Expectant Mums in Bristol

Ninjacat · 10/04/2009 12:46

I'm 8 weeks pg and should all go ok will be due in November. Just wondered if there are any more mums to be out there? This is number 2 for me but with a twelve year gap so all feels a bit new.

Glad you had a good time in Dublin Mahlo.
Swine Flu really? Did they give you anything for it?
I got sent home from work yesterday because my workshop group are all off with Swine Flu. I haven't been feeling great for a couple of days now, sore throat, burning mouth, heavy feeling on my chest, gurgling tummy. Sound familiar? I'm really hoping not.

I hope the scan went well. Do you want to know what flavour it is or are you waiting for the big day?

As for large bumps I am mashoove. My mum made the very delicate comment of "and your not just big on your belly!" then yesterday a friends boyfriend said "so your what? 8 months pregnant?" charming

Angels hope you are well. SPD sounds a nightmare, especially with a smally about.

I thought we were supposed to bloom in this bit. Ugh, it's all hype.

Fingers crossed the sun might return soon.

Well we had a change of plan. Looked at the weather forecast for Wales and looked at the weather forecast for south of France hmmmmm...We're off to Biarritz in the morning! Spent far too much money on the accommodation but oh well it'll be the last holiday for just the two of us (that's how I'm trying to justify it anyway).

The swine flu thing was ok - I've been worse with 'normal' flu. The consultant said not to take anything except paracetamol to keep my temperature down. I'm fine now and my curly tail has nearly disappeared. Maybe just take some paracetamol Ninja and see how you go.

The baby is a girly flavour - they've checked at 3 different scans now and no boy bits! The 24 week scan was great - baby looked lovely and cosy.
Better go and pack now.
Hope you all have a good weekend and that you feel better soon Ninja.
Mahalo.

Ninjacat · 18/07/2009 22:05

Mahalo I'm glad your feeling better. Dr said pretty much the same to me. They don't want to give me anti virals because they are untested so paracetamol it is. At the moment I don't feel as bad as I did when I had flu in May so using that as a guide/reassurance.

I'm so at your trip to france. Family say there has been loads of rain in pembs so I think you've made a wise choice. Hope you have a fantastic time.

Congrats on the scan going well and more congrats on a girl flavoured baby

Hey Ninja, Angels and anyone else checking out this post.
Had a great time in Biarritz - lived in shorts n tshirt for a week and even squeezed my humps, lumps and bumps into my bikini! . Biarritz seems to be a place for beautiful people. Even the older people looked pert and sporty. Felt a bit out of place all pale and wobbly - surprised that I didn't get arrested by the beach police for my saggy bottom hanging out of my bikini.
Come back to this poo weather....what's going on..brrrrr
Hope you are feeling better now Ninja. How's the minibeast? Mine is going crazy in there - booting about all over the place! Got another of my many scans on Thursday - still get nervous about it. I'll be 6 months on Wednesday - hurrah! Finding it hard to put socks on now, grunting and panting like a buffalo!
Angels - hope you've got the SPD under control and aren't in too much pain.
Ninja - how is the job going? have you settled in now? It's been a month or so hasn't it? When are you stopping work? I finish 30th Sept - not actually my choice, it's just when my contract runs out but I'll be 35 weeks so will be glad to stop I'm sure.
Hear from you soon and maybe we should meet up sometime before we drop our babbers.
Mahalo

Ninjacat · 26/07/2009 21:49

Ah Mahalo welcome home. I'm envious you managed to get into a bikini. I'm huge now and it's not just my bump, it's all of me On the plus side I feel much better and dr says was not SF as temp didn't get high enough - phew.

Job is going ok but management is shocking. PRTC have been really supportive though so that helps.

Would be lovely to meet up before the sproglets arrive, especially as we are the only three pregers ladies in Bristol.

I plan on working until mid November but dropping down to part time hours by end Oct. I have a film that has to be delivered about the same time as this baby ( I know, talk about unachievable deadlines!) So I'd like to get that out of the way early and baby a bit later, but fate may have other plans.

Baby is going bananas. Morning and nights he's most active. I'm really shocked about how much I can feel him.

