Hello

Just popping in and saw thread already full up! The craziness of November is well and truly under way. Sorry I'm behind on your news, hope everyone is well.

The scarf video, I thought she was going to hang herself for the final tie Grin

Still undecided about floor, have got loads of samples ordered. I want a fresh, modern look whereas Dh wants more clinical, utlitarian (sp?) look, need to find something that we both like Hmm

tilly - those books look interesting. DS1 was on ORT "classics" which were quite OK - there were White Fangs (I suspect a lot was lost in the abridging even though I haven't read the original - never could bring myself to read it), the three musketeers (try explaining adultery to a 7yo Hmm), Jungle book (much deeper than the Disney version, to my surprise >) and the Canterville Ghost.

And we've got Shakespeare for 9yos. Grin

sfxmum · 08/11/2011 21:59

on the subject of abridged classics there are collections out there Classics for girls The Story of Heidi, Little Women, The Railway Children, Black Beauty, The Secret Garden and The Wizard of Oz
and another volume of classics for boys Moonfleet, Around the World in 80 Days, Gulliver's Travels, Robin Hood, The Canterville Ghost and Robinson Crusoe which is really poo as frankly they should all read the lot as they are proper classics
dd has the girl version (present ) I suggested the boys one but she flat out refuses as it is 'for boys' will have to introduce in some other format

tillyfernackerpants · 08/11/2011 22:49

Sfx, ds1 really enjoyed The Railway Children, which surprised me a little but am pleased he likes it! And I agree, I don't think they should separate them into 'girls' & 'boys' stories, especially when there can be strong female characters in some of them

sfxmum · 09/11/2011 12:03

tilly I started the Hunger Games lasy night, went to bed past 2am because my frakking iphone was updated and erased all contents and subsequent 3 arremps to restore it failed, finally I worked out it wanted me to disable all laptop security ShockAngry who do I shout at now that Jobs is gone?

spent the morning sorting out stuff for business start up fair next week must be done

sfxmum · 09/11/2011 12:05

updated firefox too and now I can see the stupid ads everywhere, must install blessed ad blocker

wish I was running instead, even a plodding jog is better than desk work
alas essay to play

hope everyone is well

btw dd has a line in the Nativity, she closes the show, she has been practicing Grin

tillyfernackerpants · 09/11/2011 13:25

Sfx, are you enjoying the Hunger Games? I raced through the 3 of them, would be interested to hear what you think, I won't say now so I don't spoil it Grin

sfxmum · 09/11/2011 13:28

I had a look at the casting so I can imagine what may possibly happen over 3 books, starting with the reaction of the sector's people

I am pretty sure it will be speed reading woe the essay due next week

UptoapointLordCopper · 10/11/2011 09:56

In office. With no heating, no double-glazing. Bloody third world country.

UptoapointLordCopper · 11/11/2011 07:44

Good morning!

Survive arctic office though with a 4-paracetamol headache.

Where is everyone? Smile

sfxmum · 11/11/2011 09:27

hello

copper take a scarf and hat it helps

tilly done the first one, very entertaining, I hope it is not just about a triangle but this was fast paced and made its kind of sense, quite enjoyable

busy here although yesterday I felt really shivery and odd after a sleepless night, sat on the sofa to have breakfast and fell asleep for about an hr, much better after. today off to visit relative and so on

we all want the weekend asap

vbus · 11/11/2011 17:58

Just nipping out of whirlwind to say hello! hope everyone well.

Copper - have you warmed up yet?
Sfx - Hope you manage to stave off an illnesses and good luck for essay

Thanks for book ideas, I just wanted to get something that wasn't Horrid Henry!

Had school drinks on Weds. DS2 had a good b'day yesterday with 10 pals round, I have just about recovered Grin Back just now from hospital, DS1 got some good advice about his allergies, nice to meet someone who did not waste our time.

Off to B'ham tomorrow for the day for a family b'day then back in evening for another friend's b'day. Sunday my parents are taking us all out for all our Nov b'days. All this celebrating is certainly easing the pain of annoying neighbour Grin

Good evening!

