Rightio - let's have an OZ/NZ rollcall for those of us here and moving to, because I can't keep up.

I keep seeing 'emigrating to Oz' and 'have left Oz' threads and I can't keep up with who's here and who's coming here and who's gone. And I only see about 4 of us posting too [stern looks all round].

So can we have a roll-call so I can see what's what?

Me - Arfishy. Sydney 3 years, DD - 5, DSS 17, DSS 23.

I can do one for the South Island NZ.
I mean there's at least 5 of us here

actually though, lots of people seem to want to move here or come on holiday so it's prob still quite useful. Could coordinate the whole of NZ I suppose with help from the others. will email you

and we DO go to the beach quite a lot cos it's only 20 mins drive

lulalullabye · 18/03/2008 01:37

ooh, I want to be living here now then I can do one

Although I wouldn't know anywhere

Exciting for the future though

hkgirl · 18/03/2008 02:19

Hi thought I should add myself.
I'm Hkgirl living in Melbourne with 2 sons aged 3 and 1. Been here 9 months already and enjoying the aussie life.
DH is an aussie which is why we came here.
Lived in Hong Kong for 4 years prior to coming here.

ninedragons · 18/03/2008 02:26

Welcome, hkgirl, pull up a chair.

I miss Hong Kong so much (username probably gives it away) - I was there for seven years. From what my friends tell me the property market has gone ballistic and we could probably no longer afford to live there anyway!

hkgirl · 18/03/2008 04:31

Ninedragons

Didn't know you had lived in Hong Kong. The property market has gone nuts apparently. We sold our flat last year around August and since then it has gone up another HKD800,000. Feel sick thinking about it.

arfishy · 18/03/2008 05:07

Woo-hoo! Finally recognition by MNHQ.

Yes, we do spend all day on the beaches, but we try to be discreet about our superior lives when talking to the Northern Hemisphere .

I will be back to do a summary. In the meantime I have to do violin practise with DD. We got a stern look about bow practise in her lesson earlier [cowed by scary teacher emoticon]

OP posts:
ninedragons · 18/03/2008 05:16

I know, it's sickening. We were in Sai Kung and I am gutted we didn't buy a house during SARS (husband was just starting up his company so we couldn't afford it). Village houses that are now HKD12-15m were going for about 2-4m.

Friends of ours bought a place in Sai Kung last September. It has a sitting tenant and has gone up 60% in value while they've been waiting for the tenant to move out. Insane - Hong Kong has such a casino mentality about everything.

kjaysmum · 19/03/2008 08:33

eidsvold · 19/03/2008 22:08

ahem - have emailed about local Mumsnet - just wanted to let you know we have other cities in Aus than those mentioned - far more lovely and livable cities like Brisbane and I am sure our western cousins in Perth too

lulalullabye · 24/03/2008 08:46

Hello, just thought I would start the thread up again, hopefully by saying that we go home on friday and in one way feel sad but in another ready to get everything sorted out to emigrate in Sept.

Also dd1 has been a royal pain in the bottom as out of nursery routine etc.

We love Melbourne and are really looking forward to coming out here.

I will keep in touch whilst I am in Blighty

ninedragons · 26/03/2008 01:13

Bumping and re-posting the list because DH & I have agreed that we will return to Sydney in November! I cannot bloody wait!

He went off to Hong Kong for a week on business, left me stewing alone with 2-month-old DD, got back on Friday night and as soon as he walked through the door I burst into tears and let him have it with my lists of reasons that Shanghai is no place to raise a toddler (1. nearest park is a mile away, 2. I don't know anyone who has children so I am bored and lonely during the day, 3. the taxis don't have seat belts or anchor points for capsules so my world has shrunk to walking distance, 4. it's considered perfectly acceptable to drive on the footpath, through a red light or the wrong way down a one-way street, etc etc etc.)

I started packing on Saturday morning. See all the Sydneysiders soon...

Hey ninedragons, congrats on your moving news! I can remember how happy I was when out of the blue DH suggested we move back to Oz.

I'm sure your life will be so much easier back here with a baby.

Happy packing!

sunnydelight · 28/03/2008 02:47

Sorry, didn't realise I should add myself to the list then copy (DH despairs of my computer skills).

Hi Aquasea, sorry I haven't been on this thread for ages! I'm going to invest in the CAT facility so will drop you a line soon.

Keep living that dream x

mrsdelboy · 29/03/2008 08:30

Hi am I too late. I haven't been on hear for ages. I am always on Aussie Move at the mo!

We are off to Perth on April 6th for 4 years but if we like it hopefully forever!

Me, DH, DSS 16, DD 5 and DS 2.

MrsBigD · 29/03/2008 20:22

oh looks like we can have a 'newbie/returnees' meet in Sydney in November then?

5 weeks to go before our big move and the place is a tip

ViolentFemme · 30/03/2008 21:20

Best of luck MrsBigD!

We have 83 days to go and the place is a cowp also. Who would have known it was possible to accummulate so much STUFF?

See you all in November if not before.

buzzybee · 02/04/2008 06:44

I've taken the liberty of adding in the Wellington based MNers...

Joining up now.

I live in Beaumaris, Melbourne, but from UK.

Would love to meet some new people, but have found working full-time does not fit in so well. Any offers?

MrsBigD · 14/05/2008 13:46

Hi all, during brief internet access possibility I've updated myself

So who will pity me enough after 10 days with kids 24/7 in same room/vicinity during transit holiday and will 'lend out' their kids as playmates? I'm shattered!!! Definitely not the born kids entertainer.... ;)
