Week 3 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Where We Have a Decision to Make!

BIWI · 02/02/2015 07:40

Morning all.

Here's the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

So we've finished Bootcamp! Well done all Flowers or at least to all those who are still with us Grin

Now you have a decision to make. You can move on to Bootcamp Light, if you wish, which is more relaxed (to a degree). The rules are on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet - sorry, I don't have time to copy/paste this morning as I have to get off to work about 10 minutes ago.

But essentially it means that you can introduce nuts and berries - in moderation. You no longer have to have three meals a day. If you're not hungry, then it's fine to skip a meal - as long as you don't then dive into a pile of carbs when you get hungry! And you can have alcohol - again, in moderation.

If you're happy with the stricter Bootcamp then by all means stay on that, but please, please, please make sure that your carbs are coming from vegetables and salad. It's important that you get nutrition from these.

Or you can, if you like, do Bootcamp at the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

However

There is also something else you need to prepare for, and that is the dreaded weeks 3 and 4 slowdown!

It's something that lots of people experience. The weight loss suddenly stops, for no apparent reason. If this happens, don't worry and don't panic that you're doing anything wrong (assuming that you're not, of course Wink), just keep on keeping on, and it will get going again - albeit at a slower rate.

From here on, you should be expecting to see a loss of 1-2lbs a week.

Good luck everyone!

Hello all, chaotic day so although I've been ok food wise, I haven't managed to drink any water. Managed some tea and coffee but just settling down to my first litre.

Eating far too much cheese at the moment so going to try to cut it out for a week. Avocado is the way forward.

Amaxapax · 06/02/2015 21:12

I've made oopsie rolls. I've used them to make open-faced sandwiches and burgers, but haven't tried two for a proper bun replacement. They were an acceptable substitute. I couldn't really taste them, but the texture was okay.

Thumbwitch · 06/02/2015 21:24

Went to bed with DS2 last night and although I woke up again at 1:30am, I didn't get up, just took the tablet to bed with me and played games til I fell asleep.

Yesterday:
B - half a sausage
L - tin of mackerel with lettuce, grated cucumber, avocado, mini mozzarellas and grated pecorino salad. Not quite the nicest combination, but I needed more protein than just the cheese, and couldn't face eggs again. And it was fine.
D - duck stir fry with sliced beans and carrots (sorry). I'd managed to buy fresh duck breasts (a rarity where I live) but they weren't quite big enough for us all, although as it turned out, DS1 was out doing Little Athletics and staying over at grandma's so it worked out ok. I was going to have swede chipsticks as well, cooked in the duck fat while I was rendering that off, but I put them under the grill to crisp up and ended up burning them :(

Today is going to be a GOOD day, I can feel it. :) I've already had a large glass of water.

FurFoxAke · 06/02/2015 21:34

Hello all.
Still not well, so still not eating much but loads of water. Hopefully I'll have had no long lasting effects from that cough syrup Grin
Have fun this weekend everyone

ijustwanttobeme · 06/02/2015 23:47

today was another test of my willpower, as went out to dinner to a ribs, chicken, burgery type place.

Began my day with just a coffee, lunch was on the go: M&S chicken breast fillets tikka style, and a garden salad.

Dinner was vegetable antipasti, chicken wings, ribs and coleslaw with chipotle sauce and chorizo.

Resisted dessert which was hard for me, as everyone I was with had one.

So, can I ask- what do low careers eat dessert wise? Is there anything?bam I missing the point?

Decided I'm going to resist weighing in on Monday as BIWI said yesterday and try really hard at staying on the boot camp for an extra few weeks.

ijustwanttobeme · 06/02/2015 23:49

carbers not careers...

am not bam...

lurkingmurking · 07/02/2015 07:22

Morning all!! Really busy day today, gym this morning, lunch at SIL and then a kids birthday where there will be prosecco and pizza - I will resist!!!

Lunch should be fine, my SIL is a big Atkins fan so will do meat and lovely ottolenghi sides - delish!

