Hello

Just popping in and saw thread already full up! The craziness of November is well and truly under way. Sorry I'm behind on your news, hope everyone is well.

The scarf video, I thought she was going to hang herself for the final tie Grin

Still undecided about floor, have got loads of samples ordered. I want a fresh, modern look whereas Dh wants more clinical, utlitarian (sp?) look, need to find something that we both like Hmm

I've read Love in a Cold Climate but don't remember much of it.

Made fried buns type thing for tea. It turns out that little boys need to eat four each. Hmm Now there are only enough for packed lunch, which mercifully only require two each, apparently.

vbus · 09/02/2012 11:57

Hello

It's cold today, brrrr

Copper - I like your boys logic! You're making me hungry again ...tis nearly lunchtime though. Have you been watching heston programme? I tried his version of scrambled eggs the other day and was surprised to say they did taste better than my normal method of cooking.

Sfx - I want to read Mitford does sound interesting, on my growing booklist. Need to get Barnes book next Hmm

Also looking foward to half term, not too much planned. It will be nice not so much rushing around, especially if it does snow

vbus - I haven't watched any Heston. I do like him though, except when he cooks for Z-list celebrities. Why? But how does this scrambled eggs thing work? Or does it take too long to describe?

Fried bun thing is nice as packed lunch. May do more.

sfxmum · 09/02/2012 15:09

it is cold I went out for a short run after sending off the essay, blasted thing never should I leave it so late to finish, barely took head out of laptop/ books for the past 48hrs.

dd has after school club for another hr

copper I have read some of Nancy's fiction but I much prefer the letters and some auto biographies

vbus I must get hold of that at some point too. meanwhile I am enjoying listening to The Hobbit

sfxmum · 09/02/2012 15:11

how are scrambled eggs done, I do them differently from dh, he goes the English way and mixed milk in I do no such thing

vbus · 09/02/2012 16:13

Sfx - I do love the Hobbit, much more digestable than LOTR

The eggs thing is that you make them as you would (I don't use milk either!) but do it in a bowl over simmering water instead of in a pan. Because of this proteins are kept intact or something or other sciency that he explained, it makes eggs taste better. It is slower to cook this way but it worked! I like this series because you can actually do some his recipes at home

Kids straight home from school today, tv day as they are both tired

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 09/02/2012 18:57

Might try that scrambled egg method then. Does seem to make sense. Tell us other feasible ones so we don't have to watch the series! Grin

On that note, the telly is conking out. Not bad going - bought in 1995! What should we get next?

UptoapointLordCopper · 09/02/2012 19:03

Did anyone see the thread about how to eat rice with fork? How would anyone forrin stand a chance in this manners game? Grin

sfxmum · 09/02/2012 19:23

copper ours is as old as yours, we will replace it once the work situation is resolved, obviously not the first priority

vbus sounds like something to try

got rejected for job I applied for, not even an interview, apparently over qualified, I would like to be the one deciding that
I have been trying to remember if I have ever judged like that when recruiting, but don't think so, anyway search continues

vbus · 09/02/2012 20:29

Sfx - sorry to hear about rejection letter, the screening process is harsh Sad It means that something better will come along for you

Copper - LOL at thread! We also have same situation, a 'fat screen tv' as Dh calls it from 1998 Grin Hoping it will last til we get living room done which won't be any time soon.
Lots of gems on his programme, think I'll end up getting the book as can't remember all the best bits. Last week he threw me by making cheese sauce without any flour Shock My bro made the chilli and said it was delicious, so you'll just have to watch!

Early night for me, feel like I'm coming down with something but have no time to get ill so hope it will go away

OP posts:
vbus · 09/02/2012 20:54

forgot to say he divulged his recipe for triple cooked chips yesterday

When we went to Bavaria a few yrs back they staff at restaurant were Shock when ds1 used his fingers to eat. I find it hard to be strict about using cutlery when Indian food is eaten by hand Confused

OP posts:
sfxmum · 09/02/2012 21:12

vbus it was an email Shock oh the modernity of rejection Grin I am not too bothered it is only the first, something will come up

regarding sauce, there was a recipe on runners world where the sauce was made with puréed cauliflower

anyway must sit tomorrow and sort out a menu as I really need to loose some weight it is getting ridiculous and I am too slow now

vbus · 09/02/2012 21:20

Sfx - at least it wasn't by text Shock Grin

I'm going to make prawn pad thai tomorrow, haven't made it for ages.

copper - forgot to say Kids scoffed up all your cookies last wkend, thanks!

Right, really must head off to bed instead of surfing

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 09/02/2012 21:27

vbus - precisely. I demand that if my kids are going to eat with their fingers or any choice of cutlery they do it at least semi-properly. We grew up eating with spoon and fork, or chopsticks and spoon. Now when we have guests we just bung all the (mostly non-matching) cutlery on the table for people to pick and choose. Grin But we are quite civilised underneath, really. Smile May get the Heston book eventually. Still finding stuff to do in my current cookbooks.

sfx - bad luck. But probably don't want a job where they feel defensive about your qualifications. Hope something better comes along soon.

UptoapointLordCopper · 10/02/2012 12:56

Feeding the leaven. Smile Sourdough here we come! Well, in a couple of days ... Not exactly something you could do on an impulse, is it, this sourdough business?

sfxmum · 10/02/2012 13:51

do tell how it goes, really want to get one going

UptoapointLordCopper · 10/02/2012 15:13

I can grow some for you - the next stage requires dividing the stuff.

Kora · 10/02/2012 15:51

Wave to everyone, hope you are all well. Sorry to hear about job application sfx, I'm sure something else will come where you are appreciated for your experience! Smile

Finding it hard to concentrate on work this afternoon. Must get on with it. More Brew.

vbus · 10/02/2012 16:04

School finished yay! DS1 gutted all the snow had melted

This week has been bonkers, look forward to a more relaxing pace next week albeit we have to entertain class mascot

kora - hope you get your work done, maybe less Brew required Wink

Copper - do tell about sourdough when finished. Must do more breadmaking next week

OP posts:
sfxmum · 10/02/2012 18:37

copper thanks, will check how not to kill it afterwards

kora hope the rest of the day was productive

vbus dd was also quite annoyed at the lack of sledging potential

I am so pleased it is half term, we have quiet days planned with a few activities and visits to friends, hopefully all good and dd will get a chance to recovered from her ongoing cough

UptoapointLordCopper · 10/02/2012 19:01

sfx - I'm making the leaven according to The Handmade Loaf. Though feeding/keeping alive must be the same or at least similar for all leaven? Have you got the book? I can check mine for instructions. Will have to ferry it over to you at some point though. Sunday? Wednesday?

sfxmum · 10/02/2012 19:25

I have the Bertinet book Crust so should be ok, we will likely be out Wednesday going to the British Museum, no plans yet for Sunday shall have to see dh does not function on normal times, so will see

UptoapointLordCopper · 10/02/2012 21:10

We are getting new telly on Sunday, but should be done in the morning. Coffee at M&S if you can escape? Smile Otherwise can organise another day - probably Friday.

sfxmum · 10/02/2012 23:50

Ok will see how it works out Friday might actually be good if no gap on Sunday. We gloriously have no plans for the weekend

UptoapointLordCopper · 12/02/2012 11:46

sfx - leaven divided and fed, ready to use tomorrow. Will text you later.
