Hello

Just popping in and saw thread already full up! The craziness of November is well and truly under way. Sorry I'm behind on your news, hope everyone is well.

The scarf video, I thought she was going to hang herself for the final tie Grin

Still undecided about floor, have got loads of samples ordered. I want a fresh, modern look whereas Dh wants more clinical, utlitarian (sp?) look, need to find something that we both like Hmm

Mulling over carrot soup. DD1 says she doesn't like carrot soup. Any good recipes out there?!

UptoapointLordCopper · 04/02/2012 09:44

Carrot cake? I even have a recipe for carrot and courgette cake - can bring it tonight if you want. Or simply grate and add to savoury pancakes. Pancakes is your friend when it comes to using up fruits and vegetables. Smile

We had banana pancakes this morning because DS2 has taken a dislike to eating plain old bananas. Hmm

New credit card has arrived. But no longer pink. Sad

sfxmum · 04/02/2012 10:36

Kora bbcfood is your friend for freezer recipes soups useful and can be frozen.

Copper found your email in old account will email you

UptoapointLordCopper · 04/02/2012 11:09

sfx - got them! Thanks! It seems when you delete old numbers from your SIM you might not have quite deleted them ...

sfxmum · 05/02/2012 17:08

day of playing in the snow and keeping warm, busy week ahead, looking forward to trying the snow grips for my running shoes.

hope everyone is well

vbus · 05/02/2012 19:57

We had fun in snow too, street snowball flight, then went to park with friends for sledging and snowman killing spree, the DC not me I hasten to add Grin Friends left late afternoon just in time for footy, roll kids into bed and nearly take away time.

Sfx - thanks for text, sorry I did not reply, was about but got distracted and just realised that I didn't Blush

Kora - hope dd better today. Have you managed to use up the veg, noses for snowmen perhaps? You'll be pleased to hear that Tribe are touring in Spring Grin

OP posts:
Kora · 06/02/2012 15:01

Glad eveyone had fun in the snow! Vbus, no need to hide your snowball fighting skills Grin

The germ-laden clouds appear to be clearing at home. In fact DD2 far more energetic than me this morning - I'm rather wiped out! What about some gentle recovery time?! So sorry to miss out seeing you gals at the weekend. My dad very kindly brought me some cake yesterday as I also missed birthday sunday lunch. Nice to be the one being looked after sometimes... Smile Ah well, mustn't grumble, glad it wasn't worse Brew

Still have too much veg in the house despite making loads of carrot soup (had extra time on my hands stuck at home!). Quite nice, but not enough to encourage future mega orders of veg. DD1 didn't like it as predicted!

Vbus - Ooh a gig. Now that might be just what the doctor ordered...

tillyfernackerpants · 06/02/2012 20:40

Hi everyone, sorry about having to bail out on Saturday. Had been ill through the night so didn't want to pass anything on. Feeling better now thankfully!

Dses didn't enjoy the snow as much as everyone else seemed to. They went out into the garden, built one snowman, then came back in & refused to go out again because it was too cold Grin.

Kora · 06/02/2012 21:51

Poor you Tilly, sounds rough. Glad you're feeling better. I kind of know what your DSs mean. I like the snow... but I'm ready for spring...

sfxmum · 07/02/2012 10:00

Tilly hope it is all more settled now

Kora nice daddy you have there Smile

here dd continues with the cough but nothing major, managing to sleep, I seem to have picked up some cough and sore throat but not the really horrible kind, just annoying.
writing essay today and tomorrow would like to do better than last time, I am aiming for 80% but might be too lazy to put in the work

hope everyone is having a good day, looks lovely out now, might fit in some running, would do my head some good

UptoapointLordCopper · 07/02/2012 16:02

Hello!

Tilly - sorry for the slightly panicky text on Saturday night. Grin DSs were not too keen on snow when they were smaller either. DS2 especially was very wary of it. Now they make snow monsters.

DS1 has handed in his Roman project so we can clear the entire kitchen table of cardboard. He forgot the no-elephant sign though...

