New thread for August.

OP posts:
sfxmum · 13/08/2008 19:47

SJ I seem to recall it was Argos for blackout blinds

re domestic goddess I am indeed a goddess just not a very domestic one

sfxmum · 13/08/2008 20:02

btw I wanted to see Leonard Cohen in November despite it being at the O2
any advice regarding seating? TIA

bunyanvillas · 13/08/2008 20:11

Steppie - LOL at cut and blow job!!!!

SJ - I got dd's black-out blind in John Lewis. We had a lovely one in our old house with farmyard animals on, and we now have a plain (pink, of COURSE) one - but you can get them anywhere, I'm sure I've seen them in Homebase etc. OR you can also get black-out linings for curtains which are also effective. I got some black-out linings from aspace for what will be ds's room and am pleased with them, although were we to stay here, would probably get a blind too. Re: the IKEA blind - if it is too big can you not just cut it?

Paddle - unimpressed with your facebook status - you're going on holiday so moaning is not permitted! Not at all jealous here

SFX - how are the plans for the big girl bedroom/bed going?

Re: easy reading, how about Deborah Moggach or Ann Tyler or Margaret Forster? All easy reading but at the same time terrific writing.

bunyanvillas · 13/08/2008 20:13

SFX, ahhhh Leonard Cohen. Brings back memories also of the Cocteau Twins, anyone remember?

ComeOVeneer · 13/08/2008 20:40

Evening all.

We got our black out blinds from argos, ordered online, stereotypicaly pink for dd and blue for ds plus extra long ones and standard for the windows and doors in the playroom (doubles as an extra spare room).

Most amusing slip ther steppie

Well things really aren't going according to plan here in the COV household. Both ds and dd are now ill with some sort of earache/headache/tummy ache virus with a rash thrown in so back at the doctors again today (2nd visit in as many days). Both are now fast asleep courteousy of Phenegan. Hopefully will be ok for France on Saturday. Seing as the Phenergan works would it we awful of me to "drug" them on the journey for a bit of peace?

Sorry to have missed you Quoa, pleased you are enjoying your new job. Hopefully we can all arrange something when you are over around xmas.

Bunyan, sorry about the teething troubles, hope it is relatively shortlived.

bunyanvillas · 13/08/2008 20:44

Oh dear, Cov. Hopefully all ailments will be done and dusted by Saturday. You'll certainly be ready for a holiday, no doubt! Re: ds - well, I just feel so sorry for him, he's normally such a happy little thing. It's horrid to see them in such distress. Yesterday was an interesting morning, me jiggling him/rocking him etc - whilst attempting to make a boat out of a margarine tub for dd in the local library.

SJ99 · 13/08/2008 20:59

Thanks for tips on blinds, will check them out. Problem with Ikea blind is that is not quite wide enough and DH bought the largest size

COV - sorry to hear about illnesses, hope for quick recovery before your trip

Sfx - never been to O2 but hope you get tickets I want to see the Kooks and they recently announced they're going to play in Nov & Dec, how unfair is that??!

SJ99 · 13/08/2008 21:00

LOL Bunyan you deserve a job on Blue Peter!

ComeOVeneer · 13/08/2008 21:03

Thanks for the sympathy. TBH ds seems fine apart from the rash, dd is moaning about everything hurting and rash itching but she is rather a drama queen. I was concerned with both of them having a rash it was something horribly contagious and would wreck the holiday, but gp conviced otherwise.

So what is the general consenus on the drugging for the journey then?

rosmerta · 13/08/2008 21:11

Cov, glad they're ok. I'd say go with the drugging

Sj, another vote for John Lewis blinds here

bunyanvillas · 13/08/2008 21:14

Hmm .. I don't know about drugging. What would Esther Rantzen say?

sfxmum · 13/08/2008 21:15

bunyan yes of course I remember the Cocteau Twins and all that lot from 4AD do you think I am some sort of spring chicken or summat

room plans going ok have had most things for months just waiting for the carpets to be cleaned I expect there were other subtle psychological issues at play, but nevemind should be done by the weekend

COV hope illnesses are short lived

SJ it is always the way, I would go just up to the end of EDD not much time for it afterwards

bunyanvillas · 13/08/2008 21:19

SJ, yes. You will never go out again.

No. Only joking Really

rosmerta · 13/08/2008 21:20

bunyan, meant to say I am around next Thurs am if you want to try & meet up again!

bunyanvillas · 13/08/2008 21:27

Hi Ros, will stick it in the calendar and let's see what happens!

Kewcumber · 13/08/2008 23:07

sfxmum · 14/08/2008 09:10

good morning people lovely and sunny isn't it? will it last?

slng · 14/08/2008 09:20

Good morning!

I'm filling in an appraisal form (the most fun you can have on a sunny morning). I need suggestions of nice sounding words to say "I don't want to work too hard". Can anyone help?

rosmerta · 14/08/2008 09:24

sfx, probably not

slng, sorry no help here. Appraisal forms were the bane of my working life, am so glad don't have them any more!

Must get out this morning while we can!

sfxmum · 14/08/2008 09:53

oh slng appraisal forms once a year for 15 staff
is that your impute on your own appraisal?

if so you could say you are happy with the current level of commitment/ workload and you feel t allows you to provide high quality work while still being stimulating - or some such nonsense

ros enjoy it may be a while before we go out and by then we will probably need wellies

PaddlePig · 14/08/2008 10:22

just found out the funds for my promotion have been siphoned off.

manager seems to think it will be okay but i have no confidence. i think they are trying to soften me up for a proposal along the lines of getting the grade and the benefits but not the pay rise.

i have just become even less motivated than i was.

sfxmum · 14/08/2008 10:26

that is vexing Paddle on your behalf

time to start looking elsewhere?

slng · 14/08/2008 10:29

sfx - you are a star! I shall put that down in the form! Thank you!!!

sfxmum · 14/08/2008 12:56

think dd is bored poor kid I have a head ache and not so keen on going out atm

rosmerta · 14/08/2008 13:36

paddle, agree with sfx, maybe time to look elsewhere.

Have made it to the park this morning, nice to see the cafe open so I could at least have a cup of tea while ds played!

Am now just catching up on the mens gymnastics!
