Expectant Mums in Bristol

Ninjacat · 10/04/2009 12:46

I'm 8 weeks pg and should all go ok will be due in November. Just wondered if there are any more mums to be out there? This is number 2 for me but with a twelve year gap so all feels a bit new.

Hi ActivityApple. Welcome back to Bristol, it doesn't change that much but it's odd going back I'm sure.
Good luck with move and Baby.

Hi Ninjacat,
I am 11 weeks pregnant and don't really know anyone else who is pregnant. My friends are far too busy mountainbiking and climbing to think about babies!
I'm 36 years old and this is sort of my first baby (what I mean by that is I lost my last baby at 24 weeks pregnancy).
I saw your profile and God of Small Things is one of my favourite books too - so beautifully and poetically written.
bye for now,
Mahalo

Ninjacat · 20/04/2009 10:12

Hi Mahalo,
Lovely to hear from you.
Just a quick message because I should really be on my way to work.
I know what you mean about the friends, mine are the same!
I hope you're getting lots of support this time around.
Stay in touch,
N

Hi Ninjacat,
So how's things going? Have you had your dating scan yet? I got a call from the midwife a couple of days ago saying that I hadn't turned up for my appointment - but I didn't know I had one!
They've rebooked it for next Thursday - I have worked out that I should be 12 weeks 6 days by then.
Hope that you're not getting the dreaded sickness. Mine has started to pass now with the help of acupuncture and lots of crackers : )
bye for now,
Mahalo

Ninjacat · 24/04/2009 08:31

Hi Mahalo,
Things are going ok. I'm waiting for the results of a few tests and then hopefully I'll be able to relax into it a bit more.
I've had four scans already at early pregnancy clinic so they won't give me a dating scan. Will have to wait until 20wks now but I'm a bit fed up of being poked and prodded any way.

I'm glad your sickness is passing, I've not had it too badly (touch wood) but feel pretty rough this morning.

My mw appointment is a week after yours at which point I'll be 11wks 6dys. Apparently they're supposed to see you between 9 and 10 weeks but there is a baby boom on (valentines or the recession - I'm not sure).

Hope all is well,

N

gosh - 4 scans that must be very stressful for you but i guess reassuring too when you see that the heart is still beating. i had a scan at 6 weeks at the early preg unit. i was absolutely terrified but thanks goodness all was well.
i start a new job on monday - i haven't worked full time for a while so will be a bit of a shock to the system!
hope you are having a good day.

Hi, I am due at the start of September with DC4. How are you newbies finding Bristol maternity services so far?

Ninjacat · 24/04/2009 23:21

Hi mahalo - Yes things have been a bit stressful, I've had quite a lot of bleeding but baby is fine. It is nice to see the heartbeat and on the last scan it was moving about too which made me giggle.
Congratulations and best of luck with the new job. I'm freelance and since getting pg I've found it really hard to motivate myself, do need to pull my finger out though or I'll be as poor as a church mouse very soon.
Enjoy the weekend, hope the sun shine stays.
N

Hi bratnav - Congrats on DC4. I've had quite a lot of contact with St Micheals EPAC who have been fantastic but not had any real contact with mw yet, except early pg class which was a bit like a mass booking in where they get all the non personal bumf done in one fell swoop. How about you?

OP posts:
mahalo · 01/05/2009 13:36

Hi Ninjacat,
Had my scan - all was well thank goodness. The baby looked ace! I'm 13 weeks and one day now. I will be visiting the consultant next tues for a nuchal scan and blood tests just to keep an eye on things as the baby i lost had loads of excess fluid on her neck so they want to check that this one isn't the same.
Started wearing maternity jeans today as things were getting a little uncomfortable.
Work is going fine - not too stressful at the moment.
How are you?
Mahalo

Ninjacat · 01/05/2009 15:29

Hi Mahalo,
I'm really pleased to hear your scan went well and that work is no too stressful .

I'm at home in bed with flu (not swine flu - but nothing like keeping up with the zeitgeist). Ugh, feel rotten but not as bad as yesterday when dp had to get dr to do a home visit - have antibiotics now and just waiting for them to kick in. It's a shame because I was supposed to be working in Liverpool today and was really looking forward to a night away in a nice hotel - still I'm being very well looked after here.

I've got my tests back. Mostly everything is ok and the bleeding was located (not baby) and can be dealt with after baby is born.
I did test positive to Strep B though which means I might have to have IV ab's during labour but trying not to think that far ahead.
Good luck with the nuchal.

Hi Ninjacat,
Sorry that you're ill. Shame it's not swine flu - it might be interesting to see how you look with a snout
Hope that you feel better soon.
Off to inlaws for the weekend - they're great, have a super comfy spare bed and make fantastic food. Should be good!
Will let you know how it goes next tues,
Mahalo

mahalo · 06/05/2009 20:45

All went well at the tests on Tues - the consultant said it was 'a beautiful beginning'. What a relief!
How are you feeling Ninjacat? Better I hope.
Mahalo

Ninjacat · 06/05/2009 21:42

Hi Mahalo,

I'm so glad all went well on Tuesday
Few, you must be glad that bits over and done with.

I have my first MW appointment tomorrow morning.
I was starting to get quite worried because my pg symptoms vanished whilst I was ill but they seem to have come back now so fingers crossed.

I'm still not a 100% better but I'm nowhere near as bad as I was. Finish the ABs tonight so hopefully will perk up soon. Not grown a snout yet but looking quite piggy as I've put on so much weight.

