Hello

OP posts:
rosmerta · 26/08/2008 17:22

For those of you who might not know, I found out yesterday that dcs will get their free learning place the term after their 3rd birthday. Info here. Apologies if you already know, I only found out by accident as I thought it only applied the September after their 3rd birthday.

sfxmum · 26/08/2008 17:32

thanks ros I just don't know how to apply for it I now dd's nursery is eligible but I guess will have to enquire further

rosmerta · 26/08/2008 17:38

According to the website you can ring your Child Information Services & they can help.

sfxmum · 26/08/2008 17:51

thanks Ros I have a feeling I will be a little more clear headed tomorrow

slng · 26/08/2008 17:59

sfx - we didn't have to do anything about the free place thing. The nursery just deducted the fees for those hours.

mellow2 · 26/08/2008 18:03

Thanks ros.

SJ99 · 26/08/2008 19:06

Sfx - no worries, we are destined never to meet again as DS will go on Tues & Fri
Anyway invite is there if anyone else does want to meet up

Mellow - what have you been baking?
Re: hospital I'm sure it's not as cut & dry as they made out. I think they were just trying to make a point that once you've decided on your type of birth then it's best to stick with it so that you can psyche yourself up for it & they can prepare for it too, which is no bad thing

DS has been parrot spotting in next door's garden. I do wonder why I travelled all the way to S. America to see parrots and other exotic wildlife when they are here on my doorstep

bunyanvillas · 26/08/2008 19:22

SFX Re: free place thingy - dd's nursery did it all for us (we had to bring in a copy of dd's birth certificate) and deducted it from the fees. So hopefully your nursery will be the same and it will be seamless. Gosh, will struggle to remember who is around on what day now! dd starts her nursery end-Sept and will be 5 days a week! But only 2.5 hours each day from lunch until mid-afternoon. Odd time - it works for us on many levels and means we'll be around mornings until 11.30. Cripes, will be hard to keep up with friends, am ever so slightly dreading the winter

SJ, am surprised hospital are pushing you to make a concrete decision now. I have a friend who gave birth at Kingston at around the same time ds was born and she was umming and ahhing about CS vs VBAC right up to the very end so I don't understand why they are insisting on a decision so early on? We might be around Thurs morning, depending on dh wants to do. Will text you if yes and would imagine it would be me and just one of the dcs.

Think Thomas days are over for the summer now. Might head to New Forest tomorrow or coast depending on weather/state of play here. Checked out Dukes Meadows today, would be nice to go back in decent weather although dd ended up in the paddling pool regardless!

SJ99 · 26/08/2008 19:38

Hi Bunyan - pity about Thomas, you could also try Drusillas (sp?) they have a big Thomas thing going on. Yes just let me know on Thurs if you can make it, would be nice to catch up Enjoy the New Forest or coast

Hospital are not pushing me to make any decisions yet, they just gave me all the info today and next time I will see them I'll be 32wks so they said if I'd reached a decision by then we could discuss and make plans. If not, then I can just make another appointment with consultant.
If I do want to have c-s then I think I'd much rather have the date confirmed by then anyway as it will take away a lot of the worry but that's just me, it's such a personal thing. Maybe they have lots of ladies due in Nov so they're trying to get organised, who knows?

rosmerta · 26/08/2008 19:42

bunyan, I'd say if ds is doing well (& it sounds like he is) then there's probably no need for the book. Don't want to mess it up now! We're also fans of Duke's Meadow but only in nice weather!

Sj, we might be around Thurs am, will let you know if that's ok? All depends if I can get the car or not (otherwise 2/3 buses & a long walk!)

SJ99 · 26/08/2008 19:47

That's fine Ros. You can get buses/train from Kew or Richmond if that helps, but can understand it's easier to come by car!

sfxmum · 26/08/2008 19:51

not having people around to meet up during winter worries me too, not too good with winter and need to get out and meet people.
at first dd will only be at nursery we&thu am

bunyanvillas · 26/08/2008 20:00

Totally with you on that one, SFX. Oh well, will have to see how it all pans out. I predict that I will be doing A LOT of baking! Ros, I don't know whether I need the book or not! Might do. He is doing well with no dummy for daytime sleeps and has done two bedtimes without it. BUT Fri night and tonight were a different story! I caved in both times. Not good at seeing him in a state. Still, I feel we are on track so will continue as is and hopefully eventually we will get there.

OP posts:
SJ99 · 26/08/2008 20:24

IKWYM, I'm wondering how I'll get out of the house with 2 never mind that it will be winter!

rosmerta · 26/08/2008 21:23

sj, ikwym, am guessing I'll be at Lollipop & Kidzone quite a bit! Btw, what would be the nearest train station to you? I had quick look and thought it was Hampton Wick which is then quite a walk to yours. But is there one closer?

sfxmum · 26/08/2008 21:31

yes I expect that will be an issue SJ&Ros

I find the worst time for me is from the hr change until Christmas. somehow by January it gets easier

thanks for all the info on nursery stuff. dd took ages to get to sleep tonight but thankfully she mostly wanted daddy around.

dh want to take her/us to nursery tomorrow bless

mellow2 · 27/08/2008 08:19

SJ - I baked a loaf of white bread successfully and then got really ambitious and baked some croissants, not as successfully, but they are stil edible. I think I'm going to try my hand at paratha next. Do you have a paratha recipe?

Sfx - Thanks for inspiring me. I'm going to be making my own bread from now on.

Ros,

Would you like a lift to SJ's tomorrow? I'm always happy to give you a lift.

The only problem is car seats and we have a small car. Is ds's car seat easily transferable?

mellow2 · 27/08/2008 08:20

And just to show how anal I am, I'm going to put together a timetable of when DCs go to nursery so I know who's around when.

sfxmum · 27/08/2008 08:24

good morning all

mellow that is great and yum yum

good idea about timetable I can't rely on my memory for that sort of thing these days

btw steppie how is your dh?
was reminded of his troubles last night when dh was complaining about his

think will have a go at roti sometime this week probably on friday

rosmerta · 27/08/2008 08:32

sfx, good luck with the nursery today

sfxmum · 27/08/2008 08:40

thanks ros think dh wants to come along too

PaddlePig · 27/08/2008 08:41

good luck today SFX, let us know how it goes.

SJ99 · 27/08/2008 08:52

Sfx - that's sweet DH wants to go with you, hope all goes well

Mellow - great news about the baking and well done in advance for being so organised finding out when everyone's free!
I probably do havea paratha recipe somewhere I'll have a look, it's not something I've ever made, my mum makes it a few times a year as a treat

Ros - We're inbetween Hampton Wick and Teddington, about 15min walk from either so whichever is easiest. Or you can get 281 from Twicks.

SJ99 · 27/08/2008 08:58

I woke up dreaming of carrot cake, guess what I'll be making today?

Kewcumber · 27/08/2008 09:41

Good luck SFX.

This getting up early in the morning and going to work is over-rated.
