New thread for August.

hey quokka! how are ya darl?

mellow, yep Air Italia. will keep investigating but doubt i will do any better due to needing/wanting to fly from heathrow.

PaddlePig · 13/08/2008 16:30

we don't, well I don't! I just do everything spectacularly badly and nothing particularly well.

quokka · 13/08/2008 16:31

hey paddle how are you - going on holiday again!!??

quokka · 13/08/2008 16:36

I think I'm going through a real guilty stage, my excellent helper (yes maid) is taking ds2 to gym etc and doing the fun stuff that I would normally do and when I say goodbye to ds1 he says "make sure you get home by the morning mummy!"

sfxmum · 13/08/2008 16:36

that sounds great quokka no advice on the working mum front expect one muddles through as these things go

PaddlePig · 13/08/2008 16:36

yep! off to camber with some of this lot next week.

i live for holidays!

when are you back over this way?

quokka · 13/08/2008 16:41

planning to be back for xmas - 14th Dec (will be in Brighton) but will come to London 30th? Then the kids and I are staying till 10th Jan I think - so would love to go to Kew and have a catch up and see how much all your lo's have grown

PaddlePig · 13/08/2008 16:41

yeh it must be a lot trickier for you because your hours are going to be pretty random i guess.

all's you can do is spend "good" time with them when you've got it mate.

mellow2 · 13/08/2008 16:42

I try to confine dd's clutter to her room but it's a constant battle.

Steppie,
I've resigned myself to the fact that I'll never be the supermom/domestic goddess that I want to be. It's a struggle just to get the flat clean-ish and not have dd watching tv 8 hours a day.

OP posts:
quokka · 13/08/2008 16:43

mellow did you go see the nursery?

mellow2 · 13/08/2008 16:46

Quokka,
It's a tough balancing act. I practically work non-stop when I'm on a contract and "try" to make up for it when I'm not working.

It would be nice to catch up at Christmas if we're around. Not sure if we're going back to Malaysia for the New Year.

OP posts:
mellow2 · 13/08/2008 16:47

No, I didn't because I was looking for a nursery school and I didn't realise the distinction between day care nurseries and nursery schools until I looked into it.

Actually, I'm still quite hazy about the whole British education system and I'm just muddling my way through it.

right its the witching hour - must try to sleep ds2 will be barging in far too early in the morning i expect! Take care guys

rosmerta · 13/08/2008 16:50

nice to see you quokka, glad things are going well!

sfx, ds did nap eventually, but we've had a slobbing around afternoon as well. Haven't even done any baking!

quokka · 13/08/2008 16:54

mellow they accommodate that I'm sure, I think the gov pay for some of it and you pay the remainder?? I love the Australian school Kevin Rudd came to open the new pre school yesterday! dh said I don't want him photographed or filmed it might end up on the bbc and then people will think he's Australian ! Mind you the fees are HUGE and we aren't on an expat contract - I think we are one of the few families who have to pay school fees rather then the employer!

quokka · 13/08/2008 16:55

hi rosmerta - fading now so am going to bed

bunyanvillas · 13/08/2008 16:57

DS is teething. He is teething with a captal T. Wah!!!! Sorry - just popping in for a quick moan! Hope you are all ok. Will be back on soon (I hope) for some proper chat

mellow2 · 13/08/2008 16:59

Quokka,

Ok, I'll arrange a visit to Park Place find out more.

Dh and I are considering moving to Malaysia for a few years and letting dd go to an international school there that has a good rep. But the registration fees are £3,000 alone.

Good night. Speak soon.

Bunyan,
Sorry to hear ds is suffering. Hope his tooth/teeth will come through soon.

OP posts:
stepfordwife · 13/08/2008 17:17

hello quokka
lovely to hear from you

well, back from the library and dodging the rain
all in a much better mood now

the domestic goddess doesn't exist...it's all a myth. i tell ya..

lol at orgasms/organism..
in ds1's homework recently he wrote virgin all the way through instead of version

forgive me if i've already told you this, but my worst faux pas, which ex workmates have never let me forget, is phoning up from work to make a hair apptment and chirpily asking for a "cut and blow job."

sfxmum · 13/08/2008 17:19

was it gender confusion or offer of services?

bunyan sorry about the gruesome teething hope they come fast

stepfordwife · 13/08/2008 17:22

bunyan - sympathy on ds' teething. hard on everyone, isn't it?
sausage.. good luck for your presentation this evening. bet you'll be fab.

stepfordwife · 13/08/2008 17:23

i'm not sure, sfx

SJ99 · 13/08/2008 18:51

Bunyan - Hugs for DS and you during teething phase, hang in there

Mellow - your vacuum bags sound like something I need, where do you buy them from? We are trying to get the place organised and start as we mean to go on. Trying to keep DS toys mainly in his room. We emptied all boxes in garage today, will tackle upstairs over next few days.

DS tantrumtastic today, he's so exicted about the move but then every so often his tiredness will blow him away, had to handle carefully. Going for an early night myself.

Steppie I like Nick Hornby for an easy, quick, funny read. With all these early nights I don't seem to read as much anymore

SJ99 · 13/08/2008 18:55

BTW someone posted about black out blinds a while back and where to get them from....?

The Ikea ones DH bought yesterday don't fit the window so will try & buy from elsewhere. Interim measure I'll be adopting your idea KC of the foil gift wrap!
