Hadn't realised we were so close to filling up the last thread, hope you all find it!!

Think 3 people died in that A30 accident Sad

Dire weather here, too - ds was NOT amused on the school run! A 5.20am start did not help the proceedings!

We had dd's party at home at the weekend - 9 children in total and I have to say they enjoyed it - but it was MAYHEM! I felt like a rabbit caught in the headlights! So glad it is over, it was what dd wanted etc etc but deffo the last one we do at home apart from a small one for ds this year. Phew!

Am coasting down to bedtime with a bit of Fireman Sam! And then perhaps finish the WEst Wing tonight! What WILL I do , what will life post-West Wing be like?!? Has anyone watched 24? Thought we might start that next.

Anyone been to see the Colin FIrth movie yet?

UptoapointLordCopper · 17/01/2011 18:44

I only found out in the news when I was stuck in the traffic. Two vehicles colliding, but three dead. SadSad

We had party at home too. I swore I wasn't going to cook for the next three weeks, but already cooked at breakfast for DS1's and my packed lunches. If you haven't tried it - try this: chicken fillet grilled with mayonnaise+soya sauce+parmesan cheese topping. It sounds unlikely but it was yummy cold. Takes only 10 minutes from start to finish (cooking, I mean. Eating takes considerably less time.)

tillyfernackerpants · 17/01/2011 19:51

Copper, that sounds really nice. I struggle sometimes to find different ways to cook chicken that might appeal to the ds's.

I'm soooo tired tonight. Ds1 going through a bed wetting phase again & I always seem to end up on the sofa at 5am.

Westwing, only seen the first series of 24 but it was enjoyable (if a little farfetched at times!). Have the 2nd series to watch but I would like to see West Wing as well.

OP posts:
vbus · 17/01/2011 20:37

Westwing - I just have the last season left to watch of 24. I do like it although the seasons do start getting a bit formulaic but thrilling stuff nonetheless. Glad party went well, have you recovered yet? Wink

Tilly - hope you have a better night

Copper - How's the music going? DS1 has to learn a new skill for school by end of next wk, might try and teach him a tune on his keyboard

Ashamed to say we had a very shouty bedtime Blush, nothing in particular but lots of annoying incidents strung close together. Think I'm just tired after busy wkend and DS2 also waking early, I'm really not a morning person

sfxmum · 17/01/2011 20:45

westwing I never really liked 24 watched the first couple of series for the novelty but I soon found it objectionable all the justifications for torture
there is actually quite a lot of good telly about, mostly genre which is not everyone's cup of tea
I like the wire I know it became fashionable to like it but it is very good
Mad men very good writing good characters
Justified for the crush on leading man Blush
Brothers& sisters all terribly glamorous, dramatic and unlikely
now if only you liked genre telly there is gold out there well written gold

BSG pure genius telly, political, humane, thoughtful

vbus · 18/01/2011 13:08

Hello all

Tilly - nice to see you both earlier, glad DS2 much better and hope your journey back was better than arrival Smile

Will start thread on night out, seriously overdue!

vbus · 18/01/2011 13:13

sign up!

sfxmum · 19/01/2011 09:39

good morning people

someone give me some motivation please, think will pop out now for a jog see if I get some energy

vbus does that mean your dh's hand is better?

am struggling with lunch box food, I make stuff dd refuses and wants the same over and over againHmm

vbus · 19/01/2011 13:15

Sfx - heading your way Grin Hope you got out and about, it's a lovely day but cold.

I'm utterly amazed Ds1 has eaten everything I've given in his lunchbox (not sure how long this will last but I'm enjoying it while it does). I've just been rotating his faves and asking him what he wants so he doesn't get bored. You've probably tried it but maybe get DD to make up her own lunchbox together with you and she might take more interest in it?

Dh's hand is better thanks but has not completely healed, he just has normal plaster on it now with steristrips underneath, think he might have to wait for new skin to grow to cover the cut...Hmm

For some insane reason (having been awake since 4.30am Shock) I decided to walk to Kingston hospital today as I had time to kill between drop off and DS2 appointment. Walk was good but so tired now, feel a snooze coming on!

sfxmum · 19/01/2011 14:20

vbus thank you, I have been while it was still morning, very pretty out by the river, bit muddy but nevermind Grin

why the very early start?
walking is good and nap even better

I suppose I should be grateful that she actually eats what I send the cheese/tuna sandwich or pasta pesto/tuna saladHmm Have made cheesy scones and fruity muffins which she will eat at home but not take to school, because 'the others will say it is a sweet and we are not allowed sweets in lunchboxes' anyway variety goes with the fruit and yoghurt.

so many odd rules with luchboxes and the school dinners have pasties, cake with custard, ice cream and so on

UptoapointLordCopper · 19/01/2011 16:26

Hello!

