Poor rumbletum - she still sounds so positive. I hope it lasts.

SSSandy2 · 29/05/2008 11:31

oh hopefully Hannover is totally diff in that regard.

boy I am weird these days, all funny and tearful and I don't know why exactly. Wonder if this is menopause?! Bit early for that though. Wonderign also if I am a bit depressed and whether it would make sense seeing a doctor about it. What would they do though? I mean they see all these people with horrible painful diseases and you come in and say "I lack energy and I'm feeling all weird and tearful" and they say "yes? And...?"

OP posts:
SSSandy2 · 29/05/2008 11:33

maybe I should buy some shoes.

Did you get any in the end?

OP posts:
admylin · 29/05/2008 12:10

No shoes yet but I might go tomorrow _ I've put m yfate in the hands of a friend and told her she has to hand me dresses into the changing room until I find one! Depends on my mood though, if it's anything ´like today I might as well not bother!

You can still go and get some tests done if you're feeling low energy etc. I did last year when I was exhausted - felt like I had that burn out syndrome (which probably isn't even a recognized syndrome in Germany) and had the thyroid levels tested and a few other things at the same time. I think in the end I'd has a virus. You have to tell the doc exactly what you want tested. I'm having trouble with my legs feeling sore and they look abit swollen at the bottom ankle part - if it's the warm weather then I will probably die this summer when it gets even hotter but it isn't nice so I shold go and see if there is anything wrong maybe.

hupa · 29/05/2008 12:37

I can really sympathise with you admylin about the rude Arzthalferin. When dh took over his practice from his father there was one Arzthelferin who was just so incredibly rude to the patients and to the other staff to be honest. Dh had a couple of chats with her, but she really couldn´t see that there was anything wrong with her attitude. He ended up making her redundant which cost him a fortune because she´d been there about 20 years. It was worth it though because the atmosphere improved enormously as soon as she´d gone.

I´ve also got to find a new Frauenarzt. My last one was lovely, but he died of cancer. I then went to another who tried to convince me to get the Mirena coil. She spent ages telling me about how she had one and it was fantastic because she could have sex whenever and wherever without having to give it a moments thought. Maybe it was my British prudery, but it really wasn´t what I was expecting to hear. I´ll try someone new next time.

admylin · 29/05/2008 12:43

I know it is hard to find doctors - same with kinderarzt we don't like the one here in Berlin - had a great one in south Germany. Now starting all over agian with Hannover. Will have to find dentists and everything new, sigh. Feeling down today and I've got my stress-tummy ache which atleast means I can't eat much so might get thinner atleast!

SSSandy2 · 29/05/2008 14:43

how difficult for your dh hupa. I am stupefied at times at the kind of rudeness people seem to think is acceptable. I don't know it would just never have occurred to me that I could speak so rudely to people at work. It really would never have crossed my mind, I think even if someone had been spectacularly rude to me, I wouldn't have thought of being rude back. Don't know these days though.

Admylin I had a quick look at dresses today with you in mind before I picked dd up. I didn't see anything I could imagine you wanting to wear to a wedding. There are some quite nice dresses but made of thick cotton whihc would travel badly and be a pain to iron every time. otherwise a lot of big flowers and maybe just a bit too much for your colouring. What do you have in mind? I saw a peachy one in Wertheim which was quite nice and might suit someone with very pale skin. Just with white dots, and not too revealing or OTT.

Admylin, I'm afraid I have a problem again with the s*, and I don't know how to handle it. I just fell apart when I saw their letter. Do you mind if I email you? I know you have an awful lot on right now but I wondered if you could give me an outsider's view?

OP posts:
SSSandy2 · 29/05/2008 14:44

sorry I meant to say with pale HAIR not SKIN. Makes you sound like a ghost

OP posts:
admylin · 29/05/2008 19:41

SSSandy, tell me about it - it's been too quiet recently, so we are due abit of trouble really from S* email me if you like. Our old thread has gone I think, can't find it anyway.

I might go and have a look at dresses tomorrow. Have been and got the stubble off my legs so I can atleast try things. Contemplated putting abit of light fake tan on too but then thought better of it, too tired. Off to bed early tonight. Isn't it sad - at about 8pm I start to really look forwrad to going to bed the sooner the better.

SSSandy2 · 29/05/2008 20:06

Well done getting the stubble off. I did it with dh's razor yesterday and slashed my heels so can only wear open backed sandals atm.

