Hello all - crazy busy weekend, and with limited choices at the lake, i did ok, not too bad. I am down 1lb on last week, although up 1lb from my mid-week whoosh - so 201lbs right now. Can somebody please put that in the spreadsheet for me?

Pisses - I am in awe of your fabulousness, well done! Keep it up.

I am focused on a 2lb loss this week at least, so I can end Bootcamp under 200lbs. That would be GREAT! I also am planning to continue beyond this week, so I am looking forward to the continuation thread and next bootcamp. I am working on my water intake - I lapsed on that over the weekend, and I know it helps and makes such a big difference.

Another business trip this week - uuurrggghh. Going to Arizona for 2 days, which will be fascinating - I have never been, but the weather is going to be HOOOOTTTTT!

Anyway - hope you all keep on keeping on! Will touch base later when I have more time!

Seri77 · 07/07/2014 16:19

Well done to all those who have lost.

In keeping with my poor bootcamp results, I've had a bad week, due to being on secondment at work and despite taking my carefully prepared giant salad to work every day. I've twice been dragged off to lunch meetings at other offices at minutes' notice so I've neither been able to eat beforehand or take it with me. I ate a cheese sandwich on Friday (shudders) because there was nothing else & I had client appointments straight after the meeting. Otherwise I've stuck to fruit/cheese/tomatoes/quiche innards and eaten my salad for dinner.

I'm bloated and struggling with hideous carb cravings now. I blame the sandwich.

I'll keep on but I'm not weighing this week as it will make me so sad to see a gain. Hoping there's going to be another bootcamp soon!

miffy49 · 07/07/2014 17:29

Well, now I really need to try and break this dratted stall as I've just been told I have an invitation to a wedding on the way! Shock No idea what I can try next!

BestIsWest · 07/07/2014 18:56

2lbs off, making it one stone this boot camp, plus half a stone I'd already lost. Only another 3 or 4 to go. I'd settle for being a size 16 again which would mean losing around another 2.5.

Well done everyone.

SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 07/07/2014 21:51

1lb down for me, making it 18lb in total for the last two bootcamps! Grin

I'm going to have a break from full on BC for various reasons - my head needs a rest from being strict, for one.

I went to stay at my parents this weekend and knocked myself out of ketosis with a salad containing peaches made by my lovely Dad who knows I've given up grains and starches. I went for a run the next day and it felt so much better than any of my runs whilst still in ketosis. I know most of you feel better doing exercise when keto-adapted but it doesn't seem to be holding for me and I really really want to get out running again! I've even tried these salt tablets in case it was an electrolyte problem, to no avail.

So, I'm essentially going to go paleo for a few weeks and see how it suits me. I'm not expecting to loose much weight though to be honest, and I'm sure I'll be back to plague BIWI at the next bootcamp!

I forgot to say something at the end of the last bootcamp, mainly because I wasn't thinking of it as "the end" at that point and I forgot Blush- thanks BIWI Thanks! I suspect this bootcamp has been a trying one (I haven't followed it before I joined in to know though), and I wanted to say how much your efforts are appreciated.

And thanks to everyone else for the ongoing support, especially Stunt for the ongoing science and Sayra for the spreadsheet.

CQ hope things get better for you soon. Well done on not falling into the wine vat!

lowcarbforthewin · 07/07/2014 22:27

The interesting thing about paleo is that it is still possible to lose masses of weight on it even though it is slightly higher carb sometimes. I hope it helps you, it's a great diet.

Well done on losses everyone.

JimmyCorkhill · 07/07/2014 23:30

I can dospend hours reading these paleo success stories.

doineedhelp · 08/07/2014 07:06

Oh ffs, 1lb on? So that is 2lb on in the last 2 weeks.!
I don't understand what I am doing wrong, I need this to work. I feel so much better on it and I feel slightly slimmer but if I'm not going to lose weight after putting all this effort in then I will just start to think fuck it and binge. I hate not getting any results for my efforts Sad

Any advice please?
B - coffee and cream, scrambled eggs, mushrooms fried in butter
? - tuna mayo salad
D- salmon steaks, cauliflower cheese
3l water

BIWI · 08/07/2014 07:41

Good luck Sarah! Paleo is a great way to eat so hopefully you'll maintain that weight loss at the very least.

doineedhelp

A few thoughts/questions:

Cut out the artificial sweeteners. Even if they're not every meal/every day, they won't be helping you.

It could be that you have a dairy issue - it's worth trying to knock that on the head for a few days to see if it makes any difference.

Try upping your fat - hopefully you're having an oily dressing on your salad, but if not, then add that (as well as mayo - and check the carbs in your mayo!)

I assume that your cauliflower cheese wasn't thickened with flour?

Are you eating enough? Obviously it's hard to tell from just reading your meals!

And are you drinking enough water? I don't know how how much you have to lose so can't tell you how much you should be drinking.

