New thread as the other one is not going to last long.

OP posts:
foxcubinapeartree · 02/01/2008 18:40

sleepover, not playdate

Ros - LOL at you forgetting to drink the champers!!

GloriaInEleusis · 02/01/2008 19:02

Ros, I bought two bottles of champaigne. One mimosas on Christmas Eve and one for New Years Eve. Forgot to drink them BOTH.

Kewcumber · 02/01/2008 20:25

PAddle - will ocassionally condescend to join the lower orders at a public pool but not on a Friday as I go Fridays nights myself and just can't face getting undressed twice in one day! Would happily do an occasional Saturday if you like.

Foxie - I also have a cold - came home from work a couple of hours early and fell asleep didn't pick DS up from my mum until 6.30pm when I arrived home at 4.30

Have a couple of new fancy dress costumes courtesy of a freind but far too large for DS yet. One English Knights tabard in white and silver with red cross and one fantastic velvet Harry Potter dress robe.

Kewcumber · 02/01/2008 20:26

Ros - not only do I have the Karen SLaughter book to give you still but my mum gave me the new (hardback ) Kathy Reichs book which I have just finished if you want to borrow that.

foxcubinapeartree · 02/01/2008 20:56

QC sorry to hear you feel dreadful as well

MrsR - yes please to Barbie outfit - a girl can never have too many dressing up outfits I'm sure you'll agree

stepfordwife · 02/01/2008 21:53

evening all
how you diddlng?

tbh, not sure i can continue to be associated with a group of people who...dear god, it pains me to even say it...FORGETS about champagne.....

why oh why would you do that ? oh go on, then, i'll give you another chance..

sushi - told dh he's been 'spotted' at kew and he got that slightly haunted look that precedes me saiong something like..."yes and she saw dd running across the road while you read the menu at the glasshouse, you know..." (did that happen...you can tell me..)

paddle...i'd keep that neighbour at a friendly but healthy distance if i was you. warning bells always sound when someone wants to be your instant NBF, eh?

foxie and kew...hope you're feeling better. it was dd's first day back at CM today and she was not impressed as her brothers blabbed about going ice-skating at kew gdns.
she's got no idea what that is, of course, but knew she was missing out...

ds1 clung to the side and ds2 literally ran on the ice like a bloody ice hockey player, he knows no fear (their first time, btw). that boy knows no fear..

got a friend coming to stay tomorrow and catching up with some cousins on friday..so the festive social whirl continues. fab but a bit tiring, non?

bought some yellow leathger gloves in the sales today. loved them until it struck me they looked like a pair of marigolds...ach well..
toodlepip

SushiMummy · 03/01/2008 07:52

LOL steppie - it was more like your DD running into Tesco and your DS was running after her.

Foxie and QC - hope you get better soon.

Paddle - congrats on the first mortgage payment. Agree about the pre-school. DS loves his nursery and he was so happy to be back yesterday, all smiling.

QC - there are at least two Anglo/Oriental boys in DS class (DS included) so your DS won't feel like a 'stranger' iykwim. Just read your thread about the first racist comment. This is something I have to prepare myself for. Hopefully these things don't happen where we live.

Have a good day all!

sfxmum · 03/01/2008 09:07

good morning all

KC I am sorry about that comment, it is quite infuriating the sheer ignorance of it all

The nursery was quick to reply so I should visit next week I think, my little girl is growing fast, she keeps talking about going to school

am completely enthralled with my book (new year res to read as I did before) it's a R&J club one
hope you are all having a nice day

Kewcumber · 03/01/2008 10:11

the racist comment was an odd one because when his friend said something to him (I couldn't hear what exactly) he sounded really defensive, like he didn't think it was racist. Just made me realise I do need to practice a few put-down comments... just such a shock because DS is generally such a happy chappy that comments have until now been along the lines of "isn't he sweet!"

Cold is not better so have taken DS to CM and am at home. Feels very odd, first time I have done it. Not sure if I am ill enough to be honest, it feels odd not having DS here.

SushiMummy · 03/01/2008 10:35

QC - I did the same just before Xmas, took a sickie myself and DS was at nursery. Felt guity at first but really enjoyed the 'freedom'. Take it easy.

Re the racist comment, v interesting. Told this to DH and he said where he comes from (Bury) the c word is not considered to be racist. So the person who used the word to your DS probably didn't mean to be racist at all. But still some people need educating.

Paddlechick666 · 03/01/2008 10:39

what racist comment? how horrible for you kew.

well, i am back in the office and it feels very weird.

not sure about these new working hours, all seems a bit daunting now and my boss hasn't actually confirmed i can do it.

i will just carry on regardless tho i guess, better flippin get paid for it tho!

it is freezing out there today, suggest you get yourself on the sofa under a blanket kew and give yourself the day to recover.

