Time for a new thread!!

Mellow, congratulations!

Dusty, ds2 would look so cool with a Beatles haircut

Pc, sorry you've all been ill, glad you're on the mend. Can't believe ds will be 2

Vbus, well done on getting dh into the spare room, dh refuses to move from our bed when he's ill!! Hope he's all better for your holiday, where are you going?

We're also ready for a holiday, am waiting for The Sun cheapie deals to start up again!

tillyfernackerpants · 09/05/2010 18:22

sfx, have only read first one, on waiting list at library for others. Did quite enjoy it though took me a while to get into

OP posts:
sfxmum · 09/05/2010 18:24

oh yes think you did mention it I have them if you want to borrow and are coming this way any time soon it goes totally full on for the second the third is harder to get into imo

UptoapointLordCopper · 09/05/2010 18:56

What is the millenium trilogy?

Been out this afternoon with DS2 - had chocolate brownie cake and a run in the park and a browse in oxfam bookshop. Quite nice and relaxing. No moaning.

Have ordered books for learning to play the recorder.

at lib dems dirty tricks. But even more at Goldsmith person being electable. Can't get over that.

tillyfernackerpants · 09/05/2010 20:32

Copper, its the Steig Larsson books - Girl with a Dragon Tattoo etc

Sfx, yes please!! Maybe meet for coffee one morning? I can also return a couple of other books I have of yours!

dustythedolphin · 09/05/2010 22:50

SFX thanks for asking. We're good, had a fab day on the beach and climbing hills today - its been oddly sunny

Bonkers boss has been a bit nicer since she got stranded abroad for two weeks - being nice doesn't suit her though and just makes me suspicious that she is gearing up for something horrid. It was great while she was off, as the person above her (the CEO) is lovely...

Are you still running regularly?

TBH I lost my vote as we forgot to apply for a postal vote . Its the first time ever I haven't voted

Kewcumber · 09/05/2010 23:26

"What is the millenium trilogy?" Never mind that - can someone remind me what a book is?

sfxmum · 10/05/2010 10:11

hello all

confined to house again keeping dd home one more day, she is already bored I think

tilly yes just let me know I think I will have finished the last one in a couple of days, just let me know if you are coming my way

dolphin still running and so is dh so once in a while we go on longer runs together
about boss I can see how that what make you suspicious

kewC I think the year I read the most was when dd was born, over the first 6 months, since then it has been hit and miss
but have huge pile I promised myself to tackle from exam time in mid June to new course start in September

Lordcopper dd is learning the recorder and her book seems to be the standard comes with a CD too although we don't use it, it is called Recorder Magic

vbus · 10/05/2010 14:52

Hello all

Sfx- how is DD now, and how are the boredom levels? I liked the Star Trek film too. I also enjoyed NM

Dusty - you must be gutted you didn't vote, you may get chance later in the year anyway

Tilly - sorry to read about family troubles, how is your mum now?

I am reading 'White Tiger' atm. Deffo used to read a lot more too, but tricky to find the time these days

Well better get ready for pick up, toodle pips

UptoapointLordCopper · 10/05/2010 18:21

Hello!

What a day! Took DS2 in to work, then stopped at Northala on the way home and climbed all the mountains, then walked to pick up DS1 and walked back. Exhausted now. Trying to make a Malaysian-style herbal spare-rib soup now. But it's all probably going to go wrong ...

So are the Steig Larsson books good then? They are detective novels, aren't they?

Kew - you philistine.

sfx - I wanted recorder books that would suit both DS1 and me. How hard can it be? I can already play "Oh when the saints".

So what's happening with this government business then? Down with the twats, I say. (Not that many smug ones around now, are there?)

sfxmum · 10/05/2010 20:28

vbus dd is fine thanks fr asking I think she could have gone to school but she had earache over the weekend and looked a bit fragile this morning, I tried to make it a boring day I did chores and got her to do homework etc

about books I think I might go back t read the booker prize and orange short lists so as to get a sense of what is going on, are you enjoying WT? take it its the booker one

lorcopper I like the books as thrillers go it is quite good, very political in some ways, and very cross genre I would say

amused at political goings on especially the tabloid hysterical headlines

so will Gordo just hire a man and a van? so as to be in with the hard economic times?

sfxmum · 10/05/2010 20:29

and grammar notably absent

dustythedolphin · 10/05/2010 21:24

Vbus, I'm afraid I would have voted for Tory Boy

If its any consolation, I've never seen a candidate work quite as hard as he did, to get elected.

