New thread as the other one is not going to last long.

OP posts:
sfxmum · 03/01/2008 13:42

nearly chocked on my Ryvita with the first stripper comment

champers party sounds good

and at being stopped by police

things like 'you don't look or sound very foreign' are odd

there are numerous comments which often are made with misguided good intentions but are indeed quite hurtful, and sometimes I prefer outright racists at least you know where you are with them, teaching children how to deal with the shades in between is quite hard

bunyanvillas saw around earlier how is the new house shaping up?

paddle best of luck for you both on the first day, I bet dd will love it

sfxmum · 03/01/2008 13:43

and where is the snow?

SushiMummy · 03/01/2008 13:44

SJ - sunbed! She sounds more of an ignorant fool than being racist, tho. But still

foxie - DH experience with the police!

SJ - I think the nursery your DS will be going has the best Ofsted report in the area.

rosmincepieeater · 03/01/2008 13:59

Hi all,

Champers evening sounds good! Would be happy with a lift or to share a taxi from Richmond. Hopefully then Steppie will regain her respect for me

After tantrum central yesterday, ds has been much better behaved, well this morning at least!

rosmincepieeater · 03/01/2008 14:02

Am at experiences! You'd think we'd be more enlightened but apparently not!

Sfx, am impressed you're eating ryvitas! And I was also looking forward to some snow. Maybe tonight.

I tried giving ds tuna mayo for lunch today, he sniffed it and said 'no no no'!

sfxmum · 03/01/2008 14:49

ros I only had one because dd likes and asks for them, mine had peanut butter on

we are in tantrum no food remotely hinting at vitamins shall I ever eat land too

ComeOVenReadyturkey · 03/01/2008 14:52

Hi all. Well life slowly returns to normal. DH back at work today, the lo's have been helping me take down the decorations and return the house to normal. The whole christmas period was rather dissapointing, what with MIL's antics, dh being ill then kindly infecting me. We barely did half of the things we wanted to with the children, I am now really run down and the house is a tip. Only benefit is that I have lost 6 pounds over the holiday which is a first for a christmas break. Didn't manage to stay awake for midnight on new years eve , actually only got out of bed at 3pm and back in by 8.30pm.

Here's hoping 2008 is a good year for us all.

So when are we next getting together (I seem to have got a bit lost in all the recent plans)?

Dh is having a liver biopsy next week, so everyone keep your fingers crossed for him!

foxcubinapeartree · 03/01/2008 15:26

I like those Ryvitas with all the grains/seeds on. Yummy

Hi CoV [waves] glad to hear you survived the mad rellies and lost a bit of weight - Fingers and everything crossed for your DH's biopsy next week [hugs]

GloriaInEleusis · 03/01/2008 16:33

Liver biopsy? Oh no. What's wrong? Have I missed something?

There are two meet ups coming up (Jan. 24th?? at Escale) or Feb. 1st at Gaucho in Richmond. Gaucho has better food. at Foxy.

And, as of today, there is a Champers evening in the works at my house in late Feb or March.

How does 23rd Feb sound for Champers night? I can not do 8th March (Girly piss up in Bournmouth) or 22nd March (DD's birthday).

stepfordwife · 03/01/2008 16:38

hello all
how you all diddling?

yes, read your racism thread, kew. do think it sounded an ignorant comment rather than a malicious one..but that's no excuse. after all, that's largely what racism isn, isn't it? ignorance..

it's all down to tone as well, isn't it. fine for my mates to call me a paddy etc, not so fine people calling me that growing up in the 1970s in an irish family as 'you all belong to the IRA, don't you?"

and, sfx, you're so right. it's harder to deal with when it's not rabid racism.

hope you're feeling better kew and foxie.
yes, would be up for a champers do. lovely-jubbly.

took ds1 and ds21 to the victoria and albert museum this mornong. haven't been for yonks because of devotion to the scence and natural history museums. really enjoyed it.
and it's lovcely to be able to focus on them without the distraction of a lairy, bonkers 2-year-old!

have a good evening everyone
toodlepip

stepfordwife · 03/01/2008 16:39

ds2...not ds21

stepfordwife · 03/01/2008 16:40

hope dh's liver biposy is ok, COV

Kewcumber · 03/01/2008 16:41

sorry to hear about DH liver biopsy. Don't know his symptoms but if its any consolation friend of my mum, who has cysts on her liver, had clear biopsy a few weeks ago.

