New thread for new month!

OP posts:
mellow2 · 14/04/2008 14:53

Hi ladies,
I'm planning to take dd swimming. Could you recommend a nice pool in the vicinity?

Paddle,
You mentioned that there was a nice pool that you went to. Which one was it again?

OP posts:
sfxmum · 14/04/2008 14:56

mellow I am going tomorrow to pools in the park in Richmond it is ok but nothing fancy, I think Paddle and SJ go to a nice one in Twickers

rosmerta · 14/04/2008 14:58

Mellow, I did get your email but don't worry about the change, just give it to me when you see me. I'll try the butter salve & let you know how I get on.

Re swimming, I take ds to Richmond pool in the park, they have a children's pool which is warm & not too deep and they're reasonably clean. Brentford pool doesn't have anywhere suitable to change ds and is freezing. Last time I went to Isleworth there were dirty nappies & food left in the changing rooms which just put me off.

Sfx, that's just boasting! I moisturized with ds & have still got them

sfxmum · 14/04/2008 15:06

rosmerta apologies I think it is mostly genetics really, sis does not have any either, if it is any consolation there is plenty of sag, wobble and thread weird veins not to mention cellulite

rosmerta · 14/04/2008 15:11

oh ok then sfx, you're forgiven

On another, slightly odd note, does anyone happen to have a Ken or Action man doll I could borrow?

SJ99 · 14/04/2008 15:15

Hello all

Hope everyone had a good weekend. Wedding was great, v. traditional with a few twists e.g bride walking down the ailse to Massive Attack! DS v.v.v. well behaved at wedding although 10hrs in the car not so much fun

Bunyan - sorry to hear your having bf issues, it's so stressful in the beginning and not made better with all the hormones flying about. Hope you get some good advice from cousellor.

KC - thanks for recipe, just saw it Might try making it this week.

Well, some good news. Won't bore you with all the details but after more toing and froing we managed to get the house we were after at a reduced rate as well
Can anyone please recommend a good solictor and surveyor?

rosmerta · 14/04/2008 15:20

Sj, congratulations on the house! We've used Sharpe & co solicitors twice now and have been excellent both times. I know they're in Harrow but everything can be done by post and they're quick. They helped us hugely with our last sale when we had a major problem. If you ring them ask for Ivan Barry.

Was the 10hrs due to traffic by any chance? We drove up north this weekend and it took us ages.

bunyanvillas · 14/04/2008 15:24

Woo hoo, SJ - congratulations!!! How very exciting Sorry, can't recommend a solicitor, though but no doubt someone on here can. Fingers crossed for a speedy, stress-free transaction. Kew, you are of course right in your musings and most definitely not clueless! I rather stupidly got upset by a midwife telling me that a 2oz weight gain was "not really good enough". Whereas of course all weight gain is a good thing. Feeling a bit more in control of things now, must have been that 10 day baby blues stuff kicking in! Lausy, SORRY I am obviously not going to make it out today and have only just got online at this point! I think we can CAT each other our mobile nos, let's do that and then we can perhaps try and arrange a meet-up next week or whenever I am NOT sitting on the sofa feeding his nibs! Gaelsmama, similar for that trip to Kew, I think I need to walk before I can run!

sfxmum · 14/04/2008 15:24

SJ congratulations!
was it protection by any chance? love that song

SJ99 · 14/04/2008 15:25

Thanks Ros. Yes on the way up someone recommened the A1 - big mistake that added an 1hr on to our journey. On way back we went down M1 mass roadworks j10-6 so we had to cut cross country and when we go to Kew/Richmond it was chocka with all rugby traffic, nightmare.

As for stretch marks you could try olive oil. Sorry no action man - is that for you or DS?

Kewcumber · 14/04/2008 15:36

congrats SJ - I'll try to recall the surveyor I used who was excellent.

Bunyan if it's any consolation although I escaped health visitors I am currently dealing with the social worker from hell. SHe infomred me that DS had "special needs" on Friday

Pasted on a smile and ignored her. ACtually I do kind of understand what she eans - adopted chidlren (particualry those adopted trans-racially) do need special handling over some issues. Not the most tactful thing in the world to call my lovely boy "special needs" on a second visit.

She did tack on at the end of the hour a token comment "oh he's so lovely you're doing so well comment" but it just made me want to poke her in the eye.

Much easier to be sensible when its not your child they're talking about.

Lausy · 14/04/2008 16:36

Congratulations SJ, very exciting stuff! I won't recommend our solicitor because they were rubbish last time!

Ok I'll continue to try and distract DS with wild maniac mummy faces and flailing arms...!

Bunyan, don't worry about today, I suspected it wasn't to be! I may sound super-dumb now but what is CAT ??! You'd think working in IT I'd know this stuff....

I have quite a few stretchmarks as well, used bio oil and clarins throughout my pregnancy but didn't do me any favours...