Congrats for Wednesdays 6 month mile stone Mahalo and good luck at the scan.

Hi there both

Sorry to be so quiet - I was away from the laptop a bit at my Mum's which made a nice change and since I've been back its been hectic with work, a alternately bunged up/runny nose (assistant at Boots was not very helpful "we only recommend paracetamol" - for a blocked up nose? Hmm.. I'm risking extra strong Lockets...)and trying to keep DD occupied at home in all this rain (I have decided to bring out the raincoats and wellies this afternoon - enough staying indoors!)
We have found a really cheap holiday in Spain for mid August to escape the weather - I'm not sure I could fit in a bikini by then though (well done mahalo!) , although my maternity costume is really saggy and horrible - time for shopping!.

My SPD seems to be under control as long as I don't walk too far, but my bump seems massive in comparison with my other pregnancies. Which is making me worry about gestational diabetes (I'm at risk as I have PCOS) - I would prefer it if the little fella didn't grow too enormous! Maybe its just too many cakes...

It would be lovely to meet up sometime and compare bump sizes. Not long till you finish work Mahalo - it will come round really fast. I'm aiming to keep going till 38 weeks (mainly because I work from home and my work pay pitiful maternity pay!) I bought a cheap nightie and big pants at the weekend for my hospital bag - an attempt at being organised at least. We don't need to buy barely anything, but what we do have is all up in the loft - need DH to get it in good time to give it a good wash. When are you supposed to be ready - 4 weeks before? Can't remember....!

I hope everyone keeps dry
Hugs
Angels

Ninjacat · 31/07/2009 20:12

I'm off to Candi Statton at the Ampitheatre tonight.
Hope you are both having a good weekend

OP posts:
mahalo · 01/08/2009 23:01

Hope you had a good night out Ninja. I had a wild night tonight - went down the local for a lemonade and a bowl of olives and back home by 9pm!
Just to reassure you Angels and Ninja, my bikini is not one of those stringy things - the bottoms are rather generous and accommodating of my large buttocks!
Hope you're feeling better now Angels and I bet you're looking forward to your holiday. My sister lived in Granda and Madrid for a fair few years so I went to Spain fairly often to visit her - lovely country. She now lives in North Germany so not quite so appealing, weather wise, to visit...
Today was bit of a landmark - actually bought our first thing for the babber - a little play rug thing - felt slightly emotional because it seems 'proper' now - we really are going to have a child in 3 months time. We also wandered round Mothercare and were quite overwhelmed with all the stuff - not sure what we need to buy. Do people have a moses basket and a cot? It's all an expensive mystery to me. Can't we just stick her in a washing basket?
So what film are you making Ninja - is it with young people? I'm busy sorting out an art exhibition with some young people to showcase their work but the exhibition isn't till Spring so I'll be long gone from work by then.
ooh, large bar of dairy milk is calling - must be off.
Mahalo

mahalo · 01/08/2009 23:02

Oh, forgot to say - scan was great. There is a long legged lady in my tum and she's looking very well. hurrah!

Ninjacat · 03/08/2009 23:45

Hope the long legged little lady and the bouncing baby boy are all on top form.

Work is pretty full on, I have do have one film with yps but the rest thankfully are just me.

I'm definitely in need of a holiday. My sons dad is giving us real grief at the moment which is very stressful for all of us and utterly pointless.

Hope you are both feeling well and the SPD is not getting any worse Angels.

OP posts:
mahalo · 06/08/2009 20:52

Ninja - So sorry to hear about you getting grief from son's dad - just what you don't need. Hope it gets resolved very soon.
Just another week at the office for me- drifting by in a chocolate fuelled haze, forgetting what I'm doing and waiting for the end of the day to come.
My folks came over and bought me a moses basket - I feel official now - I really am having a baby!
Another scan next week. I'm 27 weeks today and feel like a weeble - wobbling around everywhere...
Angels - not long till your holiday then - great stuff.
bye for now,
Mahalo

Ninjacat · 07/08/2009 19:51

Thanks Mahalo, unfortunatly he's all about his rights and nothing about responsibilities. It's very sad because it's not very healthy for Romain.

