OP posts:
sfxmum · 12/12/2010 14:04

how can middle age be anything other than disgraceful?
Grin

anyway I don't really like Sundays in Winter

vbus · 12/12/2010 18:11

Hello all

hello Stevie Xmas Smile - tell us bit about yourself. I'm in Teddington and have 2 boys (5&2yrs) and am SAHM. This thread does indeed help me stay somewhat sane

Dusty - good for you, let's hope boss sticks to her resolve

Sfx - enjoy gig Xmas Envy

Westwing - well done on dress purchase, how is DS now?

I just have one piece of advice, if you're planning a night out best not to go to gym the following morning in case you're super tired and lose concentration and fall off the treadmill. This obviously did not happen to me this morning Xmas ShockXmas Blush but just thought I'd warn you all not to try that one, could be very embarrassing

UptoapointLordCopper · 12/12/2010 18:57

Hello all!

Hello Stevie. Xmas Smile I'm not that side of the river even but they let me join in now and then so obviously not a picky bunch. Xmas Grin Of course that's not to say you are not the creme de la creme though...

vbus - hope you didn't seriously injure yourself when you didn't fall off the treadmill.

One more week of school!

Kora · 12/12/2010 22:58

Hi everyone! Hope everyone is well and welcome Stevie - I've recently discovered delights of MNers on this thread, they are fabulous.

Vbus, very impressed that you made it to gym after a night out, so it doesn't really matter what happened on the treadmill (evil contraptions anyway). I had a night out at beginning of last week and I'm sure my current persistent sore throat/cough is symptomatic of shock of being out of the house. Just about managed to see a few friends this weekend as hopefully no longer spreadable lurgee and I didn't want to cancel more things. Lemsip Max has seen me through. I didn't quite lose my voice, to consternation relief of all involved.

Sfx - enjoy your gig, you must report back to spread the experience. I'd love to go to a gig next year, used to go loads, so let me know if you find anything interestng. I like lots of different things, but mainly alternative/indie/rock/folk (which might make you run a mile, but it's just a thought!)

Stepford, sympathies about MIL. As nice as they might be, it's hard to be on best behaviour all the time... Vent away.

Hope everyone's last week of school and lead-up to Christmas etc goes well. Next week I'm welcoming and supposedly training new nanny in readiness for going back to work, but my impression is that she's far more capable than I am. I'm also going into office on Wednesday, bit nervous, but hopefully can mask feelings that I've forgotten everything and then I can read up a bit over Christmas hols... Realised I will really miss my girls, although I'm lucky to be able to work a bit from home (which, Dusty, really really helps with work/life balance so go for it with your boss). I've been watching Any Human Heart on telly (I'm one week behind on recorded versions so no spoilers please) but I keep weeping buckets so I think I'm feeling a bit emotional. So glad got Christmas in between to bury myself in family stuff before the new working year begins. Take care everyone. Smile

sfxmum · 13/12/2010 00:03

hello all

vbus oh no was it just ego bruised? well done for going I must do some running tomorrow, if I manage to dispatch the child to school

kora hope nanny training goes well. the music genres noted are right up my street and I have been out with vbus and tilly to different things, we would all like to repeat the experience, it is not always possible/ desirable to go with dh Grin

have also been watching Any Human Heart, very good adaptation I think and it has 'Tom' the best Spook ever Xmas Grin

lordcopper amen to last week of school, can't wait to be on my way up north

but tilly vbus you must watch Misfits and catch up with Being Human I weep to think these things get American remakes

off to bed just as soon as I settle, gig was a riot, tired as we were we managed to sing and dance

sfxmum · 13/12/2010 00:08

oh ok just one more

Xmas Wink
vbus · 13/12/2010 09:13

Sfx - glad you enjoyed gig!
Yes only pride was injured after gym Blush Must've somehow really dozed off zoned out and forgot what I was doing Grin

Kora - yay to music tastes. Hope there will be more gigs next yr too. Must be tough having to go back to work. Good luck with nanny training and work visit on Weds

Just to say DS1 off school again today. He spent most of wkend practically asleep. He did feel bit better yesterday but is so weak not eaten much. Anyway we were meant to go to Harrods today for magical winter wonderland at 2.30pm. Gutted we can't go Sad but if anyone wants the tickets just let me know, would be shame to waste them.

sfxmum · 13/12/2010 09:48

dd home too today has a temperature, dh spreading germs at work

sofa day I think

vbus I hope yours feel better soon

vbus · 13/12/2010 10:14

Hope Dd feels better soon
Yes tv/sofa day for us too

odetothewestwing · 13/12/2010 12:11

vbus - lol at your little episode! But - hats off to you for gyming it after a night out!

Hope all ill people are better soon, best to try and get everything out of the way before Christmas.

Kora, sounds as though you have a great nanny starting, I'm sure that everyone will settle in to the new routine very quickly and you will probably enjoy being back at work Xmas Envy But completely normal to feel somewhat apprehensive in the weeks leading up to the change.

Am on here browsing when what I really need to be doing is finishing the cards and starting on other things! Maybe I'll pop back later Smile

vbus · 13/12/2010 17:35

Bored, bored, bored
If DS1 has agood night's sleep tonight then hoping he'll go back to school tom, just in time for dress rehearsal!

Westwing - is your big night out in london coming up? Coincidentally, we are off to your neck of woods to visit BIL/SIL on Saturday.

