How exciting to be starting thread

Yay, thanks Sfx, am already looking forward to banana bread, mmmm!

In Sweden they had Noise Police (everything is so formally governed over there) but what a great idea, they used to go and put a stop the noise polluters, no messing.

OP posts:

and yum to banana bread

slng · 05/02/2008 20:59

I got up at 6.30 to make pancake this morning and I don't even know why, but it was the best pancake I've ever made! I put it down to the fantastic new mechanical whisk. We ate most of them before the kids got up...

Foxie - hope everything is OK.

Hello Amanda!

bunyanvillas · 05/02/2008 21:31

Hello everyone {{{waves to all}}}! Foxie PC, sorry to hear that the LOs are still under the weather, hope things improve soon. Well, the house is still standing, no explosions (well - just me on the verge of a nervous, hormonal breakdown - poor DH) although the electrician did manage to give himself a small shock this morning . But you will all be relieved to hear that I will soon be able to have a shower . Off to see the waxing lady in Brentford on Thurs plus having a much-needed hair appt. All that talk, SFX, of age etc - well mon dieu, I am feeling mine at the moment! Not due to hit the big 4-0 until May but looking and feeling at least 5 years older than that! Think I might also need some of that Clarins Beauty Flash balm, sod the expense this is an emergency!!! No pancakes here tonight due to state of kitchen. Feeling v hard done by without my crepes with lemon-juice & sugar!

ComeOVeneer · 05/02/2008 21:36

Hi all, are the little ones on the mend? I am well and truelystuffed. Made a load of pancakes, filled with chicken, mushooms, shallots and lardons in a cheese sauce, and roasted medditerreanean veg with ricotta cheese. Finished off with pancakes filled with melted dark chocolate, sliced strawberries and whipped cream. Don't like the lemon and sugar kind. Kids loved them and cleaned their plates (dd asked if we can have them everyday ).

Kewcumber · 05/02/2008 22:32

hello all.. sorry too many posts to catch up on so sorry if I'm ignoring anyones misfortune - tis not rudeness but laziness (accompanied by board meeting this afternoon and a DS who will only fall asleep if I sing to him in my bed but am just to tired to try and fight him!)

Am feling very sick... just finished the bottom layer of the box of chocs my bro gave me for my brthday on Sunday - one layer on MOnday, one on Tuesday .

Didn't bother with pancakes - I rarely do but funnily enough lemon and sugar are my favorites - a woman of peasant simple tastes am I.

I'm peeved with my sister who had offered me her lovely house in IOW for my hols only to tell me this evening that she's double booked it. I'm being unreasonable really as she's wuite entitled to offer her house to whomever she likes but my holidays are fixed accoding to CM's schedule in the whole so I have limited choice and no money! Ah well - thinking of hiring a caravan for a week instead. Whats Rye like MrsR?!

fitfox · 06/02/2008 09:54
Sad
Kewcumber · 06/02/2008 10:10

is that a sad face for you or me?

fitfox · 06/02/2008 10:11

It is for my sick child

Paddlechick666 · 06/02/2008 10:12

what did the dr say?

ComeOVeneer · 06/02/2008 10:14

Foxie, is there still no improvement? Positive vibes heading your way.

sfxmum · 06/02/2008 10:18

? poor little cub,hug to you

MrsRecycle · 06/02/2008 10:22

oh foxie - how is he? Has the motilium worked?

Kew - Rye is lovely very old wordly with cobbled streets and lots of antique shops. I would live there tomorrow if I could. Do you have any dates in mind? If we're there, our friends have a caravan which is close to the beach that they hire out (very cheap as well!) or you can stay with us.

COV your pancakes sound delicious, shame I had to work late last night else I would have popped round I said I'd do them tonight for my lot. I'm after a bit of advice - my bro has terrible tooth problems - he has a hole and is in agony but can't afford dentist at the moment (his car has broken down and he needs to get it fixed to get to work) - is there anything he can take for the pain or to fill the gap temporarily?

fitfox · 06/02/2008 10:39

Thanks for your vibes/cyber hugs. He is still very poorly.

MrsR I didn't get out to buy any meds yesterday (inprisoned in meetings all days at work). GP said "he is actually at the end of it now" but he is still very listless and crying all the time. I feel so sorry for him and have had no sleep for 4 nights.

We would like to hire your friend's caravan in July or August - do you know how much she charges?

We cannot use our CM over the school hols as I cannot afford to place 3 kids with her, even for a day - we have to take annual leave. So we wouldn't need the same dates as QC (who uses same CM). We would be interested in any dates over the summer - although it would be nicer if it was the same time you were there - are you going down for 6 weeks.?

Do you fancy texting/e-mailing her prices and contact details?

We can't afford to go abroad anymore with 5 kids....even with DS2 being free until he is 2...