Had a very nice afternoon at Ealing. Bought lots of books at Oxfam. Grin But had rather unpleasant experience at Pitshanger gallery - patronising staff assuming kids are distructive. DS2 told off for touching a shelf FFS. Fired off email to complain and told them to make it clear if they didn't want children visitors. But otherwise very nice afternoon of cafe, park, bookshop and pizza.

Going to read my Oxfam loot now. Smile

sfxmum · 11/11/2011 21:24

vbus glad to hear you are giving yourself over to celebrations and managed a distraction from neighbours' troubles

copper I find that quite a lot of galleries are not child friendly at all, even a lot of arty museums act like they have priceless works and children are a menace, quite silly

Kora got email thanks, given my experience I am not surprised she did not last

Wine & book so glad it is the weekend

UptoapointLordCopper · 11/11/2011 21:56

sfx - yes, particularly ironic as exhibition want audience to be "engaged in the process of making". Told them they should put out a notice "no inquisitive young minds". Grin Oxfam bookshop woman, on the other hand, was lovely. Said they only wanted to know. That was when DSs were examining all the Xmas wrapping paper ...

Toast and Wine and book. Smile

Kora · 11/11/2011 22:26

Hello! It's been too long! Just about recovered from work travels last week, had lots to catch up on this week, not least seeing my girls again, oh and DH of course Grin... DD2 seems be on her way to walking, crossing the living room quite frequently now! So glad I didn't miss her first journeying Smile

Hope everyone has a restful/celebratory weekend, away from hassles of the week! I'm going to join you with Wine and book. I've bought new Pratchett. Can't wait to get stuck in with feet up for a bit...

sfxmum · 13/11/2011 18:20

hello

hope everyone is well and enjoyed the weekend

thought I would share these dd having lots of fun with it

UptoapointLordCopper · 13/11/2011 20:38

Hello!

Lunch in Southall today with friends. Smile

And played animal guessing games with DC - can only answer yes no. Porcupine and platypus took a lot of guessing. Grin

And watched Ice Age 3 on telly. What fun that movie is.

And whatever anyone thinks it had better NOT be Monday tomorrow ...

sfxmum · 13/11/2011 21:51

copper we do animal vegetable mineral too

tilly am done with books, discussion at next meet up Grin

took dd to birthday party and it was in the pool, a bunch of dads mostly, not forgiving dh for quite sometime on that one

tillyfernackerpants · 13/11/2011 22:03

sfx Grin people do seem to read them v quickly!

Dh thinks ds1 should have a pool party, have told him no-one will come on account of a parent needing to be in the pool Grin

sfxmum · 13/11/2011 22:04

loads of people there super busy and have I mentioned I hate dh today?

sfxmum · 14/11/2011 19:06

tilly trailer out looks good although barely have any idea who the leads are, all awfully young (link on FB)

hello folks how is everyone? here very boring
with slight worry that dd has been complaining of pain in her legs, will allow a few more days then see the doctor I think

UptoapointLordCopper · 14/11/2011 21:20

Hello!

Not too bad here. Quite tired from work but visited friend and had nice chat.

Replied to the reply to my complaint email to art gallery.

What to do next?

sfxmum · 14/11/2011 21:38

The press copper the press Grin
Can't believe I am already in bed

UptoapointLordCopper · 14/11/2011 21:51

Just about to go to bed to read The Day Aberystwyth Stood Still. Only read 2 chapters. So far featured a town mayor with a sidekick who goes around hacking people's desks to bits if they were prophesied to be meddling with mayor's affair in the future. (Let's hope Boris doesn't read this book.) Promises to be a completely bizzarre and baffling book like the previous ones. Grin

sfxmum · 16/11/2011 09:45

Hello still writing essay hopefully all done before pick up far too much going on afterwards
Not sure which book next but might try and go back to the one interrupted 4 books ago Blush
Hope everyone is well