But above all - don't worry! 2lbs isn't that much, and you could easily find that those pounds drop off quickly. Remember this is a marathon not a sprint.

You're only 6 weeks in, so it's inevitable that there will be teething problems along the way whilst you and your body get used to this WOE.

CQ hope things get better soon Flowers

doineedhelp You are getting results, you feel better on this WOE and feel slimmer as well, if you gave it up and had a binge how would you feel? I know I'd feel rubbish and bloated and if I was going to put weight on anyway I'd rather feel good. The weight will come off if you keep at it, maybe measure instead of weighing for a few weeks?

And listen to BIWI

Good luck with paleo Sarah if you (any of us) are going to stick with the WOE for the rest of our lives it needs to be do-able so I think if changing to paleo helps you stick at it and enables you to run better then great. You still need to pop in from time to time to let us know how you are getting on, we will see you on the next BC Grin

spamm I've added your weight Smile Well done, I can't wait until I get closer to the 200 lbs mark...still a while to go but I feel I can get there.

I weighed today and was Shock to find that I've only put 1 lb on. Off for a few weeks of house/pet sitting so I will be getting lots of exercise done, 2 horses to ride each day. I've packed a suitcase with my essential kitchen appliances that I now can't live without Grin My yogurt maker, George Foreman grill, spiraliser and mini-whisk. I won't be able to weigh as I am not taking my scales. I want to see how things go when I am not monitoring daily weekly. I don't want to spend my life weighing, I want to learn to trust this WOE.

StoneTheFlamingCrows · 08/07/2014 08:53

A bit of a whoosh yesterday, 3.5lb down, but I had regained 1.5 last week due to a carb blow-out after my half marathon.

Been back on it with bells on this week though! I don't know if biwi will approve but I have been vaguely sticking to atkins principles. Because I am a veggie and my food options are a bit more limited, counting carbs and limiting my cheese and cream means I don't go overboard on the dairy and can include some veggie products without my carbs creeping up. I don't bother trying to eat as much protein as he suggests though

I am a naughty daily weigher and today I am down another 1lb from yesterday, which has put me in the "normal" BMI bracket! Grin

Still would like to continue and lose about another stone or so.

StoneTheFlamingCrows · 08/07/2014 08:56

I stalled for about 3-4 weeks but I have started losing again and now am down 12 lbs since the start of bootcamp so try not to lose heart. Smile

doineedhelp · 08/07/2014 09:04

thanks Biwi

to answer your question, i am 5ft 8 and 178lb, so i have about 21lb to lose.

Re artificial sweetner, could about 1.5 teaspoons in one pudding over the course of a week really have resulted in a gain? i will cut it out and see but its not as if i'm having lots of it...

I have thought about cutting out dairy but i'm worried how i will cope as i've cut out so much already i dont want to start feeling deprived as thats when things can go tits up. so no coffee with cream, no yogurt and cream for breakfast, no cheese to make things delicious - it just seems too hard Sad

I don't know how else to up my fat, i am having an oily dressing with every salad and cooking with butter or coconut oil. i can't eat mayo unless its mixed into something, it makes me gag!

Nope, no flour in cauliflower cheese

In terms of eating enough, i think so, when it comes to salad and veg i don't weigh it

I am drinking at least 3litres of water

i know its only 2lbs, but its on, i should be loosing surely if i am following the rules?

Its just so disheartening Sad i wont binge sayra but i worry if it carries on like this then i will be back to square one.

miffy49 · 08/07/2014 13:03

My trend line stays firmly flat! I've checked on Fat Secret and my cals are averaging 1225. Macros are: Carb 8%, Prot 20% and Fat 72%. I drink 3.5 to 4litres of water/redbush with just two cups of black coffee that I take to get the caffeine hit to boost my pain meds.

I've cut out sweeteners and I've cut right back on dairy. I only have cheese a couple of times a week and then its as a meal not a snack. I do have home made Greek yoghurt with a dollop of cream that has been whipped and mixed with about 50ml coconut cream to a 300ml carton of cream. I'm reluctant to give up whats left of dairy as my various health probs mean that theres a wide variety of things I can't eat and there does need to be some pleasure in eating! Nuts and chocolate are out anyway due to the fearsome oxalate content.

Right now I don't know what else to look at to set the scales dropping again.

BIWI · 08/07/2014 13:48

miffy - one possibility is the meds you're taking. They can, unfortunately, impede weight loss.

However, the other things I would say:

  • are you enjoying this WOE?
  • do you feel deprived?
  • if you started a low fat or a calorie counting diet would you enjoy your food as much?
  • are you really, really following the rules? Wink

But otherwise, and I'd extend the same advice to doineedhelp is to stop stressing about it! Weight does fluctuate naturally, and we all have times (especially it would seem on a low carb diet) where weight stays the same for weeks, and then suddenly you drop by 3lbs.

