Lovely MNers i need your help!

I am fed up of looking like i have given up on trying to look nice, so need to pull it out of the bag - just for one evening! Praying for a massive whoosh and a pair of spanx!

WireCat · 08/02/2015 09:15

Today wi will drink 3l of water. So far I've had none. I've had a coffee though.... sigh

lurkingmurking · 08/02/2015 11:34

mrssteve that sounds fabulous! Spanx and red lipstick are my tricks and also a fab necklace or earrings

bettybigballs · 08/02/2015 11:58

Hello all, I haven't had chance to catch up with everything much this week so have had a lovely half an hour reading the thread. I've been KOKO'ing this week, i have had some wine... will see what the scales say on Weds. Food wise it's been really straight forward although i did have two pieces of rice sushi last night, this is the kind of carb creep i need to watch. Have a busy work week this week but luckily it's not too social so i won't have to explain why i'm not drinking / eating canapes / buffets etc.

MrsSteve - that sounds amazing, what a fabulous night! Perfume always make me feel great along with spanx and bright lippie! Your outfit sound wonderful.

wire I know exactly what you mean about the binging whist along / DH being away. I also go into a bit of a naughty self destruct mode. I wrote about this on the questions thread a couple of weeks ago and got some really good advice that helped me look at why i was doing it.

I had a real moment of love for this WOE earlier. DH made us an enormous cooked breakfast of sausage, bacon, egg, mushroom and a tomato. It felt like such an amazing treat, so filling and satisfying.

Making some more oopsie rolls this afternoon, find them really handy to have around.

Have a great sunday all!
