So glad to see you Anorak. Be careful with that cocktail glass

I just dealt with my hysterical DS because we wrapped presents for Grandma and Grandpa, but not for him, so he thought that meant he wasn't getting any. It took me quite a long time to calm him down, poor little guy.

Overrated, I didn't get b-days or Christmas because of the religion I was brought up. DH and I had to work every Christmas because we were the only people at our respective jobs who didn't have kids, and got handed 12 hr shifts that day, so we weren't really in the mood until DH got promoted and was the boss and I stopped working because of having DS. So that is why there are more b-days.

Ah, that makes sense Dooney. Enjoy all the festivities then!

I need to make a stollen but I'm procrastinating.

Aah thank you Colin and everyone else for the welcome back.

Off to bed now, have a good evening all x

dingdongdooneygirlonhigh · 22/12/2007 02:52

You made his day, anorak. Wish you could have seen his face when he saw his name.

Found a stollen recipe yet, OR?

OverRated · 22/12/2007 03:09

Night night Anorak.

I loved the little Colin typed in your post, Dooney. Have found a Stollen recipe (on the bbc) - just need my dad to arrive with the marzipan!

Have a good weekend everyone. And Merry Christmas

First Christmas away from home. Feeling really down. I have had every Christmas in my parent's home since I was born so this is a big change. I cant tell you how much mumsnet and all you us friends have helped me during this change. I miss my family and friends so much. Having people who have been through it before and who can translate the Americanisms is invaluable. From beginning to end, you have been my saviours: I dont think you realise how much you you help us newbies.
Merry Christmas, happy boxing day and best wishes for 2008.
lots and lots of grateful love from Louise X

chocchipchristmascake · 24/12/2007 12:42

Dear Dodgykeeper

It will get easier! I think this is normal, you haven't been here long, give yourself permission to feel differently about Christmas here.

I gfeel a bit low here today as well - it is all about my DH's family today. I really miss my family and friends. I always feel better in January though. I am planning a UK Christmas at some point.

I call the UK a lot around this time and find that helps.

Happy Christmas to you,

Love CCCC

I always put on BBC Radio internet live stream, or 'listen again'. Chris Evans' show on Friday was good fun. Strangely doesn't make me feel more homesick - seems I'm 'home' but in a different house, iyswim.

'Scuse me, but I see someone who isn't in the U. S. at the moment.

Glad to see you made it safely!

dingdongdooneygirlonhigh · 24/12/2007 20:16

Oops, I meant

jabberwocky · 25/12/2007 20:27

Anorak, it's good to hear that you are at home

Cali, hope you're enjoying England. Has the Southern CA weather thinned your blood too much?

dooney, you must enjoy bdays and Christmas like a child having had so few. I envy that feeling.

Sorry I've been a bit AWOL. My 3 month old niece who was here last week left an extra present - RSV for ds2 Ds1 is sick too but they said you don't do the specific test at his age as it's not as serious. But two meds and a breathing machine for ds2 and two meds for ds1. They felt well enough to play with their Santa gifts a little this morning but it still wasn't the Christmas I had envisioned.

Hello all! Yes yes I fixed up our speakers on Christmas eve and we listened to Junior Choice then yesterday Stuart Maconie and the I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue Christmas special then Brain of Britain.

In the evening we had the Extras finale on TV and then Borat so a much better than usual TV experience, and a very British style day.

We did bow in the direction of Bermuda when we ate our lunch outside by the pool in 73 degrees of sunshine . I helped a bit with the dinner and fell into an exhausted sleep in the afternoon, one minute I feel fine then I peel some spuds or something and I'm knackered...oh well it was a good day lots of pressies and champagne and chocolate

The nurse took the pressure bandage off two days before Christmas. Will have to keep a large padded dressing on for a few weeks yet. I was hoping to have both the drains out on Christmas day but she only took one out - hopefully have the other out tomorrow. Then I won't feel like I'm dragging a colostomy bag round with me.

OverRated · 27/12/2007 00:32

Hello my lovelies

How are you all? I've been awol - my power cord broke and it took daaays to get a new one and I fell on the ice at the weekend and hurt my shoulder. Obviously it happened at the worst possible moment - late on Saturday 22nd, meaning no drs were open until today. So, have spent the last few days not being able to move my arm at all (did debate going to the ER but my health insurance won't cover non-life-threatening conditions) so have drunk plenty to compensate. DS yanked my arm today and seems to have fixed it. Very bizarre but am glad It means I can type again!

Oh no jabberwocky, hope the dc are ok now.

Hope all is going well in the UK, Califrau.

Anorak - you sound amazing. Hope everything is healing well and that you are on the road to recovery. Keep lifting that cocktail glass, won't you?

How's everyone else?

alipiggie · 27/12/2007 01:03

Blimey - we're all suffering. I have one sugar coated boy and one sad little sick man . Trip to Dr's - viral infection. So have to sit it out. Califrau - good job you weren't sleeping with him last night . I'm doing okay other than stressed by soon to be ExH's insensitivity. But other than that Christmas was good and presents great and plentiful for all. Now waiting for another 8" of snow. We had the best White Christmas here. Been skating first time in 20 yrs and managed to stay upright. Was a blast. Also been to see Alvin and the Chipmunks - highly recommend it - hilarious.

Anyway two little men want to go in the bath and one must go to bed. Take care and get well everyone.

Anorak you're a true inspiration.

anorak · 27/12/2007 15:37

Oh there is a lot of sickness about with this revolting weather most of you have been subjected to! Everyone in England seems to be suffering too, don't they? Hope everyone feels better soon.

Tell my husband I'm a true inspiration when I am nagging him to death

dontwanttogetoutofbed · 27/12/2007 15:48

i was recently on vacation in the US and i discovered that you guys can watch BabyTV online over there. so i advise you all to go to their website to the 'on demand' section, and you will be able to view the channel, watch specific clips etc.
enjoy, my dds love it

Anorak - I need to know about Bermuda Rum Cake. My friend said she was given some by a friend from Bermuda. Unfortunately my friend is in Leeds so I can't try it but she insists it is something I should make. Any info? Hope you're feeling ok.

Ali - do you need to be dug out? I hear you have lots of snow... It's coming our way tomorrow, so pass the shovel when you're done!

Am off to investigate the website dontwantto mentioned.