I sent you an email admylin with the letter. Please tell me your honest opinion. I know I am a wreck these days, feel I cannot cope with anything more related to the s*, just can't (although NN has it so much worse, I'm ashamed to say). I just broke down and cried (in front of dd even). I feel like calling tomorrow and saying she will not be returning

I had a look in about 4 shops for dresses and I didn't see much that was flattering. There are a lot of big flower prints but I don't think that's what you want for the wedding. Some very unflattering looking shapes and a lot of yellow. Why yellow? Do you have anything particular in mind, shape or colour?

OP posts:
taipo · 29/05/2008 22:26

Sssandy, I'm sorry you're having s* related trouble again. I hope you can sort things out. If you feel up to posting any details on the other thread I will be happy to give you my opinion. I think I need to go and post an answer on the primary school thread but what to say??

I totally sympathise with you admylin over the Arzthelferin. I think they are a breed apart in any country. I am sick of begging to get an appointment at a time which will suit me, although actually I think it was worse in London than here. So far, I've been really very pleasantly surprised about how friendly people are here because it is so different to other parts of Germany I've lived in. You still get your stuff thrown at you at the supermarket checkout but at least it's done with a smile and the other customer don't tut at you when you can't bag it up quickly enough.

finknottle · 30/05/2008 07:09

Sandy - mail me about the school stuff too. We're not doing doing any better with poor s2 - you're not alone!

berolina · 30/05/2008 08:58

hello all

Sorry so many are feeling down Sandy, they do Psychosomatik here - you could prob go to them without having to commit to therapy. I go to the Friedenau one for all doctors except gyn , and they're very good in general. You can sound off to me about s* if you like. petrovafossil a t gmx d o t de

Admylin, I'm sorry I didn't email you re the flat. It looks like we have decided to stay in SW Berlin - the pre-school ds1 is probably going to after summer next year is down here (I considered the be smart academy but it did frighten me off) and I would miss the botanic garden badly. We were going to look at a Remise in Lichterfelde but not heard back yet.

berolina · 30/05/2008 08:59

admylin email if you need any moving help! dh has a thing about being a fabulous oganiser, and depending on his commitments might be able to take some time out.

SSSandy2 · 30/05/2008 09:52

Thanks everyone, thank goodness for the German Corner is all I can say. Very very tired today, so will try and sleep for an hour or two before I have to pick dd up.

I will check that out Bero, thanks for the link. I've been meaning to ask you for ages too, would you like dd's old bike for your ds. Somewhere I have trainer wheels if he needs them, it's blue and silver, in good nick. We could drive it round if you wanted it, it's just cluttering up the garage atm.

Taipo I am a bit wary of posting all the details that's why I'm being so idiotically cryptic about it. You'll see I lost my restraint on the primary school thread. Poor rumbletum

Finks thanks so much, I've mailed you. Must stop dragging down the thread. Bero is right , a lot of glumness on here at the moment, wonder if it is in the air but I heard we are due for a stupefyingly hot weekend. Hope everyone has something nice planned! I plan to sleep personally

finknottle · 30/05/2008 10:50

Sandy have mailed you back

Gripe away on the German Schools thread, 'tis what it was invented for Do understand about personal details etc but generalised searing anger can be cathartic...

Have just put my 2 cts worth for rumbletum on her thread.

SSSandy2 · 30/05/2008 12:12

Thanks so much finks, the voice of reason as always

Have to go in there now, imagine my enthusiasm! At least I far too tired to feel angry or anything. I do hope I don't encounter the teachers though, can't face them today

OP posts:
ErnestTheBavarian · 30/05/2008 14:11

On stirct instructions, I am popping in very briefly to say a quick hello.

Been in Bavaria nearly a month

Love Munich. Really a lot. A bit like Switzerland but more beery. Not that I can do that, but beergarten still fun, maybe more so, sober.

Baby due in 10 days

Boys at IS, ds3 start German KG in September.

Got a strict letter today informing me that ds1 & 2 are chulpflichtig As if I'd have all 3 at home for no good reason. Must let them know.

Dh lost tax card, and local Gemeinde very nice and friendly. Unlike barking woman in baby shop today.

