Hello

Just popping in and saw thread already full up! The craziness of November is well and truly under way. Sorry I'm behind on your news, hope everyone is well.

The scarf video, I thought she was going to hang herself for the final tie Grin

Still undecided about floor, have got loads of samples ordered. I want a fresh, modern look whereas Dh wants more clinical, utlitarian (sp?) look, need to find something that we both like Hmm

Haircut done. Smile

vbus · 25/02/2012 19:31

Copper - well done! No idea about sex ed in our school Confused

Sfx - how are you feeling now?

DS1 better but now DS2 seems to have the same bug/cough/cold, typical. I don't feel brill either but that could be more due to a hangover and broken sleep Hmm

Fairly quiet day, my bro visited and take away tonight to keep things simple

Having difficulty getting DS1 to read his school reading book. What's wrong with these ORT books? Eg How can you manage to make a story involving cloning woolly mammoth dull? Answer: by confusing the issue with the issues of global warming , urban migration , and the abandoning of traditional techniques in favour of modern technology . How do you make a story involving bombs and wars and time-travel really really unappealing? You can't make it up. But he only has to get through a few more of these and then he'll be allowed to be free. Free!

UptoapointLordCopper · 25/02/2012 21:04

I mean Hmms, of course.

Watching Inspector Montalbano now. Smile

sfxmum · 25/02/2012 21:30

vbus hangover you say Grin sounds like a good day
I am ok thanks tired and aching and desperate to go running, just hope I sleep tonight, went out and about with dd

dh was sculling this morning at the same time that Oxford and Cambridge were practising, they were, apparently a bit faster than him Grin

copper dd is on chapter books so she can choose what she wants to read from the library, thankfully no more BIff and Chip

think will watch a dvd either start on an old box set I haven't yet watched or Winter's bone

UptoapointLordCopper · 26/02/2012 20:09

Hello!

Pub in the afternoon. Hangover now instead of tomorrow. Hmm

Can't stand this Oxford-Cambridge boat race business. 1) Whoever's heard of any credible race between just two teams? 2) Why don't they go and row in their own stupid little rivers?

Chapter books = normal books, no? DS1 and DS2 have normal-length books with chapters from the ORT stage whatever. They are tedious beyond words, though DS2 seems to quite like the Biff-and-Chip-go-time-travelling ones. May have to have a word with DS1's teacher...

vbus · 26/02/2012 20:17

Hope everyone had a nice weekend in the sun Smile

DS1 can choose whatever books he wants from school library and he still follows some reading scheme but we haven't had Biff and Chip for ages since reception, he has some other characters and stories are slightly better (story street).

Well hangover has worn off and I'm still feeling a bit rubbish so must have what DC have had [boo]

OP posts:
vbus · 26/02/2012 20:20

meant to add, DS1 books also have chapters and are fairly long and dull

OP posts:
sfxmum · 26/02/2012 20:53

think a lot of the books are dull anyway, I have gone through endless rainbow fairies stories, all very predictable with two perky heroines who are friends of the fairies who all seem very incompetent at doing their jobs and have to get the girl's help to solve problems

anyway I miss Harry Potter, she is also reading now The Little White Horse whihc frankly is alarmingly violent, anyway at least not boring

weekend lovely, took dd for a 5k loop training jog/ walk/ look at the scenery etc. looked gorgeous out

sfxmum · 26/02/2012 20:54

and vbus hope you don't get ill, it seems everyone I know is ill or on the brink

tillyfernackerpants · 27/02/2012 14:55

vbus, hope you're feeling better

sfx, how's the studying going? I'm Blush to admit it, but I already miss writing essays etc. I think I'll leave it a reasonable amount of time & then find some other course I can do!

Ds1 is still on ORT, but he actually seems to be enjoying them Confused. At any rate, getting him to read is no longer a battle and he's started picking out chapter books at home or from the library to read as well. So whilst they are deadly dull, they do seem to be working for him!