Stress and lack of sleep can also impede weight loss, so it's worth seeing if you can reduce stress/get more (and better quality) sleep.

miffy49 · 08/07/2014 14:43

Thanks Biwi. I had hoped that maybe, given time, I will see an improvement from dropping the statins but I still have codeine base analgesics and meds for my BP.

You're right, I really don't want to alter the way I eat now as its the only thing to have brought any relief from the cognitive probs that come with FMS. I could live with the pain but the loss of cognitive function and special awareness really brought me low! I went from a job in management to not being able to make sense of a written page! Now that I'm running on fat I find life much easier. I just wish it was my own fat I was running on!

Sleep and cortisol could be an issue I suppose and I cant do much more to address that either. Again, its par for the course with the FMS.

Ahh well, I shall continue to bootcamp for ever and ever. My trend line has been flat for over 12mths now so whats a bit longer!

JimmyCorkhill · 08/07/2014 14:52

doineedhelp it probably is the dairy.

If I eat dairy I find it completely stalls me. I also find I eat more as it's easy to grab a bowl of Greek yogurt or have a coffee with cream.

When I cut dairy out the weight comes off steadily. I agree, though, that it is hard to cut it out and it does initially limit your meal choices. I have decided to try to keep dairy (apart from butter) out of my diet BUT when I am feeling restricted/bored I add it back in. I accept that I won't lose weight and may even put it on but I get to really enjoy yogurt, cream and cheese. Then I seem to get a second wind and can go dairy free again for a while.

I'm on a dairy phase now and loving it. Next week I will cut it out again.

doineedhelp · 08/07/2014 15:06

thanks for the replies, guess i will bite the bullet and stop with the dairy Sad and see how i get on. after 20 odd years yoyoing on low fat diets i thought wow maybe this is the answer and i can finally lose weight eating nice things as i lost 7lb in 2 weeks LC'ing - I should have known it was too good to be true and that i actually have to stop eating one of my most favourite things in the world! cheese!!!!!

Supermum0203 · 08/07/2014 15:56

Hello my lovelies !!
Many congrats to all losers :)
I can't believe the 10 weeks are over... I'm going on holidays in exactly 13 days, and I'm still hoping to lose another 3kg by then, no matter what..:)
PISSES. How wonderful amount of weight have u lost... amazing :)

I hope BIWI decides to do another bootcamp or something like it... I'm going to be away from the 21st of July until 31st of August ( I'm going to my country :)) so I won't b able to check the internet as we do not have connection on the beach, but I hope when I'm back I will b able to join you all again..

doineedhelp · 08/07/2014 17:14

if I give up dairy can I have unsweetened almond milk in coffee?

IrianofWay · 08/07/2014 17:30

Ate a roast potato on Sunday at my mum's house and some gooseberry fool (not much though). A bit stupid but I just felt like it for some reason. Am beginning to wonder what is the best way to reintroduce a 'normal' diet'. I am losing weight mainly because I am not eating very much at all and that is NOT normal for me.

Lost another 2lbs though. Just 5 more to go before my original 'final' goal but am wondering now if I will just carry on and see how far I can get.

readyforno2 · 08/07/2014 18:17

I've had a pretty good day door wise..
B - sausages, mushrooms
L - small salad with cheese
D - chicken thigh stuffed with garlic Philly, butternut squash chips, lettuce and cucumber, mayo

Maybe not quite enough water yet but on it.

readyforno2 · 08/07/2014 18:18

Food wise.. Not door wise obviously Blush

CQ · 08/07/2014 18:31

Thanks for all your kind words. Things are slowly improving - DH not a big one for apologies but he is being kinder and has actually just come home from work on time Shock

I have been thinking about how far I've come in this last 10 weeks and I think this picture says it all really. My weight loss selfie!! These are size 16 M&S jeans that were tight on May 5th. I now have to keep hoiking them up and even with a belt the crotch is too low! I can get 2 hands in the waistband. Need to go and buy a smaller pair Grin

I'm really hoping it doesn't all go horribly wrong over the holidays - we have a packed schedule and lots of evenings centred largely around booze. But I have learned how easy it is to eat out and still make healthy choices, and my tolerance for booze is so shockingly low now that I will be the one with my hand over my glass when the refills come round - I used to be the first one holding out my glass. So instead of resigning myself to gaining weight over the summer, I am quietly optimistic that I can stay the same and still have the odd treat. Or even carry on losing.

Week 10 - Low Carb Bootcamp - The Last Week!
lowcarbforthewin · 08/07/2014 18:32

It is hard giving dairy up, but I am trying to give it up for 3-4 weeks, then have a week of eating it, just so I'm not too deprived. I try and say to myself that every day without dairy is a day closer to being able to eat it when I want, because I can maintain when I eat it. That helps.
Lots of fruit tea, stock and making main meals as delicious as possible is useful too.

Am back to being strict after eating dairy last week. It is hard, but I just want this darn weight off now. I have a bbq on 26th July so only have to get to then, and then will allow myself to eat what I want that day.
