How exciting to be starting thread

Yay, thanks Sfx, am already looking forward to banana bread, mmmm!

In Sweden they had Noise Police (everything is so formally governed over there) but what a great idea, they used to go and put a stop the noise polluters, no messing.

poor gherkin is still sick and now on AB's - GP thinks it is an ear infection but I'm not convinced as his cough is enough to raise the dead (ie me after many nights on Foxie-style sleep).

Being a bit behind on speech, we have a much less wordy but equally mind numbing exchanges

DS points at me
"Mummy" I say obligingly
DS points at himself
"Gherkin"
DS pulls my sleeve
"mummy's jumper"
then at own top
"Gherkins jumper"

DS looks satisfied, then waits .. oh about a nano-second...

DS points at me
"Mummy" I say obligingly
DS points at himself.....

paddle MFI/Magnet/etc kitchen planners are men who failed their DT exam and weren't good enough at sales to sell so got given a "teach yourself how to plan a kitchen in 20 minutes" interactive DVD. (Only my theory of course)

I planned my own kitchen, then went to MFI and said "could you plan my kitchen please"

3 minutes later perusing their plan I said - don't you think it would be much better to lay it out like this (Kew's plan appears)... "erm, well yes but we don't have a tall larder cupboard that size"

Kew says "but it would be pretty easy to make one from a standard door and some Decor panes and a few shelves wouldn't it?"

"Ummm, dunno"

Rings someone who passed their DT GCSE...

"yes Madam apparently that can be done but we'll have to get back to you with a price if you insist"

"Oh I do"

and I did - lovely larder with a light inside and room for a big pile of crap...

Paddlechick666 · 25/01/2008 07:51

lol kew, seems i am sending myself straight back into a drama. being a kitchen design virgin i am getting more and more intimidated by all this!

more pressingly, dd had a very good night but has coughed non stop since waking up and it sounds dreadful. a cross between a bark and whoop.

i think i will have to keep her off pre-school this morning which is a big problem as i have a performance review at 10am with my boss.

fitfox · 25/01/2008 09:03

Paddle what are you going to do this morning then?

Sometimes I contemplate bringing a sick child into office Actually on Christmas eve there were about 15 kids in the office, all tearing about or squashing each other in the sliding filing cabinets!

Anyway Paddle, Wickes do stand alone worktops, my fake beech ones were £50 per. meter (very good value IMHO) and they can be just cut to size. Why don't you get the Polish guys round and they can give you some ideas? If you know roughly what you want, they can collect all the units/tops/cooker indiviually and fit them for you - would be much cheaper and probably quicker than ordering via a shop.

LOL at DD's "Why?" conversation.

After 7.5 years of parenting I am afraid I just cut to the chase:

ME: Put your shoes on, NOW

DS1: Why?

Me: "Because I said so - do it NOW!!!"

SJ99 · 25/01/2008 09:14

Morning all

LOL at all the DC, they are funny little things aren't they?

Good to hear minipads made it through the night without much trouble, pity it has flared up now though. Can you re-schedule your performance review as a last resort?

Sfx - sorry to hear you've not been sleeping well. I agree exercise does help though. I went at 9.10pm last night as poor DH didn't get in til 9pm. Just did half hr weights enough to release some endorphins

Well off to swimming lesson now, have a good day everyone

good morning all

paddle glad dd slept ok shame about review, would you be discussion terms as well?

love the conversations with dc

Paddlechick666 · 25/01/2008 10:13

can't reschedule the review, it's a month late already. blame my boss for that.

just had a very frustrating phone-conf with dd yelling all the way thru it.

boss is late for the review and she is continuing to be very loud. am quite apprehensive about it as it is going to discuss terms and i don't think he's going to be too favourible.

honestly all this just winds me up and makes me impotently angry with H who just sweet FA. if i lost my job dd would lose her home but he does jack to help me out and has a scot free life. he couldn't even make the call that he suggested he make to agree access last night.

how the F am I supposed to handle all this.

ros, will have to miss this arvo. am so sorry but dd's not up to it and would hate to pass on germs. will have to organise something to get ds's gift over to you.

ComeOVeneer · 25/01/2008 10:16

Sorry to her gerkhin and minipaddle are poorly. DS too has this hacking cough (fine apart from that), but regurgitated his night time milk last night, (fortunately we were in the bathroom at the time cleaning teeth).

