Hello

OP posts:
SJ99 · 27/08/2008 18:59

Slng - if you've got leftover courgette scroll down for courgette cookie recipe. Sounds horrible but were surprisingly tasty. I only used half choc qty though as I thought it was a lot.

mellow2 · 27/08/2008 19:05

sfx,
Meant to say earlier that I'm glad everything went well. Mini sfx is such a confident child. One would not expect otherwise.

I'm afraid I don't actually have the last green beaded bag. I thought I did. But I have a red one. It's redder/browner than the picture suggest. Let me know if you are interested. I can bring this round on Friday.

sillybigsausage · 27/08/2008 19:06

Hiya - you lot talking recipes AGAIN???? ...makes me feel very inadequate (I'm less of a cook, more of a "warmer upper")

I'm off work on Friday but have already arranged to go round for a cuppa with the two (now elderly) gay guys who bought my parents house in Kew 28 years ago!! i.e. the house we grew up in . They promised I can nose around the house - although they have allegedly converted my old bedroom into a huge shower room (how very dare they?)

Then taking DD, S1 and DS1's bestie (or rather beastie) friend swimming at "my health club" all arvo

Cannot believe I just paid £19 for DD's hair cut - SFX how much did they chage you for your DD??

They normally charge me £15 (wich is too much anyway) Hairdresser said they charge £15 for boys and £19 for girls

Next time we are deffo going to LOOP in Ealing, who only charge £8...

sillybigsausage · 27/08/2008 19:08

Hi Mellow [waves] - haven't seen you for absolutely ages! How is the business going?

sfxmum · 27/08/2008 19:19

SJ/Mellow would be great to see you both and anyone else
the weather seems be very hot that day so maybe picnic?
mellow that is a nice one think I remember the actual colour

regarding nursery tomorrow she will be left alone so we will see, but the what I saw of the the interaction between staff and children was very reassuring

SBS they charged me £15, might have been because dd refused blow dry

rosmerta · 27/08/2008 19:23

sbs at hairdresser prices!

thanks Mellow for sling

sfx, nice eclectic mix of books! I've just started an Agatha Christie biography, very interesting, alongside my course books.
Reminds me I've still got your vampire hunter books, and paddle I've still got a couple of your Heinlein's.

I have just started meal planning, started small with planning 2 meals a week, will work my way up! Today we had a red lentil and vegetable curry which ds wolfed down.

slng · 27/08/2008 19:44

Paddle - are you dissing my fish fingers in curry sauce? It's a lovely Madhur Jaffrey curry sauce, more like sweet and sour than curry. (I can detect turning up of noses at sweet-and-sour fish fingers now ...) And don't remind me that that Madhur Jaffrey book is not mine.

bunyanvillas · 27/08/2008 19:54

Ros, a red lentil and veggie curry sounds YUM! Well done on the old meal planning. Boring but it does help, I hate that feeling I get at 4pm when staring blankly into the fridge and wondering .... Which Madhur Jaffrey book do people have as I have a Waterstones voucher and was wondering about purchasing one. I can't believe how many cookery books I have amassed since having children!

SJ - sorry but I don't think we'll be around tomorrow, might try and get to the seaside for the day. Today was amusing. Headed down the M3 thinking "ahhh .. let's see where we'll end up.". Well. We ended up at Lightwater for an an emergency ds feed in some country park! It was nice actually! Will try and get a bit further tomorrow.

dd and I will be around on Friday if anyone is meeting up?

SFX, sounds as though nursery is going well

Sausage, it is shocking how much hairdressers charge even for small people.

OP posts:
slng · 27/08/2008 20:08

DSs haircuts are free! We do them at home, mainly because they scream at hairdressers'.

My nearest hairdresser charged me £11 for dry cut. I thought that was a good rate.

Bunyan - I have Madhur Jaffrey's "Invitation to Indian Cooking". I also have quite a few cookbooks, but they are the best ones, even if I say so myself Having said that, must ditch Annabel Karmel. Next trip to charity shop where it came from.

Kewcumber · 27/08/2008 21:10

so I'm the only one who thinks that sweet and sour fish fingers sound quite nice then (espeically if someone else is cooking them). DS's buzz cut was £10.

bunyanvillas · 27/08/2008 21:12

I think sweet /n sour fishfingers sounds good! Tenner for a haircut (boys) still wee bit pricey, no? I think I am just OLD! Annabel Karmel I am going off rapidly.

OP posts:
rosmerta · 27/08/2008 21:17

I like the sound of s/s fish fingers! Slng, looks like you'll have to post the recipe!

Bunyan, ikwym about Annabel Karmel, just seems quite fussy now. All the recipes say you have to skin & deseed the tomatoes . Ds mainly has what we have now, so much easier.

sfxmum · 27/08/2008 21:26

I think AK is good for purees
I use some old vegetarian cookbooks Australian women weekly, Linda McCartney Cranks, Robert Carrier etc
also love old Elisabeth David books they are mostly interesting stories
also the family cookbook of the River Cottage and some Nigella stuff

my sister is very fond of Jamie Oliver books too
might get a couple more if I find them in charity shops

SJ99 · 27/08/2008 21:29

£7 in Twicks for a good boys cut. I used to cut DS hair but it was always such a nightmare getting him to stay still. Ever since he went to hairdressers I've never looked back. They do a good, quick job, no wonky cuts!

