Hello

Just popping in and saw thread already full up! The craziness of November is well and truly under way. Sorry I'm behind on your news, hope everyone is well.

The scarf video, I thought she was going to hang herself for the final tie Grin

Still undecided about floor, have got loads of samples ordered. I want a fresh, modern look whereas Dh wants more clinical, utlitarian (sp?) look, need to find something that we both like Hmm

OP posts:
sfxmum · 04/03/2012 19:23

but that is potato starch

UptoapointLordCopper · 04/03/2012 19:41

maybe it's the same thing?

vbus · 04/03/2012 19:50

Hello

Hope everyone is having a nice wkend.

Wkend has flown as usual. Friends been round all day which was lovely, all kids played really well (Sfx - the one who came to cinema with us!)

Copper - try some potato bread maybe

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 04/03/2012 20:06

OK, potato starch not the same as potato flour.

I thought potato bread is usually made with real potatoes... More googling ...

vbus · 04/03/2012 21:05

But can you use the flour as well as the real potatoes? Confused

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 04/03/2012 21:32

Turns out what I've got is the starch, not the flour... Confused too.

sfxmum · 04/03/2012 23:14

The starch is used to make croquete and assorted other things I probably gave some old cookery book where that is used

sfxmum · 04/03/2012 23:16

It is used as gluten free alternative as well so you might get likely on sites catering for that
Turns our I can't do my March race as it falls on the day and time of dh's graduation

UptoapointLordCopper · 05/03/2012 11:01

sfx - Bad luck on clash. But why must that stop you? Grin

I think I'll just use the potato starch when recipe calls for tapioca starch. Generally Chinese recipes use it as thickeners, in the same role as mung bean starch, tapioca starch, corn starch, arrowroot, and a myriad of other types of starch. Hmm But it is rated quite high as thickeners go. HmmHmm

Kewcumber · 05/03/2012 16:45

I move next week. NEXT WEEK! No NO NO! that is too soon.

sfxmum · 05/03/2012 17:58

KewC how are you doing it? getting a man with a van? or friends?
good luck with boxed, let me know if you need a couple of hrs help

copper I can't it is his 2nd degree but his first graduation ceremony, and we will be meeting friends afterwards

Kewcumber · 05/03/2012 20:24

I can't move a 3 bed house and a shed with a man with a van - my nerves would never take it. Three men and a removal lorry is barely going to do it! I swore I would never DIY a move again after the first house I bought.

sfxmum · 05/03/2012 20:53

that is very sensible indeed you still have the packing and unpacking to do and that is more than enough with a small person about

UptoapointLordCopper · 05/03/2012 21:04

Will there be a house-warming party? Smile

Now have new window. But pondering what to do with knackered futon mattress and wardrobe.

Did anyone read the cleaner thread? Inspired to consider hiring someone to sort out the garden ... Should I or is that too lazy?

sfxmum · 05/03/2012 22:08

did not see thread but I am of the opinion that in this economy if you can afford to give someone a job you should Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 05/03/2012 22:19

OP was very disapproving. Grin Standard non-arguments.

Also got sucked into thread about manners. (Yes I'm bored.) Funny how people insist on other people having manners by being doubly rude. I was brought up with the mantra that you do not forget the good others do to you but you do not remember the good you do for others. Certainly do not go around demanding people say thank you to you for holding doors open. Hmm But it was funny - all posts saying so are studiously ignored. Grin It's all very odd.

As for gardener, more like tidy-upper outdoors. One off, at least.

sfxmum · 05/03/2012 22:32

manners, class, public schools all terribly bun fighty Grin

I am sleepy and so very behind on my studies, must work harder, essay due next Wednesday

UptoapointLordCopper · 06/03/2012 07:57

Good morning!

sfx - Yes. Also read another thread about kids getting into local "bog standard" comp, interested due to friend's daughter sec school application. There are certainly people around with issues ... Then went to look at ofsted report of our two nearest comps. They were both glowing reports. So went to look at report of our primary, which is "outstanding", but report said school "worked closely with parents" Hmm In reality they would like us all to disappear down a black hole for 7 years before being spat out again to take the children away. Grin Hence reports to be taken with LARGE pinch of salt.

Chores to do. Read Salvation Army leaflet about how "some people fill their days with activities to avoid being alone with themselves" and "if you need help tick the following boxes" of various degree of learning about the SA. Take it as message from above that I need a gardener. Wonder if the SA does that.

sfxmum · 06/03/2012 09:38

copper they do good work in a religious way, I have taken clients to their services and never felt they were in your face, and I love their brass bands (shallow)
also it is true people avoid their own company and own thoughts, although sometimes that is wise, even if quite sad, they might know a good gardener btw

day of study, husband working from home at some point best pop out and run.
considering going to Women's day meet me on the bridge event on Thursday, anyone here going?

sfxmum · 06/03/2012 09:39

and about schools you really have to visit t get a feel for it, reports never tell the full pictures these things are often biased

UptoapointLordCopper · 06/03/2012 09:52

No objection to salvation army, except that their magazine is not very good. Start with this issue or that, then fizzle out with platitudes. Annoys me and reminds me of bad reports I have to mark. C- all round.

I like my own company. Just don't get it too often. Smile

UptoapointLordCopper · 06/03/2012 09:53

Not that I have that many out-of-body experience. Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 06/03/2012 20:04

And DS2 says we must keep our planet nice and clean because otherwise God would be upset about his special beautiful planet which he likes very much. Hmm Hmm

sfxmum · 06/03/2012 22:36

copper they are doing Christianity at dd's school too this term, it is a topic on RE it is funny what she comes up with, all the Jesus chronology is a ta wrong and she accepts no corrections oh well dogma

UptoapointLordCopper · 07/03/2012 08:16

New cleaner turned up one hour early. Grin But she seems nice.

Start them young, eh? Perhaps the young are naturally dogmatic anyway ...