I like the sound of your chocolate. Mmmm.

I don't think I've quite got to grips with this whole being preggers thing. I have made no plans or purchases what so ever. Think I might have to get my head around it soon.

I got anouther sneak peak at babs Wednesday night. Phoned my dr complaining of a pain in my ribs and they whisked me into the delivery suite (Mark at Big Chill, middle of night, Romain at home arghhh). Luckily a friend came with me and her hubby had the boy (she is also a consultant so was nice to my own private medic with me) (starting to feel a bit Zoe Williams with all these Parenthesis')

Unfortunatly the woman in the room next door was screaming. I feel a bit traumatised by the whole thing actually. Got to see where I'll have this baby and it is really medical. Not allowed a home birth or I think I'd be tempted.

Any way babber and I are fine. Bloods all normal. No idea what's causing the pain but dr friend who saw scan says she thinks baby might have kicked me in the ribs which has inflamed them.

I'm a bit scared about the size of a baby that can kick me in the ribs friends reply was "didn't you see the drs shock when she scanned your ribs and said 'oh look, babies foot'".

Hope you're all good and best of luck with the scan.

We laddies should sort out that coffee sometime.

MyAngels · 13/08/2009 12:40

Hi ladies

How are we feeling? Sorry I've been a bit quiet for a while - we are potty training DD at the moment and I found the first week of it really stressful (she wasn't too keen either), but I think we are both getting the hang of it slowly and I haven't had to use the Vanish on my carpet since Sunday....

Sorry to hear that you needed to go the hospital Ninjacat, but glad all is OK. Your post reminded me that I could hear some woman screaming next door when I was having DD - it is rather upsetting to have to hear it, isn't it?

I had to go to Southmead this week for my physio appointment (SPD is much better as I've been trying to be good with no lifting, pushing etc), but it was hell on toast trying to find a parking space mid afternoon (I tried the maternity section - I tried every parking option!). When I told DH that we might have trouble parking when I go into labour, he said "Oh well I'll take you on the back of the motorbike then!" Yeah - that could be interesting!

We plan on getting a bit more baby oriented after our holiday - need to move my home office out of the little bedroom ready for cot/change table even though baby will be in the moses basket with us for 3 months. We haven't bought anything - pretty much everything is up in the loft (getting dusty and covered in spiders - cue much washing).

I have a really bad case of preg-head at the moment - left my car/house keys on the boot of my friend's car the other day. She drove off with them and they fell off somewhere!! Luckily someone handed them into the police station and I have them back, but am considering putting them on a string round my neck from now on.

Keep eating that chocolate mahalo - I'm helping myself to DD's potty reward chocolates at the moment - stealing candy from a baby - how bad is that?

Hugs to all
Angels
xx

Ninjacat · 14/08/2009 10:33

Hello all,
Ticking-over here. Still pretty stressed but trying to rise above it.
Preg head over here too. I drove straight through a red light yesterday directly into a stream of oncoming traffic thankfully they just let me in and no one even beeped but shook me up quite a bit. Feel quite cross with myself to be such a hazard on the road.

Off with the Wild West Project today for Bee home making and a picnic. Hope the sun stays shinning.

Trying to get on top of being pregnant and find a bit of time to enjoy it. Keep saying I will go to pregnancy yoga but the relaxation centre (closest place to me) is on a Monday night and with Mark working away I can't really commit to it. Yogawest do a Weds night drop in so might do that one instead. Have either of you ever been there.

Best of luck with the potty training Angels

Hope your having a good week Mahalo

Might go to the music thing in Queens Square tonight if I'm feeling really adventurous.

Hi ladies,
Had a busy bee of a week - full on nesting mode! Sorting out the spare room into sort of a nursery. Got rid of the double bed, bought a sofa bed, a cot, a chest of drawers and a pushchair. Ended up in tears Sunday night after so much rushing around.
I'm working at the Banksy fundraiser tonight at the Museum. At work at my desk gorging on coke, choc and crisps to give me enough energy to spend 5 hours handing round wine and canapes to rich people.
Sorry to hear about the pain in the ribs Ninja. Strangely the same thing happened to me. I was in lots of pain and crawling around on the bathroom floor wondering if I had preeclampsia. Just about to get DH to take me to hospital when I started throwing up and after 10 mins felt lots better.

