hello bla bla bla

Cov, do you mind me asking which one you've got? Have been thinking about getting one, especially with having baby & toddler!

rosmerta · 23/09/2008 17:35

Cov, do you mind me asking which one you've got? Have been thinking about getting one, especially with having baby & toddler! Oh, and can you cook more than stews & soups in it?

sfxmum · 23/09/2008 17:37

KC what you need is an old style pill box to get you sorted

paddle the embassy are arsy about pics and I do them at designated shop a couple of doors down saves the hassle
sorry about dd

another thing about the school seems to be that there are hardly any doors it is all so strange and different from my day

btw the head was not very positive about school dinners I got the impression it was forced on them from above so the percentage of packed lunches is quite large which is fine by me

Paddlechick666 · 23/09/2008 17:43

Ros, I'd advise going for a 4 person slow cooker tbh.

my 2 person was fine for me and dd when she was smaller but it got so there wasn't sufficient to freeze so i upgraded to a bigger model.

maybe Kew could have CoV's and you could have Slng's?

BIDDING WAR!

I am freaking out about schools now that you lot are all trotting around viewing them! Maybe I should go and see the one dd will go to next Sept if I am still here.

Kew, that's great thanks. Will have to get them from you.

Paddlechick666 · 23/09/2008 17:43

oh and bummer about the pills, you druggie

sfxmum · 23/09/2008 17:49

paddle the application forms for entry in September 09 are sent out in late October to be in by December the apparently places confirmed in March it all seems so serious now

speaking of druggies dd has been holding the cough syrup faking a cough at regular intervals and asking for some

ComeOVeneer · 23/09/2008 17:49

I have thiss one. I do Stews, soups, lamb shanks with flagolet beans, chilli, spag bol (well the bol part), thai curry (and other curries), a whole chicken, rice pudding, poached salmon. The list is endless!

Paddlechick666 · 23/09/2008 17:56

blardy hell sfx, do i need to tell the council or will they know to send me an application form?

since reaching 40 i have had a reasonably strong desire to conform in some ways. this is not one of those ways and i am completely not wishing to conform to this!

ps: how the feck am i supposed ot know all this stuff when i can barely get my act together at work!

Kewcumber · 23/09/2008 17:56

paddle won;t DD start same year as DS though - thats not until a 2010? Can't apply until autumn beore.

Kewcumber · 23/09/2008 17:57

I'd quite like one big enough to do chicken/meat in.

sfxmum · 23/09/2008 17:58

do you have a strong desire to conform? actually maybe it is just panic but as 40 looms the mad desire to go off grid seems to grow ever stronger

KC will know if they send you or not but afaik you can downloaded it from website I think you can actually do the whole thing online

OP posts:
Paddlechick666 · 23/09/2008 18:04

ah but i am way past 40 and tbh i veered wildly off the conventional path for much of my pre-40 years lol.

kew, yes dd starts school nursery 2009.

do you mean a whole joint or chicken? the 2 person one is fine for diced meats but not big enough for a whole joint. in fact i don't think the one i have now would do that tbh.

it's a toss up as to perform optimally they need to be at least half full therefore quantities must increase. i'm defrosting a kilo of braising steak at the mo to make the same thing you guys enjoyed in camber.

rosmerta · 23/09/2008 18:06

Thanks Cov, have you had any problems with it? Just reading the reviews & it seems a bit mixed with some saying its burnt their food? Good to know you can do a whole load of other stuff as well.

ComeOVeneer · 23/09/2008 18:08

We do our applications online, or get a form from your first choice school and return it there (with your 3 choices in preferential order) ours have to be in by 15th Oct, offers out sometime in Feb. I have just done them for ds who starts reception in 2009 and dd for yr3 (moving school as she is at a small nfants school in her last year) also next sept. It is a bit of a nightmare as they could be 200m down the road from each other or a 10 minute drive, making school runs a bit of a nightmare. Being chair of PTA doesn't cut me any favours either

ComeOVeneer · 23/09/2008 18:10

My small one would do 2 smallish lamb shanks with a load of carrots, flagolet, tinned toms, onion etc, to feed 2 of us (not a whole chicken intact but perhaps a small on cut into peices0. My new one will fit in a big chicken to feed 4 of us.

slng · 23/09/2008 18:10

cov - when I see your list I think I should use the slow cooker but it's just too slow!

Bunyan where are you? There are people after your slow cooker!

ComeOVeneer · 23/09/2008 18:18

Slng I get it on by 9am then I like the fact that I know that nights supper is already taken care of, so when that hellish time comes around when kids are driving you crazy at least you know you don't have to bother cooking. Plus I can switch it to warm to keep it hot for when dh gets home for the 2 of us to eat. Also it means you can buy cheaper cuts of meat becuse they come out nice and tender when cooked slowly.

ComeOVeneer · 23/09/2008 18:20

Ros. I have just checked as after I posted that link I thought that didn't look right. That was the one I was thinking of getting but went for this one instead.

Paddlechick666 · 23/09/2008 18:26

this is the one i have crockpot and it's just fine. altho i was a bit miffed DM got off with such a cheap birthday pressie!

agree with CoV, you get it on early and dinner sorted later!

was going to prepare my beef casserole tonight and put in fridge overnight before leaving on tomorrow when i went to the office. not sure how that would have worked but now i don't have to find out as dd and i are playing hookey!

ros, i'll be in touch tomorrow if that's okay? dd currently tucking into fish fingers and chips so we'll see how that goes.....

rosmerta · 23/09/2008 18:30

Thanks for the links, will have a look.

Paddle, that's fine.

bunyanvillas · 23/09/2008 18:57

Cripes - handbags at dawn re: the slow cooker OK ladies, I'll leave you to fight amongst yourselves for this one. To be fair it should go to one of the West London posse Just dusted down mine this morning, does this mean that it is now officially Autumn? Kew, left you a message earlier. Hope you're feeling ok.

slng · 23/09/2008 19:31

OK - Bunyan renounces her claim. Who's next in line? I don't know what brand it is. It's big and heavy - I can't get it down from the top cupboard myself .. I should think it's more a 4-person pot than a 2-person pot. It's quite old-fashioned, but it works, or did last time I used it, probably a couple of years ago! When I do slow cooking I put things in the oven or just on the stove on low. So, Kew/Ros, interested?

Kewcumber · 23/09/2008 19:37

given relative family sizes - I think I shoudl take the small from Cov and Ros the big from you. Seems reasonable (not at all sure who would win in a fight at the moment, tough normally I would be odds on favorite)

stepfordwife · 23/09/2008 19:39

..the only way i wish to conform is to be the sterotype of an embarrassing mother

hope all OK
kew, you'll be fairly rattling, eh?

paddle, hope dd rallies - fish fingers and chips consumption a good sign

well, from tomorrow we'll be without an oven for 5 weeks. so any vaguely good, healthy microwave recipes/ideas appreciated.
disclaimer: probably the only time i'll initiate culinary disscussion

brood having great fun pretending to be banksy on the walls downstairs after strict instructions it was a one-off, one-night, one-wall extravaganza only...
no, i don't think dd understood for a moment either...going to regret it, aren't i? (fool)

quite enjoying the little bedsit-style kitchen (ette) i've set up in the hallway..makes me feel like a student again

stepfordwife · 23/09/2008 19:40

fight fight fight