Been to office and back. Two more days of office. I'm tired now. When is the weekend?

vbus · 07/02/2012 19:22

Hello all

Kora - glad you are all feeling better and hope you are making up for missed celebrations, belated happy birthday Wine

Tilly - hope you're on the mend too

Sfx- hope you managed to fit in a run, nice day for it

Copper - have you got time off at half term?

Had a good day apart from locking myself it after lunch Shock Blush Bizarrely I had what I needed apart from keys, so went to friend's then picked up DS1 and took him to therapy session. DH was able to meet us as he wasn't in Watford today and give me his key so I was back home at 5.30pm, phew. It could've been a lot worse!

OP posts:
vbus · 07/02/2012 19:23

sorry should've read 'locking myself out'

OP posts:
islandhaze · 07/02/2012 20:22

Vbus, we have an extra set of keys hidden outside the house. I have already used them 5 times in 6 months...

Hope everybody is having a calm and cozy night :) And getting ready for more snow to come on Friday Grin

vbus · 07/02/2012 20:47

Island - LOL 1st thing I'm going to do is take spare set to neighbour's tomorrow. My parents have a spare set but I left my bag inside house so I didn't have keys to their house to retrieve spares, d'oh

Is there really more snow on it's way??

We had parents evening yesterday. DS1 is a true geek

OP posts:
sfxmum · 07/02/2012 21:39

vbus we have a set of spares at neighbours and we have theirs, I expect coming into building not too hard as burglars seem to have no difficulty with that
our parent evening is not until March when they will be nearing end of SATs
geek is cool Smile

island yeah for snow again

no running and apart from organising notes and sorting plan I have not yet really started essay, I expect tomorrow I will not go to bed much.
feeling run down and shivery off to bed soon
I must run a couple of miles tomorrow, unless I get a fever, being stuck indoors drives me nuts.

so looking forward to half term

hope everyone is feeling ok now

UptoapointLordCopper · 07/02/2012 22:08

sfx - nearly half way through the Murakami book now. So odd!

sfxmum · 08/02/2012 09:37

copper I will tell you what I thought of it once you finish it
I continue reading Independent People and now listening to The Hobbit
But I am back to sorting out essay dreary dreary

UptoapointLordCopper · 08/02/2012 09:53

I have The Honourable Schoolboy which I haven't started listening to yet. With 1Q84 I've got to the point where the Little People appeared. Spooky! Can't wait to get home to read it!

DS2 forgot his lunchbox. Had to rush back to get it and ended up just a bit late.

tillyfernackerpants · 08/02/2012 10:06

Copper, which Murakami book are you reading? I need inspiration, keep going back to the same authors & books. Just read Stephen King's latest book which was very good, he seems to be back on form again

Vbus, glad you managed to get in the house. I locked myself out last month & had to get dh to come home early, we sheltered in the library Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 08/02/2012 10:16

tilly: 1Q84. Big fat books, 3 volumes... But easy to read.

Just finished reading a student report that is utterly disappointing. Sad

sfxmum · 08/02/2012 10:20

Murakami has a thing about breasts and some odd ideas about women sometimes

Tilly have you read Jeffrey Eugenides? I loved The Virgin Suicides, have Middlesex somewhere and was given The marriage Plot for Christmas so might get into it next.

If you haven't read the Mitfords all the letters I would recommend

tillyfernackerpants · 08/02/2012 11:20

Thanks Copper, will look that up. Sfx, I have read the Virgin Suicides, which I loved but couldn't get into Middlesex. May try again. And will look up the Mitford letters, sounds intriguing

UptoapointLordCopper · 08/02/2012 11:48

Murakami has pretty odd ideas about almost everything ...

It's snowing here.

sfxmum · 08/02/2012 12:01

snowing a bit here too

copper the sex thing always makes me wonder it sort of spoiled one of my favourite moments in the book. maybe it is just old men writing about sex it often makes me cringe

tilly The Mitford letter are interesting partly because they provide a historical and psychological insight into a family, all the girls are so different coming from the same background, it is interesting to read of first hand accounts of historical events and they all write pretty well and are often very funny