How's the new job going? Well I hope.

Hi Mahalo how are you doing?
I made it back to work yesterday for the first time in ages as I feel so much better now than I did, thank goodness.
Loving this sun shine. I hope it stays for the summer.
My partner and I are working 8 festivals and I don't think I could bear it if its muddy again.
Hope all is well for you.

OP posts:
mahalo · 13/05/2009 13:40

Hi Ninjacat,
I'm pretty well thanks. Started preg yoga class last night which I really enjoyed. Wow 8 festivals. I might go to one or two if I'm not too massive and uncomfortable! Main plan over the summer is to do some touring and camping in Pembrokeshire.
Good news you're back to work and are feeling better.
Cheers for now,
Mahalo

Ninjacat · 14/05/2009 22:06

Hi Mahalo,
Glad your keeping well.
I'm from pembrokeshire originally. It's a lovely part of the world and I always get excited about going home.
Pregnancy Yoga sounds good. Is that at the Tobacco Factory?
Do you know if you get an Every One Active card you get free swimming if your pregnant? I picked mine up on wednesday and I'm hoping to go for a dip tomorrow (as I'm working from home).
Apparently Horfield do pregnancy aqua fit so thought I might give that a try soon.
I have a consultant appointment on Tuesday at St Micheals. The MW put me down for shared mw/consultant care. Not really sure why but hopefully all will be revealed.
Enjoy the weekend,
N

OP posts:
mahalo · 15/05/2009 20:02

hi Ninjacat,
No the yoga is on glos road (my neck of the woods).
Yes you can get free swimming but they might want to see your maternity card (you know the free prescription card thing.
Yes I had heard that there was aqua fit in Horfield baths but I think it's in the daytime which is out for me just now as I work every day (booooooooooo). I keep meaning to go swimming but haven't got round to it yet. It's certainly not my favourite sport - I'm more partial to a bit of snowboarding or mtnbiking but can't really do those at the moment I guess.
Let me know how the consultant appointment goes. I see a consultant loads - quite enjoy it actually - got another scan with him in two weeks.
Have a good weekend. I'm meant to be going walking in the Brecon Beacons tomorrow - I think I'd better pack some full on waterproofs!
Mahalo

Ninjacat · 19/05/2009 20:22

Hi Mahalo,

I had my consultant appointment today. The man I saw was truely lovely and really put my mind at rest.
Apparently I was there because my son was 9lb 12oz when he was born so they just want to keep an eye out for diabetes.
Any way the consultant said I was young (oh such a lovely man) and healthy he wasn't worried about me at all so no real need to go back to the hospital unless I wanted to. He did say if I have any worries I can call straight through to the hospital and arrange to see him again.
Best of all he said the least he could do was let me see my baby and gave me a scan and even printed out the pictures for me to take home.

I'm glad to say that baby is well and "playing" as consultant said and looks "perfectly normal".
It's all starting to feel that little bit more real now.

Hope you enjoyed your walk. I spent Saturday in A&E with my son who fractured his thumb so was a bit of a wipe out weekend.

When are you due by the way?

N

OP posts:
mahalo · 23/05/2009 23:03

Hi Ninjacat,
Great news that all is well with your baby.
I had my 16 week appointment yesterday and heard the heart beat loud and clear which was great.
Got another scan next week with the consultant so hope that goes well too.
Hope that your son is ok - what do they do for a fractured thumb? I broke a toe trying to breakdance at a wedding a couple of years ago and the hospital just told me to go home - not even a little bandage or anything - most disappointing!
Having a chilled out weekend just reading and eating really and working on putting on more and more fat around my stomach. Might cut the grass tomorrow - but that's about the excitement of the weekend!
I'm due on 5th Nov but I will be having a sunroof (medical probs means I can't go through the labour) so will prob be end of Oct sometime. When are you due?

Have a good rest of weekend,
Mahalo

Ninjacat · 24/05/2009 12:38

Hi Mahalo,
Broke your toe break dancing! Classic.
Fractured thumbs get a whole lot more attention by the sounds of it. Rom is in a fetching red plaster up to half way up his arm.
Thankfully he should have it off next Monday (8th) which is better than the 6wks we were originally told and would mean he had to have it on for Glastonbury.

We're having a pretty lazy weekend too. We were supposed to climb Pen-Y-fan today but the boy has a cold and I have to work next week (1/2 term) so didn't want to take any chances with him getting any worse. Such beautiful weather though so pretty gutted about not going.

The end of October is a pretty cool time to be born (especially if it's the 25th as that's my Birthday)

I'm due on 22nd Nov but was two weeks late last time so watch this space.

Good luck with the scan next week,

N

Hi Ninjacat,
hurrah - saw the lovely babber this morning. Very clear scan and even saw it hiccup!
Got next scan in 3 weeks - the detailed 20 week one.
I'm an October baby too but on the 7th - what a wonderful month!
Yes I do tend to try and breakdance at weddings - even at my own I was attempting to spin on the floor in my wedding dress! hmmm mabye one too many tequilas...I am useless at it but all good fun!
Have you got a bump yet? I'm a bit worried that I'm getting too fat - I've put on 10 lbs in the last 17 weeks but not sure how as I'm not pigging out too much and still cycling and doing yoga. Maybe I sleep eat or something...?
Hope you're enjoying the sporadic sunshine,
Mahalo.