Have been to get material for ds1's book day costume. Unfortunately, my sewing ability is not great so fingers crossed I can manage it!

sfxmum · 27/02/2012 18:35

Hi Tilly I am enjoying the actual studying I am doing a level 2 module undergrad and I can feel the different volume and pace. But am going well on essays last one was 74% and if I am honest I barely prepared and wrote it in a couple of sittings
Good to know brain still works but not sure about direction of degree at the moment

I think I will continue studying something or other for many years to come I just really enjoy it Grin

sfxmum · 27/02/2012 18:36

Meant to add what costume are you aiming for? I am suppose to come up with Pippi Longstocking Hmm

UptoapointLordCopper · 27/02/2012 18:54

Hello!

We've done our World Book Day stuff and it's not even World Book Day yet. Grin Super efficient.

sfx - DS1 was quite taken with a Dragon of Wayward Crescent book, even though it has a "girly" cover. Both of them also like Judy Moody books. We were also given a set of "girly" books about a young cat who was going to cat witch school (Hmm probably harry potter but with cats) but they didn't want to touch the books, more due to the witch aspect than the "girliness", I think. I will one day persuade them to read Anne of Green Gables. Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 27/02/2012 18:55

I don't know why I can't persuade them to read Pippi Longstocking, seeing that they already like Astrid Lindgren for her Tomten books. It's all very mysterious.

vbus · 27/02/2012 20:30

Sfx - when we go to Sweden we can go to Astrid Lindgren world Grin

Tillly - that's great DS1's reading has improved

We are nearing end of dragon taming book, all v. exciting

Had a crazy day starting with Ds2 locking himself in bathroom and was trapped for half hour Shock, it all started at 8.40am just when I need to leave house for school run Shock Thankfully he eventually managed to unlock the door himself before I had to call someone to knock the door down.

Later today I had a message from best friend now living in Oz who said they were in London for the day so I jumped on train and had an excellent spontaneous afternoon downtown, so lovely to see friend Smile

Forgot to say I'm feeling alright today, bug must've passed. I'm just exhausted now from the day's drama!

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 27/02/2012 20:49

vbus, ds2 Shock glad he managed to let himself out!

sfx, I'm aiming for Hiccup the Viking (How to train your Dragon), got viking hat and some furry material for the vest & boots.

Would love the dses to read Pippi Longstocking, will give it a try soon I think. What are the Tomten books?

vbus · 27/02/2012 20:55

Tilly - it was pretty scary, I have a few more grey hairs as a result. Your Ds1 will look v.cool Smile

OP posts:
sfxmum · 27/02/2012 21:58

vbus how scary Shock was he calm? and what a nice surprise to see friend

tilly glad to hear ds1 is keener on books, I think if parents persist then it is a matter of time, when they are ready. bet he will look cute

apparently there are a few other Pippis including one in her class daughter of uber crafty woman, bugger!

vbus · 28/02/2012 10:14

Sfx - I'm sure DD will look fab. They don't ever do dress up day at our school, they hold a book fair instead. But we have to dress up/make stuff for other projects though. Well done on essay Smile

Tilly - did you get my reply?

Ds2 started crying after 10mins so that was the main challenge trying not to freak both kids out, to his credit he calmed down then but I was v. inwardly stressed as there was nothing I could do to open the door plus I needed to get to school. Aiming for much calmer day today

OP posts:
sfxmum · 28/02/2012 12:13

Vbus hope day goes well
I am off to Kingston, coughing too much to run, studied a bit but too restless

UptoapointLordCopper · 28/02/2012 21:08

Hello!

Tired today. Made chicken pie for tea - what a kerfuffle! But rather nice.

UptoapointLordCopper · 29/02/2012 10:11

Sacked cleaner. Shock Referred to the compass-in-hoover incident and asked her to be more careful next time and she launched into how she's the best cleaner around and did things other cleaners wouldn't do like hoover under furniture. Hmm I said if cleaning family house is not compatible with her convictions she should reconsider her position. Which she did.

Honestly.

sfxmum · 29/02/2012 12:57

oh dear copper, are you looking for another one?

went fr a run around Richmond park 11k not at my best still coughing too much but felt good to be out
