We can only do the best we can. No point in going on housework threads if you're a working LP who never has a break from the kids. Or if you're a SAHM LP with small kids who can't get to the gym.

So, a thread for us to start the New Year with good intentions and to juggle it around everything else we have to do Smile.

  • I banned Minecraft today and tomorrow after some shocking behaviour (kicking each other in the supermarket) the dc's had a burst of enthusiasm, dysoning and tidying up to get back in my good books.
  • I have managed to get out for a few runs over Xmas. We stayed with my mum for a couple of days so I went out then.

Here's to a positive start to 2015.

fatty that drives me nuts when I do that. I often just go to sleep with the clean laundry left on the bed Blush . I don't wriggle much in the night.

Hah fatty & meglet I'm exactly the same. Leave the pile for ages despite getting pissed off every time I look at it!!

fattymcfatfat · 08/04/2015 23:26

I now haven't got a floor Grin Blush

BlackeyedSusan · 09/04/2015 12:35

I am off to my mothers. more washing up, cooking and shopping there. grr.

fattymcfatfat · 10/04/2015 00:06

my mum came to mine and cleaned up a bit for me. she is coming back on Monday to do the rest of it (pulling out appliances scrubbing bathroom etc) I love her Grin

BlackeyedSusan · 11/04/2015 14:02

thatis lovely. my mum is rather past helping now.

fattymcfatfat · 11/04/2015 14:08

I was sorting the clothes from my bedroom floor when I discovered a hideous spider Sad

BlackeyedSusan · 11/04/2015 22:38

eek!

BlackeyedSusan · 12/04/2015 12:16

I am off on holiday so will not be around for a few days, but will read updates when I get back.

I am nearly packed. it is all those annoying difficult to find items to go yet. I need to find the childrens slippers. they are in a carrier bag that they came home in last year. the carrier bag is, i think In the mass of carrier bags that have congregated around the edge of my room.

I am feeling the difference between ex, who only has to pack for himself, and me, who has to pack for three people and think about feeding four. twonk said he assumed that we would eat together, no other thought for food than that. oh, other than we would buy food when we get there.. on a sunday, when the supermarket a good ten miles away from the place we are staying, will be closed as it is a flippin' sunday. he was a bit uspet at the thought of us doing stuff without him if we arrived first, which rankled as he is doing stuff this morning.

sil is back from abroad. ex is spending more time with her and doing stuff for her now, rather than visiting the children. it was always the case. but it is interesting now to see, now that i am not bothered by this. less time for us to argue! Grin

fattymcfatfat · 12/04/2015 12:23

he sounds lovely Hmm

hope you have a good holiday Grin

meglet · 14/04/2015 22:14

Today I managed to multi-task and see name labels on next year's uniform while sunbathing in the garden Smile . Obviously this involved bellowing at the dc's to not spray me with water or step on the needle, but we got there in the end.

Hope you're having a nice hols blackeyed.

OP posts:
BlackeyedSusan · 18/04/2015 16:58

nice multi tasking.

well the holiday was good enough. some really good bits and some not so good bits.

the great living room tidy has begun. the bit that looks like something out of how clean is your house, no longer looks like that in places at least. furniture is still scattered but some of it is being put back. bits and bobs are being pulled out from under the tablke and put back in their home. it is very annoying though. slow progress. but progress. the next task will be to keep on top of what has been done.

fattymcfatfat · 18/04/2015 17:04

my mum has been cleaning for me as she knows how difficult I am finding things. I'm very lucky to have her. Smile glad you had a good time Susan
and meglet that is awesome multitasking Grin

BlackeyedSusan · 18/04/2015 19:37

good old mum! (oops too many ORT books!)

well, I have finished cleaning under the table in the living room pulling out all the junk, washing that ds has scattered from the washing pile, papers that have fallen off the back of the table and bits of lego and buttons that got dropped from the button box half a centuary ago. thankfully I did not find the maker of the spiders web...

fattymcfatfat · 18/04/2015 21:42

I would only have needed to find the spider web to crap myself and stop Blush so well done to you Grin

BlackeyedSusan · 18/04/2015 22:33

if there had been a spider under there while I was entwined around table legs and had my head half under the chair I would have knocked myself out trying to escape and half the world would have wondered what the cause of the blood curdling scream was. (the one that would have ended abruptly when I knocked myself out.)

fattymcfatfat · 18/04/2015 22:41

I am so glad I have DS Grin he catches them for me and flushes them down the loo

BlackeyedSusan · 19/04/2015 00:00

I used to get the children, usually boys, in school to catch the spiders and put them outside. usually did the job of dispatching them anyway as six year olds can be a bit heavy handed. that way I kept the be kind to all creatures teacher stance while also getting to not have to deal with a returning pissed off spider. Grin

BlackeyedSusan · 19/04/2015 13:08

I should be tidying the living room. redoing the bit we did nefore the holiday to keep on top of it. then the rather delayed easter egg hunt.

I probably ought to do something about homework.

fattymcfatfat · 19/04/2015 13:59

oh yeah best get DSs homework done at some point

BlackeyedSusan · 19/04/2015 21:31

shattered. been cleaning the living room again today. it would now pass the social services test! it is what one would call cluttered but reasonably tidy. unless you look at the top of the table.. ooops. it is good enough at the moment. it is no longer the worst room so is now relagated down the list. I must try to keep it at this standard though.

fattymcfatfat · 19/04/2015 23:18

that's good. my mum put all my clutter in bags that are now cluttering up my bedroom.

meglet · 20/04/2015 12:52

just been pondering whether I could minimise kitchen mess by using ice cream tub lids as plates for snacks Hmm . I just did for biscuits

OP posts:
BlackeyedSusan · 20/04/2015 13:46

grr.

bet they are low down where you can not manage to reach too.

well. i have shopped, but forgot the bread. oops. put the frozewn stuff away but the rest is still n the hall. started the washing up, started the washing from holiday but have lost some of the clothes so I think some are still in the car. I need to pop round the living room and maintain all that I achieved yesterday. wiped the cooker, and bits of the fridge and done quite a bit of washing up.

there are socks inching their way across the bars in the window like grey caterpillars.

BlackeyedSusan · 20/04/2015 13:50

anything that you would recycle anyway.

sometimes i reheat frozen batch cooking and serve it in the box! ex uses far too many pots for my liking. a new spoon everytime he makes coffee. a plate for everything. (if you have had sandwiches or toast, then the fruit and salad etc can go onto the same plate. ) I have trained him to use the same mug for coffee though.