ChesterDrawers · 07/02/2015 07:37

ijust, well done for resisting dessert. If I want one I sometimes have a cheese plate and ignore the crackers and grapes, or a coffee with cream and sometimes brandy or whisky is nice. You really do lose your sweet tooth though, in a few weeks dessert won't seem half as appealing as it does now.

DH has just told me my face looked a little slimmer the other night when we face timed (he works away in the week). I am grinning from ear to ear Grin [easily pleased emoticon]

Thumbwitch · 07/02/2015 08:39

If you're doing BC light, you can have fruit, so some fruit cut up in either yoghurt or double cream works as a dessert for me. Not too much fruit, just enough to make it interesting :)

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 07/02/2015 08:44

B - coffee with cream, buttery scrambled egg, streaky bacon

Fatstacks · 07/02/2015 08:45

Good Morning Campers Smile

I'm hoping you're right Chester I was having dreams about the stupid Ben and Jerry's greek god ice cream last night Angry
Your DH sounds nice, just the right thing to say.

My DP is away at his sexy parties he's an army officer and we diligently refuse to believe what he does at work instead we believe the Carry on film/ Benny Hill/ Stewie from family guy stereo type because it really winds him up his helpful phone chat was to tell me that the dinner was good but deserts were excellent so he had three Envy and he was looking forward to pastries for breakfast his fave at Sandhurst.

Needless to say I'm not speaking to him Grin

I wasn't hungry for dinner last night so I skipped but psych stepped in telling me every ten seconds I'm prob hungry so I ended up snacking on bratwurst and cheese and eating too much.
Going to make certain to eat three meals today.

B. Eggs.
L. Salad.
D. Cauliflower puree and smoked fish.

Have a good un Smile

lurkingmurking · 07/02/2015 08:46

I made coconut porridge for breakfast - it was delicious and I only had a normal portion but now I feel really sick! I think I shocked my body Grin

RandomHouseRules · 07/02/2015 10:37

Hello all. Am dashing about a lot this weekend and relying on some packed food and things we can grab en route - always risky. Today hopefully looks like this:
B: had a big portion of spinach scrambled egg and bacon as may not manage lunch
L: have packed some cheese, carrots (I know!) and cucumber bits
D: not sure as may be out somewhere. Thinking sausages and salad or some such.

Weighed this morning and was a bit up but had wine yesterday. Will be a good incentive not to do the same today!

trashcanjunkie · 07/02/2015 11:21

Morning (ish) everybody! I'm still in bed, with out shame - been a full on week. Dp has taken ds 2 and 3 out to play games and buy comics at geek retreat (a cafe where you play board games like settlers of catan and legend of drizzt Confused)

I have been brought breakfast in bed of scrambled eggs and lidls bratwurst sausages. They look disgusting - white chipolata vac packed things, but they're 0.1g carbs, and are delicious fried - just normal coloured then too.

My leg/ankle is fucking killing me. I have started physio on it yesterday, and they gave me a few exercises to do at home, which of course outrage the underused muscles Grin plus I have taken on another dog at work, so am doing more walking than before. Great moneywise, but oh, my fitness.....

trashcanjunkie · 07/02/2015 11:22

Oh, and for the record, I fart like a bastard if I eat carbs, but never if I don't....

Notso · 07/02/2015 11:25

Hello everybody, haven't posted for a couple of days and need to catch up with everyone.
Yesterday was really hard food wise, had nothing for breakfast as wasn't hungry and planned swede and bacon mash for lunch but had a surprise visit from DSIS who wanted to take me out for lunch. The cafe we went to had nothing LC so I just had coffee with cream and some olives.
Then DH phoned and offered to drive to Ikea after work. I was going to have lamb shank but by the time we shopped and stopped to eat there was no lamb. I was starving by this time but wasn't going to have anything. DH said I must and got me salmon fillet that was served in a probably carby sauce with two veg and potato cakes and peas. I gave DH the potato cakes but ate half of the peas. Also had coffee with milk as the water tasted rank.
Out tonight dinner, is at Frankie and Benny's where everything seems to be 'smothered in our BBQ sauce' Hmm plus probably will be drinking. Fearing the scales on Monday.
I have done the shred 5 days this week though.