I can't decide whether to take DS swimming tomorrow too or go to Kew Gardens but I know I won't be going to Isleworth pools after those comments - thanks Rosmerta!!!

sfxmum · 14/04/2008 16:54

Lau you can click the envelope at the side of the post make sure you have enabled CAT (contact another talker) in your profile

sfxmum · 14/04/2008 16:57

bunyan about the midwife/ HV please try not to worry too much I have seldom found them helpful especially regarding BF always too keen to push the bottle imo.
I am sure you are doing fine and will make the right decisions for you.

lau I am likely to go swimming and then Kew if the weather is nice it is a shortish walk, although I want to go into town at some point will see how it goes tomorrow

mellow2 · 14/04/2008 18:21

SJ,
Congrats on the house! You must tell us more when we meet.

Bunyan,
The others are right. The midwives who visited us caused more grief than anything else so you should ignore them definitely.

Sfx,
Thanks. I think SJ goes to the Teddington pool. I'll have a look online to see how I can get there.

OP posts:
SJ99 · 14/04/2008 19:08

Mellow - yes I go to Teddington, the pool is really good, the changing rms are ok (no dirty nappies anyway!). Not sure if there is direct route from yours. You may have to go to Twickers on 267 and then get bus to Teddington I think #33 but don't quote me on that

KC - If you could find that surveyor number that would be great
at SW comment, pretty insensitive
Have bought the cake ingredients, will try making it tonight, mmmm

fitfox · 14/04/2008 19:31

SJ ooh good news!! Can't recall the name of our surveyor but she was excellent. Shall I dig it out for you?

Bunyan - echo what SFX says - HV/MW are there to make you feel useless (have to justify their existence).

My baby hasn't been weighed since he was 2 weeks old as I avoid HVs like the plague. All my babies were "under-weight" due to BF - coincidence that their Dad is skinny too isn't it. Plus HV use the weight charts for FF not BF babies. I have three healthy DCs who have thrived on BF and on not seeing HVs

slng · 14/04/2008 19:58

Good news SJ. But am skeptical about existence of "good" solicitor ... There's one in Ealing whose name is nearly "Hook, Line and Sinker", most appropriately, in my albeit limited experience.

On her first (and only) visit HV said "do you know what we are here for" and I nearly died trying not to laugh ...

Kew - does SW have anything more helpful to say apart from just labeling DS!?

Lausy · 14/04/2008 19:59

thanks sfxmum, would love to come too i'll look online where the teddington pool is.

will enable CAT now

SJ99 · 14/04/2008 21:03

LOL Slng Have sorted a solictor now so just need a surveyor - yes please Foxie/KC

I had a nightmare with HV's in Sweden not about bf as they are really pro bf over there, but I had a really tough time with weaning based on their stupid advice. I put down DS reluctance to eat solids due to that, the thought of what we went through makes me even now.

Anyway, back to being excited about offer being accepted

ComeOVeneer · 14/04/2008 22:34

HI all. Congrats on the house Sj can't recommend a solicitor or surveyor as FIL always does all of that for us.

Have been busy sorting out my new business. Have 4 commisions coming up in the next 6 weeks. Have bought a domain name and am designing logos, business cards etc. I need to find someone to help be design the website, but it won't be active until next year. (I'm not telling the name just yet as I am not 100% certain about it atm).

I am off to Kew tomorrow, meeting my parents by C+C for lunch about 12ish, will say "hi" if I spot any of you!

Planning ahead, is anyone interested in going to Horton's farm either at a weekend or perhaps during summer half term? Also do we still want to make a date for the minature train place by me in the summer?

sfxmum · 15/04/2008 08:53

good morning all

Cov - I am really impressed, I briefly nosed on your name thread but did not follow, did you get it from there?

the pool is definitely out for us today as dd's cough kept waking her up last night, so Kew it will be, she is keen on brushing the pigs again.

dd still sleeps in her bedside cot but somehow it was pushed away from my bed (not very secure) and she tumbled out onto the floor, I woke up with her calling me, looked at the cot she wasn't there, started feeling the floor next to the bed, nothing then I noticed her head on the other side of the cot, somehow she fell out rolled under to the other side all in her grobag and I never noticed

anyway took me a while to get back to sleep but she just wanted to get back to her bed
tough kid

and dh has finally ordered her bed

fitfox · 15/04/2008 08:57

SJ - really sorry - I obviously wasn't listening as I thought you said "conveyencer", not "surveyor". I always use my Dad!! He is qualified but retired!

He might not be great with kids but gets very enthusiatic about buildings

CoV - am impressed with your drive and efficiency. We would be interested in model railway place (mainly 'cos I love model railways!!)

fitfox · 15/04/2008 08:59

Anyone got details of the pool in Teddington??

Morning SFX - poor DD eh? and poor Mummy!

sfxmum · 15/04/2008 09:28

Lau just got your CAT sorry have replied.

Foxie I know there is a link to it from the Richmond council site will try and find it for you