School doesn't finish til 21st, what about everyone else?

sfxmum · 13/12/2010 17:46

I'll see your triple bored and raise you a couple more

dd's temp seems under control no other symptoms, school it is I hope, also it is my aunt's actual birthday and I would like to go and have lunch with her

school last day is Friday, thankfully

dh should be home soon, shall eat something quick and simple and hopefully be in bed before 9pm, that for me is super early, child needs to be in well before 8

off to in laws on the 23rd, can't wait

vbus · 13/12/2010 20:25

Just waiting for Dh to get back then I'm off to bed too, don't want to be next on the illness front (DS2 now got cough & cold) plus I'm exhausted.

Going to France on 21st when school breaks up, it has come round so fast

Enjoy Aunt's birthday lunch

UptoapointLordCopper · 13/12/2010 21:26

Hello!

Hope all are well and ill LOs are getting better. Not bored as such but bored of mess in house.

UptoapointLordCopper · 13/12/2010 21:27

Is anyone watching Hugh thingummy and the gingerbread house? They've got a box inside for support!!! That's cheating. AND they haven't got a t-rex inside the house.

sfxmum · 14/12/2010 08:24

wouldn't the T-Rex hold it up? Xmas Grin

bed early but woke several times, now feeling mean as dd is dressed and ready but protesting that I am a very mean mummy making her go to school when she feels poorly, cue a few more symptoms listed Hmm
we shall see might not make it to auntie's after all

odetothewestwing · 14/12/2010 12:57

Copper - how does one make a gingerbread house? You made one last year, didn't you? I really fancy doing one this year.

The Christmas trips sound good - so much preparation beforehand of course but hopefully well worth it.

SFX, hope dd is feeling better soon. I think they are all just SO TIRED at the moment. I am having to turf dd out of bed at the latest possible time every morning and this is following a full 12 hours of unbroken sleep! We are all looking forward to a big old relaxing time over the next fortnight.

Managed to finish all my CHristmas shopping this morning while ds was at nursery 'with all my friends' this morning. Erm - and also managed to purchase for myself ANOTHER dress, oh dear oh dear what is going on! Middle age seems to be here and it's all about frocks now rather than jeans. Except it's another rather body con dress and so have had to purchase some big holdy-in pants lol!

UptoapointLordCopper · 14/12/2010 13:14

Hello!

Westwing - we just found the simplest template for gingerbread house online (might have been this one and used our usual gingerbread recipes (everyone has their own usual gingerbread recipes, don't they? Xmas Hmm). We used melted sugar (caramel?) as glue rather than icing. We just used a butter knife to stick things on rather than nozzles and stuff. Must more like building, IFKWIM. Watch the size of the gingerbread house though - it wasn't very big but there was A LOT of gingerbread ... Oh and we had a t-rex inside.

We are not doing a gingerbread house this year. We are doing the Christmas cake. DS2 wants a pink t-rex on it. DS1 wants it pink. Whoever heard of a pink t-rex. Xmas Hmm

Inspired by Westwing I also bought a new jumper/dress type thing. And it's not grey!!!

UptoapointLordCopper · 14/12/2010 13:15

DS1 wants a green t-rex, for the sake of accuracy.

sfxmum · 14/12/2010 15:02

hello

westwing well done you, do those magic knickers really work?, no bulges? I quite fancy a kind Rouland Mouret type dresses but never quite feel brave enough

gingerbread houses = Ikea

managed to get dd to school she said it was great and wanted to stay all day + her after school disco club, I stayed around to read with a few kids, popped to town got to aunties' for her birthday lunch and the school called
to pick up dd who was crying and tired, classroom looked like an hospital ward Shock will keep her home tomorrow I think

coffee and cookie for me now

sfxmum · 14/12/2010 15:08

westwing found this

sfxmum · 14/12/2010 15:09

oops same oneXmas Grin

vbus · 14/12/2010 15:31

Copper - When is Hugh's programme on? might try one next year

Sfx - poor DD, how is she now? DS1 better and went to school and dress rehearsal was sweet. Now DS2 turn to be misery Sad

Westwing/Copper - what's with all the dress buying? Xmas Envy would buy more if I had opportunity to wear them, will stick to jeans!

Making Christmas cards over here, glitter all the way

sfxmum · 14/12/2010 16:02

vbus dd is ok thanks eyes half closed stuffing chocolate cupcakes in her mouth, asked me to pop into marks on the way home because ''something chocolaty will always make me feel better...'' Hmm

hope yours are ok too, it is awful out there lots of nasties about

must coordinate with the 'hospital' upstairs her dh and children are also poorly, we must find the time to give each other a break for exercise

odetothewestwing · 14/12/2010 17:16

Liking those gingerbread house links! Feel a crafty baking session coming on.

Vbus, tis not that I have much opportunity to wear dresses - but have decided that I am just going to wear them anyway! Obviously not TOO dressy for the school run! Fed up with all my knackered old gear and want to look and feel a bit nicer. Also, I find that when I DO go out, my jeans are all quite wrecked so the 'jeans plus nice top' option is a bit more tricky. Find it much easier to sling on a dress and bob's your uncle!

Just finished a glueing and sticking sesh here, tea beckons now.

SFX, hope dd is better soon, there is LOADS going round. At least you can share it with another mum, so to speak and get out for a break as otherwise it's tough eh?
