How exciting to be starting thread

Yay, thanks Sfx, am already looking forward to banana bread, mmmm!

In Sweden they had Noise Police (everything is so formally governed over there) but what a great idea, they used to go and put a stop the noise polluters, no messing.

was watching a bit of a show related to grand designs the other day and they discussed a Kitchen worth upwards of 30k - then added but the people who get them usually eat out everyday - I switched off in disgust

slng · 24/01/2008 16:59

To bore you further: problem with double oven was that it takes more current, so need thicker wires (or something like that). It's usually a bit taller as well, but that wasn't a problem for us. It turned out that our wiring was OK too. Comet yoofs just took a look and ran away and gave us our installation money back! I had to ring around to get someone to do the hob and someone else to do the oven. But we like our double oven!

Have had to put DS to bed already. He's ditching his naps but is so unbelievably tired in the afternoons. He then becomes really hard work, full of contradictions 'want shoes on, want wellies on' at same time, 'want mummy to carry/want to walk, want to eat banana' (I go and get one) then he says 'no want banana' etc etc you get the picture

Hoping DH will come home soon so I can release some frustration at gym

Sfx - some people clearly have more money than sense at kitchen programme

SJ99 · 24/01/2008 18:48

Just walked past his room, poor thing is absolutely snoring his head off already

rosmerta · 24/01/2008 18:49

poor ds sj! Btw, I need some recipes from you quickly - cake & chicken (not together I might add!). Could you give me a call later, when you get a minute?

tia

SJ99 · 24/01/2008 19:09

Have emailed you cake recipe, but seriously don't go to any trouble, I'm sure there will be plenty for DS to eat

Thanks for thinking of him though

SJ much sympathy

dd asked me for polenta for dinner I obliged she had 3 spoons saying how lovely and delicious it was then said she was full, at least she had some fish.

she told me earlier completely out of the blue

  • mummy the tooth fairy never leaves money under my pillow
too much telly I think

slng I think some of these problems are more to do with local small traders being out of business, big chains are not really that much good value it is sad

fitfox · 24/01/2008 19:36

SJ

Paddle - would like to echo MrsR and say MFI kitchens are great value. We used them in our first house and they were great.

Also you should use the Polish builders that QC and I used - they are very neat, reliable, work hard and very, very cheap. Asking the kitchen suppliers to fit it for you will always be the most expensive option - that's how they make a lot of their money - cheap units/expensive labour.

There are lots of sales on atm - I bet you could get a really good deal on some units and the Polish guys would do the fitting for you for a snip

Paddlechick666 · 24/01/2008 19:37

evening all

dd has developed a cold which is nothing more than a snotty nose tbh but has the horrible cough that she had before xmas.

am attempting to prevent the cough/vomit chain of events by keeping up upright on her sofa until she is so exhausted she sleeps without coughing!

seems to be a pattern, if she can just get off to sleep she is generally okay.

have given her some calpol too.

ros, will have to take a view in the morning i'm afraid.

fitfox · 24/01/2008 19:48

Ooh Paddle, poor DD

rosmerta · 24/01/2008 20:05

No worries paddle, hope she's ok.

Sj, thanks for the recipes!

bunyanvillas · 24/01/2008 20:11

PC sorry to hear that dd is unwell again. Try to get an early night if you can. I had an MFI plan drawn up for my kitchen just after Christmas. My budget would be similar to yours. I thought the units were ok but to be honest I've heard great things about IKEA kitchens so am going to go down that route eventually. Also, you can shop around for worktops - Merton Timber near the rugby stadium are very good. With regard to earlier hoover comments - dd doesn't know what one is as she has never seen me doing it. I am such a slattern.

stepfordwife · 24/01/2008 20:17

evening, chaps
paddle, hope dd has an Ok night..it's horrible that coughing until they puke thing, isn't it?

