Chunky Moroccan chicken soup
Fry 2 sliced chicken breasts for 5 mins. Add 1 crushed garlic clove & 1/2tsp chilli flakes and cook for 1 min. Stir in 600ml veg stock, 400g can tomatoes with olives and 400g can drained chickpeas. Simmer for 10mins, sprinkle with parsley and serve.

slng · 29/10/2008 08:38

Morning all!

Mellow - that roti canai recipe looks nice. Did you use condensed milk? In fact can you get condensed milk in the supermarket? Have never tried! My kids like almost anything bready, so I'll give it a try soon.

spooky - I am so super-unmotivated these days. I feel already a great sense of achievement if I didn't shout at anybody all day. And if I manage to drink my tea before it's stone cold ...

Ros - moroccan soup sounds good. Will try it next. It's soup weather now, isn't it?

bunyanvillas · 29/10/2008 08:48

Quick question while we are on the subject of food, can anyone recommend which Madhur Jaffrey book I should buy? I see there are quite a few ...

Ros, what a great soup recipe -thanks.

Hope all poorly dcs are a bit better this morning ...

pokes head above parapet...
frightened off - and made to feel sorely inadequate - by culinary discourse

stepfordwife · 29/10/2008 09:07

..that aside
hope everyone's OK
and dcs feeling better

get as much rest as you can, SJ
happy party-planning, bunyan - lovely to meet you at last the other day, btw

spooky, all kicking off at work, eh? always find work quite comforting (when i finally get round to doing it, of course } as the one thing i feel vaguely good at (on a good day anyway)
but it is hard when it gets a tad too stressful, isn't it?

off to visit an old school pal of ds1's in dagenham today..that will take about a week on the tube, won't it?
have a good day everyone - crisp and sunny again. luvverly.

Morning all

Sfx - LOL at parking recipes! Looking forward to making some at the weekend

Soup looks really quick and easy will try that, ta for recipe Ros

DS woke up once in the night which was a pretty good but he's still not himself. He asked for breakfast today but then proceeded to eat none of it guess his mouth is still sore

How is mini-Sushi today?

Bunyan - kids style party for adults sounds fab!

Sppoky - well done on contract, but not so good on stressy work front

Stepie - have a good day visiting your friend

mellow2 · 29/10/2008 10:20

Slng - I use whole milk. I'm not a fan of condensed milk.

Right. We're off to visit a friend today.

Hope LOs are better. Have a nice day everyone.

Nice day, unfortunately ds was up at 5.30am so is now v tired & refusing to get dressed! I've decided to give in, just can't be bothered!

Sj, sorry ds doesn't seem to be any better.

sfxmum · 29/10/2008 11:18

hello all

ros thanks for recipe like simple yummy soups and definitely the weather for it

dh told me some guy at work was telling him there was heavy snow in Hanwell

spooky you love it really a bid might be hard work but the pay off is exhilarating
good luck with chocolate addiction isn't that periodical?

steppie inadequate? I think you miss the point I cook because I like to eat good luck with Dagenham take War and Peace

slng condensed milk is thick super sweet I seem to remember a pudding of childhood involving that and pineapple, fuzzy on details

mellow congrats on successful recipe

SJ & sushi hope both LO's are better today

dd cried and clung onto to me at drop off
I thought something like that would happen

we were walking there and some people who live near us and whose child is at same pre school, were walking ahead of us, the child keep crying loudly asking for mum and her dad smacked her then carried her
from then on dd was not keen on going and became visibly upset, she seemed fine when I left and the other little girl was getting a cuddle from the teacher.

I went running today looks gorgeous but my hands friezed must find gloves

sfxmum · 29/10/2008 11:19

SJ sorry missed that bit hope ds starts improving as the day goes on

rosmerta · 29/10/2008 11:42

sfx, that poor little girl

sfxmum · 29/10/2008 11:56

ros I suppose people bring up their children how they see fit but we never smacked so I guess dd was taken aback when at first she just wanted to walk with her to nursery

also the parents speak the same language I do and live on the next block along I have heard this sort of thing before when they walk past, the teacher was explaining that she was crying because she had not wanted to pout the coat on which might have been the case
I just don't really get smacking if nothing else because it seems so contra productive

btw I have some red polartec mittens and blue pixie hat if anyone wants them they are too small for dd now but look very new

rosmerta · 29/10/2008 13:01

Sorry sfx, had my judgey pants on there! I just don't agree with smacking, like you said seems counter productive.

Kewcumber · 29/10/2008 13:26

we have hats galore sfx but no mittens so might pinch those from you if you don;t mind

sfxmum · 29/10/2008 13:58

KC mittens for you then

Ros am terribly judgy mcjudgy myself just trying to give the benefit of the doubt really but it really upset me

apparently there are other children ill at nursery today, hope dd stays at sniffles

slng · 29/10/2008 14:07

steppie hope you get to Dagenham and back before Christmas. I read War and Peace on a motorcycle tour of France and Geneva. Quite a nice book to read, to my surprise! Got Madame Bovary now to read because heard a radio play about Flaubert. Easily influenced, I am.

Hope all LOs OK! And grown-up ones too. (Don't see why we should always miss out on well wishes.)

SJ99 · 29/10/2008 15:14

Well another sleepy day today, it is great that I can catch up on my sleep too, luxury. Went for a walk down by the river this morning as it is so lovely outside. Didn't realise how accessible Ham house is from here, will venture further another time.

Sfx - poor girl How was miniSfx's day?
I might try the hat if it's ok? The one I just bought DS doesn't fit although his new gloves are fine

sfxmum · 29/10/2008 15:22

day was fine thanks SJ she looks tired but was very lively when I picked her up

here is the hat but in dark blue

SJ99 · 29/10/2008 15:24

Perfect

SushiMummy · 29/10/2008 15:26

sj - hope mini-sj feels better soon.

sfx - feel about the girl. I don't like the idea of smacking but know how tempting at times. Maybe it's cultural thing, it's quite acceptable where I come from.

DS better than yesterday. We baked some cake and bread. He now wants to go to toyshop.

spookysausage · 29/10/2008 17:45

I woke up an hour early by mistake this morning (at 5.30am) and drove to work at 7.30am rather than 8.30am

It was soo cold I could hardly move my hands to drive the car

Event went OK today

mellow2 · 29/10/2008 18:29

Hello all,

Hope LOs are all better and grown ups are well rested.

Sushi - Well done for all the baking today. I am quite content on days baking because fills my, otherwise empty, days.

We went to a playground near friend's house. I nearly froze to death because I was dressed for staying indoors. I must dig out my woolly scarf, gloves, and jumpers.

mellow2 · 29/10/2008 18:32

Sausage - I meant to say last night that bids and projects sound like hard work but must beat having a boring workplace.