Kewcumber · 03/01/2008 16:43

(I aslo had a clear liver biopsy once due to poor liver function but too long ago to be relevant)

Kewcumber · 03/01/2008 16:47

can;t make either meet-up:

  1. no money
  2. no babysitting
  3. no money
  4. did I mention no money?

Have done my 2008 monthly budget today (spot teh accountant) and have finally come up with new years resolution - save enough money to go away for a proper holiday perhaps next Xmas. It is my bro's 50th and my mums 70th in early Jan so we thought it might to go away somewhere for Xmas. Need to save at least £100 per month so no more frittering money away

Kewcumber · 03/01/2008 17:08

Foxie - will drop off the rest ofthe stuff on way to pick up DS

MrsRecycle · 03/01/2008 17:52

Sorry to hear about your crap Christmas/New year COV. Hope 2008 improves for you. Sending lots of hugs and prayers for your dh's biopsy next week.

Gloria - might be able to make Champers night - mind you don't have too many bottles left as we managed to drink a few over Christmas and new year (first time ever!). But it really depends on dates as I have a lot going on in the next couple of months.

Steppie - talking of museums, shall I arrange a meet-up at the Toy Museum in the Half Term that we could all go to? I'll start a new thread but will put it in Meet-ups away from the local so that all can come, if they wish.

KC - sorry to hear about the comment about ds - I've had it as well even though I'm not mixed race. Re: next Xmas, come and join the Recycle family - we're going to Tenerife!

Foxie - hope you're feeling a bit better poor thing. It's not a nice bug. I've been asking around to see if anyone want's a room so if I hear of anyone I'll let you know. Have you tried gumtree?

foxcubinapeartree · 03/01/2008 18:33

Thanks for dropping the fabby toys of earlier on QC - sorry I wasn't very sparkling company - still feeling shite

Blimey that Gaucho's place is very expensive!!! Beyond my budget I'm afraid!

CoV: here is the other meet up, which will be 25 or 26 January at Escale[yummy emoticon]

MrsR - Yes have advertised on Gumtree. Have had 1 response, who never showed. Have had two from another website though, who should be viewing this weekend. By specifying a woman I've reduce my responses somewhat and its a really bad time of year to be advertising.

QC forgot to harass you about that bloke when I saw you - he who may be looking for a room to rent !! Any more contact with/from him?

Just had two bowls of tinned veggie soup - nice and warming. Now what really I need is a foot massage administered by an Italian Stallion.

Did anyone spot the very short lived snow today?

foxcubinapeartree · 03/01/2008 18:34

slng · 03/01/2008 19:06

KC - read your thread DCs don't really have very Chinese features and we've had comments from chinese women being astonished that "foreign" children speak chinese! Not sure to get annoyed or to be proud ...

I refuse to say DCs are half this and half that. Sounds so incomplete. They are both English and Chinese and completely London.

rosmincepieeater · 03/01/2008 19:56

evening all,

Kew & Foxie, hope you both get better soon.

Cov, fingers crossed for your dh & hope you have a better year.

[wave] to everyone else

Now that xmas is over with I'm back studying again. Must go and read books about how adults learn!

foxcubinapeartree · 03/01/2008 22:06

Paddlechick666 · 04/01/2008 10:00

i've got the latest douglas kennedy i could swap you

have to admit to using the library more these days, books are just so expensive to buy.

oh and i just finished an excellent jodi picoult that i bought ages ago and forgot to read! the ongoing benefits of moving, i found it when unpacking!

rosmerta · 04/01/2008 10:06

Kew, I would like to borrow those books if you don't mind. And Foxie, can I borrow Splendid Suns after Paddle? I really enjoyed his Kite Runner. We really need to arrange another book meet!
