you could always go in a dirndl Actually some of them are lovely, very flattering, if you have a full top shelf

One mum was saying they would be going to a nice wasserspielplatz and I said do you mean a kinderbad like mon bijou (have you been there?) and she said no a really nice wasserspielplatz - was then going to ask where that would be but she had to rush off.
Sounds nice but I bet it'll be busy.

I hate weekend activities in berlin for that reason. We like to go to quiet places, must come from growing up in the lake district before tourism hit it so badly, now it's so busy - not relaxing and hard to find a place where there are no tourists and back packers walking past at 2 minute intervals.

admylin · 30/05/2008 20:00

Actually that's a good idea SSSandy! I do like those dirndl, now where do I look for one of those in Berlin though!

SSSandy2 · 30/05/2008 20:01

do you locals not hide in the bushes at take pot shots at them then?

I know what you mean, no crowds and noise for me and ten thousand other people with their kids at the weekend. Those kind of places I pack dd and dh off to alone because he doesn't seem to mind being in the thick of things. I find it too stressful.

never been to mon bijou. Where is it? We go to Freibad Wilmersdorf (because it's the closest basically). It's nice there, you can get some of my dietary staples like Pommes mit Mayo or Milchkaffee, plenty of trees for shade. Dd likes it there because of all the grass. Never been to a Wasserspielplatz come to think of it. Will investigate.

They are even in the bushes! Really last summer it was really bad, never seen it so busy. Maybe more folk are staying in the UK, holidays abroad aren't that much cheaper nowadays.

Came across Kindersurprise before on an other thread! Said she'd pop in to say hello later.

Now, let me search google for dirndl, berlin.

admylin · 30/05/2008 20:10

Mon bijou kinderbad is in Mitte near Häckesche Höfe and it's just for dc and parents so nice for smaller ones as there aren't so many wild 'uns racing about dive bombing etc. I think from a certain age you need to be with a child to be let in.

admylin · 30/05/2008 20:13

Kinderbad, klein aber fein

SSSandy2 · 30/05/2008 20:14

you might have to google "Trachten Berlin". There are some nice online catalogues but you always have the problem of not knowing if they fit properly. Possibly you might need a weekend away in Wien or Munich or someplace romantic like that and try a few on. I think you*d lovely in a nice one. The Americans would all love it, wouldn't they? Actually maybe you could get one for dd? She would look sweet.

I used to get lovely little Trachtenjacken for dd when she was small with pictures knitted into them from St. Peter Trachten. I think it's an Austrian firm.

Dunno if there are actually many Trachtenläden here. Did stumble across one in a street behind the KaDeWe once, purely by chance in a kind of small arcade. Let's check it out

Have to have a look around. Prices can gir abit high when you add all teh bits up but would be a great idea. Ds used to have some nice stuff and he and h had a matching shirt, went down well in the village back then. Looked very cute especially h with his Indian looks!

I wish I had some booze in the house, or should I say a nice bottle of wine, but any booze would do, just feel like a big long drink in cocktail form or even a beer. Although there is a bottle of champagne but not in fridge and really belongs to h. Typical that I haven't got any in. Have to rush out first thing in the morning before it gets too hot to get water and some nice drink for me in the evening. H is planning to work all day and dc will be banished to their room to start sorting out good from junk so I know how much I have to pack .

SSSandy2 · 30/05/2008 20:39

Mai Tai would be nice in this weather.

SSSandy2 · 30/05/2008 20:40

not that I know how to make them mind you. I think you should have a good look at the champagne. You have earned it now, haven't you?

Looking forward to Hannover a bit now?

admylin · 30/05/2008 20:46

Yes, slowly coming round to the fact that it'll be better for the dc there. Just try not to think about meeting friends myself, I know people here in my Kiez now and have a couple of friends and know all the parents. The postman is a Schatz and the local shop people know me etc. That's sad to leave.

SSSandy2 · 30/05/2008 20:48

It is a wrench leaving people, isn't it? I would miss quite a few people too

Hi there! Not been around for a while as DH was having a bit of a strop about me being online too much. So I have been cutting back. MN is so addictive though that I couldn't resist popping back on.

How are you all doing?

Admylin, are you moving to Hanover then? Where about in Hanover? Do remember and get a season ticket for the zoo.

SSSandy2 · 30/05/2008 20:52

Hey hey hey KINDERSURPRISE!!! And about time too You gotta HIDE from dh how much time you waste spend on MN. You think up some errand, send him off and race to the pc to see if anyone has chosen a whacky name for their dc and other things no sane woman can live without

Yes, Admylin is off, she's won the super-woman medal on the German corner zipping about organising everything for the move, you only ever catch sight of her heels flashing by in a cloud of dust.

You know last weekend I spent ages sorting papers, well I've still got loads of stuff that was shoved into a pile in my room. I give up.

I've got myself 2 books - treated myself after reading ds's Harry Potters out of desperation! One is called The Historian and has 15th century stuff in it so should be good and tehother is Memoirs of a Geisha. Shole keep me bus yteh next few nights.

SSSandy2 · 30/05/2008 20:56

"tehother is Memoirs of a Geisha. Shole keep me bus yteh next few nights"

he he he couldn't resist pulling you up on this! Thinking of it is playing havoc with your typing skills even. Or have you polished off the fizz already?

Just skimmed the thread, what a lot has happened since I was last on here.

Sssandy
How is the whole school thing going? Or is that something that I shoudl not ask?

SSSandy2 · 30/05/2008 21:01

it's the dirty word on this thread although we use it all the time, don't we? Meeting with the head for early next week. We had a nice do on at the school today, so feeling much better about it on the whole because despite the problem I have (same problem resussitated in fact), I do like a lot of the things they do there and was quite impressed atthe shows/presentations and just enjoyed the whole ethnic mix we have

Kindersurprise · 30/05/2008 21:06

We have our first parents evening on Monday, I am pretty much dreading DD starting school after the holidays. She is really excited and proud, bless her.

Anyone watching Britain's Got Talent?

taipo · 30/05/2008 21:15

Hi kindersurprise, glad to see you around again! My dh grumbles too about me spending too much time online. He probably has a point but it's so damm addictive. He's away at the moment so I could stay here all night if I wanted to. Trouble is I am knackered - I was suffering anyway after a week of having to get up early to get dd off to school again after the two week Whitsun break. Then last night there was a huge thunderstorm here which kept me awake for a couple of hours. The dc slept through the whole thing. How do they do that?

admylin · 30/05/2008 21:18

Lol at that typing! H just came in when I was writing it and I was in a hurry because he wanted me to find him something - now he's gone back to work so can mn in peace! Ds is still awake reading Harry Potter - he can't put it down! I remember reading 'til 2 or 3am on school nights when I was just abit older than he is now.

admylin · 30/05/2008 21:22

Ooh, KS, my sister is addicted to that talent show, she told me I had to youtube it or whatever as a guy from up north got through and that's her claim to fame - she lives in the same county as someone who got through on Britain's got talent!

admylin · 30/05/2008 21:24

Another question KS, have you not got an internet flatrate? As long as your dh is out how does he know how long you've been on mn? Or were you neglecting your duties?