Kewcumber · 03/01/2008 10:45

spotted your DS Sushi - do I win something?

SushiMummy · 03/01/2008 11:02

Well spotted! I thought the Thomas t-shirt was such a giveaway.

foxcubinapeartree · 03/01/2008 11:42

QC I have taken a sickie too - feel dreadful

Sorry to hear about the drunk racist comment - have posted on your thread

Did anyone see the "My Fake baby" prog last night - how wierd were those women???

Paddlechick666 · 03/01/2008 11:52

kew, that solicitor firm seems to have disappeard

it would seem i am eligable for legal aid tho so that's good.

just need to find a lawyer now. anyone else got anyone they could recommend?

sfxmum · 03/01/2008 11:57

hope you both feel better soon, rest without kids should help.

not seen weirdo programme but there are loads of threads about it, as a rule I only watch drama and proper documentaries but not about extended breastfeeding

the racist thing all all other demeaning isms related comments are really about how the recipient feels, sometimes we are able to educate sometimes we just have to take the confrontation route, life's work I fell.

my friend used to get 'you are ok not very dark'

SJ99 · 03/01/2008 12:46

Hello all

Ros/Ele - Too bad about missing the champers (I agree with Steppie though - are you both mad??!) but at least you'll have something to look forward to

Sushi - spookily that's the same nursery I put DS name down for to start at 3yrs but the one near me. They seemed to tick all the boxes in my mind but it did seem quite busy. Good to hear your DS likes it there.

Paddle - Good luck for your DD going to pre-school on Fri, so grown up!

Kew - I can imagine you would be taken aback by drunken comment. You wouldn't really imagine it happening to a boy of DS age, how horrible for you. My DS had his 1st racist experience when he was 1mth old, an old swedish woman started lecturing DH not to put DS under the sunbed at that age as it was bad for them I guess I have to prepare for much worse as he gets older, there are lots of ignorant/stupid people in this world

Foxie - didn't watch programme, it sounded too creepy when I read the preview in tv guide

GloriaInEleusis · 03/01/2008 13:11

Sunbed? I'm soryy, but her ignorance actually amused me. I mean what an utterly stupid thing to think -- let alone say.

As for the Champers... well at least I still have two bottles. Maybe I should bring it to the next meet-up and we can all drink it together. In fact we could have a champers evening where everyone brings a bottle of champers and the host provides some nibbles. What do you think? I could offer up my house, but you'll all have to travel to Sunbury. Could do it in Feb or March if people are interested.

Kewcumber · 03/01/2008 13:15

I could do Feb (late) or March (avoiding Easter) and could struggle out to Sunbury

Kewcumber · 03/01/2008 13:15

agree with Gloria (do like calling you gloria) not so much racist as barking mad!

foxcubinapeartree · 03/01/2008 13:17

SJ - PMSL at sunbed - what a very daft woman she must be!!!!

Paddle - your DD is growing up so fast! can't help with solicitors sorry (only conveyancing ones).

Do you remember the name of the furniture recycling company you use? I have a moses basket with stand, mattress, bed linen and would like to donate it.

SFX - Andrea Levy covered that "skin shade" issue very well in one of her books about two sisters and how they were treated very differently due to skin shade. I often get comments about DH such as "Oh but he's not very black though" !! Just out of interest, DH has been stopped questioned by the police twice when he was out with DS1 as a toddler, as people had accused him of child abduction (due to him being a different "shade" to DS1). Ironically DS1 looks the most like DH out of all the children. He has never been questioned when out with pale DD. He was a bit taken aback both times, but saw the funny side of it afterwards. The first time, the police asked DS1 if DH was "his daddy" to which he just responded with a hostile toddler glare and refused to comment!

foxcubinapeartree · 03/01/2008 13:20

ooh Champers evening sounds right up my street!

I could do late Feb/March too Gloria, but would need a lift .

Anyone know of any good Strippers?

Door strippers that is?

Want to get our internal doors dipped and stripped while there is no lodger.

Any news from your guy QC? Its very quiet but have had one new inquiry

GloriaInEleusis · 03/01/2008 13:29

A taxi from Richmond station runs about £20 (say £30 to be on the safe side) so if four of you got in it, that would be quite reasonable. Alternatively, there is a bus to Twickers (290), then another bus or train to Richmond. The bus isn't bad, that how I get home when I go out on the razzle with school mums. But the taxi is probably easier if you have people to share it with.

I assume everyone knows how to get home from Richmond.

SJ99 · 03/01/2008 13:32

At the time we were pretty stunned at the old lady's comments and sort of laughed it off but inside I was a tad offended.

at Foxie DH being stopped by police. Fortunately he can laugh about it now. Sorry can't help with strippers, of either variety

Champers party sounds fun

foxcubinapeartree · 03/01/2008 13:37

SJ did you/your DH react to the woman's comments?