Been at meetings and meetings. Walked home through park with kids - mud all round due to planting seeds in muddy footpath. Hmm

sfx - lunch menu looks decent enough. Makes life easy - Monday tuna sandwich Tuesday pasta pesto etc. Grin Our school sends out letters re "healthy lunchbox" but no enforcing as far as I know, if DC's stories are to be believed Grin. The correct way to go, I think. No need to try to understand rules - made up by nutcases.

UptoapointLordCopper · 19/01/2011 21:19

Watching Indiana Jones. What fun it is!

sfxmum · 19/01/2011 21:30

I really like the first one must have watched it about 10x when it first came out

think will try and get an early night and read my book
course work is depressing, had to listen to some audio that was really upsetting, funny how some things bother me more after becoming a parent, anyway at least it was sunny, I manage a jog and chat with friends

UptoapointLordCopper · 20/01/2011 11:20

sfx - Sad about coursework. Professional hazards?

Made bacon sandwich for DS1 lunch. What a mistake. Crave bacon sandwich now.

tillyfernackerpants · 20/01/2011 12:20

sfx, I'm sure I've told you before but ds1 has the same thing every day near enough. Today he did ask for a cheese sandwich which makes a change from houmous. I don't mind because at least he eats it all & then make sure he has variety at home.

And don't get me started on healthy lunchboxes! Ds1 usually has a small flapjack or something once or twice a week but has been told it isn't healthy Hmm. I told him to ignore it & that it doesn't matter Grin

Hello

Sfx - it's same here, those having school dinners get a pudding so I don't think they can be too strict on packed lunchers. School policy is that no choc or fizzy drinks allowed in lunchbox so as far as I'm concerned anything else goes Grin

Hope your course starts to be a bit more uplifting

Copper - I do love Indiana Jones films too, watched them a thousand times and never get bored of them

Just found out the place I'm going to sat night serves drinks in teacups, should be interestingHmmGrin

Not sure why that keep happening, messages posted twice Confused

UptoapointLordCopper · 20/01/2011 13:25

Bought herring roe Shock. Dinner with kids should be interesting. Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 20/01/2011 13:25

vbus - any drinks in teacup or just tea? Grin

vbus · 20/01/2011 13:31

They only serve alcohol/cocktails in tea cup, not tea Grin

stepfordwife · 20/01/2011 14:59

vbus..i recently went to a party where alcohol was served in cups..
it was a squat....(get me! down with the kids...groan).

but it wasn't like the squats i remember from 80s parties....it was all very civilised and neat. squat lite.
hope everyone well
busy with deadlines and draeded tax return.
toodlepip

tillyfernackerpants · 20/01/2011 16:00

lol at squat lite!

OP posts:
sfxmum · 20/01/2011 16:55

squat lite past 40 is terribly hipGrin any running water or flushing toilet?

tilly / vbus the guidelines at ours include no nuts not chocolate no crisps no fizz only natural fruit juice, not sure what they mean I send smoothies
but also they say things like use brown bread, low fat fillings etc followed but pizza slice is acceptable, presumably a cold one, should prepare them for a life at uni

copper it is all part of the work I do (did) nothing new only sometimes can be upsetting, was following Riven's story as well, I met many many parents in her situation, we provided respite as well a home support and residential care, the situation was not easy when I was there and I can't imagine it will improve.
parental tars despair and tiredness is nothing new, really sad, we have so many worries with out healthy and not particularly demanding children, imagine caring for one with severe disabilities, it breaks my heart and makes me quite angry too

and breath rant over

teacups? how very prohibition chic, do you have to use subterfuge too and pour little flask in discrete fashion?

vbus · 20/01/2011 18:13

Steppie - {grin] at civilised squat!

Are you coming out with us?

Sfx - think this bar is a converted bunker from what I've heard so could be quite interesting to say the least

DS2 is officially a nutter (although a cute one!). I made lemon chicken tonight so he was in the kitchen and helped me squeeze the lemons. He kept tasting the lemon saying it was nice then went off to play. What I didn't realise was that he'd taken half a squeezed lemon and came back 20mins later to reveal he'd eaten most of it, peel and all Shock yuk yuk yuk!