Kew I know what you mean with kitchen planning, both at magnet and mfi I rejigged their designs to what I wanted. They are initially so adamant that you can only use the set dimensions, but both with the kitchen we have just had done and the one in our old house we got them to aadapt them to fit with our requirements.

ComeOVeneer · 25/01/2008 10:18

I vowed (pre children obviously) that I would always give my child a good reason for why something had to be done etc and that "because I said so" would never pass my lips . How naive was I?

rosmerta · 25/01/2008 10:44

No worries paddle, hope she gets better soon

sfxmum · 25/01/2008 12:37

kewcumber are you around? sent you a text, must check if have right number

fitfox · 25/01/2008 13:15

Paddle [cyber hugs] - hope the review goes well. Let us know how it went

xoxo · 25/01/2008 14:14

Haven't been on in a while so am trying to catch up. May take me a day or so. But in the meantime, hello all.

sfxmum · 25/01/2008 14:51

KC huge apologies dd called your house without me noticing, I had pre dialled then got distracted with something else , then found her holding the phone and typing on my laptop
so sorry hope did not wake up ds

Paddlechick666 · 25/01/2008 16:18

"i love everything about being a mum"

this woman is on a vodka/valium cocktail and feeling no pain!

day from hell in the paddle household. no amount of bribery with various treats (normally in short supply) could keep dd from being the toddler from hell.

4 phone conferences including the performance review and she yelled thru them all.

the review went pretty much as i thought. i didn't fail but i didn't exceed and it has been made abundantly clear that the bar across the board has been raised.

stepfordwife · 25/01/2008 16:46

hello chaps
foxie..did you get my text this morning? (didn't ring as you're at work]
and but have to bail out of this evening...
have bored you with details on txt and other thread..but feckin', friggin' work.
shouldn't complain as it's ages since i've had a real nightmare work-wise...
i'm so sorry but have a fab time

paddle...god, it's excruciating having conf calls/any sort of work call with los around, isn't it? often i walk from room to room with the phone trying to hide from dd who is trailing me screeching her head off.
are you pleased with your review? what more does your boss expect from you??

hope dd feels better and..

kew, hope the little man feels better, too.

took dd swimming this morning. well, when i say swimming, i mean watching her walk across the pool
toodlepip

fitfox · 25/01/2008 17:11

Hi

Someone's toddler also rang my mobile. I have 3 voicemails all 4 mins long of a toddler bashing a phone and screeching!!!

Paddlechick666 · 25/01/2008 17:38

steppie, yep that is exactly how it goes. with the odd hissing "shhhh, be quiet!" and "yes it's a monkey"!

my boss accused me of leaving a 4 minute silent voicemail at 3:30am this morning.

WTF does he think i do at 3:30am? set my alarm in order to prank call him?

checked my CrackBerry history and it most certainly wasn't me.

2cute used to get a heap of calls from dd until i cunningly put an entry of 1 in my address book!

sfxmum · 25/01/2008 18:46

hi all don't know if it was mine foxie very sorry she is fixated on phones lately. profuse apologies if it was.

paddle I am sorry it sounds really rough big hug to you.

steppie sorry you can't come out boo to unreliable people.

SJ you shouldn't have {grin] in a oh yes yummyness is all mine kind of way

stepfordwife · 25/01/2008 18:48

or even worse, paddle, 'mummmmmyyyyyyyy...i've done a poo."

eh? can't believe your boss accused you of that...how odd! bet your flabber was gasted at that one..

stepfordwife · 25/01/2008 18:49

i know, sfx..double-boo
have a lovely time

stepfordwife · 25/01/2008 18:50

oh yes, apologies if it was my offspring, to. don't think it was....

on this occasion anyway

ComeOVeneer · 25/01/2008 19:04

Doubt it was mine as I haven't really got your number accessible. However ds is a dab hand at calling my sister on a regular basis, funnily enough usually on a friday when she doesn't work.

Paddlechick666 · 26/01/2008 08:37

morning all

dd was up till nearly midnight coughing and vomiting. changed her bed twice and it was horrible to see/hear her poor little thing.

mind you, she thought it was great getting up to play with toys whilst i stripped the bed etc!