PC how is your house move going?

We're going to be over 10-17 July, is anyone fancies a MN night out? That is, if you are still speaking to me after my "Tory Boy" confession

Never thought I would back a Tory but can never bring myself to vote Lib Dem as I will always associate them with the BNP.

Now we have the prospect of a Lab/Lib Dem/Ulster Unionist/Sinn Fein coalition or what???

dustythedolphin · 10/05/2010 21:25

lol at thought of Gordy with a man'n'van

UptoapointLordCopper · 10/05/2010 21:47

Just heard program on radio about Gordon Brown. Is he gone then?

dolphin - I knew you'd vote for Tory Boy. That's why I did not commiserate with you for not voting.

Will try Steig Larsson books after finishing two Ian Rankin books and two Michael Innes book. Do people still read Michael Innes books? Very old fashioned and silly but I like them.

dustythedolphin · 10/05/2010 22:03

Copper . I am not a Tory, honestly , but would rather them than Lib Dems and Richmond will never be labour, so its a tactical vote

Gordy has given in his notice and will hang around for another few months to give them time find a neew party leader, but he's still PM

sfxmum · 10/05/2010 22:17

lorcopper that is good, have you read Edmund Crispin? like old fashioned stuff like it

dolphin is it because he is pretty? dh felt nauseous listening to local mums salivating over him last Saturday at music class

Labour need to retreat and re group and leave the Tories to form a minority government possibly with limited back up from Lib Dems maybe for a year or 2 written agreement no funny business

or they can give me the job but am not taking any ministers

sfxmum · 10/05/2010 22:24

have you seen the Adam Boulton V Alastair Campbell thing it is very very funny
men and their ways they all need some sleep I think

sfxmum · 10/05/2010 22:28

on youtube and here with commentary

Kewcumber · 10/05/2010 22:36

dusty - I always knew you had a bit of a crush on Zacky! Apparently (so my spies tell me) he turned down the chance of a safe seat becasue he wants to represent Richmond where he lives/grew up (can;t remember which).

In my defence on books - I used to read one a day pre DS but the only opportunity became on the tube and that was a chance to catch up on sleep so books got tossed!

UptoapointLordCopper · 11/05/2010 09:05

At work early today due to circumstances, so heard Nick Robinson on Today program, talking about lib dem and head-and-heart decision. Can perfectly understand if they cannot stomach coalition with the tories. Makes me feel a bit sick just thinking about it. Luckily did not have too much breakfast, but if you lot continue to talk about that Zac person I might still be sick.

sfx - have only read one Edmund Crispin, but may seek out more.

dustythedolphin · 11/05/2010 09:27

SFX/Kew oh you know me sooo well

No seriously, the LDs have done some bonkers things and are inherently dishonest in their election campaigns. Zac, though a Tory, is a maverick Tory and extremely bright and passionate about the environment. Plus he is indigenous to Richmond - he was the best candidate IMHO.

The downside is he is James Goldsmith's son (he of "when a man marries his mistress, it just freates a vacancy for the next mistress" quote ) and isn't embarassed to be seen ith with Boris Johnson (was it him who referred to BME ppl as people from "Bongo, Bongo land?" )!!

Zac has a HUMUNGOUS..following and Susan Kramer didn't stand a chance against him. He will be virtualy impossible to shift. I feel much safer the council being in Tory hands, just in terms of the day to day efficiency/sensible decisions side of things.

When I was a Labout councillor, the Tories used to vote with us and the Lib Dems were just seriously dodgy: a wierd coaslition of ppl who were peed off with the main two parties, rather than a strong force with clear well thought out policies of their own.

You may detest the Tories, but at least we know what they stand for

I just looked at the Tories and Lib Dems comparative policies on children/education/child protection and its confirmed my view of the Tories being more sensible

rant..rant..rant

The thought of Labour staying in power when they have no mandate worries me, as I agree they need to retreat, consider where they need change and regroup.

Ed Balls as PM??

Eeeeeeeeeek!!

Mind you if it was Jack Straw as PM, I would support him - have a lot of respect for auld Jack
