Hello

OP posts:
mellow2 · 28/08/2008 09:00

Sillysausage - £19 seems quite dear. I only pay £26 for my haircut. Dd's haircuts cost £12 and I thought that was a lot.

PaddlePig · 28/08/2008 09:58

I have a sore bottom today! I knew I should've worn my paddle shorts instead of boardies. Lower back, shoulders, arms and legs are a little stiff but not as bad as expected.

It was a great feeling to be back in the boat. I am left with mixed emotions tho as it reminds me of what I am missing

Am really turning over options in my mind at present with no sight of a solution or direction.

Considering taking a small loan and refitting kitchen entirely. Will then be a bit po-faced about moving when I have a lovely new kitchen. Moving will also mean virtually no chance of paddling regularly.

Staying will mean tolerating neighbours, enjoying new kitchen, being able to paddle 2 or 3 times per month. OTOH it will mean no garden, no close family support (babysitting and sickness minding etc), DM having to continue making a long journey, dd going to an okay school but not as good as the one she would go to if I move.

ho hum ho hum ho hum.

forgive my vague ramblings, am using MN to get thoughts straight!

sfxmum · 28/08/2008 13:21

good afternoon all

sushi your boy was settling in fine in pre school this morning

paddle I expect whichever decision will never be perfect and it is really just about finding a balance

susie will give you a bell tomorrow then

we will be ready whenever you want us to go, also anyone around on Saturday? dh working so we are free agents

I left dd for the first time she was fine after asking me not to go, by the time I arrived she did not want to leave
at circle/ song time before lunch she told them they were singing the ABC song wrong so she went to the middle and sang her versionblush]
not shy

Kewcumber · 28/08/2008 13:30

on the other hand Paddle things like babysitting will become much easier as she becomes old enough to do sleepovers and you make new friends via school. I know a lot of my sisters current frinds are from kids primary school still!

SushiMummy · 28/08/2008 13:45

Afternoon all.

Paddle - a few years ago, DH and I nearly went back to Japan as DH wasn't too happy with his job and missing his friends in Japan too much but I'm glad we didn't. DH found another job and things got better for us.

sfx - glad to hear your DD was settling in well. Was my DS in pre-school already? It's supposed to be from next week. Well, maybe he invited himself there as always.

QC - yes, some size 7 shoes/wellies to give away here.

sfxmum · 28/08/2008 13:48

sushi I got there at 10 and I got the impression that 3-4 children from his group had just been brought over, he seemed shy at first clang to E and A but only lasted 5 mins or so by time I left he was riding a bike

Kewcumber · 28/08/2008 13:49

Oh goody - come for tea!

When we're single its easy to imagine escaping from a situation we don't like by giving up our job and doing something completely different even though we rarely do it. Much harder when a child is involved and sometimes I wonder if the lack of the idea of an escape route brings it into sharper focus.

I speak as one who spent my first day back in work on the internet working out what I could afford in Brighton without a mortgage...

sfxmum · 28/08/2008 13:49

sushi it was just for the morning then back to his old room after lunch

SushiMummy · 28/08/2008 13:57

sfx - thanks for the info. Glad both our LOs are doing fine there. Tbh, I can't wait for DS to start preschool, no nap = early night for us! Yay!

QC - we might pop over this weekend if you are around and have a nose around in your area (esp the six bed house).

rosmerta · 28/08/2008 13:58

sj, thanks for this morning. Sorry we didn't stay for lunch but ds was definitely getting tired & I didn't want him falling asleep in the car!

paddle, afraid I don't have any advice for you. We're weighing up our options atm and keep varying between moving a bit further down the M3 but staying within the M25, moving back up north or moving abroad! Just can't make our minds up.

kew think you're right, its definitely because of ds that we're being a bit more cautious with what we decide!

sbs, when you were talking about getting to Brighton from Richmond, was that driving or on the train?

Kewcumber · 28/08/2008 14:03

brighton is easy by car or train but parking is a nightmare unless you go NCP.

PaddlePig · 28/08/2008 14:07

Depending on the weather on Sunday then we will either go swimming or have a little run down to Brighton with my houseguest.

Thanks for the advice/perspectives. I am leaning towards staying in London at the mo but that might be because I am being seduced at the thought of a new kitchen to my own design!

Ros, I'd absolutely love to move O/S but don't feel able to as a SP with elderly parents.

SushiMummy · 28/08/2008 15:08

QC - so what's the answer re moving to Brighton without mortgage, then?

Kewcumber · 28/08/2008 15:15

nice 3 bed ground floor flat near the sea and reasonable primary school... but no family support, no good secondary (liek here I guess!) and much lower paid jobs and far less ethnic diversity for DS. The last problem in all honesty trumps all the others.

Am thinking of retiring down there! Nothing like planning ahead.

Kewcumber · 28/08/2008 15:15

and when I said "when you're singel" I of course meant when you're childless

SushiMummy · 28/08/2008 15:20

I can't think anywhere better than London to raise a mixed race child.

My dream is to retire in Hawaii.

Kewcumber · 28/08/2008 15:22

what a cracking idea - I'll come with you...

PaddlePig · 28/08/2008 15:29

Bloody hell, so will I! I honeymooned on Maui. Home of my sport too.

SushiMummy · 28/08/2008 15:32

I love Maui! What a great island to honeymoon! We nearly got married there (Oahu).

PaddlePig · 28/08/2008 15:38

We stayed on the north side of the island and loved it.

Got married in Cornwall which is probably the closest you could get to Maui I suppose.

Brings back some memories!

I have teh world's most boring report to read adn I have been avoiding it all day.

HUFF!

sfxmum · 28/08/2008 15:39

who is moving to Hawaii? an I come for a visit please?

I still love London feel too foreign anywhere else

SJ99 · 28/08/2008 16:04

Hello all

Ros/Mellow - thanks for coming over earlier, really nice to see you both

Paddle - The only advice I have is that it's never going to be perfect where you live, as long as the positives outweigh the negatives then you're onto a winner. If all else fails, I guess there is Hawaii

PaddlePig · 28/08/2008 16:11

sj, sfx I have just emailed you.

There's always my campervan too - that's still on the cards!

SJ99 · 28/08/2008 16:28

Thanks for email, wish I could do it too

LOL at mini-sfx and song, glad she's enjoying it

DS has asked me to go to the shop and buy a potty for the toilet like mini Mellow's

Kewcumber · 28/08/2008 16:37
