I just wondered if there was anyone here who might like a space to share with other single parents?
Just day to day chat and support!

I am a single mum, I have two primary school aged children.vibe been in my own for 5 years!!
They live with me mainly but do see their dad.

I don't have any single parent friend in the real world, all friends are happily coupled up (of course!) so I'd just love to be able to chat the day to day stuff with people on my boat!

I absolutely love being a Mum! Parent of me also likes doing it on my own and not having to listen to his stupid opinions and judgements 😂 But heck it can be lonely can't it?!

My biggest struggle is mum guilt. It's everywhere. I feel guilty when I'm over whelmed, guilty when they're not home, guilty that I don't have a big house and they share a bedroom... just everything really 😂😂

Anyone out there fancy a chat ☺️

There are some awful comments about single parents on MN, ranging from clueless to spiteful. I'd hope people wouldn't come to this thread on a board specifically for us to behave like that, and would probably get short shrift if they did!

Bellagi · 16/01/2025 13:30

I made the mistake of posting that i was irritated at my DP for critiquing my parenting style ie i gave the phone to my kids to play a game. My gosh i got some horrendous replies when i was just having a moan, saying what a bad parent i was and . I felt on the edge then remembered this was a weird forum

starpatch · 16/01/2025 14:45

I feel like it's getting worse with women reading so they can dissect rather than be supportive.

Karmicdeva · 16/01/2025 18:34

I’m a single mum and definitely agree it can be isolating and hardworking on your own. I’ve even been trying to research house sharing with another single parent but it feels hard to connect with others with a similar outlook. I shared before I had my son and with the right people it great!

Also the app frolo is a great resource… it’s all single parents so no judgements from any trad families!! It just to be free but now is £4.99 a month for both the community and dating sides. It’s a great way to meet other lone parents in your area and they arrange meets up - with or without child!
Theres lots of us out there… we just need to reach out and find our community 💚

We are amazing as single parents with so much grit and determination - our children are lucky to have us 🤩 🔥💕

How could you @Bellagi ?

You let a child see... a screen?!?!^^ The horror.

I hope the child has recovered from this unimaginably traumatic experience. 🫠😁

@Meemeows I know! I should add my DP has no kids and has his opinions generally on how children are brought up. But he has no direct input with mine. But I wanted to laugh about not letting them touch my phone at all. I mean, there may be a few who can do this but surely all parents have given their phone over at least once. Anyway, it blew over but I hugely regret posting about it, I was torn to pieces

MeltingSky · 17/01/2025 07:32

Ah sod em Bellagi. Sometimes MN is just plain weird.

rosemole · 18/01/2025 11:12

Hello fellow single parents. Would love to chat to others in this situation. Struggling to get up to make a cup of tea this morning!

MeltingSky · 18/01/2025 12:20

Are you okay @rosemole ? What's everyone up to today? Kids are at their dads, I'm having my living room ceiling re-plastered nexr week as my ceiling has started to collapse 😔😔 so another expense right after bloody Xmas. MOT is due end of this month too. It never ends.

So today I'm gutting my living room and moving my furniture out. Kids dad will help me with the heavy furniture when he drops them off later. On the plus side I've managed to have a huge declutter which was long overdue.

rosemole · 18/01/2025 12:54

Hello @MeltingSky! Your username is evocative of your ceiling situation, is it intentional? 😂

I'm up, still in pjs, wash on, dry on, DS cleared out the shoe cupboard (hoorah!).

Today is not going to get much more productive.

rosemole · 18/01/2025 12:54

Good luck with your decluttering!

MeltingSky · 18/01/2025 15:57

Hahaha you know I never considered that.

OK I'm on the home straight. Got a few more bits and bobs to stick in my bedroom from downstairs. The perks of having a small house 😒. Then when ex gets here he can help me with the big items. Lord knows how it will all fit in my bedroom.

But I'm having a rest for an hour. Pies is the oven, laundry in the washing machine, pile of ironing sat next to me with my name on and my shopping delivery comjg later. Honestly, I just want endless naps. Why are there no naps in sight? 🤣

rosemole · 18/01/2025 16:55

Sounds like progress. Meanwhile I've done enough resting for the day...was really knocked out though.

I've promised the kids Indian take away if we can all agree on a film to watch later.

Good luck for the un-melting of your sky!

MeltingSky · 18/01/2025 17:24

Oooh Indian takeaway sounds delicious. Enjoy it.

rosemole · 21/01/2025 19:11

How is your new sky?

MeltingSky · 21/01/2025 19:16

Well the plaster board is up. My house is a dust storm. They should be coming back tomorrow to skim it. But they've not taken my light fitting down when they started to remove the old ceiling and have broken it. What a pair of numpties.

rosemole · 21/01/2025 19:22

I hope the numpties were extremely apologetic and sort it out for you. Just think how lovely it will be when it's sorted. Staring at my old fashioned textured ceiling now thinking how grotty it looks!

MeltingSky · 21/01/2025 19:26

They're going to knock some money off but I hope they clean the broken light up before they stick it back up. Going to have to source a new one.
Just can't wait to have my house back tbh.

rosemole · 21/01/2025 20:19

It'll be lovely. And then you'll be on to the next project.

Cece92 · 21/01/2025 20:27

Hi all can I join please? I'm a single mum to my DD11. Work full time. DD sees her dads 3 evenings a week, doesn't stay over any more that's her choice I'm assuming it's an age thing though. She loves going to her dads as she has a 6 month old baby brother to dote over. I do have a partner who I see 2/3 weekends of the month as he works away mon- Friday and has his own kids. I do like being a single parent but my god it's been hard recently. My DD has the tween attitude brewing and I'm expecting Mother Nature to start any moment now. I feel I just moan at her constantly for little things. X

rosemole · 21/01/2025 20:32

Hi Cece, join us!
I also have an 11yo. Hormones a-gogo.

MeltingSky · 21/01/2025 20:44

Haha I have an 11 yo soon to be 12. And yep those hormones! Trying to get mine to complete his homework is a job in itself.

Cece92 · 21/01/2025 21:20

lol thank god there's more of us out there. Don't get me wrong she's very well behaved everywhere and at school, polite and good manners but if she rolls her eyes one more time they might be at the back of her head 😂 obviously that's a joke.

MeltingSky · 21/01/2025 21:26

Oh the dreaded eye roll.

I also get "I know!" at everything I say.

"Your tea is ready"
"I know!"

"You need your kit for pe"
"I know!"

"Don't forget your (insert item bound to be forgotten about here)"
"I know!"

For someone who knows so much he sure is forgetful 😅

rosemole · 21/01/2025 21:39

🤣🤣🤣

My current "favourite" thing is:

Me: Why are you taking those biscuits out of the cupboard?
Her: I'm not! (While taking biscuits out of cupboard)

And anything else she answers "I'm not" to while actually doing said thing 😂
