For when the other thread runs out today!

OP posts:
sfxmum · 28/07/2008 13:18

and on the subject of scaring myself silly has anyone heard talk of one of the big banks going under?

best go to shops and get cake or at least chocolate

rosmerta · 28/07/2008 13:19

sfx, not heard anything like that , any idea which one?

Kewcumber · 28/07/2008 13:22

have heard talk of Alliance and Leicester in toruble but likely they will be taken over.

sfxmum · 28/07/2008 13:22

I think newsnight are doing a piece this week
bit worried as their guy broke the Northern rock thing
no idea which one

MrsRecycle · 28/07/2008 13:23

18th August KC - won't you be somewhere else then????

not heard about the bank sfx

Kewcumber · 28/07/2008 13:24

bollocks meant week of 11th August!

MrsRecycle · 28/07/2008 13:26

don't worry i'll be your social pa!

SushiMummy · 28/07/2008 13:38

Afternoon all. Hope you are all coping in this hot, hot, hot weather.

Hi Susie! I live in Kew and have a 2y 9m DS.

It was lovely to see some of you on Friday. Thanks for arranging, QC.

MrsR - shocking news, hope your DSis and Dniece are OK. Was quite surprised it was a woman (I know, it's sexism, however...).

mellow2 · 28/07/2008 14:29

It really is far too hot to do anything. [lazy emoticon]

I'm glad I did some food shopping this morning when it was slightly cooler or we would starve.

Sorry party girl. I misread your post and thought you were home this week.

Anyway, let me know when it would be a good time to return your books.

Similarly sfx,
Can you let me what would be a a good day/time to drop off your books?

OP posts:
sfxmum · 28/07/2008 14:34

the bank stuff I was on about here

mellow anytime I don't have firm plans for this week

have done some shopping for fresh stuff and ice cream will just hang around home today reading etc.

Kewcumber · 28/07/2008 14:37

that article is talking about the likelihood that a major abnk may need capitla and not be able to raise it in the current climate. Most likely would result in a cut price takeover (as with HBOS and A&L) but unlikely to affect customers significantly. Not sure I'd be buying bank shares just now though...

mellow2 · 28/07/2008 14:38

MrsR,

That is indeed shocking news. Is your sister going to press charges?

OP posts:
sfxmum · 28/07/2008 14:41

so not stuffing notes in mattress time then?

will read more and watch report I think

Kewcumber · 28/07/2008 14:44

Can't beleive govt can allow a mjor bank to go bust plus liquidity rules mean that no major bank is going to be completely broke - liquidity problems more likely.

MrsRecycle · 28/07/2008 14:44

thanks for your wishes on my ds - yes you wouldn't expect it to be another woman would you. I hope she is going to press charges but she is really scared of her and what she'll do to her family. But she's gone to the docs this morning to get it registered on her medical file.

re' the banks - I was thinking the other day how they haven't done themselves any favours by not cutting their rates when BoE does. No wonder new mortgages are at an all time low.

Kewcumber · 28/07/2008 14:46

apparently a few of the bigger company (Woolwich recently) have started cutting their mortgages rates - some analysts think it means mortgages rates have peaked though as BofE can't cut rates they're unlikely to drop much for a while.

And of course if I could predict what interest rates were going to do I wouldn;t be moaning that I'm skint but would, as we speak, be living it up on the Riviera.

susiecutiebananas · 28/07/2008 14:47

Gosh Mrs R- that sounds so horrible. Must be so upsetting too, as she's lost that friend now. They must have known each other well enough to have gone away. So sad really, to find out someone is not what you thought. I hope she will be ok, especially her DD.

KC- not sure about friday this week, usually a really good day though for me. We're off early saturday so i think i'll be packing. DH might be home too. ( believe it when I see it )

Paddlechick- I would be 2 paces ahead of you, or to your side, in the uppig sticks and going to Cornwall. I think I'll try to go again this summer, maybe with tent... or early september when schools are back and more room on Porthcurnow or Sennen beach! I can't wait... Thanks also for offer of ear - I could do with it at the moment.

Rosmerta and Sfx ( or anyone else of course) - maybe we could meet on wednesday? I don't mind driving, but not too far, only as i've only just started again. THe 1 O'clock club was pretty good as catered for all ages... maybe either of you have better idea of where we might meet. Don't worry if you can't though, of course.

Kewcumber · 28/07/2008 14:50

no worries Susie - we can catch up when you're back.

Paddlechick666 · 28/07/2008 14:57

i am so falling asleep here! having 2 laptops churning out heat in a flat that the windows don't open too far (thank god really tho) is making this place like a sauna.

i want to go on holiday. now.........

wrt banks, there are always rumours. barclays have been hard hit by the sub-prime thingamajiggy so maybe they're gonna go splat. ultimately they won't tho, there are several european banks who're always scouting for a good take over deal in the UK. we've been under teutonic threat for years if you believe the office rumour mill.

susie, always happy to bitch chat about DHHs Ask the others, they've all got perforated ear drums by now!

i have a house guest tonight/tomorrow then my mother on weds and guest again thurs. huff

i really am a miserable old hermit hag woman!

sfxmum · 28/07/2008 15:00

susie the reliable place for me is kew, mostly because the kids can run around more freely, I have passes if you need it to get in.

happy with club too although I find it too busy during school holidays

re banks I expect that to be true KC still it always has knock on effects and no one seems optimistic which never helps, guess just keep plodding along and let another phase pass

Kewcumber · 28/07/2008 15:01

Paddle - why not pop over to me for an hour when your Ma is there on Weds night? It would be a pleasure to whinge about discuss DHH again.

Kewcumber · 28/07/2008 15:04

"just keep plodding along and let another phase pass" generally works for me

When I was once having a very bad time in my life I followed the Tom Hanks Sleepless in Seattle cod-psychology "I'm gonna get out of bed every morning... breath in and out all day long. Then, after a while I won't have to remind myself to get out of bed every morning and breath in and out" - worked for me!

Paddlechick666 · 28/07/2008 15:11

ta kew, will see how it goes.

kinda like your SiS thingy but we may now need to incorporate "remember to care for child" into it!

Kewcumber · 28/07/2008 15:15

oh bugger yes - actually it needs to be rewritten...

"I'm gonna get bounced on in bed every morning... breath in and out all day long. Then, after a while I won't have to remind myself to get out of bed every morning and breath in and out becasue DS will be yelling at me "UP MUMMY UP UP UP"

sfxmum · 28/07/2008 15:33

on another subject dh has had 4 bikes stolen not one ever recovered David ponce Cameron gets his stolen and it is recovered pronto

pictures of him on hols holding hands with wife caption 'so inlove' puke

I really must find something to do now