I went to Yoga West but didn't really like it as very busy and not any chance to chat to other fatties.
I'll be going back to my yoga group in Sept (it stopped over the summer). It's small and friendly and £7 for hour and half. You don't need to book either, just drop in when you can. www.damayoga.com/ It says on her website that it is in 6 week blocks but noone seems to do that - they just pay each week. I think it is cheaper though if you pay for a chunk at a time.
Bye for now as I'd better go and squeeze myself into some slightly smart clothes for this thing tonight.
Mahalo

Ninjacat · 20/08/2009 20:27

Thanks for the Yoga tip Mahalo.
Hope Banksy show went well. Was that the YB fundraiser?
I'm impressed with your organising we have done absolutely zilch in prep for Baby so really hope it's not early.
Still have pain in the ribs but can't find a reason for it. Have been given Cocodomol for emergencies but apparently babies can become addicted so have to be very sparing.
This baby is so active. He was wriggling from 2am until 4am. I think it's most unfair that he wakes me at night and he's not even born yet.
I'm a festival Widow again this weekend as Mark is at The Green Man, back for a day then off to Shambala. I have failed miserably on the festy front myself but enjoying the quiet weekends. We are going to go to Mosley Folk en famile as St Etienne and Beth Orton are playing and Mark has tickets but doesn't have to work. Also have friends to stay with so no tent
Hope you're both keeping well and enjoying the summer. Angels I think you might be basking in the sun now, hope you're having a lovely time.

OP posts:
mahalo · 21/08/2009 13:41

Yes twas the YB fundraiser - we raised £22,000 (mostly helped by the guy that bid £15,000 for the Banksy print in the auction.)
Hmmm - cocodomol - I love that stuff but I think I could get addicted to it so sure that a baby could. Sorry that your ribs still hurt - maybe you've pulled a muscle or something? I don't know anything though about biology!
We went to the Green Man last year but was complete mud fest so didn't really relax. Yes I like St Etienne and Beth Orton - nice and mellow and summery.
My babber is a night time wriggler too. Not getting that much sleep what with all the wriggling, crampy legs and toilet trips. Oh well...
Better get back to work I guess. Hope you're having a good hol Angels.
Mahalo

Ninjacat · 26/08/2009 22:21

£22K, very impressive.
I have spent the day filming Banksy exhibit, not long got back. Have to be back at Museum for 6am tomorrow to do time laps of que, ugh.
Went to Green Man just for the Sunday which was lovely. I have heard many a horror story from last year though.
Any way just popping in to say Hi really and off to bed now for 5am alarm.
Hope all is well,
N

Hi Ninja,
I will never again moan about the baby wriggling at night! Had a really stressful few days as she stopped moving (well I couldn't feel it anyway). Went to hospital on Sunday night and they did a heart beat trace for half hour and said all was ok. Still couldn't feel movements by Tuesday so back to hospital fearing the worst but again they traced the heartbeat and said all was ok. Got a scan tomorrow morning - can't wait to see her. Will put my over active mind at rest! (for at least a few mins anyway). I'll be 30 weeks tomorrow...oooooooohhhhh
Hope all went well with your queue filming. I imagine the exhibition will be even busier than usual - if that's possible as I think it closes on Monday doesn't it?
Any more hassle from your ex or has he calmed down a bit now?
I hope he has stopped bothering you.
Hey Angels - you back from hols yet? How was it?
Must go to bed now - another day at the office beckons...

Ninjacat · 27/08/2009 10:24

Hi Mahalo, just got back from que filming. Oh the joy

Sorry to hear things have been stressful for you. Glad you heard the heartbeat though and that they are taking your concerns seriously. Best of luck with the scan, will be thinking of you and hoping that little lady starts wriggling about soon. 30 weeks is a pretty good milestone.

