Rightio - let's have an OZ/NZ rollcall for those of us here and moving to, because I can't keep up.

I keep seeing 'emigrating to Oz' and 'have left Oz' threads and I can't keep up with who's here and who's coming here and who's gone. And I only see about 4 of us posting too [stern looks all round].

So can we have a roll-call so I can see what's what?

Me - Arfishy. Sydney 3 years, DD - 5, DSS 17, DSS 23.

arfishy - how is this for irony - we have been on very strict water restrictions.

This weekend due to the rain we have had over the summer they are allowing us a wet weekend = that is - one hour 4 - 5pm odds no houses on Sat, evens on Sunday - to wash cars, hose down houses etc.

Weather forecast: storm tonight - rain all weekend!!!!

bamamama · 29/02/2008 02:33

Hi all,

I'm currently in Canberra, moved here last August with Dh and DS (21 months).

ninedragons · 29/02/2008 02:46

I am Sydney born and bred but have been in Asia for far too long.

We have bought a place in Sydney and I am softening up my husband to move there, possibly as soon as November. Some days I want to spit the dummy and insist we move this week, some days I think I could stick it out for another year if he could come up with a compelling argument.

So put me down for moving in November and we'll see how it goes.

DCsnatchsunhill · 29/02/2008 02:57

I am just off to do bedtime but will assemble the new list shortly.

What do you think about a couple of words of interests/hobbies next to names?

arfishy - hobbies bloody hell woman - who gets time.

Okay - I am currently in the grip of genealogy - both sides of my family and both sides of dh's family. Learnt some very intersting things.

do cross stitch - that is something I take up when I am feeling particularly stressed - although I need to do a birth plaque for dd1 and dd3 - so need to get back into it.

coffee and cake

we are slowly getting into bushwalking as a family.

and of course - the beach.

HarrogateMum · 29/02/2008 10:43

booooo no I am not there yet and at this rate may not be. DH has job lined up to start mid year but also big opportunity here looming in the UK. So we will know the answer in May......whatever happens we will be there in June, butit could just be for a holiday.

bamamama · 29/02/2008 11:57

Arfishy - hello there long time no bootcamp
No hobbies to speak of unless you count ds and dh wrangling although I've embarked on 2 Open Uni courses so I obviously have no time at all for anything else.

There is a miniscule chance we may get another year in Oz - in Sydney to be precise. Is it horrendous for renting fully furnished type places?

mymama · 29/02/2008 14:19

Hobbies. Does wine count?

Reading, camping, creating projects around the house for dh to do, coffee and cake with friends, mumsnet.

PhDlifeNeedsaNewLife · 29/02/2008 14:25

We're moving to Oz later this year, probably Brissie. We moved from Brissie to UK 8 years ago . Before that would take too long to tell!

I've never lived in Germany, but dh has!

MrsBigD · 29/02/2008 20:12

Hobbies? who's got time for hobbies? currently main hobbie is 'getting organised for Aus'

Once I have time again: photography (portraits anybody? ), movies, reading. Did somebody mention coffee and cake???

Bushwalking sounds interesting... all these new hobby areas to discover once we're in Sydney

AussieSim · 29/02/2008 22:25

Hobbies:

Scrapbooking - usually involves one or two evenings a month at the shop with friends
Digitial Photography and Photoshop - I am a member of a Camera Club but have had a bit of trouble getting motivated to going along lately as my Best Friend who was coming with me has relocated to Perth for a year, and the membership of said club makes me one of the youngsters which is a bit odd.
Writing - I've studied in the past and always fantasised about writing a novel, and go along to the Sydney Writers' Festival each year and have recently gone with a girlfriend who is a writer along to a local meeting of the Fellowship of Australian Writers, which is a monthly thing.
Book Club - I am in a little book club of local mums - just 6 of us. We normally try to read two books a month.

Is all going to go by the wayside when DC3 arrives in the next few weeks I guess - I usually turn into a hermit for the first 4-6months till I start getting some decent sleep.

MrsJohnCusack · 01/03/2008 02:09

hmm hobbies etc.
well mainly music - play clarinet/flute/sax + recorders and piano and things. Sing in an early music choir. Play in shows, preferably for money (am doing CHicago in April) and am trying to get more orchestral/opera stuff. am in chamber group as well.

other than that, lots of reading, photography, a bit of art/crafty stuff (hoping to do some more of that), trying to start running (am on the couch potato to 5k thread), computery stuff and playing ridiculous word games on Facebook

MrsBigD · 01/03/2008 06:56

AussieSim Camera club? Sydney? Yes Please I currently work on a diploma for 'digital photo imaging' Sounds flash but all it is 9 Modules to improve skills with one camera . Didn't join the local camera club here because the average ages seems to be about 75!

buzzybee · 01/03/2008 07:32

As MrsJC says there are a few of us in Wellington. Me, Shells and Welliemum to name 3 anyway. Have added myself anyway.
Wellington instituted water restrictions yesterday, has now rained all day today! We've had a fab summer - great to be on maternity leave {my baby 2 months old tomorrow - waves to Anna!}
