Time for a new thread!!

Mellow, congratulations!

Dusty, ds2 would look so cool with a Beatles haircut

Pc, sorry you've all been ill, glad you're on the mend. Can't believe ds will be 2

Vbus, well done on getting dh into the spare room, dh refuses to move from our bed when he's ill!! Hope he's all better for your holiday, where are you going?

We're also ready for a holiday, am waiting for The Sun cheapie deals to start up again!

sfxmum · 12/05/2010 11:25

we were looking at the headlines of newspapers thins morning dd could read the Mail without help but all she could read from the Guardian was Cameron and Clegg

4yr ols can read The Mail headlines

can anyone tell me why we need Trident? or any other nuclear weapons?

dustythedolphin · 12/05/2010 12:00

lol Tilly! Do you think he shaves yet? When Blair got elected as PM I thought "Oh great, as PM in 1997 who has the same taste in music as me", now 13 yrs later I just feel like their Mum or something

SFX I always tell DD to tell the teacher immediately if anyone hurts her or says very mean things. You should deffo tell the teacher I think, so they can keep an eye on it.

I spoke with DS2's teacher a few years ago (he was 4) about a boy who DS2 said hit him. It turned out that this boy had hit several children and was being monitored by the class teacher and playtime monitors, they had a whole strategy in place so were grateful that I'd told them

Just got an e-mail tellling me this, tho' no doubt its all in press anyway:

"The agreement commits the next government to a significantly accelerated reduction in the budget deficit, to cut £6 billion of government waste this financial year and to stop the jobs tax. The agreement also allows us to carry out key elements of the reform agenda we outlined in our manifesto - an agenda vital to turning our country round - including welfare and school reform. Moreover, we have protected our nuclear deterrent. And there will be no amnesty for illegal immigrants, nor the handover of any additional powers to the EU.

Of course, the agreement also reflects the key priorities and objectives of the Liberal Democrats. This includes fairer funding in education, a fairer tax system and political reform - including a referendum on changing the voting system to the alternative vote.

But the past few days have not just been about compromise. What was clear as talks progressed is the common ground between the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats. And that is displayed in this agreement, with our commitment to building a green economy, decentralising power and protecting civil liberties - including scrapping ID cards"

dustythedolphin · 12/05/2010 12:01

What does "scrapping ID cards mean"? We don't have ID cards anyway

sfxmum · 12/05/2010 12:46

dusty thanks for advice, when I asked dd if she had told the teacher, she told me 'no because it is not nice to tell' I never had occasion to tell her that so not sure where it comes from, but I know this child pushes her around a fair bit and is rather aggressive I have been trying to help dd deal with it but it is time to talk to the teacher

regarding policy I heard Hague saying 'we have our manifesto promises and the best of the Lib dems' he is so good at it I shall have to remember I don't like his policies but dam he is good

vbus · 12/05/2010 13:58

Hello

News of the unfolding new Govt is v. exciting, and yes let's hope they try to bring out the best in both parties. I suspect the real sticky moments are yet to come and they might then try to revert back to old battle lines...

Sfx - it's strange where kids get their ideas from especially about telling on others. Someone threw sand in DS1 eye the other wk but he refused to tell the teacher about it or who it was Hope teacher can help DD.
BTW just started WT and it's pretty interesting & gripping so far, you can borrow afterwards if you like
DS1 also loves reading the paper especially graphs, he read part of my old Management Accounting book the other wk He keeps going on about capital budgeting now

Dusty - Hello, lol at Zac lust! Pity you will be over the one wk we are on our hols so I won't see you I think it should've read 'scrapping id card scheme'

Kew - don't blame you preferring sleep to reading

Steppy - Hello, lol at DD's joke. I just do the minimum housework and just remind myself that when I was working I hated doing admin and I try to view it the same way i.e. a necessary evil!

Slng - why do people think you're pg?

PCW - nice to catch up with you yesterday, goo dto see DS full of beans again

UptoapointLordCopper · 12/05/2010 20:08

vbus - DS1 for chancellor then! Bet he'd be better than the oik. Don't know why they think I"m pregnant - combination of fat tummy and bad clothes on my part and utter rudeness on their part, I guess.

sfx - hope teacher can help with DD. Don't think you kicking offending child is allowed though. Restrain yourself.

Kewcumber · 13/05/2010 00:06

I think I might actually be in lobe with James Taylor Do you think there is any hope for teh relationship?

Kewcumber · 13/05/2010 01:11

Love obviously

Kewcumber · 13/05/2010 01:12

Lordy Lordy and old friedn of mine has been elected as an MP Haven't spokem to her in 10 years probably but have emailed her to congraulate her anyway.