My sons dad's still being a royal pain in the arse I'm afraid. I have court date for mid sept which we could all do without.
He's also started "Kettengate" which basically involves texting photos of the 3 new kittens he has bought in the hope they will tempt the boy down to visit.

On the Banksy front visibly preggers ladies can jump the que!!!

After my visit to St Micheals delivery suite I think I have decided to transfer to Southmead.

I think what I'm writing is pretty jumbled, sorry very tired but hope it makes some sort of sense.

Not many days left in the office now.

Quick message - scan was great. All is growing as should be. Estimated weight is 3lbs 10. She had moved into a breech position so the kicks are very low down and not so noticable. Last time at the scan she was head down so kicks were noticably in the middle of my tum - so that explains the change then. Phew!
I find the service I get at Southmead to be amazing. Such friendly and supportive staff.

kittens schmittens - what a thing to do...

Off to watch time travellers wife later - this will mean that I will be out of the house until 10pm!!! Life on the edge...

What's your due date again -I forgot?

Ninjacat · 27/08/2009 19:30

Big whoop whoop on the scan
Such a trickster turning breach on you at the last minute. You will have to have words with your little lady! (but seriously very glad it all went well)

Let me know what you thought of the Time Travelers Wife. I loved the book but am a bit scared to watch the film. Still out past 10pm, you are living dangerously.

Off camping and Llama trekking with my YPs at the weekend. Very exciting stuff.

My due date is 22nd Nov but I look 8mnts already and keep being told "you won't last that long". Some people have a nerve...

I was very naughty and had half a glass of wine in a pub (after a meal) on Tuesday. The barmaid felt so sorry for me and my half glass she gave it to me for free. No one seemed to notice my sheer abandon and decadence, thought I might at least get the odd tut. Most disappointing.

OP posts:
MyAngels · 01/09/2009 12:18

Hi - I'm back

The holiday was great - pretty hot and crowded, but the town (Tossa de Mar) was lovely and all the restaurants did nice fixed price 3 course dinners, so I got to eat loads too (and even a little wine)!

Now its back to work (and childminder for DD - I'm sure she's having more fun from that arrangement). And its turning all autumnal which means it can't be all that long before its baby-time!

I still haven't organised much - I had a discount code for jojo maman bebe, so ordered some nice stuff (am trying to resist going to the shop in Clifton in person again - I will have to spend lots). We are trying to clear out the house of all our other clutter before doing the nursery, but it seems to take forever.

I had to have a glucose tolerance test today (no food till 11am - torture!) - I hope I haven't got gestational diabetes, but not much I can do about it now I suppose.

Sorry to hear about the worries mahalo, but glad the scan showed all is well.
Ninja - was the St Michaels delivery suite really bad? As our dates are so close, maybe i'll see you in Southmead!

Hugs to you both
xx

Ninjacat · 02/09/2009 18:17

Welcome back Angels

Had my GTT today. Kept feeling like I was going to be sick after the drink.

They weren't too sympathetic about moving to Southmead. Also had a student midwife do my appointment which shouldn't be a problem but felt a bit odd because she seemed a bit nervous.

Have got them to agree to further strep B test at 36wks.

Hope all is well.

Yes, welcome back to sunny England Angels - what joy!
Just hanging around at work waiting till it's time to go to my preg yoga/relaxation class. First time I've been to this one - it's called relaxed birth and parenting. Will let you know how it goes.
So did you actually ride the llamas Ninja or do they just carry your stuff? I'd like a llama for the garden they look very friendly creatures. In fact I'd like to ride one around all day (it'd have to be a sturdy one) as I'm getting very tired of walking (or should that be waddling).
I cycle to work and back each day - about half hour each way but other than that not really doing much exercise. Are either of you doing anything active?
Off to Wales for the weekend to feast upon the delights that my mother-in-law will be cooking up - she's such a great cook and a veggie too so makes lots of veg treats for me.
I start doing school presentations on the joys of volunteering next week. Hope I can present sitting down - don't fancy standing on a stage for half hour or so - I might wobble and roll off.
Ante natal classes start next Thurs - hopefully I'll meet some people I'll get on with.
bye for now and when's good to meet for coffee and cake?
Mahalo
