I see all these threads for Aussie people and thought we should have our own thread too. Not sure why, I just felt the need to make us feel special too!

So, who's stateside and where are you?

I'll start:

Mamama - in Chicago

Don't listen to them. Dancing with the Stars is heaven. And Scary Spice could win it (though I am secretly supporting Marie Osmond which shows my age).

GreatGooglyMoogly · 24/11/2007 22:33

Hmmm, I'll try with the CSI/ Law & Order grading:

  1. Law & Order: Criminal Intent (with Goren and Eames)
  2. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
  3. CSI: Las Vegas (Grissom et al)
  4. CSI: New York
  5. Law & Order: Criminal Intent (with Logan et al)
  6. Law & Order
  7. CSI: Miami
GreatGooglyMoogly · 25/11/2007 01:45

Other good telly:

Bones
Chuck (corny but addictive)

I like Without a Trace too but DH doesn't. In a similar vein there is Criminal Minds, though even I think that it isn't that good (and my standards aren't that high!).

(We love Coupling too and have it on dvd, but stopped watching it when Jeff left )

chocchipchristmascake · 26/11/2007 14:05

Highlight of the weekend - throwing the turkey out.

Low point - getting stomach flu from DH who is getting better but who nonetheless has left me to get up this morning with DD as bloody usual.

Had a dream last night about being back in London - could this be related.

Marls001 · 27/11/2007 02:19

Aahh ... we are getting settled in in The Woodlands (about an hour north of Houston). Last time I posted to this thread we were in Arkansas and, I think, unsure where we would be settling in the Houston area, where we'd just been mandated to move I miss Arkansas but The Woodlands is as close to it as we could come around here.

Will put my own 2¢ in on the TV thing ... DH & I are addicted to Heroes Have lost all interest in practically everything else with the time constraints of getting settled into this house; no Grey's Anatomy or Ugly Betty ... nothing but Heroes

I had to put this up for Cali!

I have totally lost track of virtually everything on Tv except old CSI and Star Trek Voyager reruns. Very sad, I suppose. Dh and I used to enjoy Boston Legal quite a bit. We're still dealing with some sleep deprivation from ds2 so mostly pulling out dvd's when we get a chance - which isn't often enough atm to justify netflix even

Oh, and small Thanksgiving here as all the family is trekking in for Christmas so chicken and dressing, no turkey

Hello all. As Sunday was stir up Sunday back home, I decided to make a start on my Christmas pud ( domestic goddess or what?). Having big problems though with ingredients. After trailing round every store in the area, I have collected almost everything. Anyone have any idea where to get ground almonds? I would have given up onthis idea by now only we have other expats coming down from Montreal for Christmas and I want as British as possible. Also, does anyone know where/how I can get my hands on crackers? Mum was told she couldnt post them because they are a dangerous weapon and that sniffer dogs check parcels.

On the subject of tv. my dvr records:
all CSI (although miami is getting really bad)
greys anatomy
house
shark
bones

I also like Law and order, cold case, without a trace, ugly betty. If theres nothing else on I like watching Antiques Roadshow as they marvel at ancient antiques that are 40 years old!!! Makes me smile anyway.

chocchipchristmascake · 27/11/2007 19:19

Dear Dodgykeeper

Ground almonds are called almond meal/flour here. You can get it in Kroger and Dorothy Lane Market but it's hard to find becaasue they don't put it with the baking goods. In Kroger it's with the organic stuff. The make is 'Bob's Old Red Mill.' It's in 10oz bags, costs about $6.00.

I have some if you are desperate! And I'm in Centerville tomorrow lunchtime Wednesday so I could meet you.

I think www.britsuperstore.com will mail crackers, you can email them and check. They also send out M&S christmas food!

chocchipchristmascake · 27/11/2007 19:20

Sorry, 16oz bags

OverRated · 28/11/2007 03:25

You can get crackers from Williams Sonoma or World Market. Ground Almonds from Trader Joes or Whole Foods.

Antiques Roadshow makes me laugh too.

I'm tired.

alipiggie · 28/11/2007 03:36

You can also buy Christmas Puddings from World Market and mincemeat and that's what I intend to do .

Oh do you want me to see if I can source some from my little Brit shop and stick it in plastic to send to you??

dooneygirl · 28/11/2007 04:05

Costco had Christmas crackers when we were there on Saturday. Looking at them, I still haven't figured out what they are, or what they do.

Is mincemeat actually good? Never had it. Never had the desire.

I can't believe you all are dissing CSI Miami. That has to be the funniest show I've seen in a long time. It would be really easy to make up drinking games for, too. DH's stepmom was watching it at our house, and I'd never seen it, and I laughed the whole hour. She said she's never been able to watch it since then, because she can't ever look at it the same way.

I'm in a baaaaad mood tonight. I went to the dentist, and found out one of my fillings had fallen out. They had to drill and drill to get it out and refilled, and I got used to only having a few superficial cavities that could be lasered away without any pain.

Hmm, I figured since it had been 126 seconds and nothing happened and I hit stop, it never posted. Seems I was wrong.

My head positively spins at all your name-changing, Cali. I still want to go back to colinandcaitlinsmommy because change is so hard for me.

We were going to go get our tree today, but are in the midst of a monsoon, so we stayed at home today.

OverRated · 03/12/2007 03:12

We had a bit of a monsoon too. It's soooooo cold.

We put our tree up on Saturday but it's a fake one. V. pretty with twinkling lights but it doesn't smell like christmas. I baked gingersnaps which helped but there's nothing like the smell of christmas trees.

dooneygirl · 03/12/2007 03:14

We are absolutely surrounded by Christmas tree farms here. There's so many, and I know it is a lot cheaper than in most parts of the country, so it would be a crime to not have a fresh tree.

Did you ever get your coat de-vaselined?