So there is at least one female Tory MP!

sfxmum · 13/05/2010 08:21

hello all

kewC JT used to be a pretty lost boy that all contemporary female singers wanted to save bless them, that the one you mean? in with a chance I think

there is also 2 female Tory cabinet ministers fear not equality is assured

spoke to teacher some reassurance but child likely to carry on being a problem seem to be dealing with it already as it is not just dd, not surprising really but for many reasons I doubt it will be resolved effectively

tillyfernackerpants · 13/05/2010 08:22

Kew, it's not MM is it?

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 13/05/2010 09:33

no (who is MM?) new Thanet South MP.

UptoapointLordCopper · 13/05/2010 09:45

Loads to do today but already bored. I have come to the conclusion that it's because I didn't go to Eton.

tillyfernackerpants · 13/05/2010 14:01

Mary McLeod - now Hounslow MP

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 13/05/2010 20:00

Went swimming. Then had fish and chips. Kids knocked out and asleep in 15 mins ... Vegging out now in front of location location location.

sfxmum · 13/05/2010 20:04

hello

not much done today just sorting out revision calender to start Monday, really tired, hope dd actually sleeps tonight
endless bugs in her class

quiz night at school tomorrow we might go if dd likes the babysitting arrangements but it will be a last minute job

vbus · 13/05/2010 20:41

Swimming here too, out like a light. Think I will have an early night too as I think I'm coming down the boys cold, great. Need some warm weather

Tilly - meant to say well done DS2 on his walking, yay! Mine is happy to walk at home but still prefers to hold hands when outside, it has been a very gradual process

Sfx - enjoy the quiz if you go

Nearly had a cake disaster today. I made a fruit loaf for school fair. After I made it I licked the spoon when tidying up and thought it tasted quite tart and disgusting. 10mins later I realised I'd forgotton to add the sugar Had to retrieve it from oven and chuck a load of sugar in, luckily it was still goey enough for me to stir in, cake saved!

dustythedolphin · 14/05/2010 08:56

Vbus @ cake with no sugar - very worthy and wholesome!!

Copper I love it when the kids have a had a busy day and are tired, fed and asleep, so I can veg out

Kew - get you - you can now watch your old school friend's career with interest

UptoapointLordCopper · 14/05/2010 10:17

vbus - good save! I've done similar thing with scone base and forgot egg . You'd have thought I'd realise the thing was a bit on the non-sticky side ...

Location location location is an appalling programme. No sympathy for buyer who has millions but can't find "dream home". A good kicking is what they need. Entirely uphold rights of millionaires to find houses they like but really no need to go on telly and rub our noses in it.

Going out tonight too! Must get a 10-min power nap or will be yawning by 9.30.

sfxmum · 14/05/2010 10:42

vbus I forgot onions in my soup the other day, cue tears frantic chopping and sautéing was a tad hormonal that say

lordcopper I can't watch reality TV I have now found my favourite word which perfectly describes my feelings Fontrum
but I don't mind Grand Designs some deluded folly but also some hard won dreams

dd was up quite a bit during the night them slept until 9, was late to school, I took her because she seemed very chirpy just until I mentioned getting dressed for school, then she cried almost all the way there
I am sure she is ok but feels really nasty

UptoapointLordCopper · 14/05/2010 11:04

Did anyone see Outnumbered last night. So funny. Every charlatan therapist should have a Karen to educate them.

dustythedolphin · 14/05/2010 12:36

Copper that's how I feel about those plonkers with too much money and faffing around complaining they can't find "dream house"

More than half the world's population don't have enough food, so what are they complaining about - should realise how privilaged they are

SFX did you manage to speak to teacher about horrid child hitting DD?

Copper is that the new Outnumbered series?

sfxmum · 14/05/2010 12:49

dusty I did yes, apparently and ongoing problem, not surprising I have enormous sympathy for the child but would rather mine not to be victim of this child's poor upbringing

Kewcumber · 14/05/2010 14:34

Copper - funny I have never seen Outnumbered but caught the last half of it yesterday and Karen was indeed hilariously funny - I particularly liked the "ladylike" hitting line Will be watching it again.

sfx was it french onion soup?

UptoapointLordCopper · 15/05/2010 09:53

Good morning.

Woke up at 6am.

But a nice day.

Just had a look at the Mrs Cameron quitting job thread and at 200 pounds for a Smythson travel wallet (whatever that is). People spend money like that?

(Sorry for excessive use of emoticon. Power of speech diminished in the morning.)