MrsRecycle · 06/02/2008 10:54

Do you want me to pop the motilium in the post for you? It really is wonderful stuff.

The dates I'm down there are:
13th April for one week
11th Aug for three weeks until September

So it's free for Half Term in summer and the first two weeks in August. Or else I can sort out another van, for others.

If you and Kew (and anyone else) let me know dates, I'll see if I work something out price wise we me/friends - it'll be good if we could all go on the same week and I can show you around and we can visit some of the lovely kids-friendly places in the area.

MrsRecycle · 06/02/2008 11:03

Just remembered - we're not there at Easter, so if anyone wants a short break away in a fully centrally heated, double glazed static caravan, let me know (shame it's shut until March, or else bunyan, you could have had stayed in it until your house was fixed!).

Paddlechick666 · 06/02/2008 11:14

i'd be interested MrsR, was toying with idea of taking dd to france in may. very cheap canvas holidays week in a caravan plus flights for about £250 but don't think i can justify that now.

my CM is off last 2 weeks August so I will prob take at least 1 week then. the other week one of her "covers" can do for me and dd knows them really well.

mind you, easter would be good. i am just desperate for a break asap tbh!

just instructed my solicitor to begin divorce proceedings. am very it took all of 20 minutes!

don't know now whether to inform h or just let the letter land....

foxie, i guess there is some light at the end of the tunnel if dr says it's coming to the end.

fitfox · 06/02/2008 11:26

MrsR - are you sure you don't mind sending the meds?

We might be interested in caravan for May bank holiday week. We were supposed to be going to stay with some Italian friends in Barcelona abut cannot afford the flights (all the cheap flights have gone now, apart from for single peole - we cannot get a decent priced flight for 5 of us unless we travel back at some ungodly hour) - so the end of May by the sea would be nice.

And/or anytime in July or August. If we went down on Fri 25 or Sat 26 we would be there for DD's birthday which would be nice for her. Or maybe either 16 or 23 August for a week?

QC would you need either week of 9 August or 16 August as CM is away then (to somewhere excotic)??

16 August would be good if there are other caravans for hire?

fitfox · 06/02/2008 11:30

MrsR - I can see you are going to have to start an agency!!!

LOL at the idea of Bunyan living there while house is done!

I like the idea of a whole load of us going to Rye in August - week beginning 16th would probably cover all the CM hols.

MrsR - how many friends do you know with caravans to hire?

fitfox · 06/02/2008 11:32

Paddle IKWYM about not being able to justify the cost of flights - that's how I feel about Barcelona. I cannot justify £900 quid for 5 flights for a 4 day break, even if we stay with friends

Kewcumber · 06/02/2008 11:33

I would like the week of 16th - would like to go with my mum so would be good to have a separate caravan as she will be horrifed at the idea of sharing with anyone else!

Perhaps Paddle could stay with you and Foxie could another van then we can have a MN meet-up if anyone else fancied coming down for the day! Isn't it very hilly around Rye - am a bit worried about my mums arthritic hip. I looked at teh price of caravan last night and was a bit put off by the cost but perhaps a private hire would be affordable.

(My mum will go white if she hears that!)

Sorry about DS2 Foxie, its horrible when you can't do anything isn't it. Perhaps the motilium will help.

sfxmum · 06/02/2008 11:35

paddle sorry about the divorce business, it can't be easy. hope mini paddle is ok today

foxie - at least on the up curve, it is hard to watch. I have no idea how people cope with seriously ill children with chronic conditions etc.

LOL at West London descending on Rye it's a shabbier version of rich Richmond/ Sloanes descending on Cornwall being all polished and perfect daaarling

Kewcumber · 06/02/2008 11:36

paddle - I'm sure you must feel terribly sad about instructing solicitors. I remember my mums divorce so vividly, such a sad time reflecting on might-have-beens. On a slightly more positive note, if my mum can move on and have a happy life post divorce then anyone can and ironically I think that the divorce being finalised was the catalyst (along with her moving to her flat around the same time) for her getting control of her life back.

Paddlechick666 · 06/02/2008 11:45

thanks everyone. probably wasn't the wisest thing to do on the day my mother comes. really do not want to see or speak to anyone right now. not intending to tell her as it will just be a firing line of questions that i cannot face.

i do feel like crap.

as for Rye, it does sound fabbo. what sort of price is a van then? i might have a friend with a ds same age as dd who might be keen on a share with me.

sfxmum · 06/02/2008 11:49

are you still going to Latitude Paddle? am considering paying for niece to go to for some childcare.

am pretty sure we can't have holidays this year too apart from a short break for the festival and BIL wedding

Paddlechick666 · 06/02/2008 11:55

yep, i bought 2 adult tix (family) as i was anticipating getting a friend to come too.

have 2 friends in mind but one is a teacher and she can't take the friday off.

i don't think i'm brave enough to go on my own!

if it all gets too much i will sell them.