No worries Bunyan, enjoy seaside . Maybe see you Fri instead if we can make it to picnic?

SJ99 · 27/08/2008 21:33

I love Jamie's books too, plus can't go wrong with original Delia

sillybigsausage · 27/08/2008 21:48

Slng - fish fingers in curry sauce - two of the nicest foods on the planet - what is there not to like?

SFX/Bunyan - DD' hair is just cut in a striaght line around her neck, which is what made the price soooo painful

Bunyan R U ging to Brighton tomorow? takes 1hr 15 mins from Richmond (cheap parking in Hove 80p for 24 hrs)

LOL at your day out, feeding DS in park - sounds nice and chilled though

Saturday is set to be a real scorcher (will beleive it when I see it) - perhaps we should head down to Brighton beach eh?

Ros - I'm addicted to Rose Tremaine atm - what a great writer

PaddlePig · 27/08/2008 21:55

i think i'd like sweet n sour fish fingers.

been training, was fantastic to be back in a boat. didn't disgrace myself but think i will struggle to lift a coffee cup tomorrow!

not sure if i can really work it into a regular thing tho. Didn't get off the water till 9pm then have to shower/get home/eat etc. also feel a bit guilty that DM will be home alone every evening she is here.......

ho hum, off to have some garlic/cheese bread with basil and tomatoe soup with stilton crumbled in.

and a glass of vino, I've earned it!

bunyanvillas · 27/08/2008 22:04

Sausage, I don't know - maybe Bournemouth? Will see what the morning brings. Yes, I'll probably be on Mumsnet in my dressing gown circa 11am Let's see. Night, all! (Oh, I did so love The Waltons, best TV show in the world ever )

OP posts:
PaddlePig · 27/08/2008 22:10

Bum, I have to go collect dd on Saturday!

Plus I am hosting Taco night at chez Paddle Saturday night.

Could be up for a Brighton jaunt on Sunday tho.........

I am resisting getting dd's hair cut, it's just too gorgeous and crazy to cut.

Bunyan, hope you have a great day out tomorrow.

Susie, the wellies are yours. Will have to get together soon.

SJ99 · 27/08/2008 22:20

Paddle - Noooo don't cut DD's hair, it's gorgeous! Glad you enjoyed the paddling, enjoy the vino even more

Would be up for seaside jaunt! Just realised that DH is away cycling to Cantebury so have made no plans

Bunyan - Waltons was great wasn't it? Good night all

sfxmum · 27/08/2008 22:28

btw Ros is your dh still running the Marathon? how goes the training?

Bunyan take it easy and enjoy sounds great

paddle well done you, BUT DON'T CUT DD'S HAIR

hope everyone has a good night am tired

susiecutiebananas · 27/08/2008 23:54

Glad you got back on the water Paddle. I'm very I'd love to get back in a canoe. I live near enough to a few clubs but could never afford it now, or get the regular time to do it, would feel unable to ask mum so regularly.. she's so busy with church stuff in the evenings these days.

really want to get back to a watercolour or drawing class though. Loved it. Maybe even a life drawing class

THanks for all suggestions and advice on cooking! just need to get motivated I think. Still, I did my online shop just now, and managed to get £13 off using a coupon from here Its never failed me this site. Sometimes you have to put in a few before you find one that works. They have codes for most supermarkets but tesco is the most up to date and seems most coupons too.

SFX, SJ, Mellow, I'd really like to meet up friday ( & anyone who's around). Picnic would be good idea too. ahem... kew gardens maybe? seriously, anywhere would be lovely. If weather not great, open to all suggestions. Just feel so sad for izzy sometimes. She has such a boring life when my back is bad. perhaps you could txt me SFX, as i'm not sure i'll get online tomorrow...

mellow2 · 28/08/2008 08:40

Hello sillysausage
Shop has been really quiet for a few weeks but things are picking up now that people are back from holidays. Shame you're busy on Friday. I haven't seen you in ages.

Paddle,
Good that you're training again. It's great to do something physical, isn't it? Yoga really lifts my spirits when I'm feeling down. It does not compare to your paddling but it does the trick for me.

I'm getting really excited about our trip to Italy next week. We haven't been since we had dd. Only 5 days more to go!!

mellow2 · 28/08/2008 08:43

Susie,
Do come and join us. It would be nice to meet you finally.

rosmerta · 28/08/2008 08:54

sbs, haven't read any Rose Tremain, will have a look in the library!

Cookbooks, Tana Ramsay is my new favourite for family meals, Nigella for cakes, otherwise I tend to look on websites like BBC for ideas.

Sj, I've got directions to yours, provided I don't get horrendously lost we should be with you 10-10.30 if that's ok.

Paddle, you have to leave dd's hair alone! I'm resisting getting ds's cut atm but think it will have to be done this weekend

Speaking of which, I'd be up for a trip to Brighton on Saturday! Nephew's coming over for the weekend & we can't find anything that will simultaneously entertain a 2.5yr old & a 12 yr old!
