I just wondered if there was anyone here who might like a space to share with other single parents?
Just day to day chat and support!

I am a single mum, I have two primary school aged children.vibe been in my own for 5 years!!
They live with me mainly but do see their dad.

I don't have any single parent friend in the real world, all friends are happily coupled up (of course!) so I'd just love to be able to chat the day to day stuff with people on my boat!

I absolutely love being a Mum! Parent of me also likes doing it on my own and not having to listen to his stupid opinions and judgements 😂 But heck it can be lonely can't it?!

My biggest struggle is mum guilt. It's everywhere. I feel guilty when I'm over whelmed, guilty when they're not home, guilty that I don't have a big house and they share a bedroom... just everything really 😂😂

Anyone out there fancy a chat ☺️

So I've just found out my ex has split for his girlfriend he was living with.
It was a serious relationship and I'm quite shocked it's ended!
I'm feeling abit anxious how this might impact the children? He's very mucb all or nothing and very flakey. One minute he's all over them then nothing.

What sort of behaviours do you think I should expect from him? Will he want to change everything now he's more available or will he be even more flakey?
Probably impossible to answer questions! But have any of you been here?

I've had no experience of this but I reckon if he's a flakey guy, he will be flakey again at some point. Might not be right away but if that's his nature it will eventually re-appear. Hope your kids are okay.

What is everyone up to today?

I've to go into town, pick up sons new glasses but the wind is crazy so might wait til it dies down.

Life is crazy atm. All xmas shopping done, gone some wrapping to finish off. House looks like a bombs hit it cos I never have time to keep it organised so that's my goal whilst I'm off work.

Car is broken, won't be fixed til early jan and not safe to drive. Thats another expense I could do without.

Youngest who needs to come pick up glasses with me has woken up full of a cold, so maybe new glasses won't happen today.

Meadowfinch · 22/12/2024 10:26

@MeltingSky my car is also poorly - a worn steering arm - so no major travelling before Jan 3rd. We'll have to stay home and cycle because I'm not risking a breakdown.

Today I'm wrapping presents, making mince pies and gingerbread Christmas trees, and trying my hand with an icing bag. I'll put the ham in to cook, and try to finish the washing given that it isn't actually raining.

MeltingSky · 22/12/2024 10:41

@Meadowfinch that's exactly what's up with mine coincidentally! Won't repaired til the 2nd.

Youngest is full of a cold, had to rearrange glasses fitting til Christmas eve. I really don't fancy going into town xmas eve in the middle of the day but so be it.

I've got a wash in the machine, a pile of ironing with my name on it and wrapping to do. Gonna tidy my living room as well.

Hoping to do some baking but I'll see what ingredients I've got in. It's windy and rainy here. Don't want to go out on foot if I don't have to.

Meemeows · 22/12/2024 11:22

Desperately trying to sort out the house. Still not started wrapping as one child is having terrible dreams so keeps needing to sleep in my bed for reassurance so I've no time to do it without them around. 😬 We're going to the panto this afternoon.

Meadowfinch · 22/12/2024 14:57

@Meemeows Have a good time. We aren't going this year.

starpatch · 23/12/2024 08:01

Have also not been driving as was having a bit of a mental health wobble feeling better now though. Doing big bus trip today to entertain DS. A trip down the coast that's about 40 minutes by car, DS is excited to do it because all the bus numbers have changed means it will be two buses each way and will try and do all the new numbers (suspected ASD).

Am working two days this week and one day next so that gives me a break from DS and my mum will have him.

It was very funny. Good, other than getting soaked with water pistols!

Unpacked shopping order and got meat from the butchers. My kind friend has offered to have my children over for a couple of hours now so on with the wrapping marathon!

MrsSethGecko · 23/12/2024 16:25

Well we got here alright, weather is abysmal but some of us did the food shop this morning. Child is watching Peter Rabbit.
It's nice having some adults to talk to!

Meadowfinch · 23/12/2024 19:12

On with the wrapping. nearly there.

I've cooked the ham, made the mince pies, cleaned the kitchen and taken the duck out of the freezer. DS is happy playing computer games. I've still got the bathroom to clean but mostly it's under control. 😊

starpatch · 23/12/2024 20:46

Well done those managing wrapping etc. Did the mega bus trip with my son 4 different bus numbers so hopefully that's got it out of his system. I offered him fish and chips not realising how much it would cost- but at least he enjoyed it. He has been a bit ebullient since we got back. Excited about christmas I suppose.

MeltingSky · 24/12/2024 09:51

@starpatch my son is also obsessive about buses (and trains, cars, planes, trucks, ships - any vehicles) so I can understand when you talk about your child. Hope he enjoyed himself.

I finally got the last of my wrapping done last night. Off to town today for youngest's glasses so we'll be on the bus (eldest will love this).

I feel like a fake adult. Everyone on here sounds like they've been busy with food prep. I'm off to my parents for Christmas dinner tomorrow. I'll help my dad with the cooking but I've had no real "prep" in my house so I feel like a fraudster.

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas day tomorrow.

evrey · 31/12/2024 11:55

Hi can i join please? Im a single parent to ds9 and dd10. They dont see their dad at all. No family around , No support.
I dont know any other single mums, its a lonely life no adult conversation unless you count the 2 mins at the end of school from the teacher.

SoMentallyDrained · 31/12/2024 12:32

@meemeows are you in the NW by any chance? Just the comment about the water pistols, I had a similar panto experience 😁

Anybody got any plans tonight? I'd happily go to bed normal time but the kids will wants to stay up

Meadowfinch · 31/12/2024 18:17

I'm staying in tonight with ds who has just arrived home from his dad's.

We'll have home made soup, pasta carbonara, and ds will clear the remaining mince pies. We'll watch the fireworks and then I'll go to bed so I can parkrun in the morning.

No, South East! Maybe it's common practice? 🤣 Not sure because before last year I'd not been to a panto since I was a child.

No plans here, except continuing my clearout. I just cannot stand the clutter, it drives me insane. The more I can throw in the bin before midnight the better the start to the New Year will be. 😆

I was the same, we've never been a 'panto' family, so it must be pretty common to have water squirted in your face 😁

Happy new year to you all. I know if you're anything like me, you might not hear it from anybody else (all I got at midnight was a payment notification from my bank 🙄)

Wishing you all the best for 2025

starpatch · 01/01/2025 08:45

Happy new year all! My friend is staying and stayed up with DS to see in the new year so I didn't have to. So am the only one up and contemplating a very windy walk.

Meemeows · 01/01/2025 14:43

Happy New Year! 🎉

Let's hope it is a happy and relatively stress-free one! 😊

MeltingSky · 02/01/2025 19:54

Happy new year everyone!

I've had a big clear out before NYE, got a ton of stuff to take to the charity shop.

Car has been repaired today so that's one big expense out of the way now.

Went to my cousins on NYE, kids were at their dads and I ended up unintentionally blind drunk. My voice is still gone from all the karaoke we did.

Me and the kids are having an early night tonight, it's back to the grind on Monday. Hope the new year is positive for everyone.

Bellagi · 15/01/2025 06:38
