5 Week Low Carb Bootcamp, with added Ubercamp

Morning all!

Just starting the day with a black coffee instead of my usual white one. Not quite sure if I like it or not ...

Anyway, welcome, everyone to this shorter-and-stricter-than-usual Bootcamp Grin

For those of you who are new to low carbing, I strongly suggest that you don't do Ubercamp. It's very strict and restrictive and will be a very, very hard introduction to low carbing. Far better that you get to grips with what it's all about before you also aim to cut out dairy.

For those of you that have low carbed before, you have the option this time around. You can either Bootcamp, which will last for three weeks this time, followed by two weeks of Bootcamp Light, or you can Ubercamp for the first week.

Ubercamp means no dairy (apart from butter). So the rules are the same as for Bootcamp, with this one exception.

Bootcamp Rules

On our Spreadsheet of Fabulousness you will find the rules of Bootcamp - along with a whole load of other really important information. Have a good look around it, by clicking on the tabs at the bottom.

Sayra will be updating the spreadsheet this morning, so she will get all your names on it, and when she does, you can then enter your starting weight. As the spreadsheet is shared, you may not wish to confess all

MNHQ are - hopefully! - also setting up another Weight Tracker for us.

As the spreadsheet is shared, you may not wish to confess all there, in which case use the Weight Tracker, as that is private.

So this is the plan this time around:

Week 1 - Ubercamp (for those who are up for the extra challenge
Weeks 2-3 - Bootcamp
Weeks 4-5 - Bootcamp Light

I should warn you that I have taken my big stick out of the cupboard and I am ready and willing to use it ...

I made my own mayo today and it was pretty horrid - all acrid and sharp. Is it supposed to be yellow? I couldn't find the recipe on here so I used one egg, 250 ml light and mild olive oil, the juice of half a lemon, salt and white pepper.

Earlybird · 22/07/2014 16:48

Did alright yesterday with food (I think), but as I suspected, found it difficult to drink so much water. Working on it again today.

As a novice, doing regular bootcamp, not uber, so may I ask yes or no to the following:
full fat greek yoghurt
sweetcorn with butter
full fat cottage cheese

Thank you!

miffy49 · 22/07/2014 16:48

I tried making it with lemon Stunt cos I've been doing Harcombe P1 and mine was yukky! I've always used white wine vinegar in the past or even a bit of rice vinegar and its been fine. The lemon juice is much nicer added later rather than in the actual making of it. I often do a lemon and black pepper mayo which is lovely with tuna or salmon so I thought it would be nice but its not. Try it using vinegar. Oh and add a blob of mustard.

miffy49 · 22/07/2014 16:52

Earlybird its yes to Greek yog and to butter but no to sweetcorn. I'm not too sure about FF cottage cheese. Whats the carb count on it? I think its OK if its under 4gr but it might be one for BCLite.

HolgerDanske · 22/07/2014 16:53

I would go wherever you like, trinity, and just pick the dishes that are easiest to leave the carbs off altogether or just put them to one side.

Harvester would be fine if you can resist the chips...

LingDiLong · 22/07/2014 16:54

After a really good start yesterday I'm really struggling today. Went to the beach and took an avocado and green salad with smoked salmon but forgot to pack ice blocks. It was scorching so I ended up eating it at 11am because I was worried about it going off. Result now is I'm starving and have already had my dinner of homemade burger and coleslaw so I'm going to be starving again later. Could I have some scrambled eggs and smoked salmon for supper if need be? I already had some for breakfast today.

HolgerDanske · 22/07/2014 16:54

Oh and congratulations to him, and to you!

I love steak so I would probably go for steak and mushrooms, maybe with a grilled tomato on the side. Or a salad.

Yum I'm hungry now.

HolgerDanske · 22/07/2014 16:55

Long you can eat as much as you nee as long as it's on the approved list. This is not a deprivation diet!

HolgerDanske · 22/07/2014 16:56

Grrr *need

HolgerDanske · 22/07/2014 16:57

I don't really remember but I know I only used to use a little bit of lemon. I would add it at the end as well.

Maybe we should set up a testing panel to make all the various mayo recipes and give them marks out of ten. Would save me a lot of effort trying them all out Wink

ImATotJeSuisUneTot · 22/07/2014 17:03

Sweet cravings are really kicking in.

I'd been eating LOADS of chocolate. Sharing size bars, two or three a day.

So I guess I'm paying for that now really. Hmm

wombat22 · 22/07/2014 17:15

stunt that's the recipe I use and it's a bit bland to tell the truth, not sharp or acrid, so I add 1 level tsp dijon mustard. It looks off white not yellow Confused Did you use a stick blender?

wombat22 · 22/07/2014 17:19

Does anyone know did MN set up a new weight tracker? When I click the above link I get something called Go daddy?

HolgerDanske · 22/07/2014 17:24

I think they're still working on the tracker. I get the same page.

TurnOverTheTv · 22/07/2014 17:36

An early dinner of hot smoked salmon, homemade coleslaw,
Kale an broccoli with chilli and garlic butter :-)

5 Week Low Carb Bootcamp, with added Ubercamp
LingDiLong · 22/07/2014 17:39

Thanks Holger, I'll try drinking more water and if I'm still hungry I'll have some eggs.

HolgerDanske · 22/07/2014 17:46

Honestly you're much better off just having some food if you're hungry Smile

There are no brownie points for eating as little as you can, especially in the first few weeks it's better to eat when your body tells you to.

But if you think it might be thirst then sure, a bit more water definitely won't hurt Smile

StuntNun · 22/07/2014 18:03

I used the big blender Wombat. I wasn't planning to make it at all but I had a no-Hellman's emergency.

The site I obtained the mayo recipe from repeatedly stated that it needed to be a stick blender. Surprised it made any difference really but I've made it several times and has been lovely each time. Oh well, better luck next time stunt Smile

Firsttimer7259 · 22/07/2014 19:12

For mayo I used 2 egg yolks plus 2 tsp mustard then added veg oil a glug at a time whipped w hand whisk. About 8 glugs and viola mayo - added some salt to make it less eggy. Took less than 10 mins - I'm adding different flavoring like lemon gherkins. Cook book says it will keep in fridge for up to 2 weeks. Hmmm

trinitybleu · 22/07/2014 20:18

Have had loads of chicken, ribs, egg, mushrooms, salad with blue cheese dressing. No chips. No pudding. I've changed! Grin

Only slight fly in ointment is DD got me a drink refill and not 100% sure it was diet. I know, should have been water anyway but we're celebrating Smile

BIWI · 22/07/2014 20:46

If you are hungry, then eat! This isn't a way of eating that's about deprivation.

As long as you're eating low carb food, then that's fine.

And also make sure you're eating plenty of fat and protein as this is what will satisfy and satiate you.

BIWI · 22/07/2014 20:46

Buffy cake?! And only on day 2? You really can't afford to do this. Honestly. If you can't resist, then don't do cake-making.

Don't think I've done too badly today, finding ubercamp ok.. (I think)

B - black farmer sausage left over from last night with mushrooms
L- egg mayo in baby gem lettuce, cucumber
D- tuna mayo salad with cucumber (had intended to do chicken but stupidly forgot to take it out the freezer, it's out now for tomorrow)