SJ..totally empathise..dd has been like that all day. "mummy come HERE/mummy-go-way."
SHUT-UP!!!!!!!! (that's me in my head)

supposed to be working, but the ongoing saga of my AWOL interviewees continues....ho-hum..

blimey o'reilly..watched torchwood last night. blood-fest or what? had to take my glasses off to soften the impact. very sad, tho.

stepfordwife · 24/01/2008 20:18

bunyan...my dd shows a similar ignorance about ironing boards. on the rare occasion it's dragged out she calls it 'mummy's funny table"

SJ99 · 24/01/2008 20:23

Tis v.frustrating isn't it Steppie? I have to laugh otherwise I'm sure I would think much worse thoughts in my head Boo for all the awol callers
Yes TW was bit graphic

Sorry to hear DD is starting the cough again Paddle, hope you both get a good night & she feels better soon

Can't believe minisfx knows about the tooth fairy already!

Still waiting for DH to come home so I can go to gym. I think last entry is at 9.30pm but I hope I won't have to go at that time, I'll be asleep

OP posts:
sfxmum · 24/01/2008 20:24

paddle sorry about dd hope you two manage to get some rest tonight.

Ironing dd thinks it is daddy's job as she sees him doing it far more frequently

I thought I was the only one screaming inside my head at regular intervals

sfxmum · 24/01/2008 20:26

SJ hope dh does show up, just set the alrm for early morning jog in dire need of pounding the pavement.

and dd is a bit scary really

stepfordwife · 24/01/2008 20:27

sfx...unfortunately the shouting/screaming/wailing/general gnashing of teeth doesn't always stay inside my head

SJ..gym? nah! have a glass of wine instead. you know it makes sense...

SJ99 · 24/01/2008 20:28

I'm impressed you go for early morning jog, I'm rubbish in the mornings & would end up needing to go back to bed after run if it were me

Paddlechick666 · 24/01/2008 20:46

thanks for all the best wishes, so far so good! hopefully a good night to follow.

she's generally okay in the day and i just need to make sure she doesn't really go outside. poor thing, she's only just begun to go to the park again.

bunyan, i am keen on the ikea idea too. will investigate. no major rush as money in the bank...... for now!

well done and very impressed with all the inside your head. i do not manage that very often!

another transcribe which might amuse:

7:20am thru to 7:40am most days:

me: get your shoes honey
dd: why?
me: it's time to go to CM's house
dd: why?
me: because I have to go to work today
dd: why?
me: because I need to earn money
dd: why?
me: to buy you lots of lovel things, get your shoes honey.
dd: why?
me: because we're going to CM's
dd: why?
me: Just Get Your Shoes!
dd: why?
me: Because I Said So! C'mon honey we don't have time to mess about.
dd: why?
me: because we're going to be late
dd: why
me: Stop Saying Why! Sit down and let's get your shoes on.
dd: why?
me: BECAUSE I SAID SO!

Paddlechick666 · 24/01/2008 20:47

small voice.......... why?

pmsl! it's so funny at this time of evening when i've had some supper and a glass of wine but man she drives me nuts in teh mornings!

slng · 24/01/2008 21:03

paddle - sounds familiar! These days I say "if you are not going to listen to my answer then don't ask again", and shockingly that often works with ds1! He says "oh" and stops.

slng · 24/01/2008 21:04

Though ds1 says "oh" in the most inappropriate places. I think he just likes the sound of it.

sfxmum · 24/01/2008 21:19

SJ I have been sleeping really badly and exercise is the only thing that improves that, besides when I do get out early in the morning it sets me uo for the day and I have far more energy - not to mention improved mood.

all this talk of real parenting is why I trust and like this group it is the PMT hormones

stepfordwife · 24/01/2008 21:46

aww sfx, you softie

you're right, though..
i think it's so important for parents to be honest with each other..

nothing worse than saying to a mum;'god, i get so bored sometimes (domestic treadmill/repitition) i could pull my own teeth for a bit of excitement,"...

only to have the arched eyebrow in reply and;' really? i love everything about being a mum."

two arched eyebrows from me in reply