It is too hot tho. ALthough Milan would be hotter, so must look on bright side.

finknottle · 30/05/2008 14:57

Glad all's well.
Rather envious of your beer gardens but we do have Weinstuben and the Weinfest season is upon us. German beer is a Very Fine Thing. I love visiting Bavaria - that's not a hint btw!

Are you sorted re hospital/midwife etc.?

When If you get a chance, rumbletum's moving back from Singapore to Germany and started the German Primary Schools thread - maybe you could give her your impressions of the International school. Hope it's not as pricey as the only one in our area (would be 34,000 euros a year for our 3) and tbh think it's not up to much.

Good to see you, am sure your Hintern's lovely not at all Bavarian...have you got yer Dirndl (sp?) yet?

admylin · 30/05/2008 18:16

I mailed you SSSandy - the cheek of it eh? Anyway hope you have a nice weekend, stay in the cool flat as it's going to be a scorcher.

Welcome Ernest, sounds as if you've settled in nicely! Have the boys found plenty of friends? 10 days and counting, you'll find the hospitals and health care is excellent in Germany, it's at the top of my list when I try to convince myself not to pack up and return to the UK. I don't miss the NHS at all.

Berolina, don't worry about emailing. The garden is nice here but the 3rd floor is a drag especially as you've got 2 small babes! I am doing quite well with my move and getting organized. The Mietvertag came today so was pleased that the Makler wasn't a con man after all. The deposit for the new flat is alot less tahn we thought it would be, we've saved 2 weeks double rent as they've let us have the new place from 15th of August instead of 1st of August and the removal company is doing the whole move for 790 Euro which is less than i though itwould be so all in all we should be quite content with how things have worked out!

Right now my problem is finding a dress - awful dresses in the shops today, all bright yellow or black or flowery. I'm not pastel pinks, pale blues but not red or black either. It is going to be really hard to find something so if any of you have any online tips then feel free to post them on here so I can have a look! My friend and I walked our feet off and nearly melted getting back in time to pick the dc up from school. And my feet are swollen with this heat so no point even trying shoes on.

admylin · 30/05/2008 18:19

By the way - where is our old school thread? Anyone know where it is? I didn't save it.

SSSandy2 · 30/05/2008 19:17

Thanks for your mail admylin. Good to hear your thoughts. The German school thread is here on living overseas just slipped quite far down

Well, I picked her up without beheading anyone today and we went into the forest, built a den, had a picnic and it was quite relaxing. Forest is just a short walk from the school. Perhaps I should do that more often, just go sit in a forest for a while.

Good to see you Ernest. So we can do a countdown now. Excellent. Glad you like Munich.

Wasn't it sweltering today though? Ugh. Wondering if finks' garden is starting to resemble the Gobi desert.

OP posts:
SSSandy2 · 30/05/2008 19:21

Admylin what I find tricky with dresses is you really need to try them on. Maybe they're tight round the hips and baggy over the top or bunch in funny places or just give you an odd shape. I think you really need to try dresses on. Wonder where you could find something nice. Told you the yellow and the enormous flowers were everywhere, didn't I?

I wonder if you'd find nice things in a bridal store which are not too OTT formal?

Could you imagine wearing something Indian? There is some lovely stuff in those shops here but very expensive

OP posts:
admylin · 30/05/2008 19:33

Yes, I was all geared up to wear one of the Indian suits that my SIL was making for us all but then she changed her mind and said she didn't want to upset anyone and we could wear what we liked but then she wrote 'dress for women' - but I though I might try for a nice pair of linen trousers and dressy top - the Indian suits are trouser suits too so should be OK. Anyway that's my plan 'b' but will try one more morning next week.

That's a good idea to go into the forest. I remember in south Germany when it was really hot we would go deep into the forest and it was nice and cool. Did you know it's Kindertag on Sunday? It wa s a big day in the old East Germany so my friend tells me. I'd never heard of it but dd's Hungaruian friend was really excited as if it's a big day and her mum said yes in our country it's a special day for dc.

Are you not going to the airshow at Schönefeld? I hate things like that but quite a few of the dc at school have planned to go this weekend. I find it very expensive too (17 euro per adult) just to look at old planes. The planes in the technical museum were enough for me! I also have a slight fear of those sort of air shows since seeing a documentary about that horrid accident that happened at one (was it Rammstein) years ago.

SSSandy2 · 30/05/2008 19:51

didn't even know about the airshow. Think it will be too hot though. Am leaning more towards a Freibad atm
