and btw someone stole dd's pushchair from nursery it just was not there when I picked her up am somewhat puzzled as to why anyone would want a battered old Mclaren Volo

Hi everyone,

No time to read posts but I hope everyone is well. It's madness central chez mellow at the moment.

I'm starting on a new contract next Wed. Hurrah! But I'll really miss dd as I've been staying home for 18 months. And now the hunt for a nanny on top of the shop and house hunt. Sigh.

Steppie - I'm really sorry to hear about your mom. My thoughts are with you and your family.

I spotted mention of a night out. I would love to come when a date has been decided.

mellow2 · 23/04/2009 14:53

Sfx - Sorry to hear your pushchair has been stolen. Maybe it's a sign that dd doesn't need a pushchair anymore.

Kewcumber · 23/04/2009 15:00

Mellow don;t know any nannies but if you want to tootle over the bridge in the morning my CM has a vacancy and is lovely.

sfxmum · 23/04/2009 15:04

congratulations Mellow hope it goes well likewise with househunt
dd does not really need the pushchair but she does get tired and asks to be carried and it kills me, so much easier to just strap her on it and go

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 23/04/2009 15:06

you are better than me sfx - DS gets a defintie NO if he asks to be carried. My back just won;t take it withthe extra weight I piled on on the steroids.

sfxmum · 23/04/2009 15:10

on the way home today she was fine until half way then decided I wasn't running right and sulked, so annoyed me said 'fine I will just keep walking' cue screams no no please pick me up'

actually I think she was tired and thirsty

OP posts:
mellow2 · 23/04/2009 15:17

Sfx - thanks. Dd got a bike for her birthday. Maybe mini sfx would like a scooter.

Kew - Dd goes to a pre school in Ham, hence the need for a nanny who will be able to do school runs.

Kewcumber · 23/04/2009 16:05

Oh yes I forgot.

SJ99 · 23/04/2009 19:12

Mellow - congrats on job good luck with nanny quest

Sfx - at theft, outrageous. 1 o'clock club is fab, must get back there sometime. Have you asked what they do in the event it does rain on the day?

Had a great afternoon just idling in the garden. Thinking of starting DS2 on solids next week, have forgotten what to do, best get the blender on standby!

pcworld · 23/04/2009 19:57

How strange, SFX - I wonder if someone took it by mistake?

SJ, it will all come back to you. Just think butternut squash and basically anything orange, the more orange the better.

Mellow - yayyy re: job, that's great! Don't know if need a full-time nanny but if not there is a good website called sharingcare.co.uk or bestbear.

1 o'clock club is fab, such a shame we can't go until the summer hols as it clashes with nursery time for dd and sleep time for ds!

Thank heavens it's Friday tomorrow. Am vaguely thinking of braving Kingston with dd for some sandal shopping for her and shades shopping for me. My sunglasses broke on Monday and so I have been working extra hard on the crows feet squinting in the sun all week (no time to shop!).

Kew - how's the new job going?

slng · 23/04/2009 20:08

sfx - probably someone took pushchair by mistake? I sometimes carry DS2. Don't know how much he weighs, but he is nice and warm on a cold day. When I can't carry him I suggest that he should sit by the roadside and cry while I continue. Strangely he never took up the suggestion ...

SJ - pc is right. Just do orange things. In fact everything will turn out orange anyway. Apart from mushrooms. They become dark greyish and look horrific. I haven't recovered from that one yet.

Mellow - congrats on job. Sorry can't help with nanny. Good luck! Do you want Chinese nanny? I can ask Malaysian Chinese nursery staff if you like.

sfxmum · 23/04/2009 20:08

pcW I expect you are right about the pushchair
happy shopping tomorrow am taking dd to Sheen for shoes too

seem to have done something to my neck it really hurts

I like the 1O'clock club and so does dd

OP posts:
sfxmum · 23/04/2009 20:12

slng dd shouts at me with outrage 'NO YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO LEAVE ME ALONE'

SJ you are not doing baby led weaning then? I swore last time if I ever did this again I would completely bypass the puree

but just in case carrot sweet potato parsnip butternut squash white fish salmon etc
dd had an orange tinted nose for ages

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 23/04/2009 20:31

lol at orange purees! Though one of my best ones was a pea & courgette puree which was bright green, ds1 seemed to find it especially funny when I pretended to sneeze it out of my nose!

Sfx, hope the pushchair comes back.

Mellow, congrats on job & good luck with nanny hunt

Ds1 had his first swimming lesson today, seemed to go well though had to spend a bit of time beforehand persuading him it really would be fun!

sfxmum · 23/04/2009 20:36

tilly forgot to ask how your dh is feeling good luck for Sunday

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 23/04/2009 20:45

Sfx, he's ok I think, just a bit worried about how hot its going to be! He went to get his pack today from Excel, they have a big pasta party & an exhibition. He's managed to get me some running shoes while there! Definitely no excuses now

AnotherMuesliPleaseBarman · 23/04/2009 20:47

I think I have learned more about weaning from the last few posts than for the whole of my recent 2.5hr NCT postnatal session on the same subject

tillyfernackerpants · 23/04/2009 20:48

lol Muesli! I found the Annabel Karmel book quite good as a starting point

slng · 23/04/2009 20:55

Museli - voice of experience, as owner of many orange-spotted outfits: get yourself orange-coloured outfit to preempt the little darlings.

I liked the NCT book of weaning.

sfx - I don't mind carrying DS2, and I don't mind battling it out with him whether he gets carried or not, but I do mind people telling him that he's too old to be carried. Busy bodies, poking their noses in where they don't belong.

sfxmum · 23/04/2009 20:56

muesli when the time comes just ask I used to panic that dd would choke very precious first born

tilly I think the forecast is rain rain rain which should suit
good job on the shoes I thin I need new ones soon, did nice and easy 4 miles this morning might try 6 on Saturday but depends how I feel

OP posts:
SJ99 · 23/04/2009 21:07

Orange mess here we come Yes, must dig out old AK book, can't believe that woman has made a fortune out of selling purees.

Sfx - I too thought if I had a2nd child I'd do BLW but now I personally feel it's a big step going from milk to chunky food. I will probably start on purees and graduate to BWL at a faster rate than I did with DS1. As ever it's all trial and error and fun & games etc etc, will just have to see how it goes!

Tilly - LOL at green puree gag great news about trainers, no stopping you now. Will DH be going in fancy dress? How will we spot him on TV?

I haven't carried DS1 since last summer, towards end of pg I found it really difficult and so stopped doing it and haven't continued with it since

AnotherMuesliPleaseBarman · 23/04/2009 21:14

slng -
We are getting new carpets some time this year. Had been thinking along the lines of a neutral beige/grey, but now seriously considering hues of a more...um...orange variety. I guess we could just go for a complete 70's theme

sfxmum · 23/04/2009 21:14

I remember dd grabbing a piece of baguette and chewing on it along with a chunk of cheese, she was nearly 7months we were at a party and I got some funny looks

apple and carrot is nice too

slng busy bodies annoy me yesterday I was on the bus and a mum with a toddler was having a hard time, you know when they start walking and will just not sit for a minute if not strapped, she got lots of looks I went over and sat with her distracting the child ant talking to the mum
been there done that it is hard work

OP posts:
mellow2 · 24/04/2009 07:07

PCWorld - Thanks for the suggestions. Sharing is going to be tricky as dd is at Ham pre-school. I think it'll be important for her to have a familiar pre-school to look forward to when I'm at work. I think it'll be a big adjustment for the both of us.

Slng - That's okay. But I'll make sure I add in a preference for Chinese speaking nanny when I advertise.