Thumbwitch · 07/02/2015 11:35

Well today didn't go quite as well as I'd hoped, although I was 2lb down on the scales, so it started well

B - 3 Babybels
L - Boursin and avocado mashed together and spread on celery sticks
D - Steak (massive!) with beans and carrots (DH cooked); and cherries with double cream just now, so not really dessert, more late evening snack.
But I also had wine, just a half glass but still. Lots of bad temper in the house today - some mine, some DH - so I felt the need. :(

BlueberryHope · 07/02/2015 11:47

Just had a quick catch-up - mood does seem generally cheerier than the start of the week - KOKO everyone! I felt too full for Mon/Tues/Wed - was on the plan but not drinking enough water. Now back to a glass every hour at least, feel much better. Am strictly sticking to Monday weigh-in as I can lose/gain v quickly and a gain mid-week would entirely derange and derail me, but jeans feel bigger and tummy looks much flatter. Didn't have dinner Thu/Fri - finding it tricky as eat my meals at kids' times, being a SAHM/childminder - so brekkie at 7, lunch at noon (just a coffee with cream as snack), then by 5.30 as kids have their tea, I am starving! A substantial LC snack is needed but then am not hungry for dinner. Anyone else like this? I guess I could just have a piece of cheese and glass of wine with DH later so he doesn't feel left out...
Really hope those who feel ill/grumpy/have tricky social functions to attend get through the weekend with minimal damage. Nourish yourselves with delicious LC good! We ARE worth it! Etc!

CharlieSierra · 07/02/2015 12:57

I had an oopsie roll bacon sandwich for late breakfast - not bad but I think the rolls were a bit underdone inside maybe - they looked done on the outside but my oven runs hot so will try again on a lower temp and cook a bit longer.

cymrukernow · 07/02/2015 13:21

Thumbwitch I think you're allowed some wine as long as its dry white/red. Hope so as I had two white wine spritzer last night! In my previous life, drinking wine would have set off a carb frenzy, but was able to get through the evening without snacks ??

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 07/02/2015 13:25

Lunch - lemon and herb chicken, half avocado, olives, mayo. Green tea with mint

Thumbwitch · 07/02/2015 13:27

Definitely red - thanks cymru! :)

DrDiva · 07/02/2015 14:22
WireCat · 07/02/2015 16:08

I'm sticking to plan.

1/2 lb off so far this week. That's fine as it's the 3rd week. And I'm looking at my overall weight loss which of as last Mknday was 6lbs. And I already look so much better, and feel so much better.

Anyway, towards the end of the week my period is due. I'm already getting the cramps. And, the bloody cravings. Currently sat here with a creamy coffee.

This is combined with my worst binge eating thing, dh is away from Mon-Thurs. Always, ALWAYS binge when he's away, once the youngest is in bed. Tbh, evenings are my worst if I'm by myself. Combined sigh my period being due, I am dreading this week.

I don't have lots of crap around, but I do have stuff in for the kids.

I need a good kicking talking too!

Thanks

ChesterDrawers · 07/02/2015 16:35

Wire, I feel your pain. DH works away a lot too and I always used to binge then too. I'd go to the shop especially to buy stuff before getting DS into bed and stuffing myself silly.

Only advice i can give you is stock up on LC nibbles, pork scratchings, cheese, clotted cream, Greek yogurt, kale chips, anything that you can eat if needs be without falling off the wagon. I've only had a couple of binges since I started on BC in September, and it does get easier. DH was away this week, AF arrived yesterday and I've survived the week intact and am looking at a loss at the minute.

If all else fails, come on here and chat, there's usually someone around who can tell you why it's better to stay on track than not.

Best of luck.
